Nancy Pelosi Runs Away Terrified to Vote on Impeachment

During the debate last night, we got a bit of other news.

There’s been lots of talk of going on record and voting to authorize an impeachment inquiry. This is necessary because without such a vote, what’s going on now is not actually an impeachment inquiry at all.

In that environment, we’ve seen Adam Schiff conduct the most partisan scam of an investigation in modern Congressional history. Not even during Watergate did the majority deny the minority the rights that are currently being denied. During the Clinton impeachment investigation, which was actually voted on, Republicans gave Democrats full subpoena power and the ability to cross-examine every witness. Right now, with the help of a compliant media, Schiff and company are going so far as to even deny access to hearings by Judiciary Committee members, which is the committee impeachment is supposed to run through.

It appears that game is going to continue because Nancy Pelosi is once again running scared from any possible vote.

Of course, they are and the reason is obvious – They have nothing.

The reality of the situation is that we have a transcript that’s already been released, which shows behavior you could argue isn’t proper, but obviously shows nothing impeachable. There was no threat made, no mention of aid, and no pressure applied to investigate Biden. The matter was brought up for what amounted to a few seconds and the President never pushed the issue, even if you think he shouldn’t have mentioned it at all.

What we are left with is Schiff rotating through “witnesses” to testify on their feelings over the matter. But again, we have the transcript. There’s nothing these people can say that changes the words on the page.

Republicans should keep demanding a vote. No doubt the media will keep obfuscating and misleading, but that’s not an excuse to lay back on this. Further, given the behavior of Schiff and the way he’s selectively leaking damaging information, I’m all for Republicans playing the same game. Start putting out there what’s being said. There’s nothing to stop a GOP committee member from reading some of these testimonies into the record publicly. If Democrats aren’t going to play by normal rules and procedures, Republicans shouldn’t either.

Gal Gadot to Produce and Star in Movie About Christian Woman Who Saved Thousands of Jewish Children from Nazis

Continuing to prove to be one of the most stand-up women in Hollywood, Wonder Woman actress Gal Gadot has started up her own production company with her husband and decided their first film will be about a Christian woman who saved thousands of Jewish children from the Nazis.

According to Deadline, Gadot will produce and act the lead in a true story film about Irena Sendler and her efforts to defy the Nazis by saving the lives of others:

Irena Sendler tells the harrowing story of a woman’s defiant stand against Nazi Germany’s occupation of Poland and the incredible network she developed to care for and save 2500 Jewish children from the Warsaw ghetto. Following her arrest by the Gestapo during the height of the war, the drama becomes a race against time to save not only herself but the identities of the hidden thousands who’ll face certain execution. Justine Juel Gillmer will be writing the screenplay. She just wrote another harrowing Holocaust film, Harry Haft. Gillmer has worked in film and television in her native Australia, and has worked on numerous shows in the U.S. including The 100, Into the Badlands, and is now serving as a writer/co-EP on Amazon’s Wheel of Time.

According to Gadot and her husband, their new production company, Pilot Wave, will focus on inspiring stories just like Sendler’s.

“As producers, we want to help bring stories that have inspired us to life,” Gadot and Varsano said. “Pilot Wave will create content that promotes the perspectives and experiences of unique people and produce impactful stories aimed at igniting the imagination.”

Hearing stories like this one would be a breath of fresh air, especially in an age where Hollywood has nothing good to say about Christians or Christianity. It’s likely that Gadot will face more controversy for taking on such a project, but she faces controversy no matter what she undertakes. Many of the hard left already despise her for being a beautiful, pro-Israeli, former soldier.

My hope is that the controversy doesn’t cause her or her production company to pull back on story elements that may give rise to controversy, such as the Christian element to the story.

I have faith in Gadot, however.

About the only thing I looked forward to seeing Tuesday night at the fourth Democratic debate was the scrap between Beto O’Rourke and South Bend, Indiana Mayor Pete Buttigieg.

Beto and Mayor Pete have been needling each other for weeks on the issue of gun control, and specifically O’Rourke’s mandatory gun confiscation plan. Mayor Pete has referred to Beto’s plan as an unattainable “shiny object.” Because of that, O’Rourke has countered that the Mayor, who served in Afghanistan, was “afraid of doing the right thing right now” because he was supposedly more interested in focus groups, consultants, and polls than saving lives.

CNN’s Anderson Cooper, one of last night’s debate moderators, teed up the tense exchange between the two by first asking Beto about how he planned on implementing his plan. After Beto gave a non-committal answer as to what he would do, Cooper then turned to Mayor Pete for his thoughts:

COOPER: Thank you. Mayor Buttigieg, just yesterday, you referred to mandatory buybacks as confiscation and said that Congressman O’Rourke has been picking a fight to try to stay relevant. Your response on guns?

BUTTIGIEG: Look, Congressman, you just made it clear that you don’t know how this is actually going to take weapons off the streets. If you can develop the plan further, I think we can have a debate about it. But we can’t wait. People are dying in the streets right now.

Beto responded by emphatically stating that we can’t wait on gun confiscation, the time is now, and we need to do the right thing, etc. etc. He also added the below comments, which was another swipe at Buttigieg’s courage regarding taking what Democrats would characterize as bold action on gun control:

O’ROURKE: No, let’s decide what we are going to believe in, what we’re going to achieve. And then let’s bring this country together in order to do that. Listening to my fellow Americans, to those moms who demand action, to those students who march for our lives, who, in fact, came up with this extraordinary bold peace plan… that calls for mandatory buybacks, let’s follow their inspiration and lead and not be limited by the polls and the consultants and the focus groups. Let’s do what’s right…”

Buttigieg at long last let him have it:

BUTTIGIEG: The problem isn’t the polls. The problems is the policy. And I don’t need lessons from you on courage, political or personal. Everyone on this stage is determined to get something done. Everyone on this stage recognizes, or at least I thought we did, that the problem is not other Democrats who don’t agree with your particular idea of how to handle this.

Watch:

I’ve said before that I’d be content with them both destroying each other at future campaign stops and debates because they are both pompous, sanctimonious hypocrites on a number of fronts, but Beto really did have that coming to him.

Elizabeth Warren had a Hot Mic Moment during a Post-Debate Interview with CNN’s Jake Tapper

Returning from a commercial break during a post-debate interview on CNN, Elizabeth Warren and Jake Tapper looked amused. When the mic went live, Warren had a playful smile on her face and was heard telling Tapper “I can’t say that.”

Come on Elizabeth. Tell us what you can’t say.

It was nothing that would damage her politically, rather it humanized her.

Stuck in my head is a scene from a video her campaign released shortly after Warren had declared her candidacy. In what was truly an embarrassing moment, Warren was being live-streamed in her kitchen when she decided she’d have a beer. She says, “Hold on a second, I’m gonna get me a beer.” She gets herself a beer and tells her viewers, “I’mma pull up a stool” as she takes a swig.

Reminiscent of a 2008 video showing Hillary Clinton tossing back a shot of whiskey in an Indiana bar, Warren was trying to show that she was “just like everybody else.” The only word that comes to mind is cringeworthy.

So, seeing her in an unguarded moment sharing a light-hearted joke with Tapper softened her. Overall, Warren had a very good night and this moment only helped her.

Tulsi Gabbard Slams CNN at Debate, Exposes the Incredible Incoherence of the Democrat Position On Syria

Westlake Legal Group f1c61773-57dd-4e5a-96c7-3045358f05e5-620x317 Tulsi Gabbard Slams CNN at Debate, Exposes the Incredible Incoherence of the Democrat Position On Syria tulsi gabbard Syria Politics Obama Administration mistake Kurds Joe Biden Islamists Incoherant Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Elizabeth Warren elections Election democrats debate CNN assad Allow Media Exception Al Qaeda 2020

While some on the right can’t stand Tulsi Gabbard because “she’s a Russian agent” and all that hysteria, I actually appreciate that she tries to make coherent, consistent points. Do I agree with her on much of anything she says on policy. No, but there’s something to be said about not talking out of both sides one’s mouth and that’s exactly what we saw on Syria from every candidate on the stage last night minus Gabbard.

Let’s take this clip as an example.

Now, while most will focus on the slam on CNN (and it is nice), I’m much more interested in the separation she puts between herself and the other Democrats. While they all struggled to incoherently explain why they spent years demanding we leave the Middle East but why we now must remain in Syria to fight a NATO ally (a sucky one, but one nonetheless until action is taken), Gabbard at least gets to the heart of the matter.

The war against Assad, just like the war in Libya, was a ridiculous miscalculation. Attempting to change the regime in Syria, while giving warm and fuzzies to those in the foreign policy establishment in Washington, only helped create and exacerbate a humanitarian crisis and setup a situation where we were either going to still have Assad or end up with Al Qaeda aligned Islamists taking power. How is that a choice we had any business sticking our nose in?

Joe Biden tried to lie about his previous position, insisting the war was never about removing Assad. A reporter from The Washington Post said he was “right.” That’s simply not true.

Regime change was the official government policy of the Obama administration for at least the first three years of the civil war in Syria. We all remember the demands for Assad to step down and the saber rattling about how he will go one way or the other. The problem was that by helping propagate that civil war, we fed into a situation that would take the lives of over 500,000 people, including 50,000 children. No one seems to want to own that. Everyone in Washington wants to pretend that it’s not possible for us to have made a bad situation worse, yet that’s exactly what we did.

I’m sure by writing that, I’ll be accused of being an Assad apologist because critical thinking isn’t allowed on much of the right when it comes to foreign policy issues. The reality is that unlike the myriad of neoconservative blue check-marks on Twitter, I actually have family in Syria. This isn’t a matter of ideology for me. It’s a matter of accepting that sometimes there are no perfect solutions and recognizing that we can indeed make matters worse. Minorities in Syria (like my family) feared Islamist rebel groups far more than they feared Assad, who before the outbreak of war was one of the more secular, benign dictators in the region.

Tulsi Gabbard is trying to make a fairly simple point that takes the entirety of what has transpired into account. Perhaps she really does just love Assad, but that’s a weak minded argument to make against her. Her position has at least been consistent. She was against getting involved from the beginning and she’s been shown to be more right than wrong on the matter. The rest of the Democrat field flailing about, now wanting to remain in Syria (and Biden even said he wants a surge last night back into Northern Syria) after initially screaming to get out, shows just how non-thinking most of these people are. At one point last night, Elizabeth Warren argued we should leave troops in Syria and then a few seconds later said she wanted to pull all troops from the Middle East. You make sense of that. We also saw contradictory bantering like this.

I could keep going about the intricacies here (see Mike Ford’s explainers for more information), but I’m certain everyone is so set in stone on this issue that it’ll make little difference. What I will say is this. The smartest among us are often the dumbest. Just because someone has “expert” on their chyron does not mean they actually know what they are talking about. The United States miscalucated on Libya and Syria. That’s the point Gabbard has been consistently making, even when the rest of her party was cheer-leading those interventions. That may not matter to the talking head sitting in an MSNBC studio today, but it should matter to the rest of us, and whether you agree with Gabbard or not, at least be intellectually honest enough to admit that the war in Syria didn’t start in 2017.

V.P. Mike Pence Tells House Committees No Thanks on Impeachment Inquiry

You just know that when the Veep told the House committee people he would not cooperate he was really nice about it also.

Late Tuesday night, the Vice President of the United States, through counsel, informed the House committees that are scrounging around doing impeachment-like things that he would not play along.

According to Axios

The counsel for Vice President Mike Pence sent a letter to the chairmen of the House committees investigating President Trump and Ukraine on Tuesday informing them that he will not cooperate with a request for documents in their “self-proclaimed” impeachment inquiry.

This was fully expected, so no surprise.

However, the announcement that Nancy Pelosi blinked and will not hold an impeachment vote as of now means that the White House strategy of pressuring the House to hold a formal vote has worked. Pence and other White House officials will not face much pressure until the House holds a vote or they take this to the courts. The courts won’t take this up soon so this is looking like a suave move by the White House.

The Trump administration is still going to have its hands full dealing with other aspects of this Ukraine story but for now, the House vote on Impeachment is tabled and the Vice President of the United States can just hang out and do what V.P’s do.

Which I’m not sure of exactly.

Here is the letter sent on behalf of the Vice President…

Dear Chairmen:

The Office of the Vice President has received the Committees’ Letter to the Vice President, dated October 4, 2019, which requests a wide-ranging scope of documents, some of which are clearly not vice-presidential records, pursuant to a self-proclaimed “impeachment inquiry.” As noted in the October 8, 2019 letter from the White House Counsel to each of you and to Speaker Nancy Pelosi, the purported “impeachment inquiry” has been designed and implemented in a manner that calls into question your commitment to fundamental fairness and due process rights.

The Office of the Vice President recognizes the oversight role of your respective committees in Congress. Please know that if the Committees wish to return to the regular order of legitimate legislative oversight requests, and the Committees have appropriate requests for information solely in the custody of the Office of the Vice President, we are prepared to work with you in a manner consistent with well-established bipartisan constitutional protections and a respect for the separation of powers. Until that time, the Office of the Vice President will continue to reserve all rights and privileges that may apply, including those protecting executive privileges, national security, attorney-client communications, deliberations, and communications among the President, the Vice President, and their advisors.

As detailed in the White House Counsel Letter, the House of Representatives has not authorized any “impeachment inquiry.” Specifically, the operative House rules do not delegate to any committee the authority to conduct an inquiry under the impeachment power of Article I, Section 2 of the Constitution. Instead of being accountable to the American people and casting a vote to authorize what all agree is a substantial constitutional step, you have instead attempted to avoid this fundamental requirement by invoking the Speaker’s announcement of an “official impeachment inquiry” at a press conference? Never before in history has the Speaker of the House attempted to launch an “impeachment inquiry” against a President without a majority of the House of Representatives voting to authorize a constitutionally acceptable process.

The Office of the Vice President encourages the Committees to forgo their request to the Office of the Vice President, or hold it in abeyance, pending your discussion with the White House Counsel’s Office concerning compliance with constitutionally mandated procedures. Similarly, the Office of the Vice President encourages the Committees to first seek information from primary sources that may be responsive to your broad requests.

Sincerely,
Matthew E. Morgan

Counsel to the Vice President

Biden Continues to Gaffe ‘Expodentially’ But Reveals the Real Problem With Dem Policy

Joe Biden continued to stumble over his words and have trouble explaining himself during Tuesday’s debate.

At one point, he even created a new word, “expodentially.”

Huh? Not to mention, that there is no proof to support whatever else he seems to be trying to say there, that registration helps reduce criminal use of a gun.

Biden confused a lot of people during another segment when first he said he would cut the capital gains tax, then he said he would double it. He then also spoke about “clipping coupons in the stock market.” See if you can figure out what he’s saying here.

From Washington Examiner:

“Demonizing wealth … I talked about how you get things done. The way to get things done is take a look at the tax code right now. The idea, we have to start rewarding work, not just wealth. I would eliminate the capital gains tax,” Biden said, before immediately changing his tune. “I would raise the capital gains tax to the highest rate of 39.5%. I would double it, because, guess what? Why in God’s name should someone who is clipping coupons in the stock market make, in fact, pay a lower tax rate than someone who in fact is, like I said, who is a school teacher and a firefighter?”

“Clipping coupons in the stock market?” Some tried to interpret it.

But beyond the troubling continuing gaffes, stumbles and incoherence, there’s another problem.

When Democrats actually get around to talking about policy rather than just attacking President Donald Trump, they are so glaringly economically wrong.

They want to punish the wealthy for being wealthy, even Biden as he makes clear here. And yet that punishment, with more capital gains taxes, wealth tax and other taxes will affect all of us, would kill jobs and destroy the economy that the GOP and Trump have smartly cultivated with lower taxes, less regulation, the path that has led to our present economic boon.

That’s a lot of harm they’re promising. Expodentially.

The Sad Reality of Hate Crime Hoaxes

In late September, several news outlets ran the story of Amari Allen, a 12-year-old sixth-grader.  She attends the Immanuel Christian School, a private religious school, in Springfield, Virginia in Fairfax County.  The school is known because Vice President Mike Pence’s wife works there two days a week part-time as an art teacher.  Amari Allen alleged that three boys held her down at recess and cut her hair which was dreadlocks and allegedly said that her hair “was ugly and nappy.”  At first, this would appear to be a case of bullying taken to an extreme.  What made it worse to the media is that Amari Allen is black and the Vice President’s wife works there part-time.

It did not take long for school authorities and the police investigating the incident to find out that the whole hair-cutting incident was a blatant lie.  Surveillance coverage showed no such incident. Almost immediately after the report of the alleged sixth-grade hate crime, the Allen family had hired a lawyer.  The local NAACP chapter had predictably weighed in.

The family then issued an apology to the school and the accused boys.  Allen’s guardians should have been suspicious from the start as the cut dreadlocks were discovered days after the alleged incident while the grandmother was fixing the girl’s hair.

Although the young girl made false accusations and wasted the time and resources of the police and school officials, the head of the school, Stephen Danish, released this ridiculous statement (emphasis mine):

While we are relieved to hear the truth and bring the events of the past few days to a close, we also feel tremendous pain for the victims and the hurt on both sides of this conflict. We recognize that we now enter what will be a long season of healing.  This ordeal has revealed that we as a school family are not immune from the effects of deep racial wounds in our society. We view this incident as an opportunity to be part of a learning and healing process, and we will continue to support the students and families involved.

There were no “victims and (the) hurt on both sides of this conflict.”  There was hurt inflicted on one side by a person on the other side.  Three white boys falsely accused of something that required a police investigation are the only victims here.  Ms. Allen is not a victim.  And how someone falsely accusing someone of what would amount to a hate crime hoax reveals “the effects of deep racial wounds in our society” boggles the mind.

This was a hate crime hoax plain and simple.  NBC’s follow-up coverage of Ms. Allen admitting she lied about the incident received considerably less coverage than the actual lie.  In fact, they linked to a study by some college professor who claimed that hate crime hoaxes are “extremely rare.”  That seems to go against the findings of another professor at Kentucky State University, Wilfred Reilly, who actually compiled data and found that less than 33% of reported hate crimes are legitimate.

However, the list of alleged hate crimes is long and the list of hoaxes or false charges just as long:

  • a gay bar burns down in Chicago against charges of homophobia; the owner is convicted of arson and insurance fraud;
  • black students in Wisconsin report death threats and a noose sent by white students; black students wrote the notes and left the noose;
  • a gay pastor in Texas accuses Whole Foods of selling him a cake with a gay slur; video showed no such thing;
  • signs designating black and white bathrooms in a college in Buffalo are posted; a black student is discovered to have placed them.

These are just a few of the incidents cited by Reilly in his study.  So why do hate crime hoaxes persist?  The answer is that there are people vested in racial animosity in this country- civil rights organizations, the legal profession, and professors in any grievance studies department on college campuses.

The fact that the Allen family hired a lawyer within hours of finding out that Amari Allen had a few dreadlocks missing is telling.  Victimhood is a profitable venture.  Whether through lawsuits, crowdfunding on the Internet, gaining a cooing audience on national television, or a few plaudits from your professors on campus, there is something to be had from these hoaxes.  Convince people of the crime and presidential candidates will seek you out.

Most disturbing is the reaction by people after the hoax is revealed.  In almost all cases this writer knows, the follow-up reaction is identical to the thoughts expressed by Mr. Danish above: the hate crime hoax either opened up an important conversation, or it reveals “the effects of deep racial wounds in our society.”

The fact is there are precious few real hate crimes perpetrated in the United States.  There are lots of reports of hate crimes, but a report and the truth are often two very different things.  So what is a good Leftist to do?  They go shopping for a hate crime.  Reporters like Sabrina Eberly at Rolling Stone created a story that the media fell for wholesale.  If not telling outright lies, the definitions of “racism” and “homophobia” are expanded to include tiny infractions which they label “microaggressions.”

We live in the most tolerant of times when it comes to women, racial groups, and gays.  If anything, we have overcompensated in these areas where lies, slanders, and hoaxes are tolerated because they “open a conversation” or show “racial wounds in society.”  The only conversation should be that the perpetrators are liars and the only perceived racial wounds are just that- false perceptions.

Perhaps the worst aspect of this phenomenon is that it anesthetizes the public when a real hate crime occurs.  If you are the boy (is that a microaggression?) that cries wolf too many times, no one believes you when the real wolf appears.  Perhaps, women, gays, and racial minorities should revisit their Aesop fables.

Or perhaps the victims of a hate crime hoax should fight back financially against their false accusers.  Making the Allen family pay for the police who investigated the alleged crime in Virginia, or Whole Foods suing the gay pastor in Texas for slander, or a college in Wisconsin expelling black students who send themselves racist notes and hang nooses on their own doors may be the answer.

But instead, the targets of these hoaxes signal their virtue and extend the usual platitudes about racial wounds and a needed conversation on “something.”  Instead of fighting back, the real victims in these stories curl into a ball.  But there is an upside.  Perhaps the CIA can hire these liars to run some false flag operations.  They do a great job of fooling the American media.

The race to see who can go the farthest left (and also Tulsi Gabbard) got hot again Tuesday night as CNN and the New York Times co-hosted another Democratic debate.

With the candidate pool dwindling and the need for separation between the candidates increasing, the long knives came out, and strangely enough, everyone was gunning for Elizabeth Warren. Joe Biden was, for the most part, allowed to stand aside and let other candidates attack each other. How did it play out? Here are your winners and losers from the debate.

The Winners: Elizabeth Warren, Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Sanders

Elizabeth Warren, meanwhile, was seemingly everyone’s target. Biden targeted her. Kamala Harris targeted her. Tulsi Gabbard and others seemed to think that she was the candidate to beat during the debate, and so they tried. However, none of the blows really stuck. She also had some help from the producers of the debate, covering for Warren against an attack from Gabbard in particular. Her ability to withstand the attacks helped her image a bit, and she is definitely going to come out at least breaking even here.

Pete Buttigieg stood out more than I think people expected. His shot at Beto O’Rourke knocked the Texas Democrat out. He scrapped with Warren and didn’t come across as foolish as others did. He appears now to be vying for the very base that Joe Biden has, and he looked very good doing it. If Biden falters, right now it’s not difficult to see those voters moving to Buttigieg.

Bernie Sanders was very Bernie Sanders, and that did not hurt him. In fact, a little added sympathy from his heart issues late last week helped him perhaps dodge some attacks from the others on the stage. Nothing really stood out, but like Warren and Biden, “not losing” a debate with their level of support and backing them is as good as a win IF no one else stands out. And… no one did.

The Losers: Joe Biden, Beto O’Rourke, Kamala Harris

Joe Biden was, once again, seemingly left alone for the most part. Up until the end of the debate, he wasn’t really hit too hard, and even after the divisions over Medicare For All, Biden’s record in the Senate and as Vice President, and a rather chauvinist attempt to take credit for Elizabeth Warren’s time as head of the consumer finance agency she touted as a major accomplishment, Biden still stood tall. The problem is that all of this happened to Biden as an afterthought. Everyone was focused on Warren. Everyone was worried about Sanders’ health. Everyone was looking for Buttigieg and others to step up. And no one really cared how well Biden did. That is a bad thing for him.

Beto O’Rourke has a glass jaw, and everyone knows it now. When Pete Buttigieg landed a full-on blow, saying “I don’t need a lesson in courage from you,” it was pretty much over for the furriest Democratic candidate. Beto came off as weak and, when not talking about guns, he frankly appeared to lack the backbone necessary to advocate as equally for his other unconstitutional pursuits. If he doesn’t fold this week, then he’s even more foolish than we knew.

Kamala Harris really seems to think that “We should get Donald Trump banned from Twitter” is the key plank in her platform that will knock Warren out of the lead. She attacked Warren for not joining her in calling on Twitter to ban Trump from the social media site. The attack was so pathetic that you could actually hear the crowd actively not caring. Harris at this point brings nothing to the table that no one else brings and brings better.

Booker is much the same way. His responses to the questions felt flat. The excitement in his voice was shared only by him. No one seems to really think that Booker is that great of a candidate, but he still somehow manages to make the debate stages and completely underwhelm.

The Also-Rans: Andrew Yang, Tulsi Gabbard, Amy Klobuchar, Tom Steyer, Pete Buttigieg

Tom Steyer…

What on God’s green earth is Tom Steyer even doing here? He exists on this debate stage solely to make people wish he didn’t. There is no reason for him here. He’s not even a good distraction from the other candidates. He’s just… there.

The other candidates didn’t do poorly. They just didn’t have a winning performance. For most of these candidates, it’s time to pack up and go home. It’s not happening. Will they listen? Probably not.
