A state of emergency has been declared for one county in Tennessee after slow-moving thunderstorms spawned flash flooding across the region Wednesday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) office in Memphis issued a flash flood emergency midday after several inches of rain fell in a short amount of time – up to 10 inches in some locations.

“It’s been a hell of a day in Selmer, but we’re going to get through this,” Mayor John Smith told FOX13.

Flash flooding in Selmer put most of downtown under water, including roads, bridges and businesses.

Residents were encouraged to boil and conserve water.

The McNairy County Sheriff’s Office said that the 911 center was flooded and needed to be “quickly evacuated due to excessive flooding.”

AG Barr targeted by House Dem’s impeachment resolution

A House Democrat who’s a frequent critic of the Trump administration submitted a resolution Tuesday calling for the impeachment of Attorney General William Barr.

House Resolution 1032, filed by U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen of Tennessee, accuses the nation’s top law enforcement officer of using his job to pursue political goals.

“Today, I introduced #HRes1032, which would authorize an impeachment inquiry into Attorney General Barr,” Cohen wrote on Twitter. “He has politicized the DOJ, undermined the rule of law, abused his power, obstructed justice & violated the first amendment. He is not fit to be Attorney General.”

HOW BILL BARR THREATENS THE ‘DEEP STATE,’ NOT THE RULE OF LAW: IAN PRIOR

Cohen specifically cited Barr’s role in Justice Department decision to change sentencing recommendations for former Trump adviser Roger Stone — who was convicted on charges of obstruction, lying to Congress and witness tampering – and Barr’s role in the removal of protesters from Lafayette Square near the White House on June 1, prior to a Trump photo op outside St. John’s Episcopal Church.

The congressman’s action came five months after House Democrats’ efforts to impeach President Trump failed when the Senate voted Feb. 5 to clear the president of two counts of wrongdoing.

Attorney General William Barr, left, is the target of an impeachment resolution by U.S. Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn.

It also came just days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi dismissed any effort to impeach Barr as being ill-advised.

“At this point, let’s solve our problems by going to the polls and voting on Election Day,” Pelosi said during a Washington Post Live interview.

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., similarly called a Barr impeachment effort a “waste of time,” Politico reported, although Nadler also said last week that his committee “may very well” seek to remove Barr.

Last week, Justice Department spokeswoman Kerri Kupec hit back at any talk of impeaching Barr, who has led the department since February 2019 after previously serving in the post from November 1991 to January 2003 under former President George H.W. Bush.

Kupec, during an appearance on “Fox & Friends,” dismissed such efforts as “a political thing.”

“If people have a problem with Bill Barr coming back to the Department of Justice to restore one system of justice, not a two-tiered system, I think that says a lot more about the critics than it does about the attorney general,” Kupec said. “Because that is what he has done again and again.

“He approaches all cases with an open mind. He judges them according to the facts and the law without regard to political consideration,” Kupec continued. “This is what he promised to at his confirmation, this is what he has done throughout his tenure as attorney general, and that is what he will continue to do until his last day as AG.”

Cohen, a member of the House Judiciary Committee, began circulating his resolution on Capitol Hill last week, hoping to attract support from fellow House members, Politico reported.

At least two other House Democrats have publicly advocated for impeaching Barr, according to Politico. They are U.S. Reps. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan and Bill Pascrell of New Jersey.

House Democrats previously impeached Trump last December on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress in connection with a July 2019 phone call with the president of Ukraine.

Cohen has a reputation for being something of a showman in the House.

In May 2019, Cohen ate from a bucket of Kentucky Fried Chicken during a Capitol Hill hearing on the Mueller report, to suggest that Barr was “a chicken” for opting not to appear before the House judiciary panel.

The series held the multi-day event in the city for the first time in December 2019, which included concerts, cars doing burnouts on Broadway and the annual awards banquet, all with large crowds in attendance.

“With the uncertainty surrounding the Coronavirus and the impact on the industry, this year’s NASCAR Champion’s Week and NASCAR Cup Series Awards originally scheduled to take place in Nashville will not occur. The 2020 NASCAR Cup Series, NASCAR Xfinity Series and NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series champions will be celebrated at the end of the season with more details to come. We look forward to returning to Nashville in 2021,” the series said.

NASCAR had a two-year deal with the city that included an option for a third, according to the Tennessean. Tennessee is experiencing an increase in coronavirus cases after entering a Phase 2 reopening.

Along with the awards celebration, NASCAR will be returning to racing in The Music City next June, with a Cup Series race at the Nashville Superspeedway, which last held a NASCAR national series race in 2011.

Three people have been charged in Tennessee with keeping a toddler in a dog cage surrounded by mice and snakes including a 10-foot boa constrictor, according to reports.

Deputies made the disturbing discovery Thursday in Buchanan after being called to a property to investigate a report of animal abuse, Fox 17 Nashville reported Friday.

Henry County Sheriff Monte Belew described the cage as a dog kennel and said the child, an 18-month-old boy, had been living there for some time, according to the station. The cage was crawling with bugs and smelled of urine.

Child welfare workers took the boy, the station reported. Further details on his condition were not immediately available.

Tennessee residents hoping to take part in domestic travel this summer may be subject to a mandatory 14-day quarantine after arriving in certain states if the rise in cases of the novel coronavirus within the Volunteer State is not better controlled, a health expert warned this week.

NEW YORK, CONNECTICUT, NEW JERSEY TO REQUIRE 14-DAY QUARANTINE FOR INDIVIDUALS TRAVELING FROM STATES HIT WITH CORONAVIRUS SURGE

“We are one to two weeks behind from being added to the quarantine list. There is definitely that possibility based on the rate of growth that we are seeing,” Dr. Jeff Warren, a member of the local COVID-19 task force in Memphis, told local news station WREG.

“When we went to Phase 2 we blew it,” he added. “People thought we got this thing licked, and we said, we’re starting to open up, and instead of opening up and being careful, we acted like things were back to normal.”

Like many other states across the nation, Tennessee has seen a recent surge in COVID-19 cases, with the state officials identifying at least 800 new cases and 11 additional virus-linked deaths on Thursday.

Warren’s warning comes after the governors from New York, Connecticut and New Jersey this week announced that individuals traveling to the tri-state area from states experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases will be required to self-quarantine for 14 days.

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont and New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy in a virtual joint-press conference on Wednesday announced a joint travel advisory that will require individuals traveling from states including Arkansas, Alabama, Arizona, South Carolina, Texas, Florida, North Carolina, Utah and Washington to quarantine for 14 days.

“In order to keep our businesses open and not be quarantined from traveling to New York and other parts of the country, what we’ll need to do is wear your mask indoors and outdoors in crowds, wash your hand frequently and you’ll need to social distance,” Warren added.

Fox News’s Brooke Singman contributed to this report.

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler recently joined Instagram, and he posted his first story on Wednesday night.

Cutler announced to his 480,000-plus followers that there is a “chicken serial killer on the loose” at his farm in Nashville, Tenn. He said that many of his chickens died, and he would set up a hidden camera so they could investigate who was responsible for these terrible crimes.

“We’ll see if it’s a coyote, bobcat, raccoon,” Cutler said. “Could be anything.”

Cutler added that it could be “an inside job,” and he even said that his cat, Thelma, could have been a suspect. In another Instagram story, Cutler said to his cat: “I hope you don’t show up on camera tonight.”

On Thursday morning, Cutler provided an update to his many followers that he had no new information, after his name was trending on Twitter overnight. He said that no other chickens were harmed.

A dog in Tennessee has become the oldest known living golden retriever in history after celebrating her 20thbirthday in April, according to a recent blog post from the GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue.

A golden retriever called August, or “Augie”, who lives with owners Jennifer and Steve Hetterscheidt in Oakland, Tenn., turned 20 years old on April 24. The couple said Augie was born in 2000 and had two previous homes before they adopted her when she was already 14.

“They figured that most people wouldn’t want such an elderly golden, but they had no idea of the upcoming journey they would be on with Augie,” the rescue group wrote. “They’ve taken her on RV trips all around the country, she’s got several canine and feline siblings, and she gets to play fetch in the pool.

“On the other hand, Jennifer and Steve have been rewarded with over six years of love and loyalty from this wonderful (and now record-holding) golden.”

Most golden retrievers live between 10 and 12 years.

GoldHeart Golden Retrievers Rescue shared several photos on Saturday showing a gray-haired Augie wearing a birthday bandana and enjoying “dog-friendly carrot cake” and some “quality time” with her golden retriever siblings, Sherman, Belle and Bruce.

Despite Augie’s age, Jennifer Hetterscheidt said her pet is still “surprisingly healthy,” and, although she does get a bit shaky when she first gets up, she can still move around well and enjoys daily walks around the yard.

An editor at a Nashville, Tenn. newspaper said he was “horrified” after a full-page advertisement paid for by a religious group predicting a terrorist attack on the city next month was published by the newspaper Sunday, The Associated Press reported Sunday.

The ad, the second this week by the group known as Future For America, claims Donald Trump “is the final president of the USA” and features a photo of Trump and Pope Francis. It begins by stating a nuclear device would be detonated in Nashville and the attack would be carried out by unspecific interests of “Islam.”

The ad violated the newspaper’s long-established standards banning hate speech, the AP reported.

TOMI LAHREN RIPS MAYOR FOR ENCOURAGING PROTESTS WHILE EXTENDING CORONAVIRUS LOCKDOWN

In the Wednesday ad, the group stated its intention to warn Nashville residents about next month’s event “so that they may be able to make a decision intelligently.”

“The ad is horrific and is utterly indefensible in all circumstances. It is wrong, period, and should have never been published,” Vice President and Editor Michael A. Anastasi said. “It has hurt members of our community and our own employees and that saddens me beyond belief. It is inconsistent with everything The Tennessean as an institution stands and has stood for.”

The newspaper’s sales executives ordered the ad to be removed from future editions, the newspaper said.

Council on Islamic-American Relations spokesman Ibrahim Hooper explained while the group appreciates the “Islamophobic” ad was pulled and an investigation has begun, “we would urge the Tennessean to also implement updated policies and staff training to ensure that this type of hate incident does not occur in the future. CAIR is willing to offer that training,” the Associated Press reported.

There was no indication how much Future for America paid for the ads, the report said. According to its website, the group’s ministry warns of so-called end-of-the-world Bible prophecies whose fulfillment “is no longer future for it is taking place before our eyes.”

A telephone message left with Bonnerdale, Arkansas-based Future for America wasn’t immediately returned.

Law enforcement has been under fire for weeks now, demonized by activists and politicians, following the death of George Floyd on May 25, with calls to defund and dismantle the police, but here are a few examples highlighting the good officers do for their communities.

This week, South Carolina Deputy William Kimbro, who saved Kemira Boyd’s choking daughter during a traffic stop in 2019, became Ryleigh’s godfather, making the routine call a “life-long bond” for both of them.

“I’m so happy and just blessed. It’s the world to me,” Kimbro told “Fox & Friends First” about the new honor.

In a similar story, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department shared video this week of a California sheriff’s deputy, who was monitoring a protest last month, jumping into action to save an 11-month-old baby.

The dramatic footage shows two women running into a parking lot after the baby boy stopped breathing during a demonstration at a park in Palmdale, about 60  miles north of Los Angeles, on May 31, after he swallowed a coin.

The baby’s mother stopped to pat his back and the other woman flagged down Deputy Cameron Kinsey, who was monitoring the protest.

“None of that other stuff matters,” Kinsey said in a statement. “Just the baby.”

Kinsey immediately assessed the situation, and using his finger, performed a “mouth sweep” to clear vomit from the child’s mouth. After several blows to the boy’s back, he began breathing again before paramedics arrived and took him to the hospital.

“Mom did the right thing,” Kinsey told the Antelope Valley Press. “She was quick-thinking and started patting him on the back to dislodge whatever he had stuck in there. I saw that. I saw she was scared and kind of frantic, so I ran over and I grabbed the baby. At that point, training just took over.”

San Diego Police Department K9 Officer Jonathan Wiese is being praised by colleagues for scaling down the side of a cliff to rescue twin 2-year-old sisters after their father allegedly drove off a bridge, flipping their car upside-down into the ocean below.

Wiese was the first to arrive on scene after the girls’ mother called the San Diego Sheriff’s Department at 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning to report her daughters’ father was suicidal and threatened to drive off the Coronado Bay Bridge, police told the Times of San Diego.

The 22-year-year veteran of the force immediately jumped into action, using a 100-foot leash in his patrol car from SWAT missions, removed his gun belt, tied the tether around his waist, “and by then, four or five other cops had shown up, so I pretty much threw the end of the leash to them and then I said, ‘hang on,’ and I just jumped off.”

After being lowered 30 feet down the side of the cliff, Weise said he drew on his previous water rescue training to reach the father and girls and successfully tow them to the rocks. One girl suffered minor injuries, while the other was hospitalized in critical condition. However, both are expected to make a full recovery, police said.

“I didn’t do the job to be liked every day, I didn’t do it to become rich. I did it because I want to be out there making a difference and helping people, as cliché as that might sound, but I was just glad I could be there,” Wiese told KGTV. “You just do what you have to do, but after everyone was safe, it hits you and you just want to go home and hug your kids, that’s for sure.”

SDPD Police Chief David Nisleit praised Weise for his actions: “That’s probably the most heroic thing I’ve seen in my 32 years.”

Weise, a father of a daughter, 2, and a son, 4, was awarded the Officer of the Year last year, for arresting the gunman who opened fire at the Chabad of Poway synagogue in Poway, Calif., about 20 miles north of San Diego, on April 27, 2019.

Nebraska officer fixes fallen US flag

A Nebraska cop was caught on surveillance video attempting to rehang a fallen American flag outside an auto repair shop Sunday.

A security camera from Kearney Tire & Auto Service videotaped the cop folding the flag and placing it against the building after he noticed the flag holder was damaged.

“We were out of town on Sunday and this kind officer stopped to rescue [Old Glory] and show the respect it deserves when our holder broke,” the shop wrote in a Facebook post.

“I couldn’t be more proud of our officers on the KPD,” the post read. “We were called right away with the issue and we were so thankful. We are blessed by each officer and hold them in the highest regard for all they do to keep us safe. From the bottom of our hearts, Thank You!!”

Cops aid mom after employees call police on her child

A Pennsylvania Boston Market employee called the police on a customer’s 10-year-old autistic child last week because he wasn’t wearing a coronavirus face mask.

Nadina Newsman entered the Jenkintown restaurant location with her son Colin, who in addition to his autism also suffers from Down Syndrome and is non-verbal, according to ABC 6.

Newsman said she went to pick up dinner for her family, when her car broke down. She said she donned a mask but, because of the hot weather, allowed her son to go without one.

“It was 91 degrees outside, Colin wasn’t feeling well, we needed to go inside so Colin could cool off,” she told ABC 6. “So I asked her [the employee] if we could sit there for about 15 minutes until our ride came and she said ‘I have to call the owner.'”

Newsman said she was really “shocked” that the Boston Market employee didn’t have “proper training, the proper information and nor did she have common sense.”

The officer arrived and gave her and her son a ride home. No charges have been filed.

“The police arrived and were problem solvers and peacemakers,” Abington Deputy Chief Kelley Warner said. “Officer McMenamin did his job and we couldn’t be more proud.”

Nashville police chief to retire amid calls for resignation

Nashville’s police chief is reportedly stepping down amid calls for his resignation in the wake of nationwide protests against police after the death of George Floyd.

In a statement Thursday, Mayor John Cooper said Police Chief Steve Anderson will step down after a national search for a new chief is completed. Cooper said Anderson, who took over as chief in 2010, intended to retire after serving 10 years in the role.

At least 15 Nashville Metro Council members signed a document last week urging Cooper to call for Anderson’s resignation and pursue “meaningful policy and behavioral change” in the agency.

Anderson has faced criticism in recent years, particularly after two high-profile deadly shootings by white officers of black men in 2017 and 2018. The city also has run into delays in trying to implement widespread use of body cameras for officers, with the mayor saying last week that the full deployment of the devices was beginning and that other precincts would begin getting them by February 2021 at the latest.

Calls for Anderson’s resignation have intensified amid the nationwide wave of protests calling for police reforms, and grew even louder early this month, when Metro police announced arrest warrants for Nashville activists Justin Jones and Jeneisha Harris on riot charges, stating the pair were connected to vandalism of a police cruiser during a protest.

Police said the activists walked on the car, damaging it. Three hours after the announcement, Metro police recalled the warrants after reviewing “additional information” received by the department and District Attorney General Glenn Funk.

BEN SHAPIRO CALLS FOR FIRING OF DA WHO BROUGH ‘FULLY INSANE’ MURDER CHARGE AGAINST EX-ATLANTA OFFICER

Activists across the nation are demanding changes to policing after George Floyd, a black man, died while in the custody of a white Minneapolis police officer.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Tennessee, which called for Anderson to resign, also criticized the chief’s level of cooperation with a new community oversight board of police that Nashville voters created after Hambrick’s death.

Anderson has served 45 years at the Nashville police department beginning as a patrol officer. Cooper said he wanted people “to celebrate (Anderson’s) tenure as its chief.”

“Chief Anderson is a thoughtful and effective leader – a dedicated public servant who has the admiration of his officers and the thanks of a grateful Mayor for his years of service to our community,” Cooper said.
