Police and the Department of Homeland Security launched an early-morning raid Monday on a family-run day care in the Miami-Dade County area as part of a child pornography investigation.

Little Seeds Academy, located about two miles south of Florida International University, was raided before dawn, WSVN reported. Investigators detained two men in the raid on the in-home day care, then made one arrest later in the day. One of the men detained in the earlier raid was a family member who did not work at the day care but was a suspect.

“I really hope that none of all this is just like something he did in his free time, and didn’t involve any of our kids,” Zaira Perez, one of the parents whose children attended Little Seeds Academy, told WSVN. “That’s my main concern. I don’t know if you guys are mothers, but it’s really hard for us to be in this situation.”

Investigators were expected to remove items including computers from the home and day care for hours on Monday, WSVN added.

Hunt on for gunman after off-duty LAPD officer murdered

Authorities in Southern California were searching for a suspect after an off-duty Los Angeles police officer was shot and killed early Saturday.

Juan Jose Diaz, 24, had been with the LAPD for two years and was most recently assigned to the department’s Professional Standards Bureau.

“Officer Diaz was a dedicated public servant and Angeleno that put service to others above all else,” the department said on Twitter. “The void his loss leaves within our ranks will not soon be filled.”

The Associated Press, citing an official briefed on the investigation, reported that Diaz was out with his girlfriend and two other men at a taco stand in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles when he noticed man vandalizing something nearby and approached him. The man left, but returned a short time later returned with a group of other males and lifted up his shirt to display a handgun, the official said.

The official added that Diaz and the others tried to get into a car to avoid violence but the man started shooting.

SUSPECT IN LOS ANGELES SHOOTING SPREE THAT KILLED 3 CAUGHT AFTER MANHUNT

Assistant Police Chief Beatrice Girmala told reporters that a passerby flagged down an LAPD motorcycle officer shortly before 1 a.m. Other officers arrived at the scene and found Diaz and another man suffering from gunshot wounds. Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene, while the second man was hospitalized in unknown condition.

The official told the AP that police believe the gunman is a member of the Avenues gang, which is now the focus of the department’s investigation. It is not clear whether Diaz identified himself as a police officer during the initial confrontation with the suspect.

“I don’t believe there was any exchange of gunfire,” LAPD spokesperson Meghan Aguilar said. “He [Diaz] was targeted, he was murdered. And this was not a run and gun battle of any nature.”

“Our hearts break today as one of our officers was murdered while trying to enjoy an evening out with friends,” the Los Angeles Police Protective League said in a statement. “We mourn the loss of our brother and we will always remember his service and sacrifice to the Los Angeles Police Department and the residents of our city … We urge the Chief of Police to utilize every available Department resource to ensure the coward and his accomplices who are responsible for this heinous act are swiftly apprehended and brought to justice.”

Chief Michel Moore has asked for the public’s help finding the attacker. Anyone with knowledge of the gunman’s whereabouts is asked to call 911 or (877) 527-3247

“Words cannot match the depth of sorrow that Angelenos are feeling today,” Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement, adding: “Our hearts are with Officer Diaz’s family and friends. They are experiencing a loss that no one should have to suffer, under circumstances that outrage us all. My promise is that we will hold them close, stand with them every step of the way — and never tire until we find and prosecute the vicious criminals responsible for this horrific tragedy.”

An off-duty New York City police officer was found dead Saturday afternoon of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound, a department spokesperson confirmed to Fox News.

The officer’s colleagues found him dead in his Staten Island home around 2 p.m., law enforcement sources said. They were concerned when he didn’t show up for work and had gone to check on him.

No additional information was released by the NYPD. The NYPD Sergeants Benevolent Association tweeted that the officer was a sergeant, but did not give any other details

The officer is the fifth member of the NYPD to commit suicide since early June.

New York Police Commissioner James O’Neill last month said the department had a “crisis” on its hands after three officers took their own lives over a 10-day period.

“Cops spend so much of their days assisting others. But before we can help the people we serve, it is imperative that we first help ourselves,” O’Neill said at the time. “Accepting help is never a sign of weakness — in fact, it’s a sign of great strength.”

Two North Carolina police officers are being hailed as all-stars for playing an impromptu game of basketball with some local boys – though the sight of a squad car initially gave the kids’ mom a scare.

On July 21, Jameka Wilcots said her “heart dropped” when she saw police outside of her home, according to Yahoo Lifestyle.

Wilcots quickly realized all was well, however, with two officers from the High Point Police Department simply shooting hoops with her young sons in the family’s driveway.

According to the outlet, the law enforcement officials had completed a traffic stop nearby and noticed Wilcots’ children, Jeremy, 15, and Jeremyah, 12, playing ball. Learning that the youngsters were playing a game of 21, the police officers asked if they could join – and the boys said yes.

MILITARY DAD SURPRISES HIS KIDS AT SUMMER CAMP BONFIRE

“Well I thought something was going on here at the house but it wasn’t, they’re out here playing basketball in front of my house!” a surprised Wilcots narrated video footage of the scene that she filmed from her car. The three-minute clip that has since been viewed over 14,000 times on Facebook.

“It’s crazy, people keep slowing down, I guess they’re surprised to see the police playing with some children,” the parent continued. “I was surprised too!”

Social media commenters declared the summertime sight as “awesome,” while Wilcots expressed her gratitude to the policemen for the community engagement.

“I again would like to take the time to thank [the officers] for taking the time out on a very hot day to shoot hoops with my boys,” the proud mom told Yahoo.

“Our community needs more of this with our youth… This was a great and positive thing for our community,” she continued. “A very great uplift!”

Kids left in cars a growing concern amid summer’s scorching temperatures

It happens every summer: Forgetful or negligent parents leave a child inside a car on a hot day.

The outcomes can vary: Sometimes the child is found to be OK, other times not. Sometimes the parent faces criminal charges, other times not.

Here are some examples from recent reports:

Last weekend a police officer in Perkins Township, Ohio, rescued two kids who were trapped inside a minivan in a WalMart parking lot.

Their mother had accidentally locked her keys inside the car. The kids were fine and police found it was just an accident and not negligence, FOX 8 in Cleveland reported. The rescue was recorded on the officer’s body camera.

INFANT TWINS FOUND DEAD, ‘FOAMING AT THE MOUTH,’ IN BACK OF CAR: POLICE

Two babies found in the back of a car in the Bronx borough of New York City last Friday weren’t so lucky.

Police found the 1-year-old twins unresponsive and “foaming at the mouth” after being left in the car for eight hours. Their father, Juan Rodriguez, was charged with two counts of criminally negligent homicide, the New York Post reported.

In Indiana, a mom left her 4-day-old baby in her car while she went to an appointment with the state Department of Child Services, authorities say. The baby survived but the mother, identified as Jennifer K. Ost, 27, of Milroy, was arrested for negligence.

Jennifer K. Ost is accused of leaving her child in a hot car during a Department of Child Services interview in Indiana.

Earlier this week, Justice Department officials in Oregon dropped negligence charges against a prosecutor who left his 18-month-old son in his car for five hours, OregonLive reported. Officials said they couldn’t prove Evander McIver’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Bend police found the boy sleeping in his car seat. He was unhurt.

An average of 38 kids die in hot cars every year, according to the organization Kids and Cars. So far this year, 23 children have died and last year, 52 children died after being left in a car.

The organization recommends that parents leave an item they can’t start their day without (like a cell phone or purse) in the backseat so they don’t forget their child is in the car.

Dan Bongino rips NYC mayor for cop-soaking incidents: ‘This is your fault, de Blasio’

Fox News contributor Dan Bongino didn’t mince words Friday while co-hosting “The Five,” calling out New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio over the viral footage of police officers getting buckets of water poured on them.

“This guy’s a chump. He sits there on his throne, on his a–. He doesn’t do anything,” Bongino said, trying to hold back his emotions. “He craps on the cops at every single opportunity. He blames them and… he tells his kids they need special rules dealing with the police officers, which is bull… You get the rest of it.

GIULIANI SAYS ATTACKS ON NYPD OFFICERS A PRODUCT OF ‘INCOMPETENT’ DEMOCRAT MAYOR

“This is your fault, de Blasio,” Bongino added. “You have never backed up the cops.”

New York City police said Friday that they had arrested a fourth person in connection with a string of water dousing incidents against uniformed officers across the city earlier in the week. On Wednesday, officers arrested a gang member seen on video dumping a bucket of water over a uniformed officer in Brooklyn.

TRUMP CALLS OUT DE BLASIO OVER ATTACKS ON NYPD OFFICERS: ‘SHOULD ACT IMMEDIATELY!’

Video has also surfaced of a similar soaking incident in Atlanta

Bongino, a former NYPD officer, discussed a fellow officer who died in the line of duty and spoke about his time working in the city during the mayoralty of Rudolph Giuliani.

“We had a general idea back then that even though we knew we were going to have casualties … we were always going to have each other’s back,” Bongino said. “There was this top-down mentality in the Giuliani era, it’s not an ‘us versus them,’ we work for the community but we are not going to be crapped on either. That is gone.”

Bongino once again blasted De Blasio for what he described as the mayor’s lack of support for the NYPD.

“De Blasio is a coward,” Bongino said. “There are empty seats at Thanksgiving every year because we lose cops. Kids have lost their fathers and you never back them up. It’s this guy’s fault.”

The New York City Police Department has arrested a fourth person in connection with a string of water dousing incidents against uniformed officers in the Bronx earlier in the week.

Robert Perez, 24, was arrested on Thursday night and charged with criminal mischief, harassment, criminal tampering and disorderly conduct after a viral video surfaced on Wednesday of him dousing two female officers with water. Police also believe Perez was involved in another similar incident in the Bronx on Thursday.

TRUMP RIPS ‘HORRIBLE’ DE BLASIO IN WAKE OF NYPD WATER DOUSINGS, BASHES OTHER 2020 DEMS

The Sergeants Benevolent Association tweeted footage of Wednesday’s incident proclaiming “NYPD Cops are in DANGER!” and slammed NYPD Police Chief Terence Monahan, asking “where’s the Arrest”.

“No more tough talking, stop blaming the cops if you can’t handle the job perhaps you and O’Neil should find new work!” the SBA said, taking aim at Police Commissioner James O’Neill, as well.

“Any cop who thinks that’s all right, that they can walk away from something like that, maybe they should reconsider whether or not this is the profession for them,” Monahan said Tuesday in response to videos of cops walking away from water assaults in the streets.

Both Monahan and O’Neill were appointed by New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, who has come under harsh criticism from police officers, who in the past turned their backs on him over his unwillingness to defend officers against criticism by Black Lives Matter advocates. President Trump called de Blasio a “horrible mayor” and demanded he “act immediately” in response to the water dousing incidents.

Police are still searching for additional suspects involved in a separate incident in Harlem in which a person threw a red bucket filled with water that hit an officer in the head on Sunday. The NYPD released photos of several suspects they believe were involved in the incident.

Police also arrested a gang member who is believed to be the perpetrator of yet another incident in Brooklyn where a viral video showed a uniformed NYPD officer being doused with water as officers walked on the street. The man approached one and poured a bucket of water directly over his head. The officers seemed to purposefully ignore the attack.

New York City councilmembers urged the District Attorney’s office to enforce harsher punishments on those who attacked police.

“The people who are responsible for these crimes, they need to be prosecuted, they need to be held accountable, and yes, they need to be charged with a felony,” New York City Council Member Eric Ulrich said at a press conference on Tuesday.

Another new video of a mob drenching New York’s finest. Here, the group armed with pails of water targets two female officers. This incident comes days after earlier water ambushes in the city.

This offers a lesson in human nature. If some people see they can get away with crimes, then others will do it too.

The lack of response by the officers before offered tacit encouragement. It’s only water, true. But what’s next? Who knows?

GANG MEMBER ARRESTED FOR DUMPING WATER ON NYPD OFFICER, POLICE SAY

But we know why the cops don’t respond. These are the guardians of a liberal enclave. So other than the hardworking taxpayers, who would support them? Not the leaders they protect.

Any arrest would draw protests of “excessive force.”

Al Sharpton would be out with a sign before you can say “Tawana Brawley.” And if you don’t know who she is, you don’t know who Al is.

The mayor of New York is more frightened of mean tweets than he is of crime. So we know where the folks in City Hall will stand: right under their desks.

And the mayor, embarking on an already absurd presidential run, will use his son once again as an example of how the New York Police Department racially profiles minorities. Even though the force is largely made up of minorities.

This could get worse as prisons close and the detention of suspects awaiting trial is eliminated for many in 2020.

It’s a lesson learned in major cities: achievements in law enforcement over decades by competent people and principled politicians can quickly erode once a leftist is in charge.

NEW YORK POLICE SLAM VIDEOS SHOWING OFFICERS PELTED WITH OBJECTS, DRENCHED WITH WATER: ‘REPREHENSIBLE’

Video from earlier this week shows separate incidents of people in Harlem and Brooklyn using buckets to splash and dump water over uniformed officers, as the cops calmly walk away.

“We love our Law Enforcement Officers all around this great Country,” the president, a New Yorker, tweeted Thursday. “What took place in NYC with water being tossed on NYPD officers was a total disgrace. It is time for @NYCMayor @BilldeBlasio to STAND UP for those who protect our lives and serve us all so well.”

Trump added: “What took place was completely unacceptable, and will not be tolerated. Bill de Blasio should act immediately!”

Earlier this week, de Blasio, who is also running for president as a Democrat, condemned the acts as “Completely unacceptable,” and said, “We won’t tolerate this kind of disrespect.”

GIULIANI SHREDS DE BLASIO OVER VIDEOS OF NYPD OFFICERS DOUSED WITH WATER: ‘HE’S A DISGRACE’

But former New York mayor and Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani also hit de Blasio over the incidents.

“This is what happens with knee-jerk disrespect for police. It will only get worse until these Left wing idiots are defeated,” Giuliani tweeted Tuesday, saying the current “disrespect for the uniform” is the “result of a Democrat-Progressive (Retrogressive)-Socialist Mayor.”

Giuliani has criticized the mayor in the past over the increase in homelessness in New York City under de Blasio’s administration. Giuliani was known for reducing the number of people living on the streets.

The mayor fired back at Giuliani on Tuesday afternoon, claiming the Republican is at least partly responsible for the tension between police and community members.

“The truth is crime’s NEVER been lower in New York City and that’s because we’re bridging the divide between police and communities — a divide @RudyGiuliani  helped create,” de Blasio tweeted.
