Ilhan Omar Joins the Black-Jewish Caucus, Immediately Does What You’d Expect

Rep. Lee Zeldin (R-NY) speaks on the floor of the U.S. House – 3/7/19. Screen grab via his YouTube page.

House Representative and noted anti-Semite Ilhan Omar has decided to join the “Black-Jewish Caucus,” which is a newly formed, bi-partisan group of lawmakers. Jewish Republican Lee Zeldin, among four others, is a founding member. The purpose is stated as building bridges between two historically oppressed groups.

The irony of Omar joining is that the group was formed in part as a response to her antisemitic assertion that American support of Israel was bought by Jewish money.

The new caucus followed multiple shootings at American synagogues as well as concern over remarks made by both Sarsour and Omar. The American Jewish Congress specifically called for a bipartisan group of Jewish lawmakers to form after Omar suggested that Israel had bought support from the U.S.

While a union between Jewish and black lawmakers sounds mundane on the surface, things get much more complicated when you start including an anti-Semite who wears a religion on her sleeve that has oppressed and murdered Jews for millennia. Even past that, her personal stances on Israel, support of Palestinian terrorism, and support for BDS, also make it pretty difficult to “build bridges” in this case. If Omar were apologetic about any of that, things might be different but she’s not in the least.

Sure enough, instead of bringing a humble attitude to the group, Omar immediately endorsed and propagated an attack from rabid anti-Semite Linda Sarsour.

This is typical antisemitic garbage. Zeldin is not an anti-Arab “bigot” for supporting Israel’s right to exist. Accusing Jews of being in league with Nazis is also typical of Palestinian, antisemitic propaganda and is related to efforts to downplay the Holocaust. See here for a recent example. Sarsour has a long history of supporting terrorist actions, making false claims about Jews, and propagating antisemitism.

For her part, Ilhan Omar wanted everyone to know that even though she’s joining the Black-Jewish Caucus, she still supports Linda Sarsour and all the same antisemitic things she supported before. In fact, it’s Zeldin that she hopes changes.

I’m sure this is going to end really well.

Zeldin responded in a measured tone.

Good luck with that Congressman. Omar is almost certainly going to use her membership to further divide. She’s already doing that and the ink isn’t even dry on the paperwork. She has no capacity to be “better than this,” partly because she is reinforced by Democrats and the media every time she makes a disgusting attack. This isn’t going to stop and will only escalate. Imagine what her response is going to be the first time the caucus does something in support of Israel.

Omar’s personal views and support for anti-Semites like Sarsour aren’t going away because no one is insisting they go away. The Democratic party has completely caved to their left-wing base on these issues.

To Correct the HBO Series on Chernobyl Moscow Will to Produce a Conspiracy Thriller Blaming the U.S.

Westlake Legal Group Chernobyl To Correct the HBO Series on Chernobyl Moscow Will to Produce a Conspiracy Thriller Blaming the U.S. Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

The Kremlin wants to correct the record on the nuclear disaster so it will resort to propaganda.

The HBO dramatic series “Chernobyl” has become a cultural surprise hit. Not only is it hailed as being impressively dramatic but people on both sides of the political spectrum have found reasons to support the show. That is not the case over in Russia, for understandable reasons.

While HBO is not directly available in that country viewers can subscribe to stream online, and “Chernobyl” has proven to be popular with the Russian population. Describing the show as a “sensation”, the Moscow Times details at length how the details and depictions displayed have bothered Vladamir Putin and members of the Kremlin deeply.

Various state-backed news outlets across the country have responded to the HBO drama, working to describe “Chernobyl” as anything from being agitprop to an organized effort to destabilize perceptions of Russia being a nuclear power. It is very deep in the article when a curious announcement is given.

Still, an attempt will be made to put an entirely different spin on those events. Russia’s NTV channel has already announced that it is shooting its own “Chernobyl” series based on the premise that the CIA sent an agent to the Chernobyl zone to carry out acts of sabotage.

Well, that sure seems convenient. And misguided. They offer up a glimpse of where the focus of their homegrown drama is going to be centered, and it already sounds like a direct-to-rental disaster I would be excited to watch.

As justification for the story, the film’s director, Alexei Muradov, cited fringe conspiracy theorists: “One theory holds that Americans had infiltrated the Chernobyl nuclear power plant and many historians do not deny that, on the day of the explosion, an agent of the enemy’s intelligence services was present at the station.”

Well, nothing underscores the seriousness and sober treatment of the story regarding a national tragedy better than turning to fringe conspiracy theories for your source material. I am also curious about one other detail with their proposed property. How is the CIA striving to negatively impact the Russian nuclear program by sabotaging a power plant — located in Ukraine?

Clearly, the members of the Kremlin have vodka-tinted noses bent out of joint and are rushing into production an answer to the offense of Westerners telling the story of their national embarrassment. The amusement is that Russian authorities are not resorting to a deeply serious documentary to dispel what it regards as misinformation; it is instead concocting a crackpot explanation delivered in a pulp-fiction style thriller.

It is summarized as “Moscow gives us a thrilling detective film based on a conspiracy theory in which a KGB officer struggles to thwart American spies — the new villains in this national tragedy.” The villains are “new”?! That does not sound like a correction of the record. It sounds like a desperate lurch at deflecting blame…and/or it sounds like a low-budget action title you would stumble across when searching movies in your local RedBox machine.

And I promise you, when it does show up for rental, I am snapping up a copy for myself!

An Arrow Aimed at America’s Heartland

=========

Promoted from the diaries by streiff. Promotion does not imply endorsement.
=========
=========

Are you ready to get down into the weeds and look at a current attack on our Federal System through the lenses of American Constitutional History to gain an understanding of something which is nothing less than an arrow aimed at America’s Heartland?

This is a wakeup call to citizens of Middle America of a plot to strip us of our electoral importance by the entrenched elites of the Deep State.

Recently, Nevada became the 15th state to pass a measure granting its Electoral College votes to the candidate winning the nationwide popular vote regardless of how the citizens of their own State voted.
This movement is being led by an organization called National Popular Vote.  The founders of the 501(c)(4) Are election law expert and attorney Barry Fadem and John Kaza (co-inventor of the scratch off lottery ticket).

Fadem and Kaza both have impressive careers filled with professional achievement.  However, it’s easy for anyone with even a smattering of knowledge of civics to discount their efforts by assuming though they may be intelligent and accomplished they don’t know much about how our government is designed to work.

In reality the exact opposite might be the case.  These two and their organization aim to disrupt the balance between the States and have intentionally launched this arrow aimed at America’s Heartland.
Their objective is to influence a group of States whose electoral votes total 270, which is the number needed to win the presidency, into an alliance binding them to follow a majority vote attainable by a combination of New York, New England, and the Left Coast without regard to how the citizens of the States voted.

During the Constitutional Convention the Framers vigorously debated how the government they were designing should operate.  When looking at the election of the chief executive they rejected direct democracy because they believed it was too prone to result in a majority that would act as a tyrant.

Looking back across time this collection of largely homeschooled patriots drew upon their knowledge of history and philosophy.  Specifically they looked to the writings of Plato who wrote in the Republic that the people or the demos, as they were called in Greek could not be trusted because they would inevitably vote for whoever promised to meet their desires of the moment even if that meant taking from others or from the national treasury.  In other words they would vote for a Santa Clause over a Washington or a Jefferson.  A lesson well learned and applied by the pitiful politicians promising paradise who make up the best Congress money can buy.

Plato thought the majority would lack the knowledge and wisdom to make sound choices.  Of course he didn’t know about our enlightened American education system that spends more time indoctrinating the young skulls full of mush about Al Gore’s Climate hoax religion than it does about the founding of this country.  A federally controlled union infected system spends more energy turning our children into good little socialist than teaching them that capitalism has raised more people out of poverty than any other system ever devised.

Instead of echoing the platitudes of Comrade Sanders and AOC as if they had any chance of working in the real world our government indoctrinators could teach about how the Connecticut Compromise led to the structure of our bicameral legislature and the executive branch.  They could teach that the electoral college was created to prevent the United States from becoming a place where the majority subjugated the minority.

Hamilton and Madison, two of the key strategists in devising our government focused on factions or combinations of likeminded people who work together to advance their own interests.  Mainly they spoke of majorities and minorities.  Madison especially thought that government must be structured in such a way as to fragment the power of the majority so that it could not become tyrannical.

When you read Federalist 9 (Hamilton), Federalist10, and Federalist 51 (Madison), these deep thinking political theorists identified three key elements they felt existed to help give the new United States a chance for success: its population size, geographic size, and the differing interests of the independent States.  Back in those days before smartphones, the Internet, Facebook, Twitter, and 24-hour cable news, these factors made it difficult if not impossible for minority factions to combine into a coalition large enough to do any real damage to our system.  But today with near instantaneous communication people can be rallied quickly which means emotions can easily out run reflection

In America today intolerant minority factions can be whipped up into tyrannical majorities in a way the Framers never imagined.  At the very time in our history when we are more vulnerable than ever to manipulated majority rule the National Popular Vote movement wants us to embrace direct democracy at the presidential level.

The Framers designed a system of government limited in scope and shackled by the Constitution.  A system designed to do little as opposed to doing too much.  They attempted to build a system based on the nature of man.  A system of divided power able to control humanity’s less desirable tendencies.

As Madison said in Federalist #51, “If angels were to govern men, neither external nor internal controls on government would be necessary. In framing a government which is to be administered by men over men, the great difficulty lies in this: you must first enable the government to control the governed; and in the next place oblige it to control itself.”

This identifies the basic problem perfectly.  We aren’t angels.
Because of this we need controls designed to prevent unfettered majority dominance.  The Electoral College is the tool given to us by the Framers to make sure all of the States have a voice that is heard.

However, if enough States adopt the National Popular Vote this safeguard will be neutralized, not through amending the Constitution but instead by doing an end-run around it.  If this happens we’ll take a long step towards the dystopian vision our Framers sought to avoid: the tyranny of the majority.

One question I have is, “How do these political manipulators convince people to vote to make their future votes irrelevant?”  To paraphrase Lincoln, “You can fool all of the people some of the time, and some of the people all of the time but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. But you can probably fool enough people to convince a majority to vote themselves onto the sidelines of History.” If this arrow finds its mark a bicoastal electoral juggernaut will trample the voice of the Heartland into the dust of History.

NEW: A Whopper of a Misrepresentation Discovered In the Mueller Report

Westlake Legal Group Trump-Mueller NEW: A Whopper of a Misrepresentation Discovered In the Mueller Report Robert Mueller President Trump Paul Manafort Mueller Investigation Konstantin Kilimnik John Solomon Impeachment of President Trump Front Page Stories corruption Allow Media Exception Alan Purcell Abuse of Power

The Hill’s John Solomon has discovered a major misrepresentation in the Mueller Report.

In the opening of the report, the Mueller team ties Ukrainian businessman Konstantin Kilimnik, who worked for Paul Manafort’s lobbying firm, to Russian intelligence. The reality is that Kilimnik was a top informant for the U.S. State Department and other Western intelligence agencies as well.

Solomon reports:

Hundreds of pages of government documents — which special counsel Robert Mueller possessed since 2018 — describe Kilimnik as a “sensitive” intelligence source for the U.S. State Department who informed on Ukrainian and Russian matters.

The incomplete portrayal of Kilimnik is so important to Mueller’s overall narrative that it is raised in the opening of his report. “The FBI assesses” Kilimnik “to have ties to Russian intelligence,” Mueller’s team wrote on page 6, putting a sinister light on every contact Kilimnik had with Manafort, the former Trump campaign chairman.

What it doesn’t state is that Kilimnik was a “sensitive” intelligence source for State going back to at least 2013 while he was still working for Manafort, according to FBI and State Department memos I reviewed.

He interacted with the chief political officer at the U.S. Embassy in Kiev, sometimes meeting several times a week to provide information on the Ukraine government. He relayed messages back to Ukraine’s leaders and delivered written reports to U.S. officials via emails that stretched on for thousands of words, the memos show.

The FBI knew all of this, well before the Mueller investigation concluded.

Alan Purcell, the chief political officer at the Kiev embassy from 2014 to 2017, told FBI agents that State officials, including senior embassy officials Alexander Kasanof and Eric Schultz, deemed Kilimnik to be such a valuable asset that they kept his name out of cables for fear he would be compromised by leaks to WikiLeaks.

Solomon, a long time investigative reporter, has extensive contacts inside the U.S. intelligence community. One of the FBI interview reports he reviewed said, “Purcell described what he considered an unusual level of discretion that was taken with handling Kilimnik. Normally the head of the political section would not handle sources, but Kasanof informed Purcell that KILIMNIK was a sensitive source.”

The report states:

Purcell told the FBI that Kilimnik provided “detailed information about OB (Ukraine’s opposition bloc) inner workings” that sometimes was so valuable it was forwarded immediately to the ambassador. Purcell learned that other Western governments relied on Kilimnik as a source, too.”

“One time, in a meeting with the Italian embassy, Purcell heard the Italian ambassador echo a talking point that was strikingly familiar to the point Kilimnik had shared with Purcell.”

According to the report, Kasanof said he was aware that Kilimnik worked for Manafort and “the administration of former Ukraine President Viktor Yanukovych whose Party of Regions hired Manafort’s firm…Kasanof described Kilimnik as one of the few reliable insiders the U.S. Embassy had informing on Yanukovych. Kasanof told the FBI:

Kilimnik was one of the only people within the administration who was willing to talk to USEMB (U.S. Embassy) and provided information about the inner workings of Yanukovych’s administration.

Most sources of information in Ukraine were slanted in one direction or another. Kilimnik came across as less slanted than others.

Kilimnik was flabbergasted at the Russian invasion of Crimea.

Kasanof also told the agents that he “met with Kilimnik at least bi-weekly and occasionally multiple times in the same week.”

Kilimnik owned homes in both Russia and Ukraine, but “State officials told the FBI he did not appear to hold any allegiance to Moscow and was critical of Russia’s invasion of the Crimean territory of Ukraine.”

Solomon wrote that “three sources with direct knowledge of the inner workings of Mueller’s office confirmed” that the Mueller team had received “all of the FBI interviews with State officials, as well as Kilimnik’s intelligence reports to the U.S. Embassy” at some point in 2018. Yet in their March 2019 report, they claimed he was a Russian asset and charged him with working with “Manafort in a scheme to obstruct the Russia investigation.”

Solomon had access to “scores of State Department emails” which “contained regular intelligence from Kilimnik on happenings inside the Yanukovych administration, the Crimea conflict and Ukrainian and Russian politics.” He said that all of these documents corroborate Kasanof’s and Purcell’s interviews. He added:

For example, the memos show Kilimnik provided real-time intelligence on everything from whose star in the administration was rising or falling to efforts at stuffing ballot boxes in Ukrainian elections.

Those emails raise further doubt about the Mueller report’s portrayal of Kilimnik as a Russian agent. They show Kilimnik was allowed to visit the United States twice in 2016 to meet with State officials, a clear sign he wasn’t flagged in visa databases as a foreign intelligence threat.

The emails also show how misleading, by omission, the Mueller report’s public portrayal of Kilimnik turns out to be.

The Mueller report states that in August 2016, “Kilimnik requested the meeting [with Paul Manafort at Trump Tower] to deliver in person a peace plan for Ukraine that Manafort acknowledged to the Special Counsel’s Office was a ‘backdoor’ way for Russia to control part of eastern Ukraine.”

Yet the State emails which Solomon reviewed indicated that Kilimnik had delivered the plan to the Obama administration three months earlier. He met Kasanof for dinner on May 5, 2016 in Washington. The next day, Kilimnik “sent an email to Kasanof’s official State email address recounting the peace plan they had discussed.”

Solomon described the email he had seen:

Russia wanted “a quick settlement” to get “Ukraine out of the way and get rid of sanctions and move to economic stuff they are interested in. The email offered eight bullet points for the peace plan — starting with a ceasefire, a law creating economic recovery zones to rebuild war-torn Ukrainian regions, and a “presidential decree on amnesty” for anyone involved in the conflict on both sides.

Kilimnik also provided a valuable piece of intelligence, stating that the old Yanukovych political party aligned with Russia was dead. “Party of Regions cannot be reincarnated. It is over,” he wrote, deriding as “stupid” a Russian-backed politician who wanted to restart the party.

Kasanof responded that, though he was “skeptical of some of the intelligence on Russian intentions, it was very important for us to know…I passed the info to my bosses, who are chewing it over.”

In his interview with the FBI, Kasanof said he believed he “sent Kilimnik’s peace plan to two senior State officials, including Victoria Nuland, Obama’s Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian affairs.”

The Mueller report, unsurprisingly, makes no mention of the fact that Kilimnik had given the peace plan to his handler at the State Department in May, but presents his delivery of the plan to Manafort three months later as “potentially nefarious.”

This is a major misrepresentation. Documents indicate that the Mueller team had all of this information in early 2018, yet their final report written one year later omits the one and includes (and embellishes) the other.

Solomon also saw an email Kilimnik had sent last month to The Washington Post, in which “he slammed the Mueller report’s “made-up narrative” about him. “I have no ties to Russian or, for that matter, any intelligence operation.”

Last week, it was reported that the Mueller report omitted an important sentence from a voicemail left by former Trump attorney John Dowd to Flynn’s attorney, Robert Kelner. That omission completely changed the meaning of the message.

Yesterday, I posted here about the Special Counsel prosecutors’ refusal to turn over transcripts of Michael Flynn’s December 2016 telephone conversations with then-Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak, despite Judge Emmet Sullivan’s request. What are they trying to hide?

And now, we have John Solomon’s bombshell revelation about how the Mueller team completely mischaracterized the role of Konstantin Kilimnik.

That’s three red flags in one week. And I can’t imagine that’s the end of it. My guess is that a careful examination of Mueller’s report will offer up a treasure trove of omissions, misrepresentations and outright lies.

Add to that Mueller’s deceptive press conference last week, during which he sought to stir up impeachment fever among House Democrats. Ultimately, Mueller had to walk back his incendiary remarks in a joint statement with the DOJ.

Mueller’s credibility has taken a huge hit. His report will rightly be scrutinized in the weeks to come and likely be viewed as the partisan propaganda we thought it would be.

And just like the powerful master of the universe Robert S. Mueller III said himself, we’ll let the report speak for itself.

What Happens When Our Social And Digital Media Outsource Their Jobs To The Rabble

Inasmuch as I don’t particularly care for Steven Crowder – I’m not his target audience and my preferred brand of comedy is more sociological than political – I spent the bulk of this week ignoring the issue, other than to silently note that once again the mob dictates the rules, not the companies that supposedly wrote them.

However, there is so much happening in media right now that it all seems to be too much to be coincidence.

Let’s start with Crowder. In a spat with a Vox writer who goes by “GayWonk” on Twitter, Crowder got himself in hot water essentially by playing his foe’s game. The man goes by “GayWonk”, lives by his identity, and uses it to make his points. However, when Crowder plays up the man’s preferred identity (I can certainly see how some would take offense to Crowder’s methods), he gets in trouble for it. The mob moves in and gets YouTube to demonetize his videos, cutting off his revenue from YouTube.

YouTube is justifying the action by condemning Crowder as “hateful” speech, and perhaps the argument could be made. The problem is that YouTube is so inconsistent in applying this standard that you could easily find a dozen channels in minutes who are a hundred times more offensive, but they don’t draw the mob against them like Crowder does.

Meanwhile we have Facebook, as I mentioned yesterday, taking action against TheBlaze for what the social media giant said was “clickbait”. However, that term denotes a story whose headlines blows the actual content out of proportion. The idea is that the headline is meant to make you click on something because it sounds so outrageous, but the actual story is nowhere near as dramatic.

Facebook’s standard seems to focus on half of that, saying that the intent of the headline to make you click is what makes it clickbait. This could not be any more dumb, though, as essentially every headline written in this digital era is meant to do exactly that. Again, it is a poorly-enforce policy that, strangely enough, targets a conservative outlet.

Over at a more traditional outlet, CNN announced this week that it has hired Daniel Dale to be a fact checker for its political coverage. While you may not know who Dale is, a brief scan of his timeline since President Donald Trump took office will reveal that he is absolutely silent when it comes to “fact checking” specious Democratic claims while he is more of a well-actuallyer than a fact-checker when it comes to Republicans.

These three stories have a lot to do with each other. They form a pattern that has been growing more and more obvious for a while now: The mob, which typically leans in one particular political direction, has a greater say over policy and enforcement than the actual companies that write the barely-literate and rarely-enforced policies to begin with.

For YouTube and Facebook, theirs is a response to an outraged mob hellbent on proving they are right and everyone who disagrees with them is wrong. The Bulwark, in classic Bulwark style, seems to be fine with this, as a piece devoted to declaring the right and conservative thing to do is to condemn Crowder as a homophobe and bigot.

But, the writer of that piece, much like the mob in general, fails to understand that this isn’t about Crowder, TheBlaze, or any other conservative (and in their eyes, therefore, controversial) icon. Yes it is absolutely true that Facebook and YouTube, like Twitter and other social/digital media sites, are privately owned and therefore aren’t constitutionally obligated to allow all speech. But it is also important to note that allowing mobs to dictate how you run your business is a bad idea, because you do have a certain level of obligation to consistency in the market. Inconsistency breeds distrust and ultimately kills businesses. Allowing the mob to dictate what you should or should not do is not only bad for business, it’s just pure laziness.

CNN’s hire, meanwhile, may seem like it is unrelated to the issue at hand here, but in all actuality, it is yet another indicator that these media sites, rather than enforcing what they already say are the rules, are simply getting lazy.

The very act of journalism is “fact-checking.” Editors exist to fix grammatical mistakes and make sure your facts are factual and your opinion is separate. Fact-checkers, as they now exist, are used to inject opinion into scenarios in order to justify calling something “true” or “false”. Where facts are simply true or false, fact-checkers bring “if A, then B” analyzes into the equation to dilute the original point of the politician or political speaker and make it something that can be argued.

It is the diluting that makes all of this so chaotic in the long run. YouTube and Facebook have rules about “offensive speech” and “clickbait”, but those rules are so diluted by inconsistency and political bias that they only act on them when a mob gets loud enough. CNN has rules about accuracy in reporting and making sure the facts are in line, but those facts are diluted by fact-checkers with political agendas who want to obfuscate the truth just enough to get away with altering what the truth actually is.

The result is the insanity we see in our politics on a daily basis. The people who have caused this chaos – a vocal minority, a mob that is only as effective as it is loud, and it is very loud – will learn no lesson if this is ever turned around on them. After all, who would turn this around on them? These mobs are all leftists and the places that listen to them favor them anyway.

One thing they won’t realize until it’s too late, though, is that they’ll be running off their sources of income.

That is to say, you and I.

Defying the Hysterics, Mexico Starts Caving to Trump’s Tariff Threats

Westlake Legal Group mexican-police-caravan-620x413 Defying the Hysterics, Mexico Starts Caving to Trump’s Tariff Threats United States threats Tariffs Politics Migrant Flows Mexico Mexican National Guard Illegal Immigration Guatemala Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story donald trump democrats deal Caving border enforcement

Mexican federal police in riot gear receive instructions at the border crossing between Guatemala and Mexico, in Ciudad Hidalgo, Mexico, Friday, Oct. 19, 2018. Members of a 3,000-strong migrant caravan have massed in this Guatemalan border town across the muddy Suchiate River from Mexico, as U.S. President Donald Trump threatens retaliation if they continue toward the United States. (AP Photo/Moises Castillo)

I’ve been critical of Trump’s trade policies at times. My instinct is to oppose tariffs, especially if they are targeted to benefit certain industries at the expense of consumers and other workers. For example, I don’t think Pennsylvania residents are inherently more entitled to steel manufacturing jobs than any other American. Trump’s messaging can often be confusing and that’s been part of the issue. Tariffs as leverage are good. Tariffs as a means to their own end are inevitably harmful.

Despite my prior concerns, at some point I made the decision that I was done reacting rashly toward the President’s trade policy. I found much of the hysteria on the right over every new rumor of a tariff to be tedious and an overreaction. The economy is not going to crash because your Chipotle burrito might cost $0.05 more and even dealing with the bigger items, we were actually talking small fractions of the overall price being affected. One could certainly argue that even small increases are worthy of disapproval and harmful, but the constant preaching of Armageddon is all just a bit much.

I say all that to say that when President Trump announced new tariff threats toward Mexico in order to get them to help with illegal immigration, I took a wait and see approach. It was clear to me that this was a leverage play and that Mexico had far more to lose than we did. I opined at the time that I doubted they’d ever even go into effect.

I may end up being right because Mexico is currently in the process of caving to Trump’s demands.

This follows reports that Mexico is already beefing up its southern border.

Mexican soldiers, armed police and migration officials blocked hundreds of migrants after they crossed the border from Guatemala in a caravan into southern Mexico on Wednesday, and detained dozens of them, a witness from a migrant aid group and an official said.

The Mexican response in the border town of Metapa, which included dozens of soldiers, marked a toughening of the government’s efforts to curb the flow of mainly Central American migrants, said Salva Cruz, a coordinator with Fray Matias de Cordova.

“That many sailors and military police, yes, it’s new,” Cruz said, by WhatsApp, from Metapa, in the southern border state of Chiapas, where the vast majority of migrants cross into Mexico.

Things are moving quickly and there’s still a lot up in the air but what’s clear is that Mexico got the message.

They have no desire to take the hit when they so heavily rely on exports to the U.S. for their economic stability. In the past, the Mexicans have rebuffed signing a “safe 3rd country” agreement with us. We have such an agreement with Canada already. What it essentially does is say that migrants (they aren’t technically illegal aliens yet) must make their asylum claims in the first country they arrive in that isn’t their own. Guatemalans must do so in Mexico while Hondurans would do so in Guatemala, etc.

This helps stem the flow of “asylum shopping,” where migrants pass up perfectly safe offers of asylum in order to get to the U.S. for economic reasons. Asylum is not an ticket to try to find the best situation possible. It’s there to mitigate life threatening situations.

Now, Mexico and Guatemala are working with us to setup proper asylum procedures, where they aren’t making a dangerous 2,000 mile trip when asylum is being offered to them where they are in Mexico.

The news has some conservatives changing their tune on the whole ordeal.

Good for Shapiro. One of the reasons I enjoy his material is that he does his best to be an honest broker. He’s willing to admit he was wrong here when a lot of other “conservative” voices wouldn’t.

If I’m Donald Trump, I take this deal or something close to it. There’s only so much Mexico can do and these latest terms seem like a max effort to me. It’s unrealistic to think they can actually stop all migrant flows to the the U.S. but if they are willing to help us enforce logical asylum policies and send thousands of troops to their southern border, that’s a big win for the President.

Even if a deal is struck in the next few days, one thing is certain. Democrats will oppose it because the goal for them has never been to stop illegal immigration or secure the border. They want these people making the inhuman journey at the behest of the cartels because they see these people as political leverage. No doubt some liberal judge will attempt to get involved here as well.

Regardless, it appears that Trump’s leverage play has worked and perhaps that’ll earn him a little more benefit of the doubt next time. Ah, who am I kidding?

WATCH: Antifa Member Tries to Imprison Republican Students In a Room and Regrets It

A member of Antifa attempted to lock Republican students in a room while they were listening to a speaker but failed so spectacularly that he wound up in handcuffs himself.

According to KTTH the UW College Republicans were meeting in Thompson Hall to watch a guest speaker from YouTube channel Operation Cold Front. Emerald City Antifa apparently got wind of the event and decided it would try to take action with a call from its Facebook page.

Just a reminder to people at the UW that the Operation Cold Front crew (who you might remember from such antics as “It’s ok to be White” signs, transphobic harassment of students, posing as Black Lives Matter to ask for reparations, harassing people outside an abortion clinic, and more) will be having a speaking engagement at the UW June 3rd at 6pm in Thomson Hall rm 101. There’s space for 100 or so people, but for those who show up, some useful tactics might to sit in using large items that take up additional seats, maybe with headphones in so you don’t have to hear their garbage, or noise demo tactics such as whistles to make it difficult for them to speak over.

They have recently put out some very ugly, transphobic material and were harrassing queer students at Evergreen, and we hope that we can take some time out this Pride Month to have our queer siblings backs, and not allow these assholes to have a platform.

These people are Proud Boy chuds, and Proud Boy chud supporters, they have been caught on video yelling “yt power!” while harassing womxn, and have a history of harassing womxn (including one of the co-hosts who is an accused rapist). These people belong to the Him Too movement, an anti-MeToo, misogynist, homophobic, transphobic, “traditionalist” Men’s Rights trash fire. They should not be on campus bothering students.

So, if you’re able, show up to deplatform.

Apparently, the call went unanswered for the most part. The event went by pretty quietly with the speaker being uninterrupted. Near the end, however, one of the Republican students saw a man in black approach the door.

“I saw a guy in black approach the door but there had been no protest outside or anything so antifa wasn’t necessarily on my radar,” UWCR member Zach Wildfang told The Jason Rantz Show on KTTH. “He crouched down and immediately slapped his chain around the door.”

The chain made a racket as the Antifa member tried to wrap it around the handle and lock the Republicans inside.

“We heard the rattling from inside,” said UWCR president Chevy Swanson. “We looked to see through the window and see that someone was messing with the door. And it’s very clearly a chain being attached. So personally I ran up to the door and opened it on him, the chain fell to the ground, and he ran off, which is good because I much prefer not to be chained in a room with 30 other people indefinitely.”

As this happened a video camera was rolling. The moment the door is opened and the chain dropped, the college Republicans took off after the Antifa member who had fled the moment his plan failed.

The footage begins around the 50-minute mark.

“One of the other attendees of the event caught up to him and called the police and the police end up coming and arresting him,” said Swanson.

According to KTTH, the Antifa member was identified as 18-year-old Ezra Benner, who had reportedly shown up to previous Republican events but had never been disruptive.

NC Jewelry Store Manager out of a Job After Refusing to Serve a Uniformed Sheriff’s Deputy Because He Was Armed

Screen grab via WBTV News.

A store manager for a Kay Jewelers in Statesville, North Carolina is looking for work after a sheriff’s deputy says he was refused service because he was armed.

In a Facebook post published Wednesday, the Iredell County Sheriff’s office wrote that a uniformed deputy went to the store on his lunch break to pick up an engagement ring. That’s when things turned weird:

A uniformed deputy, while on his lunch break, was notified the engagement ring he had purchased for his upcoming wedding proposal, had been sized and was ready for him to pick up at Kay Jewelers located on Turnersburg Highway in Statesville.

The deputy took his meal break to pick up the ring, and was met at the door by the store manager, who informed him he was not allowed to wear his service weapon while on their premises.

The deputy informed the manager he was in uniform and his marked patrol car was in the parking lot, and it would be a violation of policy for him to remove his service weapon while in uniform.

The sheriff’s office went on to note that that policy was in place for a reason:

This policy is in place for not only the safety of the deputy, but the general public as well. The manager stated our deputy would need to return to the store at a different time when he was not armed. The deputy left the store, without the ring he had purchased.

The Iredell County Sheriffs Office, along with Sheriff Darren Campbell, are deeply saddened at a situation involving a…

As a result of this incident, Kay Jewelers has issued a statement indicating that the manager is no longer employed by the store:

Sheriff Darren Campbell told WBTV News in the video clip below that he believes the deputy was refused service not just because of his gun, but because he was wearing a law enforcement uniform.

“This was an attack because of a uniform,” Campbell stated. “This was an attack because this officer, a young officer – his chosen profession is law enforcement. And he was refused service because of that.”

Watch:

As I’ve written before on this issue, it still floors me when I think about the fact that the idiots who refuse service or who otherwise give shoddy/disrespectful service to our military veterans and law enforcement officers actually think they can get away with it.

Military veterans and law enforcement officers share time in their respective fields under the harshest conditions imaginable. They train together. They work together. They shed blood, sweat, and tears together. They have each other’s backs. They’re willing to take bullets for each other.

And it’s deeply personal to every one of them when one of their own comes under attack, whether in the battlefield, in the line of duty here stateside, or in the normal, everyday roles they serve in their communities.

Anti-law enforcement/military service workers (which I assume is the case here) should know better than to think that the people who rush to protect and defend their fellow Americans whether at home or abroad are actually going to take being insulted and disrespected lying down.

But said workers have been emboldened by ResistanceWestlake Legal Group 2122 NC Jewelry Store Manager out of a Job After Refusing to Serve a Uniformed Sheriff’s Deputy Because He Was Armed resistance Politics North Carolina law enforcement law Guns gun rights gun control Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post Culture Allow Media Exception #TheResistance culture, and act accordingly. So be it. In the end, though, they will more often than not find out it’s not worth it – as the manager in this case did.

Bipartisan Opposition Seems to Doom This Trump Judicial Nominee’s Chances For Confirmation

Westlake Legal Group gavel-and-book-620x465 Bipartisan Opposition Seems to Doom This Trump Judicial Nominee’s Chances For Confirmation Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

Despite a highly successful White House program of selecting extremely well qualified jurists and pushing their nominations through the Senate, there have been flies in the ointment. As best I can tell five of Trump’s nominees have been forced to withdraw.

  • Brett J Talley. The ABA hated him and he didn’t disclose that he was married to the chief of staff of the guy, Don McGahn, who was in charge of Trump’s judicial selection program.
  • Jeff Mateer. Some years ago he said mean things about transgender delusionists.
  • Matthew Spencer Petersen. Had never tried a case and couldn’t define basic legal terms.
  • Thomas Farr. He’d worked for Jesse Helms and defended North Carolina’s voter ID law.
  • Ryan Bounds. While in college he’d expressed doubts that the racial separatism sought by a lot of black and Hispanic students was a good thing.

Now anotherone may be ready to join them.

A couple of weeks ago I posted about a Trump nominee named Michael Bogren who had his butt handed to him by Josh Hawley in his confirmation hearing. Bogren had defended the city of East Lansing, MI, in a religious discrimination lawsuit…that it eventually lost. The crux of the matter was that the city barred a farmer who did not live in the city from being able to participate in the farmer’s market in the city because he would not allow gay weddings on his farm. In the view of Hawley, he was a little too enthusiastic as he compared the Catholic Church to the KKK.

See Josh Hawley Barbecues One Of President Trump’s Judicial Nominees For His Anti-Religious Bias.

At National Review, Ed Whelan, who I usually like to read, took the absurd position that comparing an article of faith in a religion with the beliefs of the KKK was okay so long as you were a lawyer defending a client. And there was a behind the scenes deal of some kind which Hawley’s principled questioning threatened to upset.

When Hawley rebutted the article, Ted Cruz weighed in.

On Monday, North Carolina Senator Thom Tillis also said he will not support Bogren.

The Senate Judiciary Committee had 12 GOP and 10 Democrats, so losing three GOP votes should be fatal as nearly all votes in that committee have been party line.

I think Hawley is exactly right.

The DC establishment has treated religion as the punchline in a joke for far too long. They drag it out to fire up the base and then tell us to pay no attention when one of the good ol’ boys treats people of faith with contempt. Bogren had two choices to make. He didn’t have to take the case as his law firm had other partners. When he did take the case he didn’t have to go scorched earth and ridicule the religious beliefs of the plaintiffs as well as their own adherence to those beliefs. A warning needs to be sent to this and future White Houses that those days are gone forever.
