O’Rourke Didn’t Know It, but He Perfectly Demonstrated How the Left Doesn’t Truly Believe In Social Justice

Just the other day, failed Texas Senate contender and current 2020 straggler Robert “Beto” O’Rourke told a group of refugees that America was founded on white supremacy. As my colleague Bonchie pointed out in his coverage of it, this is a bold faced lie. It was founded on an ideal of an idea that lead to one of freest places on the planet.

(READ: Beto O’Rourke Goes On Bizarre, Pathetic Rant Telling Refugees America Was Founded On White Supremacy)

Even if America was based on a principle of “white supremacy” then these central American refugees seem love them some white supremacy seeing as how they’re risking their lives to cross a border for a chance to stay at one of our “concentration camps.”

I mean, really, if you break down the leftist talking points and compare them to reality, they really do sound absurd.

Regardless, O’Rourke made this statement because he thought that if he did, it would give him points with the radical movement that have taken over the Democrat party. He believes that by buying into the more extreme viewpoints of the Ocasio-Cortez left, they’ll pat him on the back and toss him an approval point.

In other words, O’Rourke has relegated himself to being a dog that performs tricks for treats. He sits on command, rolls over when told, and barks out ridiculous phrases, all for a chance at a meager reward.

At least it’s cute when my dog does it. When a grown man does it for people who aren’t going to vote for him anyway, it looks so pathetic that I almost feel sorry for him.

But that O’Rourke is doing this simply because he thinks it will make him popular leads me to my point. I doubt that O’Rourke truly believe that America was founded on white supremacy. If he did truly believe it, then his next course of action should be pretty clear.

He should drop out of the race and endorse one of the non-white candidates. If he truly believes that the country who continuously elects representatives of different races, including a president,  is based on white supremacy then he should stop flailing like a person drowning in a lake and bow out with a nod at someone like Kamala Harris or Spartacus.

But he likely won’t. He’ll keep flailing while making these ridiculous statements that have zero substance to them because he continuously demonstrates that he doesn’t believe them.

And here we see the overall problem with radical leftism. As I wrote in an article on Tuesday, the social justice left doesn’t actually care about the things it professes to care about. It wants you to believe they do so they can appear to have a moral edge on its competition, but really what they want is for you to feel like they’re the safe hands that power should rest in.

(READ: It Was Never About The Breasts: SJW Outrage Over Depictions Of Women Is About Control, Not Care)

O’Rourke is out of ideas, so his last gasp is to sit on a lie and hope it plays well. The problem is that the lie he chose proves that what he’s saying is, in fact, a lie. The longer he stays in the race, the more proof we have that he is, indeed, lying.

BREAKING: Trump To Order Citizenship Question On Census Be Added By Executive Order

Here we go for another round of court battles to the Supreme Court.

In what has been one of the options President Trump has been thinking about using to add the ” ARE YOU A CITIZEN OF THE UNITED STATES” question to the census will become reality by Executive Order later today.

According to NBC News

President Donald Trump is expected to announce an executive action on getting the citizenship question added to the census, according to an administration official.

Trump announced on Twitter Thursday morning that he will hold a press conference in the afternoon to discuss his latest efforts at including the citizenship question as part of the census.

Here is the tweet from the President that the NBC story above refers to.

This action, of course, will need to be raced back to the Supreme Court Of The United States to see how Chief Justice John Roberts can twist common sense once again to screw something up.

While I’m not a fan of ANY President using the Executive order willy nilly this case seems pretty simple to me. The Executive Branch has to make sure that a census goes out every TEN years. That a question on there asking simply if you are of a citizen of this country is causing people like Nancy Pelosi to lose what little is left of her mind is odd. Put the question on the damn thing.

More will be coming from this today in regards to how Trump plans to rattle Zuck and Jacks chains I’m sure so get ready to rumble America. This summer is just heating up.

Ross Perot and Donald Trump-The Un-Politicians

Ross Perot and Donald Trump-The Un-Politicians

Tuesday’s Boston Globe had a very interesting article abut Ross Perot and Donald Trump. The title, “How Ross Perot paved the way for Donald Trump,” grabs your attention immediately, as does the very first sentence and following paragraph.

The first paragraph of H Ross Perot’s was written decades before his death: He’s a self-made billionaire who became the most successful third-party presidential candidate in nearly a century.

But the legacy of Perot, who died Tuesday at 89 years old, extends well beyond what he did in the 1990s. Perot not only showed Trump how to run as a populist for president but also how to use cable news to build a brand, frame a nationalist agenda around opposing free trade, and, yes, how to use Mexico as a political foil.

The article draws some interesting parallels.

If Donald Trump is the kind of Jesus of the disenchanted, displaced non-college white voter, then Perot was the John the Baptist of that sort of movement, Democratic strategist James Carville said in a 2016 podcast.

Further down, the article describes how both Perot and Trump made innovative use of the media platforms of the time, Perot on “Larry King Live,” and Trump using Twitter.

Here’s what the authors likely considered, their “money quote”

But, if there was one major lesson Trump might have learned from Perot, it was this: Even for a wealthy outsider with populist appeal, it is best to work within the two-party framework.

Although this is likely true, there’s another lesson, a lesson long ignored by the Washington political class. It was ignored when Perot ran and it was ignored when Trump ran; Executive Experience isn’t just “political.” Executive Experience, was most succinctly described by President Harry Truman as, The Buck Stops Here. Executive experience means having real, no-kiddin’, personal responsibility for outcomes, good and bad, of large organizations and the people who work for them.

Populism is all well and good, as long as the candidate is perceived as someone who can get those things done, the populace believes most important. Both Candidates Ross Perot and Donald Trump were widely viewed as men of action and accomplishment by other such men. The D.C. punditry along with the politicians they pontificate about, are rarely men of action, men who rarely if ever, hold significant responsibility. Thus, they have no clue how to evaluate the likes of Perot and Trump.

That D.C “elite,” made fun of Ross Perot and his infomercials that consisted of him talking to a series of charts that explained his different positions. Having never held positions of responsibility that required actual, measurable performance, they were unable to view him in the proper light. That same Beltway elite was very surprised when Perot, got 19 percent of the vote, running against Bill Clinton and the incumbent President, George H.W. Bush. This was the highest ever vote count by a third party candidate.

Fast forward to 2016, Donald J. Trump glides down the escalator and announces his candidacy based on the same populist message as Perot’s. The media elite, were once again faked out. Labeling Donald Trump a “buffoon” and “not serious” about his Presidential run, they wildly underestimated him. By the time they figured out that their “earned media” exposure had vaulted him into the top tier of Republican candidates, it was too late. He had the ear of “deplorable” America. Like Perot and his work ethic, Trump out paced the criminal crone from Chappaqua in the states most critical. We all know the result.

Although his speech pattern is obviously different than Perot’s, Donald Trump exhibits the same blunt, to-the-point style. Trump, like most successful executives (and military commanders) doesn’t pull any punches. Like Perot, Trump is driven by results. Neither of them believe in the D.C. way of doing things. My take, is that Perot if elected, would be doing the same things that President Trump is now doing, perhaps with a little less drama, but with essentially the same results. In short, H. Ross Perot did indeed, pave the way for President Donald J. Trump…and that’s a good thing.

Vanity Fair Buries the Lede As Bill Clinton Is Further Implicated In the Jeffrey Epstein Ordeal

Westlake Legal Group bill-clinton-screenshot-620x346 Vanity Fair Buries the Lede As Bill Clinton Is Further Implicated In the Jeffrey Epstein Ordeal vanity fair sex trafficking rapist Politics pedophile obfuscation media bias lolita express Jeffrey Epstein Jane Fox Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story donald trump Disgusting democrats Burying the Lede Bill Clinton

The media can always be counted on to obfuscate and push a narrative and Vanity Fair is certainly no exception.

As the disgusting truth behind the Jeffrey Epstein travesty begins to unfold, the pattern among the press has been to desperately try to tie him to Donald Trump. That’d be fine if Trump was actually implicated in any possible wrongdoing, but as it stands, there’s essentially no evidence of that. While it’s not surprising that the media are going to do their partisan dance, even on something a serious as this, the problem with their approach is that they may be overlooking actual horrible activity simply to try to weaponize this against the President.

Take Vanity Fair’s latest expose, which makes Trump the lede of the story while glossing over far more serious and relevant allegations involving Bill Clinton.

Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, who would later go to prison in part for his role in these hush money schemes, was in the room when Pecker sat down. Pecker, he later told me, used to send him articles and issues before they were published so that he and Trump could read them. After the meeting Trump called in Sam Nunberg, then a Trump Organization employee, who saw Pecker leaving Trump’s office. “Michael was sitting in there when I came in, and the issue of the National Enquirer with the pictures of Prince Andrew was on his desk,” Nunberg recalled. “He said not to tell anyone, but that Pecker had just been there and had brought the issue with him. Trump said that Pecker had told him that the pictures of Clinton that Epstein had from his island were worse.” (Cohen, speaking by phone from the Federal Correctional Institution in Otisville, corroborated Nunberg’s version of the events, though he declined to add any additional information about the meeting.)

Now, call me crazy, but it seems to be that the big story here is not that Donald Trump’s man at the National Enquirer thought Epstein had pictures of Bill Clinton on his sex slave island. No, the big story is…and again call me crazy…that there are possibly pictures of Bill Clinton on Epstein’s sex slave island.

That seems like a pretty big freaking deal to me.

But what does Vanity Fair do with that information? They don’t even look into it. They just let it go like it’s no big deal that a former President may have been a guest on the personal island of a pedophile accused of sex trafficking. We of course also know that Clinton flew on Epstein’s “Lolita Express” business jet 27 times, including at least 7 times without his secret service detail. On many of those same flights were the names of the very girls who would later make up Epstein’s accusers. Are we to believe that Bill Clinton just didn’t notice underage girls hanging around on Epstein’s airplane?

Jane Fox, who wrote the article, chooses to not even follow or further comment on the most important, damning piece of information revealed in her research. Instead, she chooses to dismiss Clinton’s involvement with this line put in parenthesis.

(Clinton denies ever traveling to Little St. James Island, but has confirmed that he traveled with Epstein several times in 2002 and 2003, including trips to Africa in connection with the Clinton Foundation. In her interview with the Enquirer, Giuffre said she had seen Clinton around, but that she never saw him involved with women.)

Even the above attempt at sweeping Clinton’s involvement under the rug is false. Giuffre, who was one of the women abused, did not simply say she had seen Clinton around. No, she said she saw him on the island. Again, how do you not treat that as a big deal worth looking into? Fox is not an idiot who just missed that fact. She is purposely obfuscating here and choosing to make her piece wholly about Trump for obvious reasons.

What’s ironic about her tact is that she ends up mostly providing evidence of Trump’s non-involvement in all this.

Trump isn’t known to have gone on any trips with Epstein, which would have been out of character. “I don’t think Trump would go to someone else’s property or someone else’s island or villa,” Nunberg said. “He doesn’t even play golf at anyone else’s clubs.”

Maybe there’s a lot more to come out regarding Epstein and Trump that we don’t know. But for the media to make this all about Trump right now, knowing what we do know, is just a complete breach of journalistic ethics in favor of rabid partisanship. The huge, blockbuster story here is not Donald Trump. It’s that former President Bill Clinton continues to appear in multiple pieces of evidence involving Epstein’s awful escapades.

Every investigative journalist worth their salt should be diving deep into the Clinton and Epstein connection because it’s a flashing red light right now. Instead, we get side-stepping pieces like this one from Vanity Fair riffing about fairly irrelevant connections to Trump while ignoring the most disturbing revelations. Whether they are meaning to or not, the media are helping to cover for some really bad actors by refusing to shift their partisan rancor and follow the evidence.

Again, if Trump ends up implicated in any of this, he should burn. As it sits though, the actual facts are telling us he’s not who should be the focus here. Bill Clinton should be breaking out into cold sweats over this and he’s not going to be the only one who goes down.

The media need to get off their duffs and do their freaking jobs on this.

A woman in the UK is suing a hospital for failing to screen her unborn son for Down Syndrome.

Had she known he had the condition, the lawsuit claims, she would’ve had an abortion.

As reported by the Mirror, Edyta Mordel is attempting to hold the National Health Service accountable for the live birth of her son to the tune of £200,000.

Per the suit, the “wrongful birth…increased financial costs of caring for her son and for the impact on her own ability to work.”

4-year-old Aleksander was born in January of 2015 at the Royal Berkshire Hospital. Hospital records reveal Edyta was “very angry and upset” upon being made aware of the baby’s condition.

According to her claim, doctors failed to administer testing which would’ve detected DS, despite the fact that she insisted. Purportedly, she even noted the need for such examination during her first meeting with a midwife.

Edyta believed the evaluation was performed at her 12-week appointment, though medical documentation speaks to the contrary.

As relayed by the Daily Mail, she appealed to London’s High Court thusly:

“I knew from the start I would agree on the Down’s syndrome screening, and I would not make any other decision. I was always sure about the decision, and I always wanted it. I spoke with the midwife about Down Syndrome screening. I had informed myself. I watched a lot of videos and read about screening.”

Her attorney insists both she and her partner — Aleksander’s father — would’ve “terminated the pregnancy.”

However, legal representatives for NHS contend that she declined the test and later regretted it.

More, from lawyer Michael de Navarro QC:

“Not only did her copy of the handheld notes contain the scan report saying that Down’s screening had been declined, but she must have realized that she had never had the result of screening which she had been told to expect.”

National Right to Life President Carol Tobias had something to say about the situation — to The Daily Caller:

“If a mother does not want to care for her precious little one, we would encourage her to let a loving family adopt and raise him, helping him to reach his full potential. And, no, a hospital should not be sued for bringing this innocent little one into the world.”

In terms of the Western culture at large, Edyta’s disposition — though shocking — isn’t such an outlier: Earlier in the year, New York approved the murder of infants mere seconds before they’re born (here); and Virginia’s governor is cool with them being murdered after birth (here).

But undoubtedly the most apt response to this story is a video shared by Ashton Kutcher in January.

Don’t miss its incredible power:

This man gave powerful speech on Down Syndrome

Everyone's life is valuable.

Amazon to Create 1,000 Jobs In Atlanta As Boycott Threats Over Georgia Heartbeat Bill Continue to be Laughable

Westlake Legal Group amazon-fedex-apple-buycott-packages-money-620x325 Amazon to Create 1,000 Jobs In Atlanta As Boycott Threats Over Georgia Heartbeat Bill Continue to be Laughable Politics jobs Hollywood Heartbeat Bill Georgia Front Page Stories Featured Story Economy Business & Economy ATLANTA amazon Allow Media Exception Abortion

They thought they were going to bring the hammer of reproductive justice — whatever that is — down on Georgia after Gov. Brian Kemp passed the Heartbeat bill into law, essentially making abortions illegal in the state with certain exceptions. Hollywood celebrities thought they could convince their fellow elites to shun the southern state.

However, the state that made Chick-fil-A is only getting more business as, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Amazon has decided to open up a warehouse facility in the heart of Atlanta. It’s like an unintentional trophy laid right at Kemp’s doorstep:

Georgia lost out on the hunt for Amazon’s second headquarters last year, but it won a consolation prize Wednesday when the e-commerce giant announced it would open a warehouse facility in metro Atlanta that will create 1,000 jobs.

The company said the 700,000-square-foot facility — a bit smaller than an average mall — will bridge Gwinnett and DeKalb counties and house workers who will pack and ship customer orders. Employees will also be hired to handle finances, information technology and other roles.

Given, Georgia made Amazon a very sweet offer in order for them to decide to plant the second campus. Since New York fell through thanks to the actions of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, where New York’s most famous politician was willing to leave it, Georgia may still be in the running to pull up quick to retrieve it. According to the AJC, it’s a pretty solid state-funded incentive:

Documents released to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution offered a glimpse of what the state offered to entice the corporate campus that involved more than $2 billion worth of publicly funded incentives, including an academy to train its employees and an exclusive lounge at Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

The 1,000 jobs that Amazon would bring into Georgia’s Gwinnett county has, from the sounds of it, been on the books for months, even getting a fancy code-name:

The project, code-named “Project Rocket,” has long been the source of intrigue. Gwinnett’s County Commission earlier approved plans for an 80-foot-tall warehouse in September off West Park Place Boulevard, just south of U.S. 78. And officials in DeKalb, home to a roughly 12-acre chunk of the site, recently rejected a proposal to build a third entrance.

What does this tell us.

Apparently states can sign whatever abortion bill they want, and if they’re business friendly enough, corporations will still happily settle in and get to work. Despite their best efforts, leftist elitists still can’t beat the awe inspiring power of capitalism.

McDonald’s Thinks Developing a Chicken Sandwich Will Help Them Compete with Chick-fil-A, but It’s Off by Miles

Westlake Legal Group ChickFilAMBStadium McDonald’s Thinks Developing a Chicken Sandwich Will Help Them Compete with Chick-fil-A, but It’s Off by Miles mcdonalds Front Page Stories Featured Story fast food Culture Corporations chicken sandwich Chick-Fil-A Business & Economy Business Allow Media Exception

The Chick-fil-A at Mercedes Benz Stadium in Atlanta, GA. Screen grab via CFA.

The number one fast food chain on the planet is seeing a major threat on the horizon, and it smells like chicken sandwiches and waffle fries.

Chick-fil-A is fast becoming America’s most well known and most loved fast food chain. It’s on track to become the third most successful store in its class, surpassing other national brands like Wendy’s and Sonic and falling behind only Starbucks and the most famous chain on the planet.

McDonald’s has noticed Chick-fil-A’s rise, and it wants to make sure that the Christian chain can never step on its toes. With that in mind, McDonald’s has decided that it’s going to begin creating a sandwich that could possibly compete with America’s current chicken sandwich champion.

“A Chicken Sandwich at McDonald’s should be our top priority,” the National Owners Association board said in an email addressed to fellow operators on Tuesday according to MSN.

“Chick Fil A’s results demonstrate the power of chicken,” the board added.

In any other kind of business environment, McDonald’s would be making the right move. The problem for McDonald’s is that while Chick-fil-A’s food is nigh unbeatable in the fast food market, the chain is so much more than chicken, shakes, and fries.

Chick-fil-A is backed by a Christian philosophy that drives their business. It’s corporate mission is “to glorify God by being a faithful steward of all that is entrusted to us and to have a positive influence on all who come into contact with Chick-fil-A,” as stated by Chick-fil-A’s about its corporate purpose. This Christian drive for being a positive influence makes them focus on hospitality and good service.

Chick-fil-A’s vice president David Farmer described the company’s approach to the customer’s experience as “[NASCAR] pit crew efficiency, but where you feel like you just got hugged in the process.”

And they do this very well. The chicken sandwich chain is so good at getting customers in and out with all the friendliness and warmth of a church door greater on Sunday that it’s become an internet meme. As it happens, I had a semi-jocular conversation with my RedState colleague Bonchie about it today, recalling the fact that I actually had to leave a Chick-fil-A drive-thru line solely out of fear that I’d be hit by cars due to the fact that the drive-thru line had spilled into the road and extended into the intersection before it.

This isn’t a rare occurrence, either, as this is a phenomenon that happens all around the country. People are willing to queue up in these lines because they know they’re not going to be waiting long thanks to the swiftness of Chick-fil-A’s employees.

Air traffic controllers don’t operate this efficiently.

I’ve been to many a McDonald’s in my day. Going in there is usually a hit or miss experience. I might get a friendly employee who takes my order and sends me on my way after only a few moments. I might also get a bored employee who clearly doesn’t want to be there and shows it in their attitude toward me. I’m one more obstacle in their quest to sit around and do nothing while they run down the clock.

Hopefully your order is complete, and after all that, you still have to eat McDonald’s. I haven’t been in one in years except to use it as an impromptu stop for a restroom on road trips.

McDonald’s thinks this is about a chicken sandwich. Yeah, the sandwich helps, but Chick-fil-A feels like a business with weight and substance to it. Meanwhile, McDonald’s feels like every other sterilized corporation that is more concerned with money than good service. They served food that was unfit for humans until Jamie Oliver uncovered what kind of meat they were serving to humans, and then quietly stopped doing it.

Meanwhile, Chick-fil-A has walked through fire and came out unburnt like some kind of Christian Khaleesi. After LGBT activists attempted to punish Chick-fil-A for its leaders daring to say it believed in traditional marriage — like any Christian would — Chick-fil-A walked away more popular and wealthy than ever. Even today, no matter how hard they try, left-leaning activists can’t seem to stop the juggernaut.

This endeared Chick-fil-A to the masses, not only because it stood tall against the bullies, but because it came out on top afterward.

It’s a proven corporation with classic American values, Christian principles, solid food, and customer service that many corporations only dream of.

McDonald’s doesn’t have a chicken sandwich problem, it has a “it’s nothing like Chick-fil-A” problem.

House Oversight Committee Democrats were caught in a couple of significant “oopsies” on Twitter Tuesday, when it was discovered not one but two tweets they posted this month to promote a “kids in cages” immigration hearing that was held earlier today contained images of kids in cages during the Obama administration.

Fox News reports:

“Last week, members of our committee visited a detention center at the southern border and discovered grotesque treatment of children,” the first tweet, posted Tuesday afternoon, said. “This week, we are examining the inhumane treatment of the children in these detention centers.”

But the tweet included a photograph taken by The Associated Press in 2014, during the Obama administration, showing migrants in detention in Arizona. The Trump campaign flagged the soon-deleted tweet and noted the image comes from a time when current Democratic presidential primary front-runner Joe Biden was vice president.

“House Democrats are promoting their ‘civil rights’ hearing on ‘kids in cages’ and ‘inhumane treatment’ with a photo from 2014, when Joe Biden was Vice President,” the tweet read. “So dishonest!”

According to The Daily Caller, House Democrats then put up a new tweet with a different photograph — also, it turns out, from the Obama administration years. That tweet was soon deleted as well, after it was noticed by their Republican counterparts on the committee.

“You all know that’s a picture from 2014, right? Remind us who was President then,” the tweet said.

Here’s are screen grabs of the tweets. The first one was from July 2nd, according to Caleb Hull. The second one was from Tuesday the 9th:

If they were truly interested in the whole truth, why not just alter the text on the images to read “Kids in Cages: Inhumane Treatment at the Border from 2014-2019”? Because asking for a full accounting regarding the origins of the “kids in cages” issues on the border is apparently just too much:

“The photo was an error, and it has been removed. But there is simply no comparison between the actions of the Obama Administration and the Trump Administrations,” a committee aide on the Democratic side told the Washington Examiner. “The Obama Administration did not separate children from their families and create dehumanizing conditions as a way to deter immigration and asylum, which is the stated policy of the Trump Administration. The Obama Administration separated children only in an extremely small number of cases when there was a true danger to the child’s safety.”

Last month, Obama’s former ICE chief Thomas Homan confirmed once again how and when the issues with putting kids behind the chain-link fences began.

New Book Details the Trump Campaign’s Behind-the-Scenes Handling of the Damning ‘Access Hollywood’ Tape

A new book by a Politico contributor reveals the Trump campaign’s reaction to the notorious Access Hollywood tape which spawned a million pink hats and a million mischaracterizations.

In American Carnage, Tim Alberta captures the moment top campaign officials learned of the tape and its contents:

Trump looked at [Reince Priebus], put the packet on the table, and slid it across. The party chairman began to read, the room now filling around him with the rest of the team. They had all seen it: an email exchange with Washington Post reporter David Fahrenthold, who claimed to have an old audio recording of Trump making exceedingly lewd remarks about women and boasting of his ability to get away with sexual assault.

I’d like to stop right there — that would be one of those million mischaracterizations.

To be clear, Donald Trump did not “[boast] of his ability to get away with sexual assault.”

Trump did, rather, say that women would “let” him grab them. That’s a very important distinction.

Back to the book:

Fahrenthold had sent over the alleged quotes and was requesting comment from the campaign for a story that would run later that day.

“Wow, this isn’t good,” Priebus said, his eyes fixed on a single line. “This is really, really bad.”

The group was paralyzed with silence. Finally, Kushner piped up. “You know, I don’t think it’s all that bad.”

“Jared, what are you talking about?” Priebus said, burying his head in his hands. “This is as bad as it gets.”

Tim asserts Trumps advisers held to hopes the claims were false. Those were, however, dasedh against the rocks of recorded reality when a copy of the tape was sent over.

Kellyanne Conway recounted The Donald’s surprise:

“It was a moment of humility and vulnerability. He legitimately did not remember saying that.”

As per Carnage, the exposure scooted away some members of the GOP establishment, and fear abounded that Mike Pence would disassociate as well.

But Donald was determined.

Not for a moment would Trump consider quitting the race. He was unmoved by the rebukes of the Republican lawmakers who were piling on with excoriating statements; most of them, he scoffed, were the same people who had opposed his candidacy from its inception.

For a hot second, the chronicle notes, New York’s most famed eccentric agreed to go beyond his apology video and give an interview to ABC in the name of damage control. He abruptly about-faced.

The book claims Trump’s clinching of the presidency came during the 2nd debate, at which he showcased Bill Clinton’s accusers and relentlessly obliterated Hillary over her email scandal.

It was, without question, the ugliest and most vitriolic presidential debate in the mass-communication era. And it was exactly what Trump needed. Facing pressure unlike any White House hopeful in memory, the Republican nominee didn’t just get off the mat; he came up swinging. It made all the difference. Within 48 hours the bleeding had stopped: Republicans ceased their calls for his withdrawal, Pence dutifully returned to the stump and his campaign went on as though nothing had happened.

“Went on as though nothing had happened” seems a fair assessment of Trump’s inimitable style and history. The man knows how to rebound.

Where the election’s concerned, Democrats haven’t seemed to possess the same.

That’s why, as I sit in Los Angeles writing this, I may well be within 1000 yards of a still-worn kitty cap.

Confederate Railroad Cancellation a “Teachable Moment”?

The Du Quoin State Fair is set to begin August 23rd in Du Quoin, Illinois. It’s an 11-day event complete with “rides, food, grandstand shows, free entertainment, harness races, motorsports, half-mile track, twilight parade, horse shows, livestock, cooking competitions, karaoke contest, home show events, and so much more….”

The Fair also features musical acts including, up until several days ago, the band “Confederate Railroad.”  The country rock band was founded in 1987 in Marietta, GA, and has been associated with such notables as George Jones, Charlie Daniels, and Lynyrd Skynyrd.

Now, however, the band has been disinvited from the Fair.  Per Yahoo:

Country rock band Confederate Railroad confirmed that it was dropped from the lineup at the Du Quoin State Fair in Illinois because of its name.
The group’s founder and frontman Danny Shirley wrote in a statement on the band’s website on Tuesday that the Illinois Department of Agriculture’s decision was “very disappointing as we have played this fair before and enjoyed it very much.”

Following the cancellation, the Illinois Department of Agriculture released a statement:

“While every artist has a right to expression, we believe this decision is in the best interest of serving all the people of our state.”

Initially, though, the Department declined to confirm it was due to the band’s name. Then things got really interesting. As reported by CBS affiliate KFVS12, Illinois State Representative Terri Bryant detailed her efforts to investigate the cancellation on Facebook:

I have been trying to sort truth from fiction in the issue of entertainment decisions at our two State Fairs. I know…

Posted by Bryant for Illinois on Monday, July 8, 2019

In the post, Bryant describes her meeting with “two high-ranking members of [Illinois Governor J.B.] Pritzker’s Exec. Staff.” Per Bryant:

I was informed in no uncertain terms, that the decision to cancel CR was made by the Pritzker administration, including the two people sitting with me at the table.

….

They refused my insistence that Confederate Railroad be permitted to perform. Their reasoning was that they have a hard fast rule not to permit any use of the Confederate flag in any way. When I asked what their policy was pertaining to a sitting President being depicted in the way President Trump is depicted on Snoop Dogg’s album cover, they said, they had no such policy.

In fact, I was told by one of the Governor’s staffers that I should use this case as a “teachable moment” for the people of Southern Illinois. I am serious…that is what the staffer said.
In short, the Pritzker administration canceled Confederate Railroad because the Confederate flag offends many people.

They refused to cancel Snoop Dogg even though it offends many people. I believe in very limited government censorship. I believe even less in double standards.

If you’re like me, this sentence made you do a double-take: “I was told by one of the Governor’s staffers that I should use this case as a “teachable moment” for the people of Southern Illinois.”  I wrote about the divide between Illinois’ power centers and downstate last fall. Since that time, Pritzker was elected Governor and has signed into law a series of measures that can fairly be described as progressive (and not in line with the sensibilities of many downstate residents), including a significant gas tax hike (doubled) and broad abortion protections, among others. There have been increasing rumblings, in fact, of a separation between red and blue Illinois:

There’s a civil war of sorts under way in Illinois – pitting Chicago against much of the rest of the state.  This dispute is one of politics and policy and it has even led to a resolution being filed by a group of Republicans that would split Illinois into two separate states.

While this prospect may not be reaching critical mass anytime soon, my guess is referring to this decision — which one might reasonably debate — as a “teachable moment” for “the people of Southern Illinois” isn’t likely to help in that regard. All it does is further serve to highlight the attitudinal divide.

Condescension really isn’t a pretty look. Neither is viewpoint discrimination.
