We have heard a lot about the importance of the rule of law from Democrats lately. During Special Counsel Robert Muller’s investigation of President Trump, Democrats in Congress delivered a clear and unified message.

“No one is above the law, especially the president of the United States,” declared House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif.

Donald Trump is the most corrupt president in our lifetime. … No one is above the law. Not even the president,” said Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass.

NIKKI HALEY SLAMS ‘DISGUSTING’ SILENCE FROM DEMS AFTER MEXICAN FLAG RAISED AT ICE FACILITY

“Everyone should be held accountable. And the president is not above the law,” said Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif.

Republicans “are basically saying that in America one man is above the law and that’s not a fact,” said Senate Minority Whip Richard Durbin, D-Ill.

“No one is above the law [and] everybody ought to be held accountable,” said South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

No one, that is, except illegal immigrants.

Fast-forward to this past weekend, when the Trump administration announced that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers would soon begin enforcement actions to remove illegal immigrants who have been issued final deportation orders by a federal judge. Those same Democrats and the rest of their party delivered a clear and unified message.

Since Trump took office, Democrats have become the party of illegal immigration.

“It’s so appalling, it’s outside the circle of civilized human behavior,” said Pelosi.

“The Trump administration’s cruelty runs bone-deep. A Warren administration will not rip families apart to try and score political points,” said Warren.

“The aim is to scare immigrant communities. … And so, he’s going to … do these raids which is a crime against humanity,” said Harris.

“We are on your side, we stand with you together,” Durbin told activists protesting ICE enforcement.

“It’s really designed to strike fear into people at a moment when fear is something we’ve got way too much of in this country,” said Buttigieg.

So, Democrats were for rule of law when it came to the Mueller probe, which did not find that the president broke the law. But they are against rule of law when it comes illegal immigrants who have been found by a federal judge to be in violation of U.S. immigration law.

Illegal immigrants subject to ICE enforcement have been given their constitutional right to due process, with the right to a hearing in a federal immigration court and the right to be represented by counsel. If they show up at their hearing and are not granted relief by an immigration judge, they have the right to appeal. If they lose that appeal, they are issued a final order of removal.

Once a final order of removal is issued, the immigrants must either voluntarily depart the U.S. or turn themselves in to an ICE facility for deportation. If they fail to depart or turn themselves in, then their case is referred to the ICE fugitive unit, which is tasked with finding them.

It is a long process to get to the point where ICE is knocking on someone’s door to enforce a final order of removal. Those now subject to a final deportation order either failed to show up to immigration court; showed up and lost their case; waived their right to appeal; lost their appeal; did not show up for their appeal hearing; were granted voluntary departure but did not leave; or failed to turn themselves in to ICE for court-ordered removal.

In each case, a federal judge has ruled that they do not have the right to be in the United States and must leave. But Democratic leaders are now saying they should be allowed to stay, in contravention of our immigration laws.

Then again, Democrats didn’t think this way when they held the White House. President Barack Obama deported far more illegal immigrants than Trump. Axios reports that “under the Obama administration, total ICE deportations were above 385,000 each year in fiscal years 2009-2011, and hit a high of 409,849 in fiscal 2012.”

I don’t recall Democrats in Congress accusing Obama of a “crime against humanity” or actions “outside the circle of civilized human behavior.”

Back then, Democrats agreed. As Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., put it in a 2009 speech, “illegal immigration is wrong, plain and simple.”

Since Trump took office, Democrats have become the party of illegal immigration. They want to decriminalize illegal border crossings, cut ICE detention beds to force the agency to release illegal immigrants and then refuse to enforce lawful deportation orders. So, it’s a little hard to take Democrats seriously when, in investigating Trump, they claim to be fighting for the principle that no one is above the law.

Nikki Haley slams ‘disgusting’ silence from Dems after Mexican flag raised at ICE facility

Former United Nations ambassador Nikki Haley on Sunday condemned prominent Democrats for staying mum after protesters demonstrating outside a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility last week pulled down the American flag and flew the flag of Mexico in its place.

Crews in Aurora, Colorado, restored the American flag Friday evening. The protesters also removed a “Blue Lives Matter” flag, honoring law enforcement, spray-painted it with the words “Abolish ICE,” then raised the flag upside-down, on a pole next to the Mexican flag, local media reported.

“There are no words for why the Democrats are staying silent on this,” Haley wrote. “If this is your way to winning an election, fire your strategist. This is disgusting. Love your country. And if you don’t like what is happening then tell the members of Congress to get to work and fix it.”

On Saturday, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said “every” Democrat in the 2020 presidential race “should be asked” about the situation.

ANTI-ICE PROTESTERS PULL DOWN AMERICAN FLAG, RAISE MEXICAN FLAG, VANDALIZE ‘BLUE LIVES MATTER’ FLAG

Cruz suggested that Democrats would want to grandstand and “virtue signal” on the issue, but implied they would be fearful of the reaction from moderate voters.

The Colorado protest, part of a network of #LightsForLiberty events, also dubbed the “March to Close Concentration Camps,” called for detention centers at the U.S.-Mexico border to be closed and for all immigrants being held in those locations to be granted entry to the U.S., according to the event’s Facebook page.

DEPORTATIONS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS WITH FINAL REMOVAL ORDERS HAS BEGUN, OFFICIAL SAYS

The developments have come amid a fevered national debate on illegal immigration policy, as a growing humanitarian crisis at the border has continued to unfold. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., and other top Democrats in the 2020 White House race have pushed to decriminalize border crossings and avoid deporting illegal immigrants already in the U.S. — prompting even some progressives to voice concerns.

“I have previously criticized Republicans who accused liberals of wanting ‘open borders,'” wrote Kevin Drum, a blogger at the left-wing Mother Jones. “President Trump tweets about this endlessly. But I have to admit that it’s hard to see much daylight between Warren’s plan and de facto open borders.”

“Are Democrats now the party of open borders?” Drum asked in the article posted to Mother Jones this past Friday.

Meantime, police in Washington state said an armed man was shot and killed early Saturday while trying to attack a local ICE detention center. The Seattle Times reported that the unidentified man appeared outside of the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma with a rifle and threw incendiary devices at both the facility and nearby propane tanks, at one point setting a vehicle on fire.

Officers responded to the apparent domestic terrorism incident around 4 a.m. and called out to the man before shots were fired.

In an official statement posted on Facebook, Washington Gov. Jay Inslee, a Democrat, began by faulting Trump’s immigration policies before he broadly condemned violence.

“Along with many Americans, I object with every fiber of my being to Donald Trump’s inhumane treatment of immigrants in America,” Inslee wrote. “But if today’s attack was motivated by opposition to the federal government’s actions, it was totally unacceptable. Violence is not acceptable. Our democracy is strong and we are a resilient people. But it is, again, unacceptable to turn to violence… We must be better than that and find non-violent ways of pursuing the better world we want, as many groups are doing.”

ICE, meanwhile, resumed its previously announced plan to apprehend thousands of illegal immigrants who’ve been given orders to leave the country, targeting people in at least 10 cities. The ICE raids began late Saturday and into the early morning hours on Sunday in “a number of jurisdictions,” not just New York City, a senior administration official confirmed to Fox News.

In an exclusive interview on “FOX & friends,” Acting ICE Director Matt Albence said while he couldn’t speak to anything specifically from an operational perspective, the overarching concern when the agency conducts any sort of enforcement operation is “the safety and security of both our officers that are conducting the operation as well as the public.”

“We are doing targeted enforcement actions against specific individuals who have had their day in immigration court and have been ordered to be removed by an immigration judge,” Albence told Fox News’ Griff Jenkins. “We are merely executing those lawfully issued judge’s orders.”

Albence, who said using the term “raid” did everyone “a disservice,” added the agency was focusing on people who’d had the opportunity to claim asylum in court and chose not to do so or didn’t appear for their first hearings. The acting director added that ICE gave those individuals the opportunity back in February to arrange for an orderly process to be removed from the country, but only 3 percent of people responded to letters that were sent out.

“At this point,” Albence said, “we have no choice but to go out and execute those lawfully-issued removal orders from an immigration judge.”

LA Mayor Eric Garcetti releases video directed at illegal immigrants amid ICE raids: ‘We are in this together’

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti released a Twitter video Saturday explaining why he and the city’s government won’t be cooperating with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents as they carry out raids nationwide.

President Trump initially announced raids on illegal immigrants in June, before backing off to give Congress more time to find a bipartisan solution. He then greenlit the operation for this weekend, and a senior administration official told Fox News the crackdown was underway in New York City and several other places.

Garcetti, a Democrat, gave legal advice to those living in Los Angeles illegally and informed them of which city resources they could take advantage of — including but not limited to a lawyer.  “We’ve all heard reports the Trump administration is threatening to round up and deport thousands of immigrant families in cities across America this weekend,” he began.

“I want every Angeleno to know their rights and how to exercise them. Remember, you have the right to remain silent. You don’t have to open your door to an ICE agent that doesn’t have a warrant signed by a judge. You have the right to speak to a lawyer before signing any documents or speaking to law enforcement. And, if you need help finding an attorney, you can call 311 and learn more about our Justice Fund and other resources that offer legal support.”

BIDEN REFUSES TO APOLOGIZE FOR HIGH DEPORTATION NUMBERS DURING OBAMA YEARS

Garcetti also told them to keep records of everything happening between them and federal law enforcement officers and recommended taking down names and badge numbers. He also proudly declared his city would not be assisting with the ICE raids.

“Whenever possible, keep a record of everything that happens. Take note of an officer’s name and badge number, of when and where you are being questioned, so you can use that information in your own defense,” he said.

“And, most importantly I want you to know, you do not need to be afraid. Your city is on your side, and rest assured, here in Los Angeles we are not coordinating with ICE.”

Garcetti ceded time to Los Angeles Police Chief Michel Moore, who claimed local law enforcement was staying out of the raids on the basis of federalism. He said it’s the federal government’s job to deal with issues of immigration, while local police deal with safety.

JEFF MERKLEY: DEMOCRATS DON’T SUPPORT OPEN BORDERS, IT’S A MYTH

“Our police force does not do the job of federal law enforcement, so I want to reiterate what the mayor just said. The Los Angeles police department is not assisting ICE in any way,” he said.

“We will not enforce immigration laws that are civil in nature and fall under the justification of the federal government. Immigration is a federal matter. Safety is a police matter, and we’re not going to mix those two.”

Before Garcetti signed off he said the issue of illegal immigration wasn’t political but simply was about being a “good neighbor.”

“In Los Angeles, we draw strength from the diverse dynamic communities that call our city home and we support immigrant families because they’re our friends, neighbors, colleagues, confidants, our fellow taxpayers, local business owners, and co-workers. For us, this isn’t partisan politics,” he said.

“It’s about being a good neighbor… and we will never let fear and intimidation win the day. We are in this together.”

Tom Homan: Democrats are lying to the American people about ICE and immigration — here’s why that’s dangerous

Westlake Legal Group 694940094001_6058998581001_6058995655001-vs Tom Homan: Democrats are lying to the American people about ICE and immigration -- here’s why that’s dangerous Tom Homan fox-news/us/immigration/illegal-immigrants fox-news/us/immigration fox-news/politics/elections/democrats fox-news/opinion fox news fnc/opinion fnc article 2387a41f-3d46-58ec-9299-d1b3e26426f5

What is going on in this country right now, especially on Capitol Hill, is nothing short of deceitful behavior which intentionally distorts the truth in order to win a political battle.

I saw it firsthand when I testified on Capitol Hill this past Friday, in front of the House Committee on Oversight and Reform.  Aside from the six minutes I was given to read my opening statement, there was an attempt by most  Democrats on that committee to silence me.

BIDEN REFUSES TO APOLOGIZE FOR HIGH DEPORTATION NUMBERS DURING OBAMA YEARS

The issues surrounding zero tolerance and the conditions of confinement at Border Patrol stations is an important one and it is vital that the American people know the facts. But every time one of the witnesses or members of Congress said something that was downright wrong – a lie, an intentional mis-truth – and I attempted to speak up and correct the record, I was refused many times the opportunity to speak.

They didn’t want to hear from me. They didn’t want the truth. They simply wanted to continue to push their false narrative about the Border Patrol and ICE.  They wanted to continually attack our president.

The hearing was nothing but political theater to misinform the American people. It was politics at its worse.

Toward the second half of the hearing, I finally decided that I was not going to be silenced any longer. If they didn’t want to hear what I had to say, then I was going to interject, interrupt and speak to the American people.  I refuse to be bullied, and I will not be silenced in my support of the Border Patrol and ICE or in support of the truth.

Further, as ICE prepared to conduct a nationwide operation, Democratic leaders such as Nancy Pelosi held a press conference to instruct those who have violated our nation’s laws on how they can evade federal law enforcement.  How they can evade the law.  How what ICE is doing is un-American and they need to resist.

Are you kidding me?

The Speaker of the House, a lawmaker for decades, is instructing those who have violated the laws that Congress enacted – who were ordered removed from the country by a federal judge after due process – to evade arrest?  Since when is that appropriate?  What other laws can we ignore?  What other law enforcement officers should we evade?  Can I ignore the tax law and not pay my taxes?

The Speaker has made it clear that we can pick and choose what laws we want to abide by. Is that also true for all the mayors who are all over TV saying they will resist ICE and help people evade arrest? Can we pick and choose what laws we abide when we’re in their cities? Can we park in no parking zones in San Francisco and not worry about paying fines? Can we evade Atlanta’s police officers when they are trying to execute a judge’s order? Can we resist police in Chicago when we don’t want to be arrested? If not, why not? All of these mayors have made it clear we can pick and choose what laws we want to respect, and we can ignore the ones we don’t like.

This behavior by Democratic politicians both on the Hill and in our cities and states will result in several things:

First, it puts the public in more danger.

It certainly puts ICE officers in more danger.

And it will lead to unrest and violence and death.

It’s already happened. On Saturday, an armed man, after attending a protest at an ICE contract facility in Aurora, Colorado, tried to burn down the facility. Do you think he’d heard all the words of these politicians? Saying resist ICE, ICE is bad, ICE are Nazis, ICE runs concentration camps? Not only did this man lose his life when police shot him, he tried to burn down a facility where there were American civilian workers and hundreds of illegal immigrants from Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras and many other countries.

When politicians incite discourse and hate, this is what happens.

Here are some facts that these Democrats don’t want you to know:

For all their pleas about locking up innocent people trying to make a better life for themselves, here is the truth: 72 percent of everyone in ICE custody are mandatorily detained by law, most for criminal activity.  Congress has said that they must be detained – not by choice, but by law. All of these politicians who keep saying they want to do away with detention are saying this in spite of the fact it is their laws, passed by Congress, that say these people MUST be detained because of danger or other circumstances.

Another fact is this: nearly 8.5 of every 10 people arrested by ICE are either convicted criminals or are facing pending criminal charges.  Therefore, these facilities are helping the U.S. government and ICE to keep our communities safe.

Another fact: For all the politicians’ talk about “for profit for prisons” – these contract facilities, like the one in Colorado, have doctors, nurses, dentists, psychologists, recreation, law libraries, three nutritious meals a day, all dictated by the detention standards that were created not just by ICE but by professional outside partners.  All of these standards are inspected and overseen by several different investigative agencies that perform unannounced audits and inspections, including the Office of Detention Oversight, Office of Professional Responsibility, the DHS Inspector General, and more.

Do you think the person who attempted to burn that facility down and kill hundreds of people ever heard any of these facts?

Not if he was listening to the Democrats who want to abolish ICE and all detention.

Facts. Something that has escaped the breath of the Democratic leadership and the media that want open borders.

Who pays the price for all these lies? The American people – who will be less safe if ICE isn’t allowed to do their jobs to arrest, detain and remove those that the law says MUST be removed.

ICE deportation raids underway in New York City, ‘number of jurisdictions,’ official says

A nationwide crackdown to apprehend thousands of illegal immigrants across the country began late Saturday in the nation’s largest city and several other places, according to an official.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) was expected to resume its previously announced plan to apprehend thousands of illegal immigrants who’ve been given orders to leave the country, targeting people in at least 10 cities. The sweeps were expected to start Sunday, but New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio said Saturday on Twitter that ICE agents had already taken action in New York.

The ICE raids began late Saturday and into the early morning hours on Sunday in “a number of jurisdictions,” not just New York City, a senior administration official confirmed to Fox News.

De Blasio said the raids in New York City took place in parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan.

WHY THOSE ICE RAIDS ARE BEING ANNOUNCED IN ADVANCE

“Receiving reports of attempted but reportedly unsuccessful ICE enforcement actions in Sunset Park and Harlem,” the mayor said. “@NYCImmigrants and advocates are connecting with residents and distributing resources door to door.”

Advocates are coaching them on their rights, including instructions not to respond if agents knock on the door unless shown a warrant signed by a judge. The Democratic mayor has said his city would not cooperate with ICE.

Mark Morgan, acting commissioner of Customs and Border Protection, told “FOX & friends” on Sunday that the raids were about “enforcing and maintaining the integrity of the system.”

“This is about the rule of law,” Morgan said. “Those individuals who remain here illegally, especially those who’ve received due process more than any other nation in the world would provide someone that came here illegally, to including those with final orders, that there are consequences to those that remain here illegally. That’s what today is about. “

Morgan, the former head of ICE, differed to disclose details about the raids. But he blasted mayors of cities who pushed back against the crackdown, calling their actions “unconscionable.”

“This is about going after individuals here illegally,” he said. “Any city, any law enforcement agency that resists, does not cooperate, they’re actually putting those cities in higher danger.”

ARMED MAN SHOT, KILLED AFTER THROWING INCENDIARY DEVICES AT WASHINGTON ICE DETENTION CENTER

On Friday, ICE Acting Director Matthew Albence said targets were on an “accelerated docket” of immigration court cases for predominantly Central Americans who recently arrived at the U.S. border in unprecedented numbers. Similar operations occurred in 2016 under President Obama and in 2017 under President Trump.

The operation will target people with final deportation orders on 10 major court dockets, including Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and Miami. Albence said that doesn’t mean arrests will be limited to certain areas. Authorities will go where their investigations lead, even if it’s five states away from where the case is filed.

Trump said authorities were “focused on criminals as much as we can before we do anything else.”

“It starts on Sunday and they’re going to take people out and they’re going to bring them back to their countries or they’re going to take criminals out, put them in prison, or put them in prison in the countries they came from,” the president said.

The Obama-era family operation in 2016 resulted in about 10 percent of those targeted being arrested, and the 2017 effort had a lower arrest rate, according to Albence. Other operations that have targeted people with criminal arrest records have yielded arrests rates of about 30%, aided by access to law enforcement databases.

Administration officials have said they are targeting about 2,000 people, which would yield about 200 arrests based on previous crackdowns.

Trump has said on Twitter that his agents plan to arrest millions of immigrants in the country illegally.

Amidst a border crisis that has morphed into a national security and a humanitarian crisis, leading contenders for the Democratic presidential nomination have all but endorsed open borders.

During the first of the candidate debates, the Democrats expressed broad support for decriminalizing illegal immigration.

The candidates also expressed unanimous opposition to removing any illegal immigrant who is not also a violent felon. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has taken the same position.

ANTI-ICE PROTESTERS PULL DOWN AMERICAN FLAG, RAISE MEXICO FLAG, VANDALIZE ‘BLUE LIVES MATTER’ FLAG

With the possible exception of former Vice President Joe Biden (whose momentary hesitation will no doubt result in another abject apology in the near future), the Democratic presidential hopefuls committed to lavish social benefits for illegal immigrants, including publicly funded health care coverage.

The first of many debates may have delighted the Democratic Party’s most animated supporters, but it is alarming many of the party’s more sober ones.

In the space of just a few days, left-leaning journalists, constitutional scholars, and even President Obama’s Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson penned opinion pieces warning that the party’s increasingly radical stances on immigration pose – for them – a nightmare scenario: Donald Trump taking the oath of office again on Jan. 20, 2021.

One might logically think that the reverse would also be true – that the Republican response to Democrats driving themselves off a cliff would be to help them do just that.

The American public – particularly those who live in swing states and congressional districts that will determine not just control of the White House, but also Congress – is alarmed about what is happening at the border.

Polls consistently show that immigration now tops the list of voter concerns and that there is strong support for securing the border, ending asylum abuse, and ending catch-and-release policies.

Republicans are in control of the Senate, where bills that would do all of those things are teed up and ready to go. Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., just needs to schedule a floor debate and a vote – something he has inexplicably refrained from doing.

Getting this legislation over the 60-vote hurdle necessary to bring bills to the floor for a final vote is no easy task in the current hyperpartisan climate in Washington.

But McConnell and the Republicans are in a no-lose situation. If they can peel away a handful of purple state Democrats, they can claim credit for addressing a top-of-the-mind concern for American voters. In essence, they would force their political rivals to make a difficult choice. Do they side with concerns of the vast majority of Americans, or do they side with radicals?

Pelosi rules the House by virtue of some two-dozen members from “purple” districts. Many replaced Republican members by very slim margins.

Do these freshmen Democrats really want to go into the next election having blocked asylum reform and border security, while having increased and improved detention facilities for families and minors?

Do they want to do so with someone at the head of their party’s ticket who calls for decriminalizing illegal immigration and giving everyone who shows up government-funded health insurance?

The humanitarian crisis at the border is real. The volume of illegal border crossers is overwhelming the system and creating conditions that appall Americans across the political spectrum.

Democrats, led by their most radical wing, have offered solutions that have little public support and are setting off alarm bells among thoughtful party stalwarts.

By contrast, Republicans have solutions to the immigration crisis that do enjoy broad public support, and congressional leadership that refuses to play its strong hand.

The ever-worsening immigration crisis dictates that it is time for congressional Republicans to move decisively on sensible border enforcement and asylum reform. Democrats have opened the door for them if they are willing to act on behalf of the American people and common sense.

Dan Gainor: Media demonize Trump on immigration, embrace Rapinoe for kicking him around

Westlake Legal Group 854081161001_6058370986001_6058329446001-vs Dan Gainor: Media demonize Trump on immigration, embrace Rapinoe for kicking him around fox-news/us/immigration/illegal-immigrants fox-news/sports fox-news/politics fox-news/person/mitch-mcconnell fox-news/person/megan-rapinoe fox-news/person/donald-trump fox-news/opinion/media fox-news/opinion fox news fnc/opinion fnc Dan Gainor article 190307b4-efd2-58be-b22c-80895cf78c44

Much of the media spent the week continuing to demonize President Trump and federal law enforcement officers for doing their jobs – enforcing our nation’s immigration laws in the face of a massive flood of illegal immigration.

Of course, this is happening only months after both the left and the many in the media called the increase in illegal immigration a “manufactured crisis.”

News coverage of the very real illegal immigration crisis focused on the freak-out over impending Immigrations and Customers Enforcement raids and the hysteria about detaining illegal immigrants.

ANTI-ICE PROTESTERS PULL DOWN AMERICAN FLAG, RAISE MEXICO FLAG, VANDALIZE ‘BLUE LIVES MATTER’ FLAG

“The View” host Joy Behar called the upcoming ICE raids “really reminiscent of Nazi Germany.” The Nazi raids rounded up millions of innocent men, women and children who were murdered in Nazi concentration camps and elsewhere, often after being horribly abused and tortured.

The wild exaggeration of comparing U.S. immigration law enforcement to Nazi genocide set the tone for media coverage.

Broadcast network news shows depicted the immigration raids – scheduled to begin Sunday – as a way of causing “fear,” and even seemed to advise viewers on how to avoid being caught.

ABC’s Chief National Correspondent Matt Gutman hammered that home: “Tonight, those possible ICE raids sowing fear across America.”

NBC Nightly News anchor Lester Holt referred to the raids as “prompting waves of fear.”

CBS interviewed an immigration attorney who pushed the argument that the raids were “meant to create and further the fear and the panic.”

That generated a pearl-clutching moment from “Meet the Press” host Chuck Todd. He predicted a bleak future for the GOP and Trump because of “the census fight and his gloating about ICE raids.”

Todd added: “How many different ways does the Republican Party want to alienate Hispanics?” As if all Hispanic voters think alike.

MSNBC embraced that argument when “Morning Joe” host Joe Scarborough climbed off his soapbox and into the pulpit to bash evangelicals who didn’t agree with his open-borders position. “You know and that should be shameful, Mika, to those evangelicals saying they don’t have the responsibility to give a cup of water in Jesus’s name.”

Somehow, Scarborough forgot that America already has millions of illegal immigrants – estimates vary from 11 million to 22 million. That’s a lot of cups of water.

Fellow MSNBC host Nicolle Wallace tried to spark nationwide protests, saying: “Why aren’t we marching on these (detention) facilities?”

Princeton University Professor Eddie Glaude said on MSNBC that “America traffics in cruelty.”

“The View” host Joy Behar called the upcoming ICE raids “really reminiscent of Nazi Germany.” The Nazi raids rounded up millions of innocent men, women and children who were murdered in Nazi concentration camps and elsewhere, often after being horribly abused and tortured.

Rapinoe embraced by media for kicking Trump as well as soccer balls

Americans like a winner, but no one loves a winner more than journalists – if they can use the person to push their narrative. Welcome Megan Rapinoe, star of the winning U.S. team at the Women’s World Cup soccer tournament and world-class Trump hater.

Rapinoe is a leftist who has protested against Trump and knelt for the national anthem. In May, she told Yahoo Sports that her being part of the U.S. team was “a good ‘F-you’” to the Trump administration. People magazine reminded readers that “she said she’d refuse to visit “the f——- White House” if the team won.

With every dust-up with the president, Rapinoe received more media love. The Atlantic’s Franklin Foer said she was “her generation’s Muhammad Ali.” He went on to rave in classic lefty fashion: “She has the chance to repeat as world champion and deliver a devastating blow to the patriarchy.” Just what sports fans want to see. Not soccer, but an attack on The Man.

Particularly one man – President Trump.

Charlie Warzel summed up the longstanding feud between Rapinoe and Trump in a New York Times piece headlined “How the World Cup Team Beat Trump.”

Journalists were thrilled.  A piece in The Week was headlined: “Megan Rapinoe for president.”

MSNBC host Rachel Maddow giddily embraced the dream of President Rapinoe, telling the soccer star in an interview: “So, you know, I don’t think you’re going to announce that you’re running for president here, but –.”

MSNBC “Deadline: White House” host Nicolle Wallace called Rapinoe a “real-life superhero.”

Rapinoe blasted Trump because his “message is excluding people.” That, before telling people “We have to love more, hate less.” Except, I guess, when it comes to Trump.

That was before Rapinoe dropped the F-bomb again and MSNBC anchor Craig Melvin had to apologize. But within a few minutes, NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell was praising the “eloquence of Rapinoe.” That’s some —-ing eloquence.

Media embrace Dem challenging Mitch McConnell

In every election cycle, journalists fall madly in love with a Democratic candidate they claim can turn a red state blue.

Wendy Davis and Beto O’Rourke in Texas are two examples. Davis lost a race for governor and O’Rourke lost a U.S. Senate race in the Lone Star State, but is hoping for better luck now as he seeks the Democratic presidential nomination.

Tennessee Democrat Phil Bredesen even got help from Taylor Swift, only to lose by 10 points to now-Sen. Marsha Blackburn.

This time it’s Kentucky and former Marine and losing congressional candidate Amy McGrath. She wants to take on Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell next year – and the media have already signed on.

Journalists promoted McGrath’s candidacy and attacked McConnell, timed to her announcement this week.

NBC did a bizarre hit job going back more than 150 years, writing, “McConnell’s great-great-grandfathers owned 14 slaves, bringing reparations issue close to home.” OK – McConnell’s old, but not that old. He was born in 1942 – not 1842. Blaming him for slavery? All the attack brought home was how desperate the media are to aid their candidate.

NBC correspondent Andrea Mitchell dubbed McGrath the “Louisville Slugger.” McGrath was actually born in Ohio, but why mess with a media-created narrative?

Mitchell added that McGrath’s candidacy was “a whole new ball game.” Because when you wield a bat, why not beat your metaphor with it?

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” leaned in to aid McGrath. First the show ran her whole announcement commercial and then commentator Mike Barnicle urged on the audience, telling McGrath as she sat for a softball interview that “people who saw that commercial are going to want to donate to you. What’s your website?”

Scarborough repeated the address of McGrath’s website three times in three consecutive sentences to make sure viewers could remember it or write it down.

The show devoted 11 minutes to McGrath’s candidacy, which must have seemed like years to viewers.

Armed man shot, killed by Washington police after throwing incendiary devices at ICE detention center

Police in Washington state say an armed man was shot and killed early Saturday after trying to attack a local Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) detention center.

The Seattle Times reported that the unidentified man appeared outside of the Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma with a rifle and threw incendiary devices at both the facility and nearby propane tanks.

Officers responded to the incident around 4 a.m. and called out to the man before shots were fired. It was not clear how many shots were fired or whether the man fired at police.

SOME DEMOCRATS GIVE TIPS TO MIGRANTS ON HOW TO AVOID ICE DEPORTATIONS

Police spokesman Loretta Cool said the officers weren’t wearing body cameras, but the area is covered by surveillance cameras from the detention center. The four officers involved were placed on administrative leave in accordance with the department’s policy.

The shooting took place hours after a rally in front of the detention center to protest planned mass deportation raids around the country. The Tacoma facility, which is run by the Department of Homeland Security, holds migrants pending deportation proceedings. The detention center has also held immigration-seeking parents separated from their children under President Donald Trump’s “zero tolerance” policy, an effort meant to deter illegal immigration.

ANTI-ICE PROTESTERS PULL DOWN AMERICAN FLAG, RAISE MEXICAN FLAG, VANDALIZE ‘BLUE LIVES MATTER’ FLAG

GEO Group, which runs the 1,575-bed Northwest Detention Center, in an email to The Associated Press said baseless accusations about how detainees are treated at its facilities “have led to misplaced aggression and a dangerous environment for our employees, whose safety is our top priority. Violence of any kind against our employees and property will not be tolerated. We are thankful for the quick and brave action by the Tacoma Police Department, which prevented innocent lives from being endangered.”

GEO Group said the detention center in Tacoma has modern amenities with air conditioning, recreational activities, a bed for every individual and medical care available at all hours.

Last year, a federal judge ruled that Washington state could pursue its lawsuit seeking to force GEO Group to pay minimum wage for work done by detainees at the detention center.

The planned raids come me at a time of intense scrutiny surrounding ICE and the treatment of migrants at detention centers. The administration’s child separation policy was the subject of a contentious Congressional hearing Friday, during which former ICE director Tom Homan vehemently defended law enforcement amid criticism from Democratic politicians.

“As a 34-year veteran of law enforcement, it is shocking, shocking to see constant attacks against those that leave the safety and security of their homes every day, put on a Kevlar vest and put a gun on their hip and risk their own safety to defend this nation,” he said, at times appearing to get choked up as he defended his former colleagues.

While President Trump and others have defended immigration authorities, some Democrats have called to either restrict federal funding for ICE or abolish the agency outright.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., for example, said on Thursday that she and her colleagues still supported defunding ICE. She and other freshmen, like Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., tried blocking funding for ICE and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) in June, accusing authorities of “killing innocent children.”

Fox News’ Adam Shaw, Edmund DeMarche, Brie Stimson, and Danielle Wallace contributed to this report.

Hans von Spakovsky: Texas Dem congresswoman suspected of breaking federal immigration law

Westlake Legal Group border-Protest-3 Hans von Spakovsky: Texas Dem congresswoman suspected of breaking federal immigration law Hans von Spakovsky fox-news/us/immigration/illegal-immigrants fox-news/us/immigration/border-security fox-news/politics/house-of-representatives/democrats fox-news/opinion fox news fnc/opinion fnc article 8699ae07-d994-5ec2-b402-df28f8490ee9

Are Rep. Veronica Escobar, D-Texas, and her staff violating federal immigration law?  If the information reported in The Washington Examiner is correct, then the answer could be “yes.”

The National Border Patrol Council’s El Paso chapter and Customs and Border Protection staff  told the Examiner that Escobar has been sending members of her staff to the Mexican border town of Ciudad Juarez “to find migrants returned from El Paso, Texas, under the ‘remain in Mexico’ policy.”

According to the Examiner, members of Escobar’s staff are then “coaching them to pretend they cannot speak Spanish to exploit a loophole letting them … return to the U.S.”

BRADLEY BLAKEMAN: TRUMP’S BORDER WALL IS VITAL – DEMS SHOULD STOP FIGHTING IT

Under the Migration Protection Protocols implemented by the Trump administration, non-Mexicans illegally crossing our Southwest border who claim asylum are to be returned to Mexico while their asylum claims are being evaluated.

However, this protocol does not apply if the asylum seeker does not speak Spanish, which is the apparent “loophole.”

If the Washington Examiner report is accurate, congressional staffers have either lied to immigration officials or coached migrants to lie to the officials in order to get the migrants into the U.S.

Is that against the law?

The Immigration and Nationality Act (8 U.S.C. §1324(a)(1)(A)(iv)) says it is a felony if a person “encourages or induces an alien to come to, enter, or reside in the United States, knowing or in reckless disregard of the fact that such” entry is illegal. Furthermore, it is a violation to engage “in any conspiracy to commit” such acts or to aid or abet “the commission” of such acts.

Violations are punishable by up to five years in prison.

As the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals said in 1993 in U.S. v. Oloyede, the word “encourages” is “not limited to bringing in, transporting or concealing illegal aliens.” Rather, it also includes “actions taken to convince the illegal alien to come to this country or to stay in this country.”

That same court decision confirmed that a person violates the law if he or she “encourages” someone to make false statements on an immigration application.

In their individual capacities, members of Congress don’t have the power to pick and choose which laws they want to obey and which they want to ignore, like someone making selections in a cafeteria.

The law requires knowledge (or reckless disregard) of the fact that the migrant’s entry is illegal. If congressional staffers are specifically instructing migrants to lie about their language ability to take advantage of the loophole in the protocols, it seems obvious that the staffers know the entry of the migrants is illegal. Why else would the staffers instruct the migrants to lie about their fluency in Spanish?

Moreover, if the congressional staffers were instructed by their boss – Rep. Escobar – to engage in such behavior, then the “conspiracy” and “aiding and abetting” portions of the law would come into play.

A federal prosecutor would have to have pretty strong evidence before indicting a member of Congress – something that might be difficult to do unless a staffer decided to come clean and testify about what he or she was told to do.

By the way, Escobar’s office is allegedly also providing migrants with medical diagnoses intended to give them a pathway into the U.S.

The Examiner reports that one of Escobar’s staffers and an official of the local Catholic diocese brought in a migrant who they claimed had “cognitive disabilities.” The migrant was returned to Mexico after it was discovered that the diagnosis was not made by a medical professional, but by one of the congressional aides.

Another intriguing angle: The Border Patrol Council says that Escobar’s aides have been recording their south-of-the-border conversations with returned migrants. If federal investigators can get those recordings, they may be able to get a very quick answer as to whether the congresswoman’s aides have been coaching migrants to lie to immigration officials.

What should happen now?

An important principle of our legal system is that no one in this country – including members of Congress – is above the law. Members of Congress have the power to change laws and pass new ones – but only if they can get the support of a majority of their fellow lawmakers.

In their individual capacities, members of Congress don’t have the power to pick and choose which laws they want to obey and which they want to ignore, like someone making selections in a cafeteria.

Laws that are not enforced are meaningless. This includes the immigration laws, even though many Democrats in Congress and in state and local governments want to pretend our immigration laws are optional.

Like all of us, Escobar and members of her staff are entitled to the presumption of innocence. But it seems clear that the allegations in The Washington Examiner are serious enough to warrant a thorough investigation of the congresswoman and her staff.
