Iowa “Beer Money” Charity Guy, Carson King, Gets the Last Laugh Despite Media Attempts to Destroy Him

Westlake Legal Group 7191fc7f-d60a-4419-b0db-907f44c51a61-620x317 Iowa “Beer Money” Charity Guy, Carson King, Gets the Last Laugh Despite Media Attempts to Destroy Him Social Media Media Kim Reynolds Iowa Internet Front Page Stories Featured Story Des Moines Register children's hospital charity Carson King beer Allow Media Exception

Despite the Des Moines Register’s attempts at destroying the reputation of a man who raised over $1 million for a children’s hospital by surfacing tweets he sent when he was 16, Carson King is being celebrated as the local hero he is with his own day and a beer named after him.

According to the New York Post, Governor Kim Reynolds of Iowa shrugged off the controversy and gave King his own official day:

Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds ignored the controversy and on Wednesday signed an official proclamation naming this Saturday as “Carson King Day.”

“Individuals like Carson King demonstrate how ‘Iowa Nice’ isn’t just a slogan, but our way of life,” the proclamation says.

Not only does King have his own official day, but a brewery was angry enough with Anheuser-Busch cutting ties with King over the controversy that it actually made a beer in King’s honor, and will use the sale of it for charity:

Geneseo Brewing Company, meanwhile, said it was so “appalled” by Busch dumping its support of King it was stepping in to produce its own “Iowa Legend” beer in his honor.

The beer will be sold in its brewpub and $1 from each pint or can sold will go towards King’s money-raising efforts, head brewer Glenn Cole said in a statement on Facebook.

Not only does all well that ends well, but the charitable giving also continues under King’s example. King himself even said that he’s not going to stop at $1 million, he’s going to see if he can push it to $2 million.

King has had a roller coaster ride of highs and lows after he first appeared in the mainstream media for his unorthodox way of raising money. What started as a simple joke of asking for beer money with a sign on live TV ended up being a highly watched charity drive.

However, the Des Moines Register decided that it should peer into his past social media activity for no discernible reason, and found a few tweets where King had quoted comedian Daniel Tosh and informed King that they were going to expose these tweets in their story about him. King got out ahead of the Register and made the announcement himself, causing Anheuser-Busch — who had promised to match King’s charitable giving — to cut ties with him.

Busch said it would keep its promise to give the money to charity, but would not work with King any longer.

Internet sleuths went into the Des Moines Register reporter’s own social media history and found nasty tweets of his own, including tweets about teaching kids to do drugs and prostitute themselves, as well as hatred toward police. The Des Moines Register said that it was “investigating” the reporter.

In the end, King came out looking like a hero and the media, once again, ended up with even more egg on its face.

A happy ending indeed.

Tulsi Gabbard Won’t Help Impeach Trump and Tells Dems That Kicking Trump out Isn’t Their Decision to Make

Westlake Legal Group f1c61773-57dd-4e5a-96c7-3045358f05e5-620x317 Tulsi Gabbard Won’t Help Impeach Trump and Tells Dems That Kicking Trump out Isn’t Their Decision to Make Ukraine tulsi gabbard transcript Politics Joe Biden impeachment Front Page Stories Featured Story elections donald trump democrats Allow Media Exception 2020

2020 Democratic candidate and Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard isn’t jumping onto the impeachment bandwagon like most Democrats are and believe that if President Donald Trump is going to be pushed out of office, it should be a result of the whishes of the people, not the politicians.

Appearing on Hill.TV, Gabbard shrugged at the transcript concerning a conversation Trump had with the Ukrainian president about the corruption charges surrounding Hunter Biden, Joe Biden’s son. According to Gabbard, if Democrats looked to the rest of America to gauge the way it feels about impeachment, Democrats wouldn’t go down that road.

“I think when you step outside of the bubble here in Washington and you get to where most folks in the country are — look, I’m not a lawyer, but I think most people reading through that transcript are not going to find that extremely compelling cause to throw out a president that won an election in 2016,” Gabbard said. “Instead, I think what most people will see is, hey, this is another move by Democrats to get rid of Donald Trump, further deepening the already hyper-partisan divides that we have in this country.”

Gabbard said that while she’s running to defeat Trump, who she says isn’t fit for office, kicking him out of office is not Democrat lawmaker’s decision to make.

“I just think it is so important for our country to be able to move forward, to bridge these divides, that it be the American people that make this decision,” said Gabbard

Gabbard seems to be one of the few Democrats who is actually paying attention to the polls. The American people have continuously rejected the idea of impeaching by a good majority since the question was brought up back when Trump was even first elected.

The latest poll from Quinnipiac showed the same, with 57 percent of Americans saying that impeaching Trump isn’t a good idea, vs only 37 saying it is.

(READ: Poll Shows The Majority Of Americans Still Don’t Want Trump Impeached)

What’s more, this impeachment process would require an investigation into the Ukraine phone call, which may end up hurting Biden more than Trump.

Gabbard seems to be one of the few Democrats who isn’t letting emotion or an advanced case of TDS drive her decision making. This will, no doubt, make her wildly unpopular within Democrat circles, as the majority of her colleagues are on board with this plan of action.

But we’ll see how it plays out with voters. Gabbard seems to have a knack for survival, and she likely owes it to her ability to appeal to moderates within the Democrat party who would otherwise have cold feet voting for radicals like Warren or Sanders. This appeal to let the people decide may show her as having character, and that may attract independents.

Time will tell, but one thing is almost guaranteed, Trump won’t be impeached and Gabbard will have an “I told you so” lined up for the future.

The Whistleblower’s Letter: No Smoking Guns, But A Clear Road Map

The whistleblower’s letter to the Senate Intelligence Committee is officially out, and there are some details in it that should indeed give Republicans pause.

There is no smoking gun in the report, but the complaint is very carefully worded and does give investigators enough to go on to pursue the original allegation that President Donald Trump used the power of his office to influence the 2020 presidential election.

The letter addressed to Richard Burr, the chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, and Adam Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, lays out the allegation and names several key figures in the Trump administration, including Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, Attorney General William Barr, and even Energy Secretary Rick Perry. Most importantly, however, the letter tells the committee exactly where investigators need to look to get the information they need.

It’s likely that, based on the letter, the next target has already been painted on Giuliani’s back. He has been all over the media with (at best) conflicting messages and is listed multiple times in the letter as Trump’s go-to guy for negotiations with Ukrainian leaders and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy. His unofficial status as ambassador to Ukraine (troublesome in and of itself) will make any communications he had with the nation fair game.

Likewise, we’ll also see investigators look into the separate electronic storage system the transcript of the call was kept in. That system is, according to the letter, normally used for “codeword-level” intelligence and not presidential phone calls. While it is possible that the Trump administration is incredibly concerned with just how much information leaks out, it does raise enough questions that we’ll have no choice but to try to answer.

There is more to the letter, which you can read at the link above. However, it stops short of being a nail in the coffin. Trump, however, will probably have a few more headaches stemming from it.

Read the Shakedown Letter Three Dem Senators Sent to the Ukrainian Prosecutor General

Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez becomes emotional as he speaks to reporters in front of the courthouse in Newark, N.J., Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017. The federal bribery trial of Menendez ended in a mistrial Thursday when the jury said it was hopelessly deadlocked on all charges against the New Jersey politician and a wealthy donor. (AP Photo/Seth Wenig;

After reading the transcript of President Trump’s July 25th telephone conversation with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, the repellent chair of the House Intelligence Committee Adam Schiff (D-CA) said, “This is a classic Mafia-like shakedown of a foreign leader.”

As the Democrats and the mainstream media spiral out of control over President Trump’s July 25th telephone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr, two exchanges between Democratic senators and Ukrainian officials involving actual quid pro quo have surfaced.

In May 2018, Democratic Sens. Bob Menendez (NJ), Dick Durbin (IL) and Patrick Leahy (VT) sent a letter to Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko pressing his office to cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation.

Two days before the senators wrote this letter, the New York Times reported that Ukraine had frozen investigations related to the Mueller probe.

The senators remind Lutsenko of everything the U.S. has done for his country and essentially tell him, it would be a shame if that were to end.

The letter begins with the senators expressing their “great concern about reports that your office has taken steps to impede cooperation with the investigation of United States Special Counsel Robert Mueller.”

It discusses the progress Ukraine has made with U.S. support and tells Lutsenko they are “disappointed that some in Kyiv appear to have cast aside these principles in order to avoid the ire of President Trump.”

The senators note that by freezing the investigations, Ukraine is “thereby eliminating scope for cooperation with the Mueller probe into related issues…If these reports are true, we strongly encourage you to reverse course and halt any efforts to impede cooperation with this important investigation. As strong advocates for a robust and close relationship with Ukraine, we believe that our cooperation should extend to such legal matters, regardless of politics.”

They end by demanding requesting information about Ukraine’s dealings with Trump administration officials.

Trump attorney Jay Sekulow spoke to Sean Hannity on Wednesday night and said, “That’s a quid pro quo. You do this. We’ll do that.”

Several days ago, the Hill’s John Solomon reported a little known story about Sen. Christopher Murphy’s (D-CT) bipartisan meeting with Zelensky in Kiev several weeks ago. I posted about this here.

Following the meeting, Murphy spoke to reporters. He said he pointed out to Zelensky that Ukraine currently enjoyed bipartisan support for its U.S. aid but wouldn’t it be a shame if something were to happen to it but if he chose to “investigate past corruption allegations involving Americans, including former Vice President Joe Biden’s family,” he runs the risk of losing Democratic support going forward.

Murphy reportedly told Zelensky that U.S. aid was Ukraine’s “most important asset” and if he were to comply with Trump’s request, it would be “disastrous for long-term U.S.-Ukraine relations.”

Solomon spoke to Murphy on Monday and he said, “I told Zelensky that he should not insert himself or his government into American politics. I cautioned him that complying with the demands of the President’s campaign representatives to investigate a political rival of the President would gravely damage the U.S.-Ukraine relationship. There are few things that Republicans and Democrats agree on in Washington these days, and support for Ukraine is one of them.”

After the meeting, Murphy had tweeted, “I told him it was best to ignore requests from Trump’s campaign operatives. He agreed.”

This is also a quid pro quo. ‘You want to keep that U.S. aid flowing, you better lay off the Biden family.’

The double standard is breathtaking.

I sure wish the Republicans in Congress would fight back a little harder. Maybe Corey Lewandowski can show them how it’s done.

There May Be Something In The Whistleblower Report

Westlake Legal Group Sad-Donald-Trump-Consoled-620x325 There May Be Something In The Whistleblower Report Ukraine Senate Intelligence Committee Senate republicans Joe Biden Impeachment of President Trump impeachment impeach Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats aid 2020

The transcript of the call between President Donald Trump and the Ukrainian leader was more or less a dud for the Democrats. However, long before it came out, they moved the goalposts and claimed instead that releasing the whistleblower report that started this whole drama was the only thing that would settle the matter.

“This whole drama,” of course, is the claim that Trump used military aid to Ukraine as the carrot on a stick to get them to re-open an investigation into former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter.

The transcript reveals there was no overt “quid pro quo” as the White House messaging puts it. But, the transcript didn’t entirely eliminate the possibility, and it is open to interpretation. The problem for Democrats is that you can’t justify impeachment on interpretation alone. You need a smoking gun, and that transcript didn’t provide it.

However… the whistleblower report is now in the hands of the Senate Intelligence Committee and based on public statements and some private concerns, it could possibly pave a path to impeachment.

The statement from Ben Sasse pours a bit of cold water on both sides. In it, he says that Democrats should not begin an inquiry until they have all the facts – indicating that there is likewise nothing overtly damning in the report. However, he also says Republicans should not automatically circle the wagons – indicating that there is cause for some concern.

Sasse isn’t the type of guy to just play both ends here. He’s not terribly difficult to read, and this isn’t just “Sasse is up for re-election and was endorsed by Trump” talk from his office. Now, one statement might not be enough to really convince anybody, but then you have to add in what is being discussed behind the scenes.

In conversations with a small handful of people, a few things start becoming clear:

  1. There are a handful – say, about half – the Republicans on the Senate Intelligence Committee who are taking this very, very seriously. Most are names you’ve seen in reports already – Sasse, Susan Collins, and Richard Burr among them. There are likewise some not on the committee who are nonetheless concerned and want to see some real closure here instead of partisan wagon-circling.
  2. Even more Republicans are on the fence and want to wait this out, under the theory that the House Democrats may overplay their hand – which, in total fairness, is very on-brand for House Democrats.
  3. The whistleblower complaint may not have a smoking gun, either, but the whistleblower apparently did a good job of setting the stage for impeachment proceedings, and there are requests for documents and evidence involved.

It’s simply impossible right now to say that Trump can or should be impeached, not that partisan actors haven’t already taken sides on the issue. Likewise, the media has come to its conclusions, though a lot of reporting is already suspect and those reporters have no one to blame but themselves for it.

No one, including those who have read the report, can definitively say one way or the other that Trump is guilty of something impeachable. The conditions, by all publicly available information, do not appear to have been met. However, that doesn’t mean Trump is free and clear, either. In all likelihood, the Democrats have found an issue to keep the investigations into Trump going, considering the dud that Mueller’s report has turned out to be.

How Trump and his administration handle it, and how the Senate decides to move forward on it, will be the real test.

MSNBC’s Katy Tur Tells a Flat Out Lie to Her Audience–Not That They Can Tell the Difference

This is why more people would trust a crack ho’ with their car keys and credit cards than trust the media to tell the truth. This is MSNBC’s Katy Tur who rose to fame by sleeping with Keith Olbermann (please…no mental images)

What there is proof of and what there is a paper trail of, because the White House just released it, is a summary or notes of a conversation the President had with the man that was sitting to his right, the president of Ukraine. Where he said, “will you do me and investigate Vice President Biden’s son? Will you do me a favor and get involved in the 2020 election, Vice President Biden is my chief political opponent. At that point he was leading Donald Trump quite a lot in the polls…

Let’s take a look at what was actually said:

The President: Good because I heard you had a prosecutor who was very good and he was shut down and that’s really unfair. A lot of people are talking about that, the way they shut your very good prosecutor down and you had some very bad people involved. Mr. Giuliani is a highly respected man. He was the mayor bf New York City, a great mayor, and I would like him to call you. I will ask him to call yotu along with the Attorney General. Rudy very much knows what’s happening and he is a very capable guy. If you could speak to him that would be great. The former ambassador from the United States, the woman, was bad news and the people she was dealing with in the Ukraine were bad news so I just want to_let you know that. The other thing, There’s a lot of talk about Biden’s son, that Biden stopped the prosecution and a lot of people want to find out about that so whatever you can do with the Attorney General would be great. Biden went around bragging that he stopped the prosecution so if you ·can look into it … It sounds horrible to me.

So no, Trump does not ask for Zelensky to investigate Biden’s son. Rather clearly and unambiguously he asks for Zelensky to assist Attorney General Bill Barr’s ongoing inquiry. We don’t know what that is but Joe Biden using his office to stop the investigation of his son’s rather blatant grifting.

Let me take a brief side trip. I was on this site with Erick for a decade. And as much as I respect Erick, this analysis is simply nuts:

Of course it makes a difference when you carry out an action that is of direct benefit to you. Did it not, we would not have conflict of interest laws. Beyond that Biden was not some random flunkey, he was the vice president of the United States and Obama had publicly anointed Biden as his “point person” on Ukraine policy. Biden clearly had plenary authority it that area and was not merely passing on orders. Even were he just passing on orders he had a criminal level of conflict of interest because his son was a subject of an investigation by the guy he had fired. In fact, under federal law the creation of an appearance of conflict of interest is an actual conflict of interest. This is not rocket science. This is very basic stuff from annual mandatory training.

Back to Katy Tur. Not only did Trump not ask Zelensky to investigate Biden, Tur says Trump asked Zelensky to get involved in the 2020 election. That is simply false. And even if you are making a rather bizarre extrapolation of events (no one at MSNBC ever showed the slightest qualms about Hillary Clinton’s campaign employing an asset of British intelligence to pay Russian intelligence sources to create an FBI investigation of her political opponent), stating that sick little fantasy as though it is a quote is a level of dishonesty that we expect only of Brian Stelter and Chris Cillizza.

The best responses to this are in reply to Jason Howerton’s plea: “@KatyTurNBC, you’re better than this.”

They are right. She’s not better than that. In fact, she’s worse than that.

House Republican Explains: The ‘Democrats Don’t Really Want to Impeach the President’ (Video)

The Democrats have appeared to be jonesin’ for impeachment since Trump got sworn in.

Just look here.

Poor Al Green’s been about to explode over it (here).

And it looks to be finally happenin’.

Over a phone call.

Why now?

Republican Texas Rep. Lance Gooden thinks he knows, and he explained it to CNN’s Chris “I’m not afraid-O” Cuomo:

“Democrats don’t really want to impeach the President. They want to be under an impeachment process throughout the next election cycle. Democrats know that if they vote for impeachment, even if they are able to muster up the votes…when that goes to the Senate, the Senate will acquit the President. They know that.”

That isn’t hard to believe.

And it’s a breeze to imagine the whole maneuver is gonna spectacularly backfire: As I covered previously, Meghan McCain pointed out Wednesday that further discussions of Ukraine will drag Joe Biden through the mud, which will give Elizabeth Warren a boost (here). Furthermore, a recent poll shows Elizabeth 2 points ahead of Joe (here).

And if Elizabeth faces Trump on that ultimate stage, Donald J. will open his mouth and swallow her whole. In my opinion, she has no chance against that guy one-on-one.

To be clear, that’s not a put-down. I’m just saying — she ain’t a Terminator. Neither was my great grandmother, but I liked her.

And Lance likes the idea of not going down the path of impeachment, which — in his view — is a distraction from taking care of business:

“Why waste all this time and these resources, why not get to work for the American people. All I heard from Democrats when we took office — I’m a freshman, all my freshman colleagues across the aisle said, ‘Lance, I want to work with you, we want to get to work for the American people, we want to put all this partisanship behind.’ But now we’re talking about impeaching the President. It’s outrageous.”

Lance also pointed out that the House got stocked with moderate Dems before the midterms, which further highlights the boneheadedness of a drive to the impeachment hoop.

The Daily Wire reports:

The Texas congressman explained that more than 30 Democrats in the House currently represent congressional districts that voted for Trump during the 2016 election cycle. The Democratic Party largely gained its House majority after a wave of the party’s moderate candidates were elected in those purple districts during the 2018 election cycle.

With the 2020 election on the horizon, many of the more moderate House Democrats have feared that voters’ distaste for impeachment could put the House majority back in the hands of the GOP. Accordingly, the party still does not seem to have the required 218 votes needed to impeach the president.

According to Lance, there’s a whole lot of stalling on the part of Democrats as 2020 looms:

“Some of these bills, most all of them actually, are bills that Republicans wanted to work with Democrats on, but Democrats know that if we work across the aisle and actually have a bill that we’re all in unison on, then the president might actually sign it. God forbid the president signs something that the House passes because then we’d have to give the president a victory. Democrats won’t go for that.”

For example:

“The U.S.-Mexico-Canada trade agreement, they won’t even take it up because they know it’s bipartisan, because they know the votes are there and if it passes the House, it sails through the Senate and the president signs it. The president can declare victory and that’s something the Democrats won’t allow.”

Last night, the leftwing media was out if force playing the gotcha game. How it worked was a reporter would present a Republican politician with a quote that allegedly came from President Trump. The GOP politician would be asked if they agree with it. It was the old game of “have you stopped beating your wife” because the target had no way of knowing if the quote was accurate and, unfortunately, many people assumed they were dealing with an honorable individual. (ProTip: never assume the average political reporter has any more substantive sense of honor and decency than your typical debauched Arabian whoremonger.) But so many people fall for it that they don’t know how to handle it when they meet up with someone who is wise to the game.

This latter event was the case when a Huffington Post reporter named Arthur Delaney tried to use deception to get a quote he could use either to ride the “Republicans are fleeing from Trump” narrative or to file in the “Republicans will do anything to cover for Trump” narrative. Unfortunately for him, his target was Missouri Senator Josh Hawley.

This is how Delaney describes it:

The problem with Delaney’s statement is that is composed of a couple of lies. The main one is that at no point in the White House statement does Trump imply that he wants Joe Biden investigated. Delaney simply makes that up out of whole cloth and because we have to assume he’s not so stupid that he can’t read, our only explanation left is that he’s lying. The other issue, of course, is that Senator Hawley’s timeline doesn’t show him even acknowledging Delaney’s presence on Twitter before what happened next. That is either a lie or the garden variety megalomania you find in failed reporters.

And then Hawley unloaded on Delaney by revealing what was really said.

This is the transcript for your convenience:

This is actually stunning behavior by Delaney. He not only lied to Hawley to elicit a response, he then compounded the lie on Twitter to get the story Hawley refused to give him.

There’s nothing like a giant, ridiculous fight to bring people together.

Actually, I believe that can be true sometimes, in relationships.

I don’t reckon it works that way in Washington.

But Sunny Hostin does — she said as much Wednesday.

The View segment began with discussion about the released transcript of Trump’s conversation with Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

Hoopla over that long-distance lighting rod’s led to Nancy Pelosi announcing the House will make a move for impeachment.

Aye aye aye, here we go.

As I covered Tuesday, Meghan McCain thinks it’s a very bad strategy for Democrats.

She reiterated:

“The political implications are staggering. In swing states impeachment polls horribly. There’s voters — Democrats, Republicans and independents — that don’t want to go through this process. I said this clumsily before. If Democrats take this aim, you can’t miss.”

Interestingly — and, in my opinion, impressively — Meghan pointed out that keeping the story at the forefront is actually pushing Biden back and giving Elizabeth a shot for the nomination.

She’s got a very good point — I wrote previously that Warren’s two points ahead of Joe in a recent poll; and, in my estimation, there’s no way she can hang with Trump in a debate. He’ll grate her like cheese.

Meghan:

“Do you know who is having the best day today?. Elizabeth Warren. Joe Biden is involved in this. His son is involved with this. President Trump is involved. Her poll numbers are rising. She’s first in New Hampshire. This is the best political day for her.”

Co-host Joy expressed Watergate-inspired hope:

“During Watergate, the country was not on board for impeachment, either. It took a long time before…I recall watching. Every day it was on television. It was right there for everybody to see all the crimes that Nixon committed.”

Behar believes middle America just doesn’t understand how terrible Trump is:

“I don’t think people are watching this the way news people do. The average person in Kansas and Iowa they’re busy with their lives. Watch it every day. See what he did. Then come to your conclusion about whether he’s destroying the country.”

But, as Meghan noted, a whole lot of people don’t want impeachment to start with:

“69% is a staggering number.”

So far, it only seems to have bostered Trump, as pointed out by Abby Huntsman:

“Also, to that point, when Nancy came out yesterday, within 15 minutes $250,000 was given to the Trump campaign.”

“It was $1 million all day yesterday,” Meghan added.

Back to Abby:

“If you think this country is divided right now, if you think politically we’re in a bad place, wait until we get to impeachment.”

But then, a whole different kind of perspective landed.

Like a Vietnam chopper, it descended…

Dust blew. The rails neared the ground.

Get ready for touchdown.

Here it goes…deploy the completely inexplicable.

Say it, Sunny:

“I think impeachment hearings will unify the country.”

I can think of only one appropriate response:
