Rep. Ben McAdams, D-Utah, who tested positive for the coronavirus last week, said he’s now in the hospital, and is doing better with treatment after he was admitted this past Friday with breathing difficulties.

He said in a statement: “I was admitted and have been receiving oxygen as I struggled to maintain my blood oxygen at appropriate levels. I am now off oxygen and feeling relatively better and expect to be released as soon as the doctors determine it is appropriate.”

He added, “I’m very grateful to the skilled hospital medical staff for their efficient and effective treatment, as well as their preparations.”

McAdams said he first became sick with “mild, cold-like symptoms” shortly after he returned to Salt Lake City from Washington. He went to his doctor the next day and began isolating himself at home and holding meetings on the phone. After his symptoms got worse, including a fever, a dry cough and labored breathing, he said doctors tested him at a clinic and he received his result last week.

Before his hospitalization, he had self-quarantined at home.

CORONAVIRUS: WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

At least two other U.S. lawmakers have announced they were diagnosed with the virus: Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., and Rep. Mario Díaz-Balart, R-Fla.

McAdams, a moderate, was elected in 2018 in the Republican-leaning district. McAdams previously served as Salt Lake County mayor and a state lawmaker. His district includes parts of Salt Lake and Utah counties.

6 female Utah state senators walk off floor to protest abortion ultrasound bill

All six female lawmakers from both sides of the aisle walked off the floor of the Utah State Senate and refused to vote on a bill that later passed on Tuesday, which mandates that women be shown an ultrasound before they receive an abortion.

Currently, women receive an ultrasound before an abortion procedure is conducted, but health care providers are not required to show the patient the results.

PRO-LIFE STUDENTS PRAYING AT PLANNED PARENTHOOD MET WITH LEWD ACTS, AS WOMAN IS RECORDED SAYING ‘HAIL SATAN’

Under the new bill, however, doctors could be fined $100,000 or more if they perform the procedure without showing a pregnant woman an image from an ultrasound and making the fetal heartbeat audible, if possible.

Republican Sen. Deidre Henderson said the walkout protested the “invasive nature” of the bill. Before the vote, Henderson was able to pass an amendment into the bill that would prohibit a transvaginal ultrasound.

“I am very pro-life, and always vote for pro-life bills. But I’m concerned that we are overstepping with government mandates of medically unnecessary procedures,” Henderson told The Salt Lake Tribune.

Sen. Luz Escamilla, D-Utah, called the unified decision to leave the Senate floor ahead of the vote a “spontaneous decision.”

Even with the nay vote from the six female lawmakers — two Republicans and four Democrats — the bill would have still passed. Five Republican men voted against it, as well, but the bill passed 16-7.

Despite pushback from female lawmakers in the state Senate, many of whom shared personal stories in an effort to appeal to their anti-abortion colleagues, the sponsor of the bill, Republican Sen. Curtis Bramble insisted that a woman could look away when being shown the images of an ultrasound.

“If you are going to take the life of a child, if you are willing to terminate that life through an abortion, it seems appropriate that you get the best information about the development, the stage of development, heart beat — we are talking about a human being,” Bramble told the Deseret News.

Three medical organizations have appealed to Republican Gov. Gary Herbert to veto the ultrasound mandate, but so far he has not shown any indication that he will do so.

Utah topless stepmom takes plea teal to avoid sex offender status, lawyer says

A Utah woman who fought against criminal charges after being seen topless by her stepchildren in her home took a plea deal Tuesday to avoid having to register as a sex offender if convicted, her lawyers said.

Tilli Buchanan, 28, had challenged the state’s lewdness Law, arguing it was unconstitutional on the grounds that it discriminated against women by making it illegal to show their breasts.

“This whole thing is ridiculous,” her attorney Randy Richards said. “She [or other women] have to worry about their kids seeing them topless? It’s ridiculous.”

The judge sided had sided with prosecutors who argued that lewdness is commonly understood to include women’s breasts in U.S. society.

“This whole thing is ridiculous,” her attorney Randy Richards said. “She (or other women) have to worry about their kids seeing them topless? It’s ridiculous.”

— Randy Richards, attorney for Tilli Buchanan

Buchanan had been working with her husband in their garage in late 2017 or early 2018 when they both took off their shirts to avoid getting dust on them — which the stepchildren, ages 9 and 13 saw. When the children’s birthmother heard about the incident, she alerted welfare officials because she was “alarmed,” and charges were filed.

The stepmother faced prison time and would have had to register as a sex offender for 10 years if convicted. Richards said the stakes were too high for Buchanan if the case went to trial.

“If we lose this, she’s on the sex offender registry with child rapists and things of that nature,” Richards told the Salt Lake Tribune last year “The magnitude of the penalty on this is enormous.”

Buchanan spoke out against what she believed was a double standard between topless men and women.

UTAH WOMAN CHARGED AFTER GOING TOPLESS IN FRONT OF STEPKIDS INSIDE OWN HOME FACES SETBACK IN COURT

“It was in the privacy of my own home. My husband was right next to me in the same exact manner that I was, and he’s not being prosecuted,” she said.

Police argued she was “under the influence of alcohol” when she took off her shirt.

Buchanan was originally charged with three counts of misdemeanor lewdness involving a child in February last year. The husband faced no charges.

In the agreement, she pleaded guilty one count of lewdness, while the two other charges of lewdness involving a child were dropped. The remaining charge will be dropped if Buchanan doesn’t commit any new crimes for a year.

Buchanan and the American Civil Liberties Union of Utah had referenced a court ruling in Colorado that overturned a topless ban in the state and helped fuel a movement — which has seen mixed success fighting similar ordinances in other areas of the country.

A K-9 fatally shot apprehending a fugitive in Utah on earlier this month will be honored next week with a specially designed casket that bears the hero dog’s portrait and the American flag.

Police asked auto body and paint shop Rawtin Garage if it could design a customized coffin for Hondo, who was a member of the Herriman City Police Department. The 7-year-old Belgian Malinois joined the force in 2015 after training in Europe.

“We had a lot of pressure,” said Johnny Ward, who runs the shop with his friend Keith Eccles, according to Utah’s KSL-TV. “I think the call came in Wednesday night. And they said, ‘Hey, we’re bringing in a casket tomorrow morning.’”

The shop completed the casket in just 24 hours and painted it free of charge. Their services usually require a two-month waiting period.

“It’s hard work, but there’s an incredible sense of satisfaction,” Ward told the station. “This dog really is a hero.”

“In a weird way, it was kind of a spiritual experience,” Eccles, who hand drew the dog’s face, told KSL-TV. “You feel like, by the time you’re done, you really got to know Hondo.”

Along with his partner Sgt. Ben Ricks, Hondo assisted with over 100 felony arrests and was ranked one of the best K-9’s in the state that placed first in international trials in 2018, Carr said.

“PSD Hondo was a true warrior then his actions ensured that his loving friend and partner Ben [Ricks] would able to return home to his wife, children, and HPD family,” the chief said at the Feb. 14 press conference. “We mourn the loss of our member of our family but we remember the sacrifice.”

Bloomberg campaign office in Utah vandalized, one day after pointing finger at Bernie supporters for similar incident

Michael Bloomberg‘s campaign headquarters in Utah was vandalized Friday night, just a day after his Tennessee office was defaced and Bloomberg’s team pointed the finger at the rhetoric from White House rival Bernie Sanders in that incident.

Windows were shattered at the Salt Lake City campaign office and multiple rocks were found inside, Communications Director Catherine Sant Mar told Fox 13 (KSTU-TV) in Salt Lake City.

“We are disheartened by the vandalism at our Salt Lake City headquarters,” the Bloomberg campaign said in a statement. “We know that emotions can run high in politics but we also know that even when we disagree, Utahns find common ground in civil discourse.”

Utah heads to the polls March 3  — Super Tuesday — to cast votes for the Democratic primary. Bloomberg has skipped the traditional early states and has staked his presidential hopes on picking up delegates in the Super Tuesday contests.

“We strongly condemn this act of vandalism but we are laser-focused on Super Tuesday and will continue to share Mike’s message about unifying our country with Utah voters,” the Bloomberg statement said, declining to point fingers.

The Salt Lake City destruction comes a day after Bloomberg’s Knoxville, Tenn. office was vandalized and his campaign then raised the possibility of it being connected to Sanders’ supporters. Bloomberg’s team provided a photo that shows the spray-painted words “F—k Bloomberg” and “oligarch” on the outside of the Tennessee building.

BERNIE SANDERS: 5 THINGS TO KNOW

“This latest incident at our Knoxville campaign office is exactly what we’ve been warning about,” Bloomberg campaign manager Kevin Sheekey said in a statement Friday. “We don’t know who is responsible for this vandalism, but we do know it echoes language from the Sanders campaign and its supporters.”

Sheekey called on Sanders to “immediately condemn these attacks and for his campaign to end the Trump-like rhetoric that is clearly encouraging his supporters to engage in behavior that has no place in our politics.”

The Sanders campaign declined to comment on Friday.

MICHAEL BLOOMBERG: 5 THINGS TO KNOW

Bloomberg’s campaign argued the graffiti in Knoxville is the latest in a pattern of vandalism it has seen across the country. It referenced recent incidents in Toledo, Ohio; Youngstown, Ohio; and Ann Arbor, Mich.

“Over the past week, we’ve seen similar attacks against Mike Bloomberg 2020 offices in multiple states,” Sheekey said. “Fortunately, no one has been injured. But this needs to end before someone gets hurt.”

Nancy Grace: Idaho mother of missing kids ‘no doubt’ lying to authorities

The Idaho mother of two missing children is clearly lying to authorities, Fox Nation’s Nancy Grace said Saturday

“She lied. No doubt about it,” Grace said of Lori Vallow, 46, who is facing felony charges after her arrest in Hawaii.

In an interview on “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Grace, a former prosecutor, said she reached her conclusion after studying the bizarre case.

“I started at the divorce allegations,” the “Crime Stories” host said. “According to her now-dead husband, he says that not only did she claim she was a god” but that she has come to lead people to heaven “after the Great War.”

The “Great War” refers to what the New Testament calls Armageddon.

“If he stood in her way, she would kill him,” Grace said. “That’s in the divorce papers. Let’s just start with that. And now he’s dead. That’s not a coincidence.”

LORI VALLOW, MOM OF MISSING IDAHO KIDS, REPORTEDLY DECLARED HERSELF A GOD SENT TO PREPARE WORLD FOR APOCALYPSE

“What I’m worried about right now are these two children, JJ and Tylee. JJ was last seen — we think — sometime around September and — interesting — Tylee, the 17-year-old little girl, was last seen at Yellowstone park with her mother. There is a photograph. Then she is never seen again,” Grace said.

According to accounts by family and friends, Vallow was once a model parent. But 7-year-old Joshua “JJ” Vallow and his 17-year-old sister, Tylee Ryan, haven’t been seen since last year.

After fleeing from Idaho to Hawaii during an investigation, Vallow was arrested Thursday on felony child abandonment charges.

Investigations into the strange circumstances surrounding Vallow began months earlier.

Her husband, Charles Vallow, was shot and killed in July at the family’s suburban Phoenix home by her brother, Alex Cox.

The couple had been in the midst of a divorce, with Charles Vallow alleging in court documents that he feared she would kill him and that she’d developed doomsday cult-like beliefs, reportedly calling herself “a god assigned to carry out the work of the 144,000 at Christ’s second coming in July 2020.”

But Cox told police the shooting was in self-defense, after Charles Vallow came at him armed with a baseball bat. The investigation was stymied when Cox died of unknown causes in his Arizona home in December. Toxicology reports done as part of an autopsy have not yet been released.

FILE – This combination photo of undated file photos released by National Center for Missing & Exploited Children show missing children Joshua “JJ” Vallow, 7, left, and Tylee Ryan, 17. As authorities in Idaho continue to plead with the public for any information about the two kids missing for five months, experts say a potential criminal case against the mother, Lori Vallow, could be bolstered if she fails to meet a court-ordered deadline to produce the children. Joshua Vallow and Tylee Ryan haven’t been seen since late September, and police in Rexburg, Idaho have said they “strongly believe that Joshua and Tylee’s lives are in danger. Lori Vallow, who has recently been living in Hawaii, was given a court order earlier this week directing her to bring the kids to an Idaho Department of Health and Welfare office by 5pm Thursday. (National Center for Missing & Exploited Children via AP)

Lori Vallow then moved to Idaho with her children. She got an apartment in Rexburg in early September and reportedly spent time with an old acquaintance: Chad Daybell.

Daybell is a publisher and author who has written several books loosely based on the theology of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with a focus on doomsday scenarios. He also posted podcasts for an online organization aimed at preparing church members for biblical end times. Vallow participated in some of the podcasts.

Daybell’s longtime wife, Tammy Daybell, died in October. Her obituary said the 49-year-old school librarian died suddenly of natural causes, and the family declined an autopsy before she was buried in Utah.

About two weeks later, Daybell and Vallow married on a beach in Hawaii.

Idaho authorities — increasingly suspicious after hearing that Daybell had married so soon after his wife’s unexpected death — exhumed Tammy Daybell’s body. The results of toxicology and other testing have not yet been released.

“They needed a felony case. And now, according to these charging documents, they have one,” Grace said on “Fox & Friends.”

Grace, a former prosecutor, said Vallow is charged with multiple felonies including child abandonment and obstruction of justice for allegedly lying to police about the whereabouts of her children.

Vallow appeared Friday in court in Hawaii.  Her attorney failed to get her $5 million bail lowered after authorities called her a flight risk.

She was ordered last month by a judge to bring the children to Idaho authorities, but she didn’t comply.  She now faces a hearing March 2 on extradition to Idaho.

As 2020 Democratic presidential candidates head into Saturday’s Nevada caucuses, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders is holding onto a double-digit national lead and subsequently breaking through both Democratic “firewalls,” Fox News contributor Liz Peek said Friday.

In an appearance on “Fox & Friends First” with hosts Rob Schmitt and Jillian Mele, Peek said it was evident after Sanders’ powerful grasp over the rest of the Democratic field and strong showings in both Iowa and New Hampshire that the Democratic Party is in “trouble.”

“I think an awful lot of Democrat officials and leaders across the country are panicked that Bernie Sanders not only is in the lead in Nevada — which is undoubtedly the case — he is closing in on Biden in South Carolina,” she explained.

BERNIE SANDERS CONFIDENT HE WILL HAVE BARACK OBAMA’S BACKING DESPITE REPORTED OPPOSITION

“There were supposed to be two firewalls preventing Bernie Sanders from getting the nomination,” she continued. “One was Biden in South Carolina when you got to these diverse states that Bernie Sanders was not going to do well [in]. The second was Mike Bloomberg. And that was a bit of a shock the other night to watch the debate are realize that, ‘Uh, Mike Bloomberg is not ready for primetime.'”

During the former three-term New York City mayor’s debut appearance on the Las Vegas debate stage, his fellow Democratic candidates did not pull any punches in taking on the billionaire, hitting him on a string of controversial comments and revelations unearthed over the last two weeks.

President Trump would later tweet that Bloomberg’s performance was “perhaps the worst in the history of debates.”

At a campaign event in Utah on Thursday, Bloomberg took his own shots at front-runner Sanders, alleging that the “real winner of the debate last night was Donald Trump,” and that he worries “we may be on the way to nominating someone who cannot win in November.”

The president egged Bloomberg on, tweeting the former mayor’s “real winner” quote with the added comment: “I agree!”

Back-and-forth aside, the RealClearPolitics average and a new 8 News Now/Emerson College poll released ahead of Saturday’s Nevada caucuses show Sanders is the clear front-runner.

Sanders soars above the pack at 30.4 percent. In tow, former Indiana mayor Pete Buttigieg follows with 16.9 percent, former vice president Joe Biden at 16.1 percent, Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren with 12.1 percent and Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar trailing with only 11 percent.

Bloomberg was not included in the poll because he is not listed as a candidate on the Nevada caucus form.

Utah ATM robbery botched despite use of stolen ‘heavy equipment’ to smash machine, police say

A group of thieves in Utah failed to make off with an ATM early Saturday despite smashing the money machine to pieces with stolen “heavy equipment,” investigators said.

The botched robbery unfolded at a Wells Fargo Bank just after 4 a.m. in Hurricane, a city in southwestern Utah, police said in a news release.

The suspects triggered several thousand dollars in damage in their attempt to rip out the ATM using a stolen truck, a trailer and heavy equipment, cops said. They did not elaborate on what the “heavy equipment” exactly was.

Jeanine Pirro to Mitt Romney: ‘How about you get the hell out of the United States Senate?’

Judge Jeanine Pirro minced no words Saturday in slamming Sen. Mitt Romney for being the sole Republican voting to convict President Trump during last week’s Senate impeachment trial.

Pirro claimed that Romney — the 2012 Republican presidential nominee from Utah, who lost to Barack Obama that year — voted the way he did out of jealousy of Trump, who was able to win the White House for the GOP four years later.

“Permit me to introduce you to a non-leader,” Pirro said on “Justice with Judge Jeanine.” “The first United States senator in American history to vote to convict the president of his own party — Mitt Romney, the sole and only Republican to vote to convict President Trump.

“How dare he!” she added. “How could he? And why would he?”

Pirro also criticized Romney and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for invoking their faith while criticizing the president.

“Do you ever wonder why people never mention God or religion — only bring it up when they get caught doing something or when they need an excuse for something they did?” Pirro asked. “What a bunch of phonies.”

Pirro pulled no punches, calling Romney an “embarrassment.”

“Your jealousy of this man [Trump] is a constant rage burning within you because you can never rise to the heights that he has,” Pirro said. “Because guys like you fold like wusses and you don’t have any selflessness or the ability to think about others, as Donald Trump has thought about making America first.”

The host called on Romney to resign from office and ripped his attempt to win over the “Trump-hating left.”

“How about you get the hell out of the United States Senate?” Pirro said. “The people in Utah are furious with you, and your dream of endearing yourself to the Trump-hating left is a joke.”

Swipe at Romney? Utah lawmaker introduces bill to recall US senators

Republican Utah state Rep. Tim Quinn has introduced a bill in that state’s legislature that would allow voters to recall U.S. senators — a possible swipe at Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, despite Quinn saying the bill isn’t targeted at anyone in particular.

First reported by Deseret News, the bill would create a process by which a recall vote could go on the ballot after a petition by voters.

“I know that’s what’s going to be the narrative,” Quinn told the Deseret News when asked if the bill was aimed at Romney, the sitting GOP senator whose current term doesn’t expire until 2025. “If it were, then it might make sense to have a sunset on it. That would not be the case.”

Utah state Rep. Tim Quinn introduced H.B. 217, legislation that would allow the state’s voters to recall their senators in the middle of their terms.

SEAN HANNITY WARNS ROMNEY AS POLL SHOWS PITFALLS OF IMPEACHMENT WITNESS DRIVE

“Six years is a long time,” he said, according to the Deseret News.

Romney has been under pressure from Republicans for his seeming willingness to buck President Trump, especially amid impeachment proceedings. Specifically, Romney has been open to hearing witnesses in Trump’s Senate impeachment trial at a time when most Republicans are in favor of a fast acquittal of the president.

The proposed bar for putting a recall vote on a ballot is quite high, requiring the signatures of 25 percent of “the number of active voters in the state.” In addition, senators could not be recalled within the first year of their term, within a year of winning a recall election or within a year of the end of their term.

The bill, if passed, would likely face a constitutional challenge.

An Arkansas effort to impose term limits on its representatives was struck down by the Supreme Court in 1995, with the majority opinion saying that states are not authorized to add requirements for individuals to qualify for federal office — specifically, in that case, not having served in that body for a certain amount of time. Requiring senators to avoid a recall to keep their seats might run afoul of that same principle.
