In Completely Unexpected Turn, That Story About Trump Using the Military to Prop Up His Resort Was Fake News

This just keeps happening. It’s almost as if the news media are purposely slanting stories to fit their narrative, unconcerned with seeking facts that don’t confirm their biases?

Nah, couldn’t be.

Over the past week, a “bombshell” story broke involving Trump’s Scottish Turnberry resort, which is currently in financial trouble, and the supposed idea that the US Air Force was having their planes land at an airport close by to help keep it above water. The idea was that without airport access close by, the golf club would further fail and fold up. This was exacerbated by the revelation that a C-17 crew stayed the night at the resort using earlier in the year.

Byron York tackles the details over at the Washington Examiner.

The news was immediately picked up by other media outlets. MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow opened her program Friday with a monologue on the story, followed by an interview with Bertrand. “Now miraculously, now that Donald Trump is president, American military cargo planes have started refueling at that airport,” Maddow said, noting the military “spent $17 million on fuel [there] since October 2017,” even though “it would be cheaper to the military if that fuel had been purchased at a U.S. military base.”

“They’re stopping at the airport that Trump needs to prop up to keep his Scottish golf resort going,” Maddow declared.

As per usual, this all turned out to be mostly fake news, lacking critical context and any semblance of fairness in the reporting.

The only problem with the Politico story was that it was not the whole story. In fact, it omitted so much important information that it hardly qualified as a story at all.

The piece focused on a single Air Force mission, a C-17 military transport flight this year from the United States to Kuwait and back. Bertrand and Bender reported that the plane stopped at Prestwick to refuel, and also that the crew spent the night at Turnberry. According to the article, crew members said they had never stopped at Prestwick before in dozens of trips back and forth between the U.S. and Middle East.

The article made several references to a June 21 document request sent by House Oversight Committee Democrats to the secretary of defense. The Pentagon has not yet responded to the House, Politico said.

But committee Democrats left a number of things out of their letter. Some are available in public documents on the internet, while some came from the Air Force in response to the story.

The first thing to note is that a public database shows the Air Force signed a contract for refuelings at Prestwick in 2016, before the Trump administration entered office. In addition, Air Force planes made many stops at Prestwick before President Trump. According to information provided by Air Force officials, planes stopped at Prestwick 95 times in 2015, 145 times in 2016, 180 times in 2017, 257 times in 2018, and 259 times through August 2019.

Wait, you mean Democrats Representatives and media members bandying this story about were doing so without telling us all the facts? Shocking if true.

The stopover for the true at Prestwick not only wasn’t unusual or “odd,” it was part of a contract that predated Trump and had begun escalating operations before he was even elected. This was done to secure lower fuel prices.

As to the hotel stay, the crew used their own per diem money and went through the proper USAF travel offices to secure the lowest cost room for the night. That just happened to be Turnberry. On the way back, another hotel was cheaper, so they stayed there, showing there was no intention to specifically stay at Trump’s property.

Because the USAF is always worried about appearances these days though, they have opened an investigation into this. It will go nowhere and lead to nothing, but it’s a talking point for the media I supposed.

In the meantime, the Democrat’s “investigation” in the House over this can be added to the long list of pointless investigations they’ve been conducting, desperately searching for any impeachable offense. They’ll come up short again.

Remembering the Dogs of 9/11

The terrorist attacks on 9/11 were a great evil that produced many heroes that did a lot of good, but not every hero walked into danger on two legs. Many ran in on four.

They say we don’t deserve dogs and they truly proved this on 9/11. Without the help of our K-9 companions, many people would never have been found and rescued, and some even sacrificed their lives in their attempts to save others. ‘

A Twitter user going by “Clays & Birds” created a Twitter thread remembering some of the dogs that took part in the rescue efforts during that day, and while this day is remembered as one of atrocity, remembering the bravery of our furry heroes is a bright light in that dark memory.

What’s important to remember is that around 300 dogs played a part in rescue efforts on 9/11, and only a third of them were actually trained for situations like this. That’s around 200 dogs that didn’t have the proper training but did what they could anyway.

As Clays & Birds points out, these dogs and their efforts rewrote the book on dog search and rescue.

Here are some of the dogs, and the parts they played. You’ll notice that dogs played multiple roles, be it search and rescue or even being there for therapy reasons.

Man has created a multitude of things during our existence, but it could be well argued that humanity’s greatest creation has always been the domesticated dog. They play with us when we’re feeling playful, they cuddle with us when we’re feeling lonely, they defend us when danger comes for us, and they run by our side headlong into danger whenever the world needs heroes.

Thank God for dogs. Man’s best friend indeed.

Buzz: IG Report Is ‘Being Circulated Inside And Outside’ Of The DOJ And Finds That FISA Warrants Were Illegally Obtained

Westlake Legal Group fisa-court-620x349 Buzz: IG Report Is ‘Being Circulated Inside And Outside’ Of The DOJ And Finds That FISA Warrants Were Illegally Obtained Special Counsel President Trump Mueller Investigation Kathleen Kavalec John Solomon Joe diGenova Jerry Nadler james comey Front Page Stories Featured Story FBI and DOJ Corruption donald trump democrats collusion Christopher Steele Carter Page Allow Media Exception Abuse of Power 2020

The long awaited DOJ Inspector General’s report on the FBI’s applications to the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court is now finished and is currently undergoing the declassification process. It is expected to be released sometime this month. Unlike the IG’s recent report on James Comey’s interactions with President Trump which accused Comey of breaking FBI rules and policies, this report will focus on violations of the law. It will answer the question we all want answered. Did James Comey’s FBI acquire warrants to spy on Trump campaign advisor Carter Page illegally? If the recent buzz is correct, the report concludes that all four warrants were obtained illegally.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) appeared on “Hannity” on Monday night and said he expects the report to find that the FBI actions were illegal. Jordan is the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee and a member of the House Judiciary Committee. Fox News‘ Gregg Jarrett said he “absolutely” agreed.

On Monday, Washington lawyer and former U.S. Attorney Joe DiGenova told Washington’s WMAL that, “I can report categorically that the inspector general has found that all four FISA warrants were illegal. They were based on false information supplied to the FISA Court. And Michael Horowitz has concluded that all four FISA warrants were illegal.”

DiGenova participated in the Washington Examiner‘s Examining Politics podcast just after the IG’s report on Comey’s conduct was released. He told the panel the IG’s report on FISA abuse is “being circulated inside and outside of the department for comment by interested parties.”

Perhaps that’s why Jerry Nadler (D-NY), chairman of the House Judiciary Committee has doubled down on his efforts to impeach Trump this week. It sounds as if a large number of Washington insiders are privy to the results of the report.

If Nadler is aware of how damning its findings are for Democrats, he may want to act before it is released. Ahead of the Mueller report, which he knew would be a disappointment for the left, he and other Democratic committee leaders launched a blitz of investigations into the President.

The IG’s report was originally expected to be released in June. There was a reason for the delay. At the last minute, several “reluctant witnesses” agreed to be questioned by the IG’s team, one of whom was Kathleen Kavalec, who was the State Department’s Deputy Assistant Secretary of State at the time. Another witness was Christopher Steele, the author of the dossier.

Back in May, the Hill’s John Solomon broke the bombshell story of an October 2016 meeting between Kavalec and Steele. During this exchange, Steele told Kavalec that his client was “keen” to break the story before election day. (I wrote about this here. Solomon’s articles can be viewed here and here.)

Ten days before the FBI applied to the FISA Court for their first warrant to spy on Trump advisor Carter Page, Kavalec made two important discoveries. First, she realized that some of the material in the dossier Steele had prepared for the FBI and the Clinton campaign was inaccurate. After a brief meeting with Steele, Kavalec was instantly aware of Steele’s agenda and she was alarmed. She prepared a memo from her meeting notes and sent it to the appropriate officials at the FBI. The memo said that Steele had told her, “Payments to those recruited are made out of the Russian Consulate in Miami.” She then wrote, “It is important to note that there is no Russian consulate in Miami.” Kavalec also said that Steele admitted his work was political.

Also in May, Citizens United had obtained copies of Kavalec’s memo, through a FOIA request. The documents were immediately forwarded to the DOJ Inspector General Michael Horowitz who had not been aware that they even existed.

Citizens United learned that the memo and related documents had been retroactively labeled as classified by the FBI. They were heavily redacted. Kavalec sent the email to the FBI on October 13, 2016.

At the time, DiGenova had appeared on “Lou Dobbs Tonight” and made an extraordinary claim. He said the DOJ Inspector General, Michael Horowitz, has “concluded that the final three FISA extensions were illegally obtained.”

He added, “The only question now is whether or not the first FISA warrant was illegally obtained…As a result of those disclosures from John Solomon today, which he was unaware of, the Bureau hid those memos from Horowitz. As a result of that, they are doing some additional work on the first FISA. It may be that all four FISAs will have been obtained illegally.”

Let’s hope DiGenova is right.

Today We Say Never Forget But Let’s Be Brutally Honest, We Are Forgetting.

Today the United States of America once again pauses to take a moment to remember the events that reshaped the world on September-11-2001. Hard to believe that it has been 18 years since the purely evil events of that day unfolded. Yet here we are at another anniversary as time marches on.

Most of us will take to facebook and recount “where we were” when the planes struck and what an awful, tragic day that was. We will accompany those posts with memes that say “Never Forget” and then move on to September 12th and live our lives until next year. Which is of course what those who sacrificed their lives and those who were murdered would have wanted for us.

Let me very blunt here though.

We are forgetting and it is showing.

Here are some examples why…

On June 11th 2019 Luis Alvarez went before Congress to talk about the 9-11 victim compensation fund. Alvarez, a retired New York City Police Detective, and 9/11 first responder was there to plead for reauthorization of funds before a House committee.

Here is part of what he said according to Time

A little more than two weeks before his death, Alvarez – who was visibly very ill and thin – traveled to Congress and testified before the House Judiciary subcommittee, urging legislators to extend the fund.

“You made me come down here the day before my 69th round of chemo and I’m going to make sure that you never forget to take care of the 9/11 first responders,” he said. Comedian Jon Stewart testified shortly afterward, chastising Congress for taking years to make the program permanent and condemning the legislators who failed to show up to watch the first responders’ testimony.

At Alvarez’s chemotherapy appointment the following day, medical providers determined that his liver was failing and causing disorientation. Alvarez decided to enter hospice care shortly afterwards.

This hero died 18 days later.

You might have heard about this man and his colleagues going to Congress to ask for this without assistance from someone famous.

You DID hear about it because Jon Stewart had a meltdown, verbally undressing those elected officials for once again dropping the ball of simply keeping a promise. I know some reading this might have thought that Stewart did a bit of an acting job that day, well good for him if he was. He was at least ACTING as he cared on a day that was not Sept-11.

How does a nation that is saying “Never Forget” once a year allow our elected officials to forget those that responded first to these tragedies? They literally saved hundreds if not thousands of lives while giving up their own either on that day or a little bit each moment since, like Detective Alvarez.

“Never Forget” I guess does not apply to the still broken immigration system that this country has 18 years later. This has nothing to do with a wall but how we make sure that those that come here legally, stay here legally.  Five of the 19 hijackers were here illegally when the planes flew into World Trade Center One and Two, The Pentagon and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

According to National Review

Did you remember that five of the 9/11 hijackers — Mohamed Atta, Marwan al-Shehhi, Hani Hanjour, Nawaf al-Hazmi, and Satam al-Suqami — carried out their killer plot after overstaying their visas, evading detection, and avoiding deportation?

Did you remember the other radical Muslim members of the Terrorist Visa Overstayers Club? They include 1997 New York subway bomber Lafi Khalil; 1993 World Trade Center bombers Mahmud Abouhalima, Mohammed Salameh, and Eyad Ismoil; 1993 New York landmark bombing plot conspirator Fadil Abdelgani; convicted Times Square bomb plotter Faisal Shahzad; and U.S. Capitol bomb plotter Amine El Khalifi, whose visa expired in 1999 and who escaped Homeland Security’s notice for 12 years before he was arrested in 2012 — just blocks from the Capitol building donning what he thought was a suicide-bomb vest.

Maybe we forgot.

How about the war in Afghanistan?

The reasons for going into that war were justified. The Taliban were harboring those that trained and plotted the attacks on America that fateful day. President Bush 43 was able to explain that clearly when the United States military invaded in early October 2001.

Now, 18 years later can anyone explain what the mission is and how we “win” this longest battle America has ever been in?

We have paid a heavy price according to Washington Post

The conflict had left 2,400 U.S. service members dead and more than 20,000 wounded; more than 145,000 people in all, including Afghan military, police and civilians, have died, according to a 2018 report from Brown University’s Costs of War Project; America has spent $737 billion on the war.

This doesn’t include the calculation of dealing with the long term effects of those who served in this conflict and the one in Iraq. They need our support just as much as those who stormed the towers on that clear Sept morning almost two decades ago.

Next year we will have High School seniors graduating in the United States of America that were born AFTER the attacks of 9-11. What that means is that the horrible events of that day will only be a recorded event for them much like Pearl Harbor or the Kennedy assassination was for us. Simply saying “Never Forget” will simply be an empty slogan for them unless those of us who watched those terrible events unfold that day make it mean something to them.

We need to be honest with them about what happened on that day and what has happened since.

We need to teach them that anyone with a badge or uniform is not automatically the enemy but people that deserve our respect.

We need to reinforce that there is evil in the world and ignoring it and hoping it goes away will only encourage it to thrive.

We need to teach them that “Never Forget” is not something we should not only do once a year but consistently throughout the year.  We should teach them this by doing it ourselves and showing by example not just by a Facebook post stating where you were for the 1000th time.

We need to ensure that those who rushed into the buildings and the regular folks who were thrust into horrifying circumstances and sacrificed themselves to save others are never forgotten.

Truly, Never Forgotten!!!!

Todd Beamer who was a passenger on United Flight 93 that crashed into Pennsylvania on this day along with some of the other passengers on his flight decided to storm the cockpit and stop their plane from being used as a weapon. Beamers last words as he was talking to a sky phone operator was “Let’s Roll” and he and others saved many lives while giving up their own.

If we do not fight the apathy that is creeping into the remembrances of what this day means during the other 364 days of the year, this country will turn Beamers last words into “Let’s Not” or “Who Cares” and that means, we will ultimately have forgotten.

So let us ban together to “Never Forget” so that “Never Happens”.

The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, based in San Francisco has 29 seats. Seven of those are filled by Trump appointees bringing the total of GOP appointed judges to thirteen. It appears that the Trump administration’s efforts to appoint conservative judges is starting to have some effect.

On Monday, District Court Judge Jon Tigar (Northern District of California), an Obama appointee, reinstated a nationwide ban on Trump’s Third Country Asylum rule. This policy prevents migrants from seeking asylum at the U.S. border unless they have already done so in Mexico or another third country. Prior to this, the Ninth Circuit had ruled that the preliminary injunction against this policy was only enforceable within the Ninth Circuit. My colleague Bonchie posted about this on Tuesday here.

On Tuesday, however, the Ninth Circuit issued an administrative order reversing Tigar’s nationwide ban. Yesterday’s order limits the ban to states over which the Ninth Circuit has jurisdiction. This includes California, Arizona, Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, Idaho, Guam, Oregon, and Washington.

Fox News reports:

Tigar first blocked the asylum policy in July after a lawsuit by groups that help asylum seekers. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals then partially limited the impact of Tigar’s injunction.

That meant the policy was blocked in the border states of California and Arizona but not in New Mexico and Texas.

In his ruling Monday, Tigar circled back, and stressed a “need to maintain uniform immigration policy” and found that nonprofit organizations such as Al Otro Lado don’t know where asylum seekers who enter the U.S. will end up living and making their case to remain in the country.

Tiger, citing new evidence, on Monday issued a second nationwide injunction.

“The court recognized there is grave danger facing asylum-seekers along the entire stretch of the southern border,” Lee Gelernt, an attorney for the American Civil Liberties Union, said in a statement.

Tiger’s activism begs the question, should a highly partisan district court judge, an unelected federal official, have the power to set national immigration policy? Throughout Trump’s presidency, liberal judges have repeatedly acted to reverse his administration’s policies. These judges have more power than most elected officials do. This situation interferes with the President’s ability to govern and must be addressed by the Supreme Court.

Much to the left’s dismay, Trump’s policies are making a measurable difference. Despite the best efforts of the bleeding hearts, border apprehensions in August were down 56% to 64,000 from their peak in May when they reached 144,000.

Are you listening Justice Roberts?

At a Monday night rally in North Carolina, Donald Trump got in a jab at Barak Obama.

Trump’s comment was mystifying, given his position in the political cosmos: According to many of his critics, he’s a madman plotting — with or without Russia — world domination; at the same time, many on the Left seem to believe it’s his responsibility to take care of the globe. Nationalism, in case you’ve not heard, is now a bad thing.

But Trump knows his boundaries:

“You finally have a president who understands that I’m not supposed to be president of the world; I’m supposed to be President of the United States of America. Obama is more popular in Germany than Trump. He’s got to be. I’m making people pay their bills. The day I’m more popular than him, I’m not doing my job. They like him more in Europe than they like Trump. I think they should.”

Wow.

That is, in my view, a substantial point.

Trump continued, referencing the fact that the Fayetteville event had been moved to the Crown Expo Center in order to keep a bigger-than-expected crowd out of the rain:

“I was even willing to stand out in the rain and get my hair soaking wet but they said it was a little bit out of your district. But I was willing to do it. I would’ve taken it. I would’ve been very proud to have done it. It would have shown it’s my real hair at least. It’s my hair. May not be great, but I will say it’s better than most of my friends’ who are the same age. A lot better.”

Wow again — a bit of self-deprecation. That’s a Trump rarity and — by me, at least — welcome.

The Donald went on with his hint-of-meekness message:

“You must never forget that the 2020 election is about one thing: You.

“It’s true. It’s not about me. It’s about you. It’s about your family, your future, and the fate of your country. … A vote for any Democrat in 2020 and a vote for any Democrat tomorrow in North Carolina is a vote for the rise of radical socialism and the destruction of the American dream. We are entering this campaign with the best record, the best results, the best agenda.”

Socialism sure has caught on among the Left — that and a few other ideas, as the Commander-in-Chief pointed out:

“Democrats are now the party of high taxes, high crime, open borders, late-term abortion, and socialism. They are socialists. The Republican party is the party of the American worker, the American family, and the American dream. … Democrats even want to give free health care to illegal immigrants… And as long as I’m your president, I will never, ever let Democrats take away your health care and give it away free to people that have entered our country illegally. We can’t do that. It’s a tremendous incentive to come in. Democrats also want to bring in unlimited numbers of foreign refugees from overseas, all at the expense of supporting their own communities. Republicans, no matter what you do, where you are, we want people to obey our laws.”

It is perhaps a bit surprising that some currently hoping to lead America don’t appear to be particularly promoting — compared to election cycles of the past — America.

There’s talk of Mexico (hereherehere, and here), people shouldering a greater tax burden (here), fighting white-hooded thunderstorms (here), and — of course — men spreading open their legs and pushing out goo-covered infants (good Lord here).

As for stuff that actually has to do with Americans and their prosperousness, Trump wants people to know he’s got ’em covered:

“We want people that are going to help our country. The Democratic Party has never been farther outside of the mainstream.”

Sure seems that way. But I’d believe it a little more coming from the President of the World. Drats.

If you’d like to watch the rally, I’ve included it in its entirety above.

The people aren’t into the idea of impeaching President Donald Trump and that was made painfully clear after an impeachment rally was embarrassingly short on attendees in Washington D.C.

According to Breitbart, the protest was to take place on the Capitol lawn, but come time for the event to occur, the place was devoid of demonstrators:

The eventbrite.com protest notice said it would take place at noon on Monday on the “Capitol lawn below the steps,” but no one showed up for that protest. This protest notice said that “events are registered with Indivisible,” one of the groups listed as a sponsor for the 11:00 a.m. protest.

Breitbart News reached out to the contact for the Indivisible event but did not receive a response. Breitbart News also reached out to MoveOn to ask if the protest was canceled and, if not, were organizers disappointed that no one showed up?

Monday was the first day Congress was back in session following its August break, and both advertised protests said the purpose was to demand lawmakers start an impeachment inquiry against the president.

This wasn’t an event put on by some random person on Facebook either. This was an event put on by big-time leftist groups from MoveOn to Democrats.com.

Polls consistently show that the American people have little interest in impeachment Trump, and haven’t seen any reason for it since the Russia investigation came up with nothing. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has been trying to shoo Democrats away from the idea of it, and only Rep. Tulsi Gabbard seems to be the only 2020 candidate that understands that pushing for impeachment is too divisive.

It’s an unpopular thing to push for that only radicals truly believe is the way forward. A July poll showing only 11 percent of people believe impeachment will happen is reflective of that.

Still, the left can dream. As laughable as this is, the part that should make you angry is the fact that the mainstream media won’t report on this in order to avoid giving any indication that impeachment just isn’t realistic. The very word seems to attract eyes, and they’re in a time when they need all the eyes they can get thanks to their free-falling ratings.

It’s par for the course, though. These kinds of things happen all the time, and you never hear about them.

The first time I learned that protests often go unattended was when I lived in Denver, Colorado. At the time there was a massive push for gun control by the Democrats in that state, and an anti-gun group planned to have a rally below the Capitol steps. I went down to see what I could when the rally was supposed to happen and found one lone girl standing there with a sign and three or four squirrels.

My laugh was probably impolite.

“Airplanes Took Aim”: NY Times Shamefully Goes the Ilhan Omar Route in Describing How 9/11 Happened

Westlake Legal Group 911-tower2-hit “Airplanes Took Aim”: NY Times Shamefully Goes the Ilhan Omar Route in Describing How 9/11 Happened Terrorism Social Media Politics NY Times North Carolina New York Times New York never forget Media journalism Ilhan Omar Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post democrats Culture AOC Allow Media Exception Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez 9/11

Five months ago, Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said “some people did something” in a CAIR speech she gave where she talked about the 9/11/01 terrorist attacks. The “some people” she was referring to, of course, were the radical Islamic terrorists who “did something” by committing the attacks that killed nearly 3,000 innocent people.

Outrage was swift and came from many corners including from President Trump. The New York Post published a brutal front page reminder in response to Omar’s reprehensible comments:

Unfortunately, on the 18th anniversary of 9/11 it seems that the New York Times took a page from Omar’s book in characterizing the horrific events of that awful day.

In a now-deleted tweet they posted early this morning, the paper wrote that “airplanes took aim” at the World Trade Center, rather than noting terrorists “took aim.” They also noted the WTC was where “more than 2,000 people died” rather than accurately reporting it was where “nearly 3,000 people” were killed. Here are a couple of screen captures of the original tweet:

Not only was that how the tweet was written, but the actual story originally contained the same language:

Shorter New York Times: Some airplanes did something.

After a wave of criticism from Twitter users, the story was changed, but it still fell short by saying “people died” instead of “people were killed” (bolded emphasis added):

Once more, families gathered at ground zero, where nearly 3,000 people died on that bright September morning. Once more, there was an outpouring of grief. Once more, there was the sound of a bell tolling in mourning. And there was the rhythm of names being recited.

Eighteen years have passed since terrorists commandeered airplanes to take aim at the World Trade Center and bring them down.

The paper then posted an updated version of the tweet noting the correct number of people killed in the terror attacks (rather than the airplane attacks):

There is just no excuse, zero, zilch, nada, for the way this story was first presented. How many editors did it pass through before it went to publication? And for it to be done by the so-called “newspaper of record”, which is headquartered in the city that faced the brunt of the 9/11 attacks, it’s just flat out unacceptable.

I would be shocked if the paper doesn’t see a rise in people unsubscribing from it after today. Between the anti-Semitism, the TDS that clouds the judgment of their mainstream media reporters, and now this, the paper is literally not worth the paper it is written on anymore.

India Reminds: What DC Has Long Pretended Is ‘Free Trade’ – Is Not Free Trade

Westlake Legal Group world-fair-trade-day-logo India Reminds: What DC Has Long Pretended Is ‘Free Trade’ – Is Not Free Trade trade import limits trade Taxes Tariffs sugar subsidies Politics Policy News Judicial India Front Page Stories Front Page Free trade fair trade Business & Economy Brazil

Washington, D.C.’s very swampy denizens have spent the last half-century-plus perpetrating a panoply of frauds against We the People.

Perhaps the most Gaslight-y of them all – has been DCs fake free trade.

We the People have watched DCs fake free trade – dispatch millions of our jobs and trillions of our dollars to everywhere else on the planet.  And our nation – has been hollowed out and caved in.

And when We the People complained about the self-destruction – we were yelled at as nationalist Luddites who are anti-commerce.

Yes.  Our opposition to the guys with guns and masks taking our wallets and watches – is “anti-commerce.”

What they do not understand is – commerce occurs between peoples.  Trade Policy – occurs between governments.  And every government – seeks to advantage its people over all others.

Well, except our government, of course.  Because “Free Markets!!!” – or something.

So our half-century-plus of allowing every country on the planet to favor their peoples over ours – has gutted our people and our nation.

The planet tariffs and limits the import of our stuff – which hurts our stuff.  And the planet subsidizes their stuff – thereby giving their stuff an anti-market advantage over our stuff.

We do very little of any of this.  We do absolutely nothing about their doing it.

Fifty-plus years later – we are in the heinous mess we’re in.

In writing about trade with utterly corrupt Communist China, Nicholas Phillips wisely notes:

“(Fake) free trade with China means allowing its distortions into our market.

“Refusing to allow our government to ‘pick winners’ by rejecting industrial-policy support to key sectors means that Beijing will pick winners for us.”

If we don’t prioritize things for ourselves – the planet will prioritize things for themselves.  And much more often than not – it will be to our great disadvantage.

“Key sectors” you say?  I would say food growth and production is a key sector.

Before you can put on your cheap Bangladeshi PJs and watch your cheap Chinese TV – you gotta eat.

And fake free trade has been devastating our farmers, ranchers and food producers.

By not choosing to defend our producers – we have subjected them to the rest of the planet defending theirs.

To wit:

Sugar: Concern Increases Over Subsidies in India:

“Édgar Herrera, executive director of the (Costa Rica) Industrial Agricultural League of Sugarcane (Laica), explained…:

“‘These (sugar) subsidies are greater than those allowed by the World Trade Organization, in the order of $10 billion annually.  At the same time, it causes an artificial increase in sugar production, which surpasses India’s internal consumption.’…

“‘There is an oversupply, which has caused sugar prices to collapse below production costs. And this causes severe damage to countries that do not have these subsidies, as in the case of Costa Rica.’”

Again: $10 billion per year.  JUST in sugar subsidies.  JUST from India.

Yet again, a country is cheating to help its people – and screwing everyone else.  Not just US.  Not just Costa Rica.  Everyone else.

India’s New Sugar Export Subsidy a Bitter Pill for Australia:

“India has announced a fresh round of subsidies to prop up its ailing sugar industry and Australian growers and millers argue the export incentives are an illegal market distortion….

“Previous Indian subsidies have flooded the global market with Indian sugar, and the latest package will extend the glut….

“Brazil and Guatemala joined Australia in an appeal to the the World Trade Organisation (WTO), claiming India’s export subsidies are an illegal market distortion and formal dispute resolution has begun….

“‘We are stunned by this development, just days after the WTO formally established a Dispute Panel to investigate the legality of India’s sugar subsidies,’ said Australian Sugar Milling Council chief executive David Pietsch.

“’India’s government has approved a massive market distortion. The amount of sugar involved dwarfs Australia’s total annual raw sugar exports….’”

So we wait for the WTO to get its act together and do something about this.  If they ever do.

In the meantime, India strip mines the global sugar market – and every non-Indian in it.

Oh: And a huge reason why India’s sugar production was struggling so mightily?  Which led to their sweetening their pot with $10 billion a year in subsidies?

Brazil has LONG been subsidizing their sugar production – to the tune of $4 billion per year.  Which artificially got them – to controlling almost half of the 100+ country global sugar market.

Again: Commerce is between peoples.  Trade Policy – is between governments.

We’re now in a subsidy arms race.  With governments heading in the wrong direction – ratcheting upward, rather than down.

Which results in:

Brazil Ethanol Boom Pushes Sugar Outlook to 14-Year Low

Our farmers and producers – getting omni-directional screwed.  Yet again.

Brazil Says India’s Subsidy Will Extend Cycle of Low Sugar Prices

If our farmers and food producers can’t get a decent price for their stuff – they’ll stop growing and producing their stuff.

And then where will we be?

In the name of fake free trade – DC has gutted our industrial manufacturing.

Which is inconceivably terrible.

In the name of fake free trade – DC is on the verge of gutting our food manufacturing.

Which is cataclysmic.

Let’s stop pretending fake free trade is free trade – shall we?
