Apple Has Sided With China, Told It’s AppleTV+ Creators to Not Anger China In Their Programming

For a “forward-facing” company, the tech giant has been embracing some pretty backward principles in its obedience to the Chinese government.

Not only has Apple deleted apps such as the Hong Kong police tracker app at the demand of China, but apparently when Apple was developing shows for its AppleTV+ lineup in 2018, show creators were given specific instructions not to anger China when creating their program.

According to BuzzFeed News, Apple wanted to stay in China’s good graces above all:

In early 2018 as development on Apple’s slate of exclusive Apple TV+ programming was underway, the company’s leadership gave guidance to the creators of some of those shows to avoid portraying China in a poor light, BuzzFeed News has learned. Sources in position to know said the instruction was communicated by Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of internet software and services, and Morgan Wandell, its head of international content development. It was part of Apple’s ongoing efforts to remain in China’s good graces after a 2016 incident in which Beijing shut down Apple’s iBooks Store and iTunes Movies six months after they debuted in the country.

BuzzFeed reports that this is hardly uncommon either, noting from one app creator that to have your app removed from Apple’s app store all that has to happen is for Apple to get one phone call from China about it:

“We just get a phone call from Apple and they say ‘We just got a call from the Chinese government’ and five minutes later our app is off the App Store,” one US technology executive told BuzzFeed News. “It’s not a line of communication that would be open to any discussion.”

“They have so much market power in general and they wield that pretty indiscriminately,” the US technology executive said of Apple.

The bottom line here isn’t just that China is wielding power indiscriminately, it’s wielding power indiscriminately within some of our major corporations which we rely on every day. Corporations that primarily deal with our communication, entertainment, and digital tools.

This is a pretty dangerous combination, given that in our technologically advanced age, we deal heavily with these things. If China can directly dictate what our communications companies say and do, then they are dictating us. Whether we like it or not, we also live under Chinese rule.

News is censored, and our entertainment, whether it deals with China or not, has a pro-Chinese bent. What’s more, what happens when China gets it into its head that it can begin reworking scripts to not just stay neutral or harmless to China but to actually create content that promotes it.

Apple has already demonstrated that it’s willing to ask “how high” when China orders it to jump. Who says that it won’t begin demanding programming be more complementary to China.

You have to hand it to these climate protestors: They pull these stunts that they think will bring attention to their cause (they do) and also bring sympathy (they DO NOT) and gain them recruits.

Nope.

A really fun group called Extinction Rebellion has been staging protests in England and specifically around London. Last week, they decided to gum up the airport and try to delay people from getting to and from the terminals to make a point. One individual even decided to climb on top of an airplane to see if he could hold on at around 500 MPH at 33,000 feet.

According to The Guardian

More than 1,100 people have been arrested since the start of Extinction Rebellion’s protests this week in London, including 50 who were detained at City airport on Thursday.

Those arrested at the airport included James Brown, a partially-sighted former Paralympian who climbed on top of a British Airways aircraft, while another man, who boarded a flight to Dublin and stood up to speak about the effects of the climate crisis, was held for failing to comply with the orders of a captain. On Thursday night the Metropolitan police said there had been 1,112 arrests in
connection with the protests across London.

While the bulk of activists failed to penetrate security and get inside airport terminals, as they had hoped, protests were staged at the airport’s Docklands Light Railway station, outside its main entrance and on roads leading to the site.

Personally, I think if they want to climb on top of an airplane for a protest, let them. Have the crew inside the cabin take bets to see how long this Einstein can hold on and then pay off in free drinks to the winner.

Whatever happened to dying for the cause, lads?

Unfortunately, now that Greta Thunberg has lost the Nobel Peace Prize and the Oscar nominations have not yet come out, these protests are likely to continue, being as these folks ACTUALLY think the world is ending in 12 years.

As I pointed out in my article yesterday here at Red State [READ] CLIMATE FLASHBACK: In 1978 Mr. Spock Told Us Another Ice Age Would Be Here By Now, if Mr. Spock got this wrong 40 years ago, you most likely got it wrong also.

Let’s face it — if you really thought the world was ending you would stop paying off your student loans, stop working and probably just hang out at a park drinking booze and coming up with whacky ideas like sitting on top of a plane.

Oh crap.

Nevermind.

Planned Parenthood has Become Embedded in Hollywood to Promote Onscreen Abortions

While claiming to downplay the importance of terminations, PPFA has become an entrenched fixture in entertainment.

There has always been a bond between Hollywood and Planned Parenthood. Abortion is something of a sacrosanct act with the celebrity set out there and there has been no shortage of vocal voices in support of the nation’s biggest abortion server. But now we learn that the alliance has developed into more of a professional partnership.

Meet Caren Spruch, who is an outreach liaison for Planned Parenthood working in conjunction with studios and content creators inside the entertainment industry. Caren’s official title is “Director of Arts and Entertainment Engagement”, which is a high-minded way of describing what is her actual position — Hollywood’s abortion lobbyist.

Spruch began her endeavor years ago with the intention of seeing to it that abortions are not only featured with more regularity but also portrayed in a positive light on screen. During her brief tenure Spruch has encouraged more productions to take on storylines in which characters opt for the choice to terminate their pregnancy, as well as to not have it portrayed as a detrimental process for them to go through.

By her own estimate in the five years since she has taken on this role Spruch says she has ushered through up to 150 instances of abortions shown on screen.

Hollywood has embraced her. When she initially began Spruch was in something of a door-knocking position, seeking out potential properties that could incorporate her desired activity and trying to convince others to include it. She would circulate in places like the Sundance Film Festival to begin developing alliances with actors and others in the industry.

Now she has grown in stature to the degree that she is the one sought out. Not only do writers and producers contact Spruch about details in a plot, for instance, but she is now actively working on screenplays, and serving as a script doctor for abortion-heady scenes. Says one writer-producer in an excitable fashion, “She’s like Planned Parenthood’s secret weapon!”

This of course flies in the face of the tired spin often heard from pro-aborts in the debate. It used to be that they tried to downplay the zeal behind their cause, saying things like no one is happy about getting the procedure, and how it is needed service for some. Nobody celebrates getting their abortion, has been the claim.

But nowadays the organization is looking to the glamour of Hollywood to elevate the status. One other program Spruch worked with is “Shrill”. That 30-minute comedy is written by Lindy West, and an abortion was a central aspect of the pilot episode, which launched the character into a new and improved version of her life. West is also the creator of the activist outfit “Shout Your Abortion”. This is all a decided turn in the language used by pro-abortion members, and there is a reason for this.

Despite all the talk of a Democratic Blue Wave last November there has been a noticeable turn politically in the abortion debate. Recently six states have undertaken tougher abortion legislation, and up to thirty have bills offered or have otherwise explored similar laws. Despite the Democrats taking control of the House what has been quietly overlooked is that during the Obama administration on the state and local levels the GOP experienced significant gains. The electorate has become decidedly conservative, and there is a push for these bills.

The tired argument of “old white males” forcing these laws falls apart under scrutiny. Most of the bills have been written or co-written by female politicians. In fact, in Louisiana its new 6-week abortion law was crafted by a black female in the state house, and signed into law by a Democrat governor.

So there is a need for Planned Parenthood to combat this groundswell of opposition to its pet service. Look at how they may try to claim that abortions amount to only 3% of the services the organization provides, but its actions defy that dismissive statistic. Tens of millions of dollars are poured into political donations to entirely pro-abortion Democrat politicians. Just last week PPFA announced it was sinking $45 million into anti-Trump efforts and its desire to see the Senate flipped to Democrats.

This expenditure, and the growing pressure to have Hollywood glamourize abortion defies logic in claiming it is such a minuscule component of its operations. Clearly Planned Parenthood feels this is an important enough procedure that it has embedded an activist into the studio system, with the hopes of altering the culture to a more approving stance.

Normalizing a procedure that polls continuously show is opposed by the public, and at a time when record lows are recorded of abortions being performed, is the needed effort to remain relevant. Just do not believe them any longer when they try to sell the idea of no one actively celebrating abortion – not when celebrities are marshaled to tout the procedure.

Schiff: We Might Not Need to Have the Whistleblower Testify After All

Westlake Legal Group Screen-Shot-2019-10-14-at-7.52.20-AM Schiff: We Might Not Need to Have the Whistleblower Testify After All whistleblower Ukraine schiff Impeachment farce impeachment Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post democrats Congress Allow Media Exception adam schiff

Screenshot from this video

The goalposts keep changing in the Democrats’ “who needs rules or reality” impeachment probe.

Now, after weeks of screaming about the importance of the Ukraine whistleblower and what he has to say, Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) is saying it “might not be necessary” to have him testify before Congress after all. Notice the “Face the Nation” interviewer, even gives him the set-up question, asking if they really needed to have the whistleblower testify.

First, Schiff claims, falsely, that President Donald Trump made death threats against the whistleblower, that before that they were going to have the whistleblower testify, but now they were reconsidering. So it’s all Trump’s fault, of course.

From Daily Caller:

“Given that we already have the call record, we don’t need the whistleblower who wasn’t on the call to tell us what took place during the call, we have the best evidence of that,” Schiff said on “Face the Nation.” “It may not be necessary to take steps that might reveal the whistleblower’s identity to do that, and we’re going to make sure we protect that whistleblower.”

Oh, really? It couldn’t have anything to do with the fact that the whistleblower’s credibility has completely imploded with the reports that he worked with Joe Biden in the White House or that things he said in his complaint were shown not to be true, such as there being a quid pro quo on the call? Even the whistleblower’s own memo the day after contradicts the complaint on the question of quid pro quo, according to reports.

Notice, how now Schiff tries to diminish the importance of the whistleblower, “he wasn’t even on the call.” How nice of you to notice what we’ve been saying for weeks, why what the whistleblower says is pretty much irrelevant and why this whole effort involving him is ridiculous. Why does what he says matter at all since the people on the call completely refute what he has to say, as does the transcript?

But perhaps the biggest concern that Schiff has with the whistleblower now testifying or being interviewing by Congress is that Schiff’s contacts and those of his staff with the person have now been exposed. Schiff’s not telling the truth about them has been revealed. Indeed, questions are being raised about why the complaint was not filed until many days later, only after contact with Schiff’s committee staff member. If the whistleblower were asked about his contacts with Schiff, it might expose much more.

No wonder Schiff no longer wants the person to have to face possible questions under penalty of perjury.

This might also explain why we hear reports about the whistleblower “testifying in writing.” You can’t “testify” in writing. Testifying implies the ability to cross-examine a witness which you can’t do with a written statement. Such a move without the ability to ask questions would be inherently without due process for the president and the American people.

Schiff continues to falsely cast the call, talking about withholding of military support aid which people on the call including the Ukrainian president already said didn’t happen. He goes on to claim there was a “cover up” to put the call in a secure computer system. But there was classified information on the call since they were reportedly talking about relations with other countries. That is inherently classified. And why would you be upset that things were made more secure, given the leaks of the past? So Democrats have no problem with Hillary Clinton putting everything on a private server to avoid government review and getting rid of 30,000 emails under subpoena but they’re upset with having information held more secure, and completely obtainable by the government if need be?

Does Schiff really think he can sell this to the American people?

Tax Rate for Billionaires Under Bernie Sanders’ New Plan: 97.5%

Westlake Legal Group BernieSanders-620x331 Tax Rate for Billionaires Under Bernie Sanders’ New Plan: 97.5% wealth tax Taxes President Obama Liberal Elitism Joe Biden Gabriel Zucman Front Page Stories Featured Story entitlements Emmanuel Saez Elizabeth Warren elections democrats Bernie Sanders Allow Media Exception 2020

Following their analysis of Bernie Sanders’ new tax plan, University of California, Berkeley professors Emmanuel Saez and Gabriel Zucman concluded that billionaires could face a new effective tax rate of 97.5%.

This figure dwarfs the estimated 62% effective tax rate billionaires would face under Elizabeth Warren’s plan or the 30.6% rate under Joe Biden’s. Currently, this group pays 23%.

(Note (Bloomberg): The calculations by Saez and Zucman cover state, local and federal taxes and also treat health insurance premiums that individuals pay as a tax, arguing that they are one of main drivers of inequality in the U.S.)

Determined to reduce income inequality and “spread the wealth around,” both Sanders’ and Warren’s plans include a wealth tax. Warren’s plan would “place a 2% levy on fortunes over $50 million and a 3% levy on assets over $1 billion. Sanders’ plan goes further, and starts taxing wealth of $32 million at 1%, increasing to an 8% tax on fortunes above $10 billion.”

In an email to Bloomberg, Professor Saez wrote, “With the wealth tax, you get directly at the stock instead of hitting the flow of income, making it a much more powerful de-concentration tool than income taxes.”

Professors Saez and Zucman support large tax increases for the wealthy. They have written a new book in which they argue for higher taxes. The book, entitled “The Triumph of Injustice: How the Rich Dodge Taxes and How to Make Them Pay,” is scheduled to be released on Tuesday. They have set up an interactive website which allows “users to select different tax rates to see how levies on various income groups are increasing.”

Back on the campaign trail following a recent heart attack, Sanders told supporters that his plan would likely cut the number of billionaires in the U.S. in half within 15 years and would generate approximately $4 trillion in additional tax revenue over the next ten years.

Raising taxes on the rich has traditionally been very popular with voters, the majority of whom believe that the wealthy don’t pay enough. The 2020 Democratic presidential candidates have exploited this. They’re trying to outdo each other in terms of how far they’ll go to stick it to the rich. In addition to raising income taxes and adding a wealth tax, some of their plans include a tax on stock and bond trades.

Since the number of billionaires in the U.S. is currently around 600, Democrats will need a lot more revenue than this to pay for all of the new social programs they’ve proposed. And that means they’ll be looking down the economic food chain to make up the difference. Don’t forget that Obama considered a couple earning over $250,000 to be rich. Try telling a New York City cop and his wife who’s a nurse that they’re rich and need to pay their fair share.

I have for the past 4 years been involved in the local political scene here in Fraser, Michigan. For my friends that are dealing with the hustle and bustle on the national or state level that is amusing to them. I will have to admit if the situations were reversed I would probably think the same thing.

However, the mess locally is where the crap rolls uphill and we all wonder how that happened.

Below are the posts that I have done on this subject and where I will post all the future ones so that people that are interested will be able to find these easily. I hope this helps others decide to get involved in some fashion.

Trump Takes Aim At The Deep South’s Last Democrat Governor

Gov. John Bel Edwards talks about the state’s budget and his plans to call a special session for June to try to raise revenue to stave off cuts, on Thursday, May 5, 2016, in Baton Rouge, La. (AP Photo/Melinda Deslatte)

Over the weekend, the last Democrat governor in the deep south was forced into a runoff with a Republican businessman with a lot of money behind him.

Louisiana’s John Bel Edwards was able to capture 47 percent of the vote in Louisiana’s jungle (all-in) primary, and Eddie Rispone came in second place with 27 percent. Republican Congressman Ralph Abraham came in third with 24 percent of the vote.

Rispone’s win was unexpected just a few weeks ago, but a surge of spending on ads that attacked both Edwards and Abraham helped push him into second place. Also helping both him and Abraham was a series of visits from high-profile Trump allies – Mike Pence and Donald Trump Jr. – and a visit Friday night by President Donald Trump himself.

Trump has already come out swinging in his endorsement of Rispone.

I mentioned last week that Trump himself has a lot riding on this gubernatorial election, as it is a good test of how much the impeachment process in Washington D.C. might be affecting his base.

Morning Consult, meanwhile, has President Donald Trump with a +15 net favorability rating, and the lowest number you can find in any poll as far as approval goes is 54%. Among Republicans, his favorability is 94%.

With a gubernatorial race coming up this Saturday, and with every major candidate in the race making their support or relationship with Trump a central issue, it’s becoming a race to watch if you want to see the effect of the all the impeachment talk going on in Washington D.C.

[…]

This type of push, when there are two Republican candidates and a Democrat going into a jungle primary means that Trump isn’t just interested in beating Edwards. He’s using the state’s Republican turnout as a gauge of support for him.

It will hold true, still, and there are more than a few parallels between Trump and Rispone – as the latter has been quick to mention since the race started. Both are businessmen, neither had political experience prior to their campaigns, and both scored huge upsets to put themselves in the spotlight against the top Democrat in their race.

Now, Edwards has a tough race ahead of him, and if he can’t make the race as little about Trump as possible, it will likely be a major part of why he is defeated in November. Edwards will definitely go on the attack against Rispone, but he can’t afford to make any references to Trump because the Republicans appear highly motivated in this state right now – the state’s Senate will see a Republican supermajority and it could very well be matched up with a House supermajority if the runoffs in specific House races fall into Republican hands.

With a motivated Republican base, Edwards will attack but will also have to make it as non-partisan as possible (personal attacks on Rispone’s character have already started bubbling up). He simply can’t allow Trump to dominate the conversation, but Trump in all likelihood will try to continue to stay in the conversation.

Rispone, however, has to compete against Edwards and the state’s Republicans he pissed off when he decided to attack Abraham in the primary – something the state party cautioned any Republican against doing this election. There have been whisperings of Republicans who will stay home rather than vote for Rispone, but he needs Abraham and the other major Republicans in the state to back him up and show he can be a unifier.

And, Rispone will continue to make this race about Trump, because it was clearly successful in the primary. The Republican vote in the primary far outweighed the Democratic vote, and it looks like that enthusiasm is lingering. If the Republicans pull the win off and knock out the last Democrat governor in the Deep South, then Trump can count it as a victory and proof that his support isn’t wavering under the Democrats’ attacks in D.C.

Saturday Night Live used to be funny. But it’s been hit or miss for a long time, with more miss than hit.

They could take a lesson from Greg Gutfeld and Tom Shillue.

It’s too common to parody President Donald Trump.

What you really need is a parody of the man who thinks he can conduct an impeachment without a vote on an inquiry, who thinks he can hold hearings in secret and the American people wouldn’t question it.

You need a parody of Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA).

Now some might say that Schiff himself is a parody of a congress person. And while there is something to be said for that, certainly, perhaps it’s good to have one that amuses us rather than one which infuriates us.

Shillue delivered a masterful impersonation of Schiff, right down to the eyes.

If you need a laugh, here you go.

Yikes, that’s pretty much straight on. Hilariously funny and downright creepy at the same time.

Although next time, Shillue should practice how to parody leaking out of committee meetings to media.

Gutfeld is right amidst the humor.

If Schiff really thinks he can take down a president and change election results because they lost, he’s going to find some very unhappy Americans giving him a very different message come November 2020.

And that’s no joke.
