Gabbard Was Right: It Was ALWAYS About Regime Change in Syria

Last night during the Democrat debate, and even today via various commentary, the only ones who appear to really know what is going on in Syria, are President Donald Trump and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard. When asked her opinion regarding the recent events in Syria, Gabbard said,

Well, first of all, we’ve got to understand the reality of the situation there, which is that the slaughter of the Kurds being done by Turkey is yet another negative consequence of the regime change war that we’ve been waging in Syria.

Donald Trump has the blood of the Kurds on his hands, but so do many of the politicians in our country from both parties who have supported this ongoing regime change war in Syria that started in 2011, along with many in the mainstream media, who have been championing and cheerleading this regime change war.

Mayor Buttigieg responded,

Well, respectfully, Congresswoman, I think that is dead wrong. The slaughter going on in Syria is not a consequence of American presence. It’s a consequence of a withdrawal and a betrayal by this president of American allies and American values.

Gabbard put him away with the following,

Yeah, absolutely. So, really, what you’re saying, Mayor Pete, is that you would continue to support having U.S. troops in Syria for an indefinite period of time to continue this regime change war that has caused so many refugees to flee Syria, that you would continue to have our country involved in a war that has undermined our national security, you would continue this policy of the U.S. actually providing arms in support to terrorist groups in Syria, like Al Qaida, HTS, al-Nusra and others, because they are the ones who have been the ground force in this regime change war? That’s really what you’re saying?

I could tell that Gabbard had had an outsized effect as the moderators let former Vice President Biden have the last word,

And with regard to regime change in Syria, that has not been the policy we change the regime. It has been to make sure that the regime did not wipe out hundreds of thousands of innocent people between there and the Iraqi border..

Gabbard must have struck a nerve. After the debate, the on the air commentary by the leftist punditry hit her for straying off the Democrat plantation on this particular issue. That continued in print today with VOX’s “Winners and Losers” column (emphasis mine)

The congresswoman from Hawaii has premised her entire candidacy on fierce opposition to US military adventurism abroad. Tonight, she had a chance to distinguish herself during a lengthy foreign policy debate — and made a series of blatantly false statements.

VOX goes on

The US is not waging a war of regime change in Syria (as Biden pointed out later in the debate). American troops are in northern Syria assisting Kurdish forces in combating the ISIS presence in the country. The reason Turkey invaded the Kurdish-held territory is that it sees the Kurds as terrorists and doesn’t want them to have a quasi-state on its border. And it was able to launch the invasion because President Donald Trump pulled out US troops.

But Gabbard’s comment wasn’t a one-off error. Again and again, Gabbard called for an end to the “regime war in Syria,” which is simply not what’s happening there. She bizarrely blamed the “regime change war” for the Syrian refugee crisis, instead of the murderous regime of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, which has indiscriminately attacked populated areas.

When Buttigieg challenged her shaky analysis, saying that “the slaughter going on in Syria is not a consequence of American presence, it a consequence of a withdrawal and a betrayal,” she accused him of supporting “endless war.” His response was succinct and devastating: “You can put an end to endless war without embracing Donald Trump’s policy, as you’re doing.”

In a post debate hot take, my colleague Bonchie had this to say

The United States miscalucated on Libya and Syria. That’s the point Gabbard has been consistently making, even when the rest of her party was cheer-leading those interventions. That may not matter to the talking head sitting in an MSNBC studio today, but it should matter to the rest of us, and whether you agree with Gabbard or not, at least be intellectually honest enough to admit that the war in Syria didn’t start in 2017.

Why was Gabbard cut off? Why has the entire leftist establishment gone after her? My colleague has indicated that the mainstream left, was protecting Elizabeth Warren…and possibly Joe Biden, though the jury is still out on that second part. I believe there is a lot more to it than that. They are protecting the legacy of President Barack Hussein Obama.

This whole Syria mess belongs to Obama. As I mentioned in a previous series of pieces on Syria (links below) President Obama, at the urging of his UN Ambassador Samantha Powers, supported by his National Security Advisor, Susan Rice, came up with a U.S. doctrine known as “Responsibility To Protect” or RTP. It is this failed doctrine that is responsible for the exaggerated death toll in the area.

But, the Obama/Powers doctrine didn’t start in Syria. Prior to its employment in Syria, it had already resulted in two key allied governments being overthrown and one allied President being murdered. In the case of Libya’s Qaddafi, then-Secretary of State Clinton was heard to cackle, “We came. We saw. He died.” Think about that. We supported and then celebrated the demise of a former hostile enemy who had made peace with us. We celebrated his murder in the street.

In Egypt, President Hosni Mubarak was also overthrown (but not murdered). His successor, a radical Islamist named Morsi, was vocally supported by the Obama Administration. Typical of the Obama/Powers foreign policy, a cooperating ally was replaced with a hostile one, the more radical the better. Fortunately, Morsi was toppled by a popularly backed military coup and Egypt ultimately elected a President who, after Obama’s departure, has sought closer ties with the U.S. and extended cooperation with Israel.

In Syria, the Obama administration thought they could extend their tough-guy foreign policy by toppling yet another dictator. Once again they would hide behind the skirts of RTP while trying to depose Bashar al-Assad. Assad was in the middle of a civil war, a leftover result from the same “Arab Spring” upheavals that made Qaddafi and Mubarak vulnerable.

What the Obama-Powers team did next, is why we now have a situation where we are in confrontations with a NATO ally and Syrian backed Russian forces, as we try to defend two groups of terrorists. President Obama just had to meddle in the Syrian civil war, a conflict that had absolutely no negative impact on the interests of the United States. What this did, was convince President Assad that he needed some help—and fast. So what did he do? He invited in the Russians, sweetening the pot with what they’ve always wanted—a port for their navy.

The Russians being good military partners, also brought some ground troops and some airplanes. They had enough airplanes flying patrol, that we had to establish a hotline with their field commanders to “deconflict” our flights and theirs. I’ve mentioned before that, according to international conventions, which we are a signatory to, if a Russian aircraft downed a U.S. plane over Syria, killing the pilot, we would be at fault. That’s right. The Russians are there at the invitation of the legal sovereign in Syria. We, on the other hand, are in a foreign country without its permission.

Meanwhile, ISIS was getting some traction in Iraq and Northern Syria. What did the Obama Administration do? It decided to once again take on “partners” of questionable character, namely two Kurdish terrorist organizations, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) (Turkish Kurds). These two groups indeed did a fine job in killing ISIS fighters, which they would have done anyhow as they were already fighting them. But as they seized ground in Northern Syria, they also killed their fair share of Christians and destroyed priceless antiquities—something Assad did not do. A big part of his long term support in Syria was that he left Christians and the Druze alone.

Now that the ISIS threat was gone, President Erdogan wanted to rid himself of the danger a border enclave of SDF and PKK would pose to his country. Remember, tens of thousands of Turks have been killed in PKK terrorist attacks. Erdogan had a righteous concern. So, he gave his NATO ally due notice and sent his Army to clean up the border area. President Trump, wisely not wanting to get involved in an anti-terrorism operation by a NATO ally, nor put U.S Troops unduly at risk, got our folks out of the way.

Interestingly, far from being totally massacred, the SDK and the PKK now have found new allies—Syria and the Russians. In not too long a time, the revolutionaries who were trying to break free from Assad, are now voluntarily back in the fold, Assad is more firmly entrenched in power and now the Russians have their very own port and increased influence in the area. All of this as a result of President Obama sticking his nose into other countries’ business. However, where we are now, does provide a clue as to how we get out of this imbroglio. Stay tuned.

If two trains leave Tulsa at 3 p.m., 1 traveling at 75 mph and the other 85, and if the first goes east and the other west, how long will it take for them to be 487 miles apart?

The answer: White cisgender b*st*rds have systematically subjugated all others through social constructs and capitalistic manifestations of the inherent patriarchal evil.

Perhaps you haven’t learned the new math, but there’s a lot of it goin’ ’round.

Just see: “Seattle Public Education Posts Its White-Privilege ‘Math Ethnic Studies Framework,’ And It Just May Blow Your Mind

But for those of you who understand that objectivity is outdated and not subscribing to microagressions is a microagression and commiting a microagression is a macroagression, do we have a job for you.

Dr. Kate Clancy is offering the opportunity of a lifetime to one lucky “anti-racist, intersectional feminist biologist” jonesing for a PhD.

If you’ve always wanted to study how…

Well, I’ll just let her tell it:

“Are you an anti-racist, intersectional feminist biologist looking for an awesome lab in which to get your PhD? Want to study how environmental stressors (including those from structural racism/sexism) influence women’s & gender diverse people’s reproductive function?”

She’s nothing if not specific. Because, what if you were a racist intersectional feminist biologist? Wrong fit.

But if you’ve got the goods, she’s sittin’ on go to “advocate for you”:

According to her Twitter profile, Kate’s an associate professor at the University of Illinois. Her interests: “Harassment, discrimination, stress, and menstrual cycles.”

Apparently, she also hosts the Period Podcast, “a podcast about ladypart science.”

And if you’re worried about sexual violence in the world, Kate’s fixing it:

As for the job opening, she’s got some interest:

“Can I get a second PhD? Because I think I would love that environment!”

“I mean… it’s too late for me. But are you looking for postdocs?”

“Is the fall start strict? I have a current masters student who would be really interested in this, but doesn’t finish until end of 2020!”

“If this had been two years ago I would have been there in a second! Doing my PhD already but if/when you’re looking for a post doc in a few years, you’ll hear from me so quick”

Some naysayers got serious:

“Dr. Clancy, you should come see the institutional racism and slaughter of whites in South Africa. Some liberals calls it payback. Was never this bad under Apartheid though. Read the book “Kill the Boer” by Ernst Roets.”

“Makes me highly suspicious of your work. The study of biology should have no political leaning, and to recruit on ideological bent is a huge red flag. I knew this crap was in the humanities, but it seems it’s metastasising…”

“If you had any sense whatsoever you would completely and utterly ashamed of yourself for spreading this ideological excrement. It is truly a a clear indication of a deep disorder of the mind.”

And there was this head-scratcher:

But then there were these:

And this:

I’m posting this one mostly for the screen name:

And just in case you’re interested in the opening but intimidated by Kate’s academic disposition, she’s a chick who can get casual with the best of ’em:

It’s The Economy Stupid

James Carville would be rolling over in his grave if he were in one now being Trump could use his famous line from the 1992 election. The way Carville looks though, he might be sleeping in one actually.

According to a story over at Moody’s   the 45th President will keep his place at 1600 Pennsylvania for another 4 years if the economy holds up.

President Donald Trump looks likely to cruise to reelection next year under three different economic models Moody’s Analytics employed to gauge the 2020 race.

Barring anything unusual happening, the president’s Electoral College victory could easily surpass his 2016 win over Democrat Hillary Clinton, which came by a 304-227 count.

Moody’s based its projections on how consumers feel about their own financial situation, the gains the stock market has achieved during Trump’s tenure and the prospects for unemployment, which has fallen to a 50-year low. Should those variables hold up, the president looks set to get another four-year term.

The modeling has been highly accurate going back to the 1980 election, missing only once.

That one time that their model was wrong? Of course, it was the 2016 election where Donald Trump beat the wife of Bill Clinton.

The lowest electoral number Trump gets in these models is 289 which is above the 270 votes needed to win. The highest he gets is 352 which looks like a pipe dream to me.

This is all factored in on the economy doing well which under ANY OTHER President would be a safe, reliable gauge. However in the “Age of Trump” nothing is the same as it was prior to his election in Nov. of 2016 and you pretty much have to throw the rule book out and start rewriting it.

I live in the State of Michigan which Trump flipped to Republican for the first time since 1988. Team Bill’s wife did not take the threat serious that Michigan was up for grabs until the last 10 days of the election and they lost the state by 11.000 votes.

That is not going to happen again where the Democrats are asleep at the wheel.

So just based on the economy this should be a slam dunk for President Trump and he should win by a country mile.

We will see in less than 13 months if these predictions come true.

As I wrote yesterday, basketball superstar LeBron James stepped in it bigly on Monday night in response to a question about Houston Rockets general manager Daryl Morey’s simple statement of support for Hong Kong protesters, which was tweeted on 10/4, just days before James and his L.A. Lakers teammates traveled to China to take on the Brooklyn Nets in two preseason games.

Not only was James’ initial statement an epic fail, but his follow-up two-tweet thread on Twitter actually made matters worse for the future Hall of Famer, as he complained about how Morey “could have waited a week” before sending out his tweet because it had been a “difficult week” for him, his fellow Lakers, and the NBA.

James, who is practically a woke legend in liberal/Democratic/social justice warrior circles, was widely criticized for his hypocrisy on the issue, with many people noting a tweet he posted in January 2018 that included a quote from MLK, Jr. about fighting injustice everywhere and the dangers of remaining silent:

James tripled down in comments made on Tuesday afternoon, as reported by the USA Today’s Mark Medina:

It was the video clip of James’ Tuesday comments that Sen. Ben Sasse (R-NE) was responding to when he posted this hilarious but on-point meme:

I’d say that about sums the situation up for “PeKing James.”

The Anti-Religion Left Goes Nuts Over Bill Barr’s Warning About the Fatal Results of Militant Secularism

Westlake Legal Group bill-barr-620x317 The Anti-Religion Left Goes Nuts Over Bill Barr’s Warning About the Fatal Results of Militant Secularism Secularism republicans religious freedom religion Politics Indiana Front Page Stories Featured Story Culture & Faith bill barr attorney general bill barr Allow Media Exception

U.S. Attorney General William Barr listens to concerns raised about public safety in rural Alaska during at a roundtable discussion at the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium on Wednesday, May 29, 2019, in Anchorage, Alaska. Barr did not take questions from reporters in his first public appearance after former special prosecutor Robert Mueller spoke to reporters after resigning at the completion of his report into Russian interference into the 2016 election. (AP Photo/Mark Thiessen)

On Friday, Attorney General Bill Barr delivered a speech at Notre Dame University. It was, in my experience, much different fare than I’ve come to expect of attorneys general. It wasn’t a plea for more cops or more laws or more money. Rather it was a jeremiad about what happens when the state assumes the role of that religious institutions have previously played in the our public life. In particular, Barr notes that religion is under active attack.

[Full speech here]

The challenge we face is precisely what the Founding Fathers foresaw would be our supreme test as a free society.

They never thought the main danger to the republic came from external foes. The central question was whether, over the long haul, we could handle freedom. The question was whether the citizens in such a free society could maintain the moral discipline and virtue necessary for the survival of free institutions.

By and large, the Founding generation’s view of human nature was drawn from the classical Christian tradition.

These practical statesmen understood that individuals, while having the potential for great good, also had the capacity for great evil.

Men are subject to powerful passions and appetites, and, if unrestrained, are capable of ruthlessly riding roughshod over their neighbors and the community at large.

No society can exist without some means for restraining individual rapacity.

But, if you rely on the coercive power of government to impose restraints, this will inevitably lead to a government that is too controlling, and you will end up with no liberty, just tyranny.

On the other hand, unless you have some effective restraint, you end up with something equally dangerous – licentiousness – the unbridled pursuit of personal appetites at the expense of the common good. This is just another form of tyranny – where the individual is enslaved by his appetites, and the possibility of any healthy community life crumbles.

Edmund Burke summed up this point in his typically colorful language:

“Men are qualified for civil liberty, in exact proportion to their disposition to put chains upon their appetites…. Society cannot exist unless a controlling power be placed somewhere; and the less of it there is within, the more there must be without. It is ordained in the eternal constitution of things that men intemperate minds cannot be free. Their passions forge their fetters.”

The answer Barr offered was unsurprising to anyone with a passing acquaintance with our history or even with Western Civilization:

Religion helps promote moral discipline within society. Because man is fallen, we don’t automatically conform ourselves to moral rules even when we know they are good for us.

But religion helps teach, train, and habituate people to want what is good. It does not do this primarily by formal laws – that is, through coercion. It does this through moral education and by informing society’s informal rules – its customs and traditions which reflect the wisdom and experience of the ages.

In other words, religion helps frame moral culture within society that instills and reinforces moral discipline.

He presents the secularist critique of religion and goes on to document the failures of secularism.

But today – in the face of all the increasing pathologies – instead of addressing the underlying cause, we have the State in the role of alleviator of bad fconsequences. We call on the State to mitigate the social costs of personal misconduct and irresponsibility.

So the reaction to growing illegitimacy is not sexual responsibility, but abortion.

The reaction to drug addiction is safe injection sites.

The solution to the breakdown of the family is for the State to set itself up as the ersatz husband for single mothers and the ersatz father to their children.

The call comes for more and more social programs to deal with the wreckage. While we think we are solving problems, we are underwriting them.

We start with an untrammeled freedom and we end up as dependents of a coercive state on which we depend.

What really drove the secularist over the edge was his conclusion:

Education is not vocational training. It is leading our children to the recognition that there is truth and helping them develop the faculties to discern and love the truth and the discipline to live by it.

We cannot have a moral renaissance unless we succeed in passing to the next generation our faith and values in full vigor.

The times are hostile to this. Public agencies, including public schools, are becoming secularized and increasingly are actively promoting moral relativism.

Finally, as lawyers, we should be particularly active in the struggle that is being waged against religion on the legal plane.

We must be vigilant to resist efforts by the forces of secularization to drive religious viewpoints from the public square and to impinge upon the free exercise of our faith.

I can assure you that, as long as I am Attorney General, the Department of Justice will be at the forefront of this effort, ready to fight for the most cherished of our liberties: the freedom to live according to our faith.

And there is so much more goodness here that I encourage you to read the whole thing.

The criticism wasn’t long in coming:

That anything Barr said was shocking is shocking. The criticisms betray a blinding ignorance of our national history and traditions and show a willingness to lie in order to aggrandize power to the government. What is striking is that Barr is merely making a 21st Century riff off the 1798 speech by John Adams that included:

We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion . . . Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

Or off Tocqueville:

Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.

Or our first socialist president, FDR:

In teaching this democratic faith to American children, we need the sustaining, buttressing aid of those great ethical religious teachings which are the heritage of our modern civilization. For ‘not upon strength nor upon power, but upon the spirit of God’ shall our democracy be founded.

(h/t to the WSJ for the quotes by Tocqueville and FDR)

Barr is right. I’ve never been able to understand why people on the right who are allegedly conservatives haven’t hesitated to jump aboard virtually every train to crazy town that has pulled out of Tolerance station in the past ten years. The inability to stand up and be counted in opposition to really bad ideas–here I include all manner of pathologies from homosexual marriage to the mainstreaming of transgenderism–has made the right unable to restrain the growth of the militant secularists who are clearly out to eradicate religion.

But just as we can’t rely upon the government to fill the role of religion in society, neither can we rely upon government to protect religious liberty. We can only do that by speaking out and by teaching our children Christian morality and dogma from Day One so that they can resist the pressure of a hostile society.

Hunter Biden Evades Question of How Much He Made With Burisma, While State Dept Official Says He Raised Questions About Burisma Corruption in 2016

There’s been a lot of questions about Hunter Biden’s relationship with the Ukrainian energy firm Burisma while his father was Vice President and a point man for the Obama administration on Ukraine.

Reportedly, Hunter received at least $50,000 a month for his position on the board, despite no prior energy experience and no experience with Ukraine.

During his interview with ABC that was aired yesterday, Hunter Biden admitted that he was likely put on the boards because he was the son of the Vice President. He was then asked if he made what has been reported, $50,000 per month for being on the board.

He completely refused to answer the question, “Look, I’m a private citizen. One thing I don’t have to do is sit here and open my kimono as it relates to how much money I did or did not make. But it’s all been reported,” he claimed.

Boy, that evasion isn’t a good look. You’re not just a private citizen when your father is the Vice-President dictating policy in the region.

There have been reports including from Fox’s John Solomon that the amount might be more than the $50,000 reported.

But a further problem is the questions of corruption associated with the firm and its connection to the government. This was touched upon during George Kent’s testimony on Thursday, according to a report from the Daily Caller.

A senior State Department official told Congress on Tuesday that he had concerns in 2016 with corruption involving Burisma Holdings, the Ukrainian energy firm linked to Hunter Biden, two sources familiar with his testimony told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

George Kent, who serves as deputy assistant secretary of state for Eurasian and European affairs, spoke at length Tuesday about Burisma’s problems with corruption, the two sources told the DCNF. They shared details of the deposition on condition of anonymity.

The career diplomat also said that he raised concerns with USAID in 2016 regarding an event that the agency was to have with Burisma, which is owned by Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevsky.

Kent was worried because the event involved children, and he did not feel comfortable with them being photographed in conjunction with the company, the two sources said. The State Department did not respond to a request for comment.

Kent isn’t the only one saying there were concerns.

On October 10 in the Wall Street Journal, Valentin Nalyvaichenko who is now a Member of Parliament in Ukraine, said that they needed to investigate both the meddling alleged by Ukraine in the 2016 election and questions of alleged corruption of Burisma.

Second, Ukraine must resolve the allegations regarding Burisma. As the former head of the Security Service of Ukraine, our version of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, I know there are many accusations of corruption against this company.

There have not been any allegations of any specific wrongdoing by Hunter Biden while he was with the firm.

But suggesting in the midst of all this that he’s just a private person and questions aren’t valid or deserving of answers, is perhaps a bit much.

Even the old guard politicians occasionally get tripped up and get trapped into a corner that they never needed to be. After yesterday’s painful admission by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that the House would not vote on an “impeachment inquiry” as has been done in the past, she can only blame herself for being in the corner she is in now.

Oh, and A.O.C. and the Progressive cheer squad are coming after her.

As I talked about on my podcast today, Bourbon On The Rocks, I think Pelosi blinked hard in her admission and is now trying to save face. Bourbon On The Rocks: Nancy Pelosi Blinked #851

Nancy Pelosi is an incredibly skilled politician. You don’t become the first woman Speaker of the House, lose that position and get vanquished for 8 years to come back to it again if you are not a master of the process. Those that discount her in this way don’t understand politics. Pelosi has game.

Put another way, if you were in General George S. Patton’s army in World War II and you underestimated your enemies’ strength, you were the one getting slapped.

Never underestimate your opponent when they have a track record of getting stuff done.

However, she slipped up 3 weeks ago when she seemed to come out of nowhere talking about impeachment and that it needed to be looked at NOW. Pelosi had been the one slamming on the brakes saying slow down while she was taking flack from her new colleagues in the Squad.

These ladies think D.C. should work like a Burger King drive-through: your way in less than 10 minutes.

The Speaker did an about-face on Sept 24th when, according to CNBC, she warmed up to the idea of kicking Donald out of the White House before an election.

Pelosi has until now resisted Democrats’ calls for Trump’s impeachment, which have grown steadily in intensity since the release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia report.

She has been privately weighing a possible impeachment inquiry for months — but early Tuesday morning, Pelosi’s allies were convinced she would not go down that route, sources told CNBC.

Hours later, however, those same people were told that she’s planning to move ahead with the inquiry, the sources said.

What changed?

We now know that Adam Schiff’s staff had met with the “whistleblower” and were told the phone call was damming and explosive. They probably counted on Trump NOT releasing the transcripts of the call. When he did and the nation yawned, they had to find some other angle. As of now, they have not. Even Schiff is not asking for the whistleblower to come testify now, being what is the point?

The second part of Pelosi’s sudden jump to Impeach I believe was that Alexandria Ocasio Cortez the weekend before started to get lippy on Twitter. She accused the leadership of her caucus in the House of being worse than Trump.

According to the Washington Examiner

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez declared her exasperation with Democratic leadership for their refusal to move forward with impeachment proceedings against President Trump as yet another controversy rocks his administration.

A two-month truce with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi cracked just before midnight Saturday when the freshman congresswoman from New York fired a volley on Twitter attacking her own party.

“At this point, the bigger national scandal isn’t the president’s lawbreaking behavior – it is the Democratic Party’s refusal to impeach him for it,”

This is why you never listen to kids on climate change or on how to operate in Washington D.C. because they feel and don’t think – and look at what a mess you have now, Madame Speaker.

So a veteran of the political wars in the Nation’s capitol just got railroaded into making a bad, bad move by some shady guy named Schiff and a bartender turned non-environmental guru named A.O.C., who really does have a nice $250.00 dollar haircut.

In my opinion, the Speaker pacified Cortez and her small group when she received bad intel from Schiff and she acted to keep another public spat with the kids from erupting. She now has to try and explain why they will not do an impeachment inquiry vote and break over two centuries of precedent. She can’t explain this one away.

In the title, I ask who will win in the upcoming battle between the old guard and the new upstarts. I always want to give the edge to experience with age and wisdom.

In this match, though, I’m afraid that I’m going to give the edge to the upstarts. Not because they are correct but they don’t know any better and they feel they are right as opposed to the calmness that comes over you when you KNOW that you are right.

Youth, vigor, and spreading your feelings via a mass Twitter following will win this battle.

Which most likely means Trump will win again in 2020.

Gods Speed, Speaker Pelosi, you had a good run.

Biden Campaign’s 3Q ‘Cash on Hand’ Less Than Half of Top Tier Rivals; Trump Has More Cash Than All 2020 Candidates Combined

The Biden campaign’s supply of “cash on hand” at the end of the third quarter stood at just under $9 million according to a report in today’s Wall Street Journal. That compares to almost $34 million for Sen. Bernie Sanders, $25.7 million for Sen. Elizabeth Warren and $23.4 million for South Bend, IN mayor Pete Buttigieg. Even Sen. Kamala Harris had $10.5 million in cash on hand.

What, if anything, does this mean for the Biden campaign going forward? Are donors sensing that his candidacy may be irreparably damaged by Biden’s March 2016 threat to withhold $1 billion in U.S. aid unless Ukraine fired the Prosecutor General who was about to investigate his son. Maybe that, on top of all the questions about his mental acuity which surfaced over the summer, have supporters doubting his viability.

The Journal reported that Biden’s campaign raised $15.7 million and spent $17.7 million during the quarter, making it the only campaign in the top four to have spent more than they’d raised. Payroll accounted for $9 million for the period.

Senior advisor to Biden’s campaign, Symone Sanders told the Journal they believe “the primary election will be a dogfight that will continue well after the first few states have voted…This isn’t something that’s going to be over in Iowa or New Hampshire.”

According to the report, most of Sanders’ and Warren’s contributions have come from small donors. Conversely, many of Biden’s donors have contributed the maximum legal amount.

The report also showed that six of the lower tier candidates had less than $1 million in cash on hand on September 30.

Ohio Rep. Tim Ryan had about $158,000 left in the bank, and former Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julián Castro —who was on the debate stage Tuesday—had less than $700,000 in available cash. Mr. Castro has said he would drop out of the race if he isn’t in the debate next month, and he hasn’t yet qualified for it.

Author Marianne Williamson, who missed qualifying for Tuesday’s debate, was down to about $725,000.

Montana Gov. Steve Bullock had less than $1.4 million in the bank—a smaller amount than even New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, who quit the presidential race in late August.

Although Biden remains ahead in some polls, Elizabeth Warren appears to be eclipsing him. Some are even calling her the new frontrunner. She certainly has momentum behind her. And she had a strong performance in last night’s Democratic debate in Ohio.

In the meantime, Matt Wolking, The Deputy Director of Communications for the Trump campaign announced that Trump/RNC had a whopping $158 million in cash on hand at the end of the quarter. On Tuesday, Wolking tweeted that “the Trump campaign, authorized joint fundraising committees, and the Republican National Committee (RNC) will report $158 million combined in cash on hand at the end of Q3.” That’s more than the total amount collected by all of the 2020 Democrats.

Elton John Comes Through – Again – and Has a Lot to Say About George W. Bush

Hey, you know that idea that you can’t be friends with someone if you disagree?

Well, its dumb.

Spread the word — there are lots of people who apparently haven’t heard.

For some reason, many folks — I think it’s not wholly wrong to say, mostly from the left side of the aisle — have fancied separating from friends and previously-loved ones who vote differently as some sort of virtue.

It isn’t, of course, and whenever you weaken the fabric of family and community, you weaken the fabric of the country.

And someone who’s aware of that fact is Sir Elton John.

Among the hoopla over Ellen DeGeneres — say it ain’t so — talking and joking with George W. Bush at an NFL game, the “Candle in the Wind” hitmaker had a thing or two to say.

“I admire Ellen for standing up and saying what she said.”

He was referring to her defense — her claim that she and W. are friends, and that’s how it’s s’posed to go.

Speaking to NPR, he Amen’d her message of true tolerance — that is, one that goes both ways.

In case you missed it, here’s Ellen being as right as Sweet Irish Creme in your favorite K cup confection:

Back to Elton, he delivered more of the good goods:

“George Bush has made a lot of mistakes. I made a lot of mistakes. Ellen DeGeneres has made a lot of mistakes. People need to come together.”

As per Fox News, the singer lamented the current state of affairs:

“Unfortunately, what our democracy has become now is that it’s not okay to have different opinions than yours. And that is not healthy.”

He even praised W. for launching the $85 billion 50-country-wide AIDS initiative PEPFAR — the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief.

“PEPFAR came from the Republicans. People have to remember that. … [It’s] the most incredible thing a Republican president has done on a philanthropic level.”

“[People] need to respect people’s views on life,” Elton said.

“Except when it’s heresy, and I don’t think George Bush is that kind of guy.”

I’m thankful for his voice in this, as well as in a lot of other matters where he’s landed on a side some didn’t expect. The man performed at Rush Limbaugh’s wedding, for Pete’s sake.

And I’m grateful for “Goodbye, Yellow Brick Road,” my favorite song of his.

Do you have one?

Let us all know.

Amy McGrath’s Campaign Is Popular With Non-Kentuckians and Chinese Stooges But Not Much Else

The Democrats are throwing a Hail Mary pass in Ketucky to try to unseat Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. As they’ve done so often in recent years, to immunize themselves from completely plausible accusations of anti-Americanism and rank cowardice, they went for someone with “veteran” in their resume. They chose Amy McGrath. McGrath is the quintessential astroturf candidate. She was recruited and funded by California Progressives to run against Representative Andy Barr in Kentucky’s second most liberal congressional district in 2018 and was soundly spanked.

To date, her campaign has been much less than unimpressive. Read:”

Yesterday, fundraising totals from Third Quarter became available and even though they show McConnell and McGrath neck-and-neck in fundraising, it is in the itemized contributions, that is contributions above $200, that shows the degree to which Amy McGrath is the creature of progressive, out-of-state donors and how little traction she has inside of Kentucky.

Just $140,000 of McGrath’s $3.6 million in itemized contributions came from the failed congressional candidate’s home state, while nearly $2 million came from the liberal strongholds of California, New York, and Massachusetts. McGrath was defeated by Kentucky Republican incumbent Andy Barr in her 2018 House campaign and is now running to oust Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.). McGrath failed to mention the word “Kentucky” in her Senate campaign’s launch video and has since portrayed her campaign as a “grassroots movement” despite the dominance of out-of-state cash.

McGrath raised nearly $1 million from the state of California alone, including about $100,000 in contributions from prominent Hollywood liberals. Jeffrey Katzenberg, a prominent movie producer and Barack Obama’s top bundler during the 2012 presidential campaign, and his wife both made $2,800 donations to McGrath’s campaign. Katzenberg, who co-hosted a fundraiser for Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden last week, has been a staunch critic of President Donald Trump.

McGrath also received $5,600 donations—the maximum allowed under federal law—from Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn and his wife; $5,600 from Roth Films founder Joe Roth; $500 from actress Connie Britton; $500 from liberal comedian Rosie O’Donnell; $2,800 from actress Debra Messing, who called for the names of Trump donors to be publicized and compared Trump to Adolf Hitler; $2,800 from Veep executive producer David Mandel; $2,800 donations from billionaire film producer Sidney Kimmel and his wife; and $2,800 from television producer Shonda Rhimes, a major Democratic donor supporting Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris’s (Calif.) campaign.

This map shows where McGrath’s support lies

One of the more interesting donors to McGrath, is NBA coach and stooge for Communist China, Steve Kerr

McGrath’s ties to Kentucky seem more and more like callous opportunism. She has limited support in the state and thinks she can wow! the rubes with her combat veteran schtick. It didn’t work against a fairly easy-going guy in 2018, it certainly isn’t going to work against a knife-fighter like McConnell.
