Masked would-be burglars scared off by California woman’s shouting: see the video

Surveillance video captured two masked men kicking in the front door of a California house in an apparent burglary attempt — before a woman’s shouts sent them running.

The homeowner, Darren Leggett, told Fox News the home invasion happened Wednesday morning around 8:30 in Pleasanton, Calif., in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Leggett said he had just left his home to take his older son to school, with his wife — a personal trainer — and nine-year-old son still at home, when the burglars first knocked, then started kicking the front door.

“To kick the door in, that’s pretty wild. I don’t think that’s ever happened in Pleasanton, that’s pretty weird. That’s something out of a movie,” Leggett told Fox News.

He said his wife, who was in the shower at the time, started to feel the house shaking as the men were trying to force themselves inside.

After hearing her dogs barking continuously and all the banging, Leggett said his wife grabbed a towel and ran downstairs to see what was going on, just as the men kicked open the doors. Leggett’s wife was heard screaming his name from inside the home, and the suspects bolted.

Leggett said he did not recognize the man who was not wearing a mask in the surveillance video, adding that he thought his home was targeted randomly. He also said his wife would have made it difficult for them to get away with anything. “I wouldn’t want to mess with my wife,” Leggett told Fox News.

Pleasanton Police Lt. Brandon Stocking told KGO-TV that investigators were pursuing several leads. Leggett said the suspects, who he called “very brazen,” were still on the run as of Sunday evening.

Police in California are looking for two suspects who allegedly shot a Lyft driver early Sunday morning after the driver shot at the men who held him up, according to a local report.

The Lyft driver had just dropped off a passenger in west-central Fresno at around 3 a.m. Sunday and pulled over as he waited for another pick up when two men walked up to him and demanded money, KFSN-TV reported, citing police.

The driver reportedly told police he agreed to give the men cash, but instead of reaching for it, he pulled out a gun of his own and shot at the suspects. The suspects allegedly fired back, hitting the driver in the side.

Paramedics reportedly rushed him to a nearby hospital where he was listed in critical condition.

“I mean, how sad,” Lt. Tim Tietjen with the Fresno Police Department said. “The guy’s just trying to work. He’s trying to do his job and he’s confronted by two individuals who are trying to take his hard-earned money from him. To me, that’s extremely sad and our prayers are with the victim.”

The suspects took off before officers had arrived and investigators reportedly were looking for surveillance video from the neighborhood.

A Lyft spokeswoman told Fox News the driver had logged off of the Lyft platform before the incident was reported to have taken place.

In a statement the spokeswoman, Lauren Alexander, wrote, “What’s being reported is terrifying. While this incident did not occur on platform we have reached out to the driver to extend our support, and stand ready to assist law enforcement with their investigation.”

In a Facebook post, the Walnut Creek Police Department said a woman and her accomplice “worked in tandem” on Monday to steal the wallet in a local Safeway grocery store. Detectives asked the public for help identifying the two women and included videos of the suspects before and during the theft as well as when they left the store.

The video taken before the theft showed the victim, wearing a pink sweater, in an aisle, choosing what appeared to be deli meat. One of the suspects, wearing a baseball cap, approached the victim while she has her back turned.

The suspect was seen in the video looking around, then walking away. The suspect returned several times, each time looking at the victim, and then looking around. When a shopper began choosing items right next to the elderly woman, the suspect immediately walked away. She came back a short time later and followed the elderly woman as she left the aisle.

The entire time, a second woman was seen trailing the suspect in the baseball cap.

A Pennsylvania couple is accused of theft after going on a shopping spree with $120,000 that was mistakenly deposited into their bank account, according to a report.

Robert Williams and his wife, Tiffany Williams, appeared in court Tuesday after they spent two and a half weeks blowing through most of their accidental windfall on expenses such as cars, bills and a camper, news station WNEP reported.

Both Robert, 36, and his 35-year-old wife were arraigned on charges for theft and receiving stolen property.

State police said that BB&T Bank deposited the dough into the couple’s account on May 31 in a clerical error by a bank teller.

Just two months ago, the sports world watched as NBA star Kawhi Leonard signed a contract with the Los Angeles Clippers worth more than $100 million.

Now comes word that Leonard’s older sister, Kimesha Monae Williams, 35, is being held without bail after being arrested in connection with a casino robbery last month that left an 84-year-old woman dead.

Leonard, 28, has not been accused of any crime, a report said.

ST. LOUIS MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER AFTER ALLEGED FACEBOOK BOAST

Authorities say Williams and another woman, identified as Candace Tai Townsel, 39, followed the elderly victim into a restroom at Pechanga Resort Casino near Temecula, Calif., on Aug. 31.

The suspects allegedly cracked the woman’s skull as they stole her purse, which contained $800 to $1,200, the Press-Enterprise of Riverside, Calif., reported. The victim, identified as Afaf Anis Assad, died four days later, the report said.

“Williams has a violent history and targeted a feeble elderly female and robbed her,” an investigator wrote in a report, according to the newspaper.

— Investigator’s report

The newspaper said it received confirmation from the family Saturday that Williams is the sister of Leonard, the former San Diego State star who joined the Clippers this summer after leading the Toronto Raptors to last season’s NBA championship.

It appeared that investigators knew about the family connection when they requested no bail for Williams in connection with her arrest.

“Williams has family that are well off and could post her bail of $1,000,000,” an investigator wrote, according to the newspaper. “I am requesting NO BAIL to assure Williams’ appearance in court and to keep innocent victims safe.”

Contacted at her home in Moreno Valley on Saturday, Williams’ aunt, Denise Woodard, said she didn’t know if Leonard had reached out to his sister or other family members after the arrest.

“He didn’t have anything to do with this,” Woodard told the newspaper.

Williams has prior convictions on theft and robbery charges, the newspaper reported.

Temecula is about 58 miles north of San Diego.
