Rep. Dan Crenshaw, the freshman Republican congressman from Texas, and a former Navy SEAL who was wounded in combat, defended himself Tuesday after a video showed an Illinois Democrat calling him “a racist.”

The Democrat, Rep. Sean Casten, an Irish-born lawmaker whose district covers suburbs west of Chicago, told an audience earlier this month that Crenshaw was “a racist” because the Texan proposed an amendment in Congress to prevent illegal immigrants from voting.

“The last amendment on the floor that day … came from Dan Crenshaw, the new Republican, the Navy SEAL with the eyepatch,” Casten said, according to the Washington Free Beacon. “He came up with an amendment to say, ‘We’re going to add a rider on this bill that says that illegals can’t vote.’ And I sat there and I said, ‘You know what? You’re not allowed to vote if you’re not a citizen.’ … Why are you doing that? The reason you’re doing that is because you are a racist. Because you are trying to appeal to people who will vote for you if you stand up and oppose brown people.”

Crenshaw responded Tuesday on Twitter, after video from Casten’s Oct. 5 remarks surfaced.

“When you can’t articulate a coherent argument, you resort to calling your political opponents racist,” Crenshaw wrote. “Can’t say I’m surprised. Just another day in Washington with the Democrat Party.”

Later, a Crenshaw spokeswoman added, in a statement to the Free Beacon: “If Rep. Casten is so deeply offended that our laws prohibit non-citizens from voting in federal elections, then he should be honest with his constituents and let them know how little he values the power of their vote.”

In a party-line vote, the Democrat-controlled House defeated Crenshaw’s proposal, the outlet reported.

Casten previously made headlines in June when he came out in support of the impeachment effort against President Trump.

The Democrat also drew criticism last year when he said Trump and 9/11 mastermind Usama bin Laden “have a tremendous amount in common.”

Crenshaw, during a September appearance on Fox & Friends, accused Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders of deliberately tweeting about veterans issues in order to “make people angry.”

Beto O’Rourke confronted by woman on illegal immigration, Second Amendment: ‘Hands off our guns’

A woman took 2020 presidential candidate Beto O’Rourke to task over illegal immigration and his push for the government to confiscate some guns, at a Phoenix town hall Sunday.

“Hands off our guns, Beto,” the woman said at The Churchill open-air food court. “You’re not getting our guns. The AR-15 is no more deadly than my Ruger .45.”

The woman referred to a statement O’Rourke made during the Democrats’ third primary debate on Sept. 12 when asked if he would support a mandatory buyback of assault-style weapons.

“Hell, yes, we’re going to take your AR-15, your AK-47. We’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore,” the former congressman from El Paso, Texas, said.

His viral “hell yes’ statement prompted one woman to speak up at a Colorado campaign event later.

“Hell, no, you’re not,” Lauren Boebert told O’Rourke.

“Shame on him for coming to Colorado to expound upon our tragedies,” Boebert said at the time, reportedly referring to a 2012 shooting that killed 12 people and injured more than 50. “Those are our victims, and he came here to paint a picture for his own campaign trail and really, shame on you, sir, for doing that.”

On Sunday, the unidentified Arizona woman also took aim at O’Rourke’s stance on illegal immigration.

“I notice that you pander a lot to the illegal aliens and encouraging illegal immigration,” she said. The crowd started to boo, and O’Rourke told them to “let her speak.”

“We are a nation of laws, and I just think it’s a slap in the face to every legal immigrant who has waited and paid and played by the rules to immigrate to this country, and who have respected our country, our land, our citizens, our laws,” the woman continued, “and who have gone through the process.”

She continued, “To just say ‘everybody is welcome here, you all get free stuff and just come on over the border’ is, again, a slap in the face to every legal immigrant like my mother who has come here legally.”

The crowd started shouting at the woman before O’Rouke responded, taking the opportunity to address immigration rather than gun confiscation.

WOMAN WHO CONFRONTED BETO O’ROURKE ON GUN CONFISCATION PLANS: ‘SHAME ON HIM’ FOR EXPLOITING ‘OUR TRAGEDIES’

“Listen, on this much we can agree: There should be a safe, legal, orderly, quick path to come here to join family, to work a job, to be able to go to school, to flee persecution or, in some countries, death,” he said. “I want to work with you to make sure our immigration and asylum laws achieve that purpose.”

“But, what is a slap in the face to my conscience and the best traditions of this country is taking kids from their parents and putting them in cages,” O’Rourke continued.

O’ROURKE QUICKLY PROFITS OFF ‘HELL YES’ DEBATE MOMENT ON GUN SEIZURES

“We in this country have lost the lives of seven children in our custody and in our care. There are tens of thousands waiting on the other side of the border in an Orwellian-named migrant protection protocol […] — vulnerable, penniless, frightened,” he said. “They’re being preyed upon [by] those who exploit [people] who have no defense left.”

O’Rourke added, “If immigration is a problem, it is the best possible problem this country could have. I want those asylum seekers here in this country. I want us to live according to our conscience, to our laws, to our commitments and to the best, boldest, brightest future we could possibly have.”

He concluded, “Those immigrants pose no threat to you or me. Stop trafficking in these lies.”

Brandon Judd: DNA collection from illegal immigrants will help solve unsolved crimes

Westlake Legal Group Judd-Cropped Brandon Judd: DNA collection from illegal immigrants will help solve unsolved crimes Julia Musto fox-news/us/immigration/illegal-immigrants fox-news/us/immigration/border-security fox-news/us/immigration fox-news/shows/fox-friends fox-news/media/fox-news-flash fox news fnc/media fnc ffbc5fba-f1a3-529c-86aa-00265761b5f8 article

The Department of Homeland Security’s plan for border agents to collect DNA samples from illegal immigrants in detention centers could help to solve unsolved crimes, Border Patrol Union President Brandon Judd claimed Saturday.

Appearing on “Fox & Friends” with anchor Griff Jenkins, Judd explained: “When we collect the DNA, we know that there’s a lot of people that come and go into the United States. And, there are thousands of crimes that are committed that are unsolved on a yearly basis.”

“DNA will help us solve those crimes because there’s always residue from DNA that [is] left at every single crime scene,” Judd said.

The DHS’s program proposal is not new. The “Finger Print Act” originated as a response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks to help better identify potential terrorists and criminals. The Obama administration then issued a waiver that halted the program.

There is no timeline for when the new testing will be rolled out. The regulation that calls for DNA collection will be issued by the Justice Department, said the official, who noted that the DOJ rule will provide the framework and that DHS will phase in implementation.

DNA samples can be collected from individuals in custody, including non-Americans, per the DNA Fingerprint Act of 2005. However, it’s not mandatory to collect someone’s DNA.

“The laws are supposed to benefit the United States and those people who are within the borders,” Judd told Jenkins. “Trump is all about the rule of law; he stood for the rule of law, and he continues to stand for the rule of law in support of the American citizens.”

The American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) has already denounced the reinstatement of the Bush-era act. Staff Attorney Vera Eidelman wrote that “forced DNA collection raises serious privacy and civil liberties concerns and lacks justification, especially when DHS is already using less intrusive identification methods like fingerprinting.”

“This kind of mass collection alters the purpose of DNA collection from one of criminal investigation to population surveillance, which is contrary to our basic notions of freedom and autonomy,” Eidelman stated.

Judd said that in his more than two decades in law enforcement, he has “never seen a situation in which DNA has caused unwarranted profiling.”

“In fact, that’s where the ACLU is going to fail in this court challenge,” he exclaimed. “But, where they’re going to fail is they’re not going to be able to show a judge cause or reasonable likelihood that DNA will be…used to profile persons. It’s not reality.”

He concluded: “When we’ve got people that are talking about getting rid of the MPP, when we’ve got people that are talking about getting rid of the rule of law, we’re going to go down as a country. We just will not have those protections, and illegal immigration will spike.”

As of August, the FBI’s national DNA index contained more than 17 million profiles of offenders and arrestees. Law enforcement agencies can submit samples from non-citizens who are detained, as well as suspects arrested or convicted of crimes.

As government cares for migrant children, private sector seeks profit in their detentions

A teenage girl who spoke with The Associated Press and “Frontline” said she and other children were constantly watched while detained inside a Florida facility for migrant children, not allowed to touch, and there were alarms on the windows.

“It looks like a camp, but sometimes it seems like a jail because you feel very trapped,” said the girl, who spoke on condition of anonymity out of concern for her safety.

Sheltering migrant children has become a growing business for Comprehensive Health Services Inc., the private, for-profit company paid by the U.S. government to hold some of the smallest migrant children.

The Florida-based government contractor is cashing in as the number of minors in government custody has swollen to record levels over the past two years.

TRUMP ASKED ABOUT SHOOTING MIGRANTS AT BORDER IN LEGS IF THEY THREW ROCKS AT AGENTS, REPORTEDLY WANTED A ‘TRENCH WITH DEADLY REPTILES’

The migrant children are officially under the custody of the federal government.

The Trump administration has started shifting some of the caretaking of migrant children toward the private sector and contractors instead of the largely faith-based nonprofit grantees that have long cared for the kids.

So far, the only private company caring for migrant children is CHS, owned by Washington-area contractor Caliburn International Corp. In June, CHS held more than 20 percent of all migrant children in government custody. And even as the number of children has declined, the company’s government funding for their care has continued to flow. That’s partly because CHS is still staffing a large Florida facility with 2,000 workers even though the last children left in August.

Trump administration officials say CHS is keeping the Florida shelter on standby in case they need to quickly provide beds for more migrant teens, and that they’re focused on the quality of care contractors can provide, not about who profits from the work.

“It’s not something that sits with me morally as a problem,” said Jonathan Hayes, director of the Department of Health and Human Service’s Office of Refugee Resettlement. “They’re not getting any additional money other than the normal grant or contract that would be received. We’re not paying them more just because they’re for profit.”

HHS’ Office of Refugee Resettlement runs migrant children programs by funding 46 organizations that operate more than 165 shelters and foster programs for more than 67,000 migrant children who came to the U.S. on their own or were separated from parents or caregivers at the border this budget year.

Overall, the federal government spent a record $3.5 billion caring for migrant children over the past two years to run its shelters through both contracts and grants.

During that time, CHS swiftly moved into the business of caring for migrant children, an AP analysis of federal data found. In 2015, the company was paid $1.3 million in contracts to shelter migrant children, and so far this year the company has received almost $300 million in contracts to care for migrant kids, according to publicly available data. The company also operates some shelters under government grants.

Former White House chief of staff John Kelly joined Caliburn’s board this spring after stepping down from decades of government service. He earlier had served as homeland secretary, where he backed the idea of taking children from their parents at the border, saying it would discourage people from trying to immigrate or seek asylum.

Critics say this means Kelly now stands to financially benefit from a policy he helped create.

In a statement, Caliburn’s president, Jim Van Dusen, said: “With four decades of military and humanitarian leadership, in-depth understanding of international affairs and knowledge of current economic drivers around the world, General Kelly is a strong strategic addition to our team.”

Today CHS is operating six facilities including three “tender age” shelters in the Rio Grande Valley that can house the youngest, infants and toddlers. And CHS has plans underway to run a 500-bed shelter in El Paso, Texas, the company said.

Under Trump, the numbers of detained children grew in part due to new, strict requirements to screen every adult in a potential home, which significantly slowed reunifications until the policy ended late last year.

The government doesn’t disclose the names of individual shelters, nor how many children are in each one. But confidential government data obtained by AP shows that in June nearly one in four migrant children in government care was housed by CHS. That included more than 2,300 teens at Homestead and more than 500 kids in shelters in Brownsville, Los Fresnos and San Benito, Texas. For each teen held at Homestead at that time, it cost taxpayers an average $775 per day.

At the time, a total of 13,066 migrant children were being held in federally funded shelters. Those numbers have dropped sharply over the summer. By early October, HHS said there were 5,100 children in their care.

Virginia police officer suspended after turning in suspected undocumented immigrant over to ICE

A Virginia police officer was suspended after allegedly turning over a suspected undocumented immigrant to federal authorities following a traffic accident last month.

The Fairfax County Police Department didn’t identify the officer in a statement released Tuesday but said the incident occurred on Sept. 21 when an officer was dispatched to a car accident.

The officer discovered one of the drivers didn’t have a Virginia driver’s license and ran a check with the state Department of Motor Vehicles, police said. The check revealed the driver had a violation for failing to appear for a deportation hearing.

The officer verified the warrant and alerted officials with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

An ICE agent was close by and arrived at the scene. The officer cited the driver for not have a driver’s license and turned them over to the federal agent.

The Fairfax County Police Department enacted a policy in 2007 that prohibits officers from confirming a person’s immigration status and detaining them solely based on civil violations of immigration law.

“This is an unfortunate issue where the officer was confused,” Police Chief Edwin Roessler Jr. said. “We have trained on this issue a lot. This is the first time we’ve had a lapse in judgment, and the officer is being punished.”

The driver was released from federal custody after three hours and issued an ankle monitor. Roessler apologized for the incident and ordered an internal investigation upon learning of it.

“Our county is one of the most diverse counties in the nation and no one should have the perception that FCPD is acting as a civil immigration agent for ICE,” he said.

The officer involved has been on the job for a few years, Roessler told The Washington Post. He added that the officer did not willfully violate the department’s policy with respect to cooperating with immigration officials.

He said the officer will undergo remedial training.

CBP commissioner says Chicago’s ‘reckless’ sanctuary city policy will create more American ‘victims’

Acting Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Mark Morgan took on Chicago‘s new sanctuary city policy on “Fox & Friends” Tuesday and claimed it will increase violence, and create more American “victims”

Morgan, who also served in the Obama administration, was addressing the city’s new policy which states municipal officers are not to assist federal immigration authorities with regard to illegal immigrants.

Instead of assisting Homeland Security, officers are instructed to wait for their supervisor to arrive, the citywide memo said. Once the supervisor arrives, “if the request is to assist with an immigration arrest or detention, [Chicago Police Department] personnel will leave the scene as directed by the CPD supervisor.”

“I’ve been doing law enforcement for a few decades and I can tell you, I’m a lot more than concerned about this politically-driven policy,” Morgan said. “What the citizens of Chicago need to understand is, this policy is going to create more victims in their city.

“[Immigration and Customs Enforcement] priorities [are to] go after criminal aliens,” he continued. “Criminal aliens that are here illegally and have committed additional crimes against the city of Chicago… Just last week ICE arrested and apprehended a Mexican national that had been deported twice for sexual abuse. This kind of policy would make that harder for ICE to do. That’s outrageous, it’s reckless and lives will be in danger because of this.”

Morgan also praised his officers for risking their lives to rescue over 4,400 illegal immigrants from the dangers of the southern border this year and called them “heroes” for showing compassion.

“They’re risking their lives, while the cartels and the smugglers — they don’t care about these individuals that are illegally in our country. But the border patrol agents and the officers do,” he said earlier in the interview.

“They’re risking their lives every single day… They don’t ask what their nationality is. They don’t ask them if they’re illegally entering the country. They see a human being [in] need and left at the hands of the smugglers and they’re risking their lives to save them — with humanity and compassion. That’s why the men and women of CBP are my heroes.”

The American founders institutionalized the best of a long Western tradition of representative government with the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. These contracts outlined the rare privileges and responsibilities of new American citizens.

Yet the concept of citizenship is being assaulted on the premodern side by the legal blending of mere residency with citizenship.

Estimates on the number of undocumented American residents range from 11 million to more than 20 million. The undocumented are becoming legally indistinguishable from citizens and enjoy exemption from federal immigration law in some 500 sanctuary jurisdictions. An illegal resident of California will pay substantially less tuition at a California public university than a U.S. citizen of another state.

TUCKER CARLSON: IMMIGRATION IS NOT A SECURITY ISSUE. DEMS WANT YOU TO BELIEVE THAT. IT’S A BITTER LIE

Multiculturalism has reduced the idea of e pluribus unum to a regressive tribalism. Americans often seem to owe their first allegiance to those who look like they do. Citizens cannot even agree over once-hallowed and shared national holidays such as Christmas, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July.

It is eerie how such current American retribalization resembles the collapse of Rome, as Goths, Huns and Vandals all squabbled among one another for what was left of 1,200 years of Roman citizenship — eager to destroy what they could neither create nor emulate.

Citizenship has always been protected by the middle classes — on the idea that they are more independent and self-reliant than the poor, but can stand up to the influence and power of the elite.

Yet until recently, we had seen a decade of stagnant wages and entire regions ossified by outsourcing, offshoring and unfair global trade. Historically, with the demise of the middle class so follows the end of constitutional government.

But citizenship also faces a quite different and even greater postmodern threat.

Many of our coastal elites see nothing much exceptional in America, past and present. They prefer the culture and values of the European Union without worrying that the EU’s progressive utopian promises have been wrecked by open borders, economically stultifying regulations, and unapologetic and anti-democratic efforts to curb free expression and local autonomy.

Often, such “citizen of the world” mentalities fuel shame over the origins and traditions of America. Transnational organizations and accords on climate, criminal justice and human rights are seen as superior to their American counterparts.

A new progressive iconoclasm seeks to destroy statues, rename streets and buildings, and wipe away art that does not reflect more global values.

Does voting — the bedrock right of the democratic citizen — matter that much anymore? In California, tens of thousands of votes were “harvested” by paid campaign operatives. There was also abuse in state agencies in sending out voter registration forms to those who were not legally entitled to vote.

Lone activist federal judges frequently overturn legislation and referenda they find contrary to their own political take on legal theory — without worry that the votes of millions are canceled in a nanosecond.

Meanwhile, the proverbial “swamp” of the bureaucratic, administrative and regulatory state is so vast and unaccountable that a few clerks can harass entrepreneurs, issue edicts with the force of legislation that ruins lives, or indict, regulate or audit a targeted individual into legal bankruptcy.

In recent years, we have seen a cake maker, a video maker, and a national security adviser so hounded by federal bureaucrats that they either were nearly bankrupted, ended up in jail or were reduced to penury through legal costs.

We still have a Bill of Rights, but many of our constitutional protections are being rendered impotent. If a rural family cannot find ammunition at the local Walmart or gun store due to organized boycotts and threats to such establishments, then the constitutional right to bear arms is not always exercisable in a practical sense.

Brett Kavanaugh was nominated, audited and confirmed by the Senate as a Supreme Court justice. But if The New York Times and cable news can relentlessly charge without proof that nearly 40 years ago he was a teenage sexual pervert, then a distinguished judge can be rendered impotent without legal impeachment.

If a student cannot safely express opposition to abortion on demand, question the global warming narrative, or object to safe spaces, trigger warnings and race-based theme houses on campuses, does it matter that there is in theory still a First Amendment?

We are unwinding at both ends. Tribalism, the erosion of the middle class and de facto open borders are turning Americans into mere residents of a particular North American region between Mexico and Canada.

Yet even more dangerously, thanks to the fiats of unelected bureaucrats and officials, along with the social media lynch mobs who boycott, harass and shame us, our constitutional rights are now increasingly optional. They mostly hinge on whether we are judged worthy by an unelected, politically correct and morally righteous elite.

In theory, American citizenship remains the same. In reality, it is disappearing fast.

Tom Homan on explosive clash with Democrat Jayapal: I refuse to let them ‘sit there and tell lies’

Retired ICE Director Tom Homan said Friday that House Democrats continue to push falsehoods about his former agency and illegal immigration, one day after an explosive clash between him and Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., at a hearing on border detentions.

Homan, a Fox News contributor, told “Fox & Friends” that he believes he got his point across and he feels it’s his “responsibility to set the record straight.”

“I’m not gonna sit there and let them tell lies about my president, tell lies about the men and women of the Border Patrol and ICE. … At a certain point it’s like, I’m not gonna shut up. … Just because you have a gavel, doesn’t make you queen of the day, it doesn’t allow you to lie to the American people,” said Homan.

TLAIB DOUBLES DOWN ON AOC’S CONCENTRATION CAMP COMMENTS, CLAIMS BORDER AGENTS BELIEVE IT’S A ‘BROKEN SYSTEM’

He added it’s “incredible” that he is under oath when he testifies at these hearings, but the lawmakers are not. Homan has been involved in several testy exchanges with House Democrats in recent months, including a confrontation with Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., in July.

The tense hearing over border detention practices erupted into a shouting match between Homan and Rep. Pramila Jayapal, as Homan grew frustrated in his attempts to defend his former agency.

Jayapal, the vice chairwoman of the House Judiciary Immigration and Citizenship Subcommittee, repeatedly cut off Homan for exceeding his allotted time.

HOW DOES ICE BATTLE SANCTUARY CITIES?

Tensions rose when the former ICE director responded to a previous statement Jayapal made about the Trump administration’s use of funding for additional detention beds.

“Look, you want to know why there’s 50,000 people in detention? You want to know why there are a million illegal entries into the United States? You want to know why we have these issues? Because you have failed to secure the border,” Homan said. “You guys failed to work with this president to close the three loopholes we’ve asked for two years to close.”

Jayapal interrupted, informing Homan repeatedly that his time was up. He continued speaking over her, growing impatient and claiming that others were able to go over their time.

Jayapal slammed the gavel to silence Homan, as he fired back again, emphatically saying, “I’m a taxpayer. I’m a taxpayer, you work for me.”

Homan said Congress has consistently vilified the Trump administration for using the same tactics to deal with illegal immigration that the Obama administration used.

“I didn’t see hearings on that. … That is misleading the American people. That’s a false narrative they continue to push.”

An American driver has been arrested in Texas after border agents found 53 illegal immigrants from Mexico and several other countries south of the U.S. border hidden inside a sweltering tractor-trailer, authorities said Friday.

The unidentified driver was the only visible occupant inside the vehicle when it pulled up to the Interstate Highway 35 (IH-35) checkpoint north of Laredo on Tuesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) said in a statement.

ARIZONA DRIVER ARRESTED AFTER 31 ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS FOUND IN TRACTOR-TRAILER, INVESTIGATORS SAY

A canine alerted border agents to the odors of concealed humans or narcotics from inside the trailer during a primary inspection of the vehicle, the CPB said. Upon further examination, agents said they discovered 53 migrants from Mexico, Ecuador, Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras, who were “all illegally present in the United States.”

The temperature inside the trailer was recorded at 105 degrees at the time of the discovery, though no one required medical attention, according to the CPB.

Agents arrested the U.S. citizen and all 53 illegal immigrants, who they said would be “processed accordingly.” Border Patrol seized the tractor-trailer.

It was unclear whether the driver is facing charges, but investigators called the incident a “human smuggling attempt.”

Homeland Security Investigations is handling the case.

Trump says border initiatives working, cites drop in illegal crossings

President Trump, in an exclusive interview airing on “Fox & Friends,” on Thursday morning, said maneuvers taken by his administration to secure the U.S.-Mexico border have resulted in a major drop in illegal crossings and a safer working environment for Border Patrol agents.

“We wish we had help from the Democrats in Congress, but they said they want open borders,” the president said during the wide-ranging interview with Fox News’ Ed Henry. “They don’t want this. They want criminals to come in.”

“We wish we had help from the Democrats in Congress, but they said they want open borders. They don’t want this. They want criminals to come in.”

— President Trump

Illegal immigration has been a key topic at recent Democratic debates and the difference between Trump’s vision and the Democratic field could not be clearer. Some Democratic candidates want to eliminate the law that makes it illegal to enter into the U.S. without permission. They include Sen. Elizabeth Warren and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Trump’s claim that illegal border crossings are down could be based off preliminary government figures obtained by Politico earlier this month that said the numbers are down 60 percent since the peak in May.

Much of the credit for the drop was given to Trump’s agreement with the Mexican government in June that resulted in the country intercepting migrants from Central America before reaching the border.

“I think that they are getting exactly what they said they would get, by forcing the hand of Mexico,” one immigration expert from a pro-migrant group told Politico. “But the question is, ‘Is it sustainable?’”
