CNN’s “Equality Town Hall” Gets Beaten in Ratings By Fox Coverage of Trump Rally

Democrats have been doing these forums to showcase the candidates on a variety of issues.

The one on Thursday, fiver hours covered by CNN, was termed the “Equality Town Hall.”

If the reaction to the forum of the ratings is any indication, this isn’t going exactly the way Democrats had hoped it might.

The forum came in dead last. It was beaten out by Fox which came in number one in total viewers as well as the crucial 25-54 demographic. The network was covering mostly President Donald Trump’s rally in Minnesota during that period. Second was MSNBC.

From Townhall:

Fox News was in first place for the entirety of CNN’s nearly five-hour long town hall from 7:30 p.m.-12 a.m. by averaging 3.7 million viewers and 662,000 in the 25-54 demo.

CNN was in last place by having an average of 1.1 million total viewers and 320,000 in the 25-54 demo, meaning Fox News had a triple-digit advantage over CNN.

The forum was interrupted repeatedly by trans activists, including Blossom Brown who interrupted the question of a nine year old child talking about being transgender and chastised CNN for not giving adequate voice to black transwomen.

“Let me tell you something, black transwomen are being killed in this country, and CNN, you have erased black transwomen for the last time. Let me tell you something, black transwomen are dying! Our lives matter! I am an extraordinary black transwoman, and I deserve to be here!” said activist Blossom Brown.

Even after moderator Don Lemon asked for the microphone, Brown continued her rant,”Black trans women are being killed in this country! Black trans women are dying and our lives matter! Not one black trans woman or man has been given the mic tonight.”

There were other moments such as this one with Beto O’Rourke saying that churches, schools and charities should lose their tax exempt status if they didn’t support gay marriage.

Then there was Joe Biden recalling the time of “gay bath houses” and it being about “round the clock sex.”

From NRO:

“Remember, Anderson? Back 15, 20 years ago when we talked about this in San Francisco, it was all about, well, gay bath houses. It was all about round-the-clock sex. Come on, man. Gay couples are more likely to stay together longer than heterosexual couples.”

Let’s not leave out Elizabeth Warren who mocked religious people who might not support gay marriage.

Elizabeth Warren, the other co-frontrunner in the Democratic primary, apologized for opposing taxpayer-funding of sex-change operations for prisoners during her 2012 Senate campaign. One questioner asked Warren what she would say to a religious supporter of hers who opposes same-sex marriage: “A supporter approaches you and says, ‘Senator, I’m old-fashioned and my faith teaches me that marriage is between one man and one woman.’ What is your response?”

“Well, I’m going to assume it’s a guy who said that and I’m going to say, ‘Then just marry one woman. I’m cool with that.’” The audience laughed and applauded. “Assuming you can find one,” she added. Zing!

Remember that question started with the person being a supporter, she assumed his gender. Like as not, he/she wouldn’t be a supporter after being mocked. Way to convince people to your point of view. But folks on the left on social media cheered her response. Warren is now for tax-payer funding for sex change operations for prisoners.

What these forums have shown is how little respect Democrats have for individual rights and different beliefs, and how ready they are to trample them over in the interest of pandering for votes.

Once upon a time, Democrats used to be considered by some to be the party of the worker, desirous of reaching out to middle America. No longer. It’s the Republican Party who’s reaching out to that forgotten worker and to help improve the lives of all Americans, regardless of who they are. That’s what Trump is appealing to as he did again in Minnesota on Thursday.

Uh oh! Californians Learn That Solar Panels Stop Working When Power Is Cut

Westlake Legal Group CA-Wildfires-620x317 Uh oh! Californians Learn That Solar Panels Stop Working When Power Is Cut solar panels in blackouts solar panels PG&E power cuts Front Page Stories Featured Story Energy Allow Media Exception

As part of their efforts to prevent wildfires, California’s electric supplier PG&E shut down power to approximately 800,000 residents and businesses in the northern part of the state last week. The thinking is that dry, windy conditions spark wildfires and if the utility could take large swathes of the power grid offline when those conditions are present, this would prevent fires. The Mercury News reports that in the last couple of years, several major fires have started from “PG&E power lines in the Wine Country and Sierra foothills.”

Many residents did not understand why their solar panels stopped working when the power was cut. It turns out that only solar panels which are installed with a battery backup will keep the lights on.

Bloomberg explains the reason:

Most panels are designed to supply power to the grid — not directly to houses. During the heat of the day, solar systems can crank out more juice than a home can handle. Conversely, they don’t produce power at all at night. So systems are tied into the grid, and the vast majority aren’t working this week as PG&E Corp. cuts power to much of Northern California to prevent wildfires.

The only way for most solar panels to work during a blackout is pairing them with batteries.

Bloomberg reports that the market for batteries has started to take off. Ed Fenster, the Chairman of U.S. rooftop solar company Sunrun, Inc., expects battery sales to explode after the PG&E blackouts.

John Hayward Absolutely Nails the Stakes of 2020, Conservatism, and Donald Trump

As we deal with impeachment fever, the coming election, and the absolute insanity coming from the Democratic party, all these different factors have left gaping holes between most conservatives and the beltway class that claims the same general ideology. Obsessions over decorum vs. results have become the major dividing line. When Trump cussed at his rally the other night, I didn’t even have to open Twitter to know exactly who would rush to virtue signal their disapproval. Other’s simply didn’t care because they see a far more dangerous threat from the Democratic party in 2020 than Trump’s filthy mouth.

The differences seem almost not reconcilable at this point, with some former conservative icons like George Will actively stumping for a Democrat victory. It’s no coincidence that people like Will have the least to lose in that scenario.

That leads me to this thread Mollie Hemingway shared yesterday. It’s written by John Hayward and perfectly captures the angst and thinking behind much of the support for Trump.

I’m going to lay it all out here to digest.

I’ll cut in here to say this is exactly correct. While NE corridor conservatives thumb their noses up at those icky evangelicals (and Christians in general who support Trump), they never stopped to consider the actual realities at play. The “culture wars” are not a new thing and conservatives got their clock cleaned during the Obama years. It’s only gotten worse under Trump, as trans issues and the absolute insanity of the LGBTQ lobby have taken hold.

Christians didn’t vote for Trump and don’t support Trump now because they are hypocrites. They are doing it for self-survival. We just had a 2020 Democrat candidate vow to punish churches who don’t support same-sex marriage. Not only that, everyone in the audience cheered wildly at the idea. Not a single legacy media outlet pushed back, nor did any of the other candidates.

There is never going to be a line. They are never going to stop. That’s why so many saw Trump winning, and by virtue saving the courts, as so important. George Will may not be affected, but millions of Americans feel that weight.

Let’s continue.

Exactly. Conservatism isn’t just a “principle” or ideology. It’s the act of actually trying to conserve something. Any Republican that is actively throwing the game because they suppose it makes them moral or virtuous isn’t conserving anything. Perhaps they can feel some personal good about that, but they also don’t get to obscure the realities of their decisions.

There’s no better evidence for this than how much conservatives have continued to lose the culture wars no matter who is President. The judiciary is the last line of defense. There is no backup plan, no valient media riding in on a white horse to finally sway public opinion in a fair way. So some anti-Trump conservatives can “muh judges” all they want. It’s those judges that will ensure we have even a fighting chance over the next several decades.

Again, the left are not going to stop. It’s just a few years ago that it was considered a conspiracy theory to think Democrats might strip churches of tax exemption over teaches on homosexuality. How’s that worked out? Heck, we’ve went from “we aren’t going to take your guns” to “we support federal confiscation programs” in a matter of months.

The problem is that there are a sizable amount of conservative influencers who’ve grown fat and happy in the Acela Corridor that are perfectly fine with their profession becoming even more niche. They think they can ride the lightening and come out unscathed on the other end. I think they are mistaken.

Look, at this point, what Hayward is saying wont move the needle with these people, but it still needs to be said. If they want to sit on the sidelines, fine. What they don’t get to do is work to get a Democrat elected and then rejoin the party in 2021 as thought leaders. They don’t get to pretend the consequences they are cheering on don’t actually exist. They will have no grounds to complain about anything the left does and as I’ve said now three times, the left are not going to stop.

If a conservative is going to go out on Twitter and wring their hands over that CNN LGTBQ+ whatever town hall last week, then they should be ready to do something to stop it from becoming a reality. If they aren’t, then they aren’t conserving anything. They are just keeping faux religious tenants. We’ve got real religions for that.

Battles don’t wait for you to feel good enough about your own side to fight them.

Kidnapped Whisky, Kowtowing to the Commies, and The Friend Police: Are We Doomed?

Welcome back to my Saturday column in which I take a look back on the news of the week and try to determine- are we doomed?

Let Communism Ring!

As you probably heard, the general manager of NBA’s Houston Rockets supported those fighting for freedom in Hong Kong. The Chinese government, Chinese Basketball Association, and Chinese businesses were upset. It was going to cost the NBA money and, being capitalists who wanted those communist dollars coming in from China, the NBA caved. They’re even censoring fans now as well as the media.

Still, it hasn’t made a lot of difference. Nike, for example, has pulled Houston Rockets merchandise from all stores in China. What happened to this slogan from just about a year ago?

Either they don’t believe in freedom or they’re not really willing to sacrifice much.

Verdict: Yeah, we’re doomed.

I Trusted You, Scotch

If you spend any time at all on the internet you  have, at some point, been faced with the question “if you were to be kidnapped, what would you post on social media to let your followers know you needed help, what would it be?”

I can only assume The Glenlivet has been kidnapped.

There is no other justifiable reason for whisky pods to exist. The Glenlivet Distillery has only been around since 1824, so it’s not even close to being the oldest distillery operating in Scotland,  but they’re hardly a new upstart looking to disrupt the market by getting milennials to shove Tide Pods full of whisky down their gullets. They’re better than that, surely.

Verdict: Full doom. Possibly numbed by whisky, but you’ll have to eat it, so what’s the point?

You Can’t Sit With Us

Last Sunday, Ellen DeGeneres went to a football game and sat with friends.  People were outraged, because Ellen has friends with whom she is not ideologically identical.

Liberals were outraged that she would do such a thing. Conservatives barely thought about it beyond seeing a couple of cute photos floating around the internet and absently thinking it looked like they were having a good time (although we probably knew she was going to get tarred and feathered by her own for it).

Here was Ellen’s reaction to the hate that was tweeted at her for knowing a person with differing opinions.

Yes, that was me at the Cowboys game with George W. Bush.

Yes, that was me at the Cowboys game with George W. Bush over the weekend. Here’s the whole story.

Posted by Ellen DeGeneres on Tuesday, October 8, 2019

Here’s the thing. Conservatives have lots of friends we disagree with. Heck, we don’t even agree with our other conservative friends half the time, and I can’t think of any conservatives who don’t have liberals in their circles. I can think of plenty of liberals who won’t associate with conservatives, or just know one who isn’t like the rest of them (who are, obviously,  terrible).

In short, conservatives are like:

But liberals are like:

Bush Front Page Stories football Featured Story Fatherhood Family ellen degeneres democrats Dad Culture cowboys Conservatives communism China Business & Economy Allow Media Exception

Verdict: On one hand, the people who are supposed to be on her “side” took her to task for not self-segregating and, even after this video, refused to pause and consider that maybe she was right. Many just doubled down. On the other hand, in 2019 it takes courage to sit with people that you know you’re going to get torched for sitting with, then go on television to say that, not only are you not sorry about it, but everybody else needs to check their kindness levels. It makes me think that some people are beyond human reach, but the world itself isn’t doomed yet.

Honoring His True Dad

Check out this college football player who changed his last name to honor the man who raised him.

Verdict: We’re going to be ok.

Here We Go, Rudy Giuliani is Under Investigation for Foreign Lobbying Disclosure Violations

Westlake Legal Group trump-giuliani-AP-620x338 Here We Go, Rudy Giuliani is Under Investigation for Foreign Lobbying Disclosure Violations william barr Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy Lutsenko Rudy Giuliani President Trumo pete sessions Marie Yovanovitch Mainstream Media Lev Parnas john durham Impeachment of President Trump Igor Fruman Front Page Stories Featured Story donald trump democrats corruption Congress Campaigns Barack Obama Allow Media Exception Abuse of Power 2020 Nope, Not Gonna Do It

The New York Times reports that President Trump’s attorney, Rudy Giuliani, is under investigation by federal prosecutors in Manhattan for foreign lobbying disclosure violations. The charges stem from his efforts to investigate former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Hunter Biden, as well as the former U.S. ambassador to Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch, who was recalled in May, two months earlier than scheduled.

U.S. law requires American citizens to disclose to the DOJ “any contacts with the government or media in the United States at the direction or request of foreign politicians or government officials, regardless of whether they pay for the representation.”

Sources told the New York Times that this is related to the Wednesday night arrests (for campaign finance violations) of the two Ukrainian-American men who had allegedly helped facilitate Giuliani’s investigation of the Bidens and Ms. Yovanovitch.

Giuliani has denied wrongdoing. He has openly discussed his efforts to investigate the Bidens’ dealings in Ukraine and Ms. Yovanovitch’s efforts to undermine Trump in her capacity as the U.S. ambassador. He points out that he is the President’s attorney, and he works to defend his client.

When questioned by the Times, Giuliani said, “Look, you can try to contort anything into anything, but if they have any degree of objectivity or fairness, it would be kind of ridiculous to say I was doing it on [former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Yuriy] Lutsenko’s behalf when I was representing the President of the United States.”

Mr. Giuliani also told the Times he was unaware of any investigation into him, and “he defended the pressure campaign on Ukrainians, which he led, as legal and above board.” (This is not a direct quote from Giuliani, it is the Times’ version of what he said to them. I don’t believe Giuliani would characterize his actions as a “pressure campaign” on Ukrainians.)

Giuliani, who led the SDNY throughout much of the 1980s, has now become their target.

The Times’ piece can be viewed here. But, I must caution you, throughout the article, the writers leap to political conclusions that have not yet been established, which is to be expected from this newspaper.

For example, they write, “The associates were charged with funneling illegal contributions to a congressman whose help they sought in removing Ms. Yovanovitch.”

Lev Parnas and Igor Fruman made contributions to multiple candidates and political action committees, one of which was a $20,000 donation to former Rep. Pete Sessions’ (R-TX) 2018 campaign. The Times portrays it as if this was their sole transaction. The men have merely been charged and while help in removing Ms. Yovanovitch may have been the motive behind this contribution, it has not been proven. Until then, it remains an allegation.

Knowing that House Democrats are now exploiting the recall of Ms. Yovanovitch in their impeachment inquiry, the authors have given this subject top billing in their article, when the main focus of Giuliani’s investigation was the Bidens.

They write, “Mr. Lutsenko had sought to relay the information he had collected on Mr. Trump’s targets to American law enforcement agencies and saw Mr. Giuliani as someone who could make that happen.” The inference was that Lutsenko was trying to violate a law by giving this information to the U.S. government.

The real wrongdoing was the measures taken by government officials to prevent the Attorney General from receiving this information. Lutsenko and Shokin had tried on numerous occasions to do so. Ms. Yovanovitch is alleged to have tried to impede their efforts. No one in the Jeff Sessions DOJ would acknowledge this material. Lutsenko and Shokin even hired a retired U.S. attorney to hand deliver it to the current U.S. attorney of the SDNY, Geoffrey Berman. Still, it was not acknowledged.

With the exception of Giuliani, no one has bothered to examine President Trump’s reasons for Ms. Yovanovitch’s removal. Rather, they’ve jumped to the conclusion that she was wrongly recalled from her post to further the President’s personal political goals. She is alleged to have discredited the President abroad, blocked both U.S. and Ukrainian government efforts to investigate the Bidens, and to have presented Lutsenko with a “do not prosecute” list among other things.

In her prepared opening statement for her testimony before House lawmakers on Friday, she said Lutsenko had retracted that accusation. I looked for such a retraction and found only a long, muddled, wildly spun explanation from ABC Go which ended with the following:

Around the same time, Lutsenko indicated in an interview with a Russian-language news outlet that his initial account of Yovanovitch giving him a “do-not-prosecute list” was not accurate.

I wrote about this here.

ABC gives us an approximate time (around the same time), they don’t name the news outlet and they say only that his statement was not accurate. How was it inaccurate? That is not a retraction. And this makes Ms. Yovanovitch’s statement that Lutsenko had retracted his accusation at the very least, misleading, or more likely, false information.

If Lutsenko had truly retracted his statement, we would have heard about it and not from a Russian-language news outlet. The truth is that many officials inside the U.S. Embassy in Kiev were corrupt.

Finally, just as former FBI Director James Comey “served at the pleasure of the President” and could be removed for no reason at all, U.S. ambassadors “serve at the pleasure of the President.” If Trump wanted her removed because he didn’t like the way she looked at him, he could fire her. Yet Democrats are making this part of their impeachment inquiry. One Democrat recently called her ousting a “perversion of U.S. foreign policy.”

Democrats are employing the same tactics they used when they framed Trump for colluding with the Russians. Just as the deep state targeting Roger Stone and others in that investigation, they are now pursuing Rudy Giuliani. Same strategy, new names.

Next Friday, the DOJ Inspector General’s long-delayed report on FISA abuse is due to be released. Finally, Republicans will have some ammunition to fight back. The more comprehensive reports, those from Attorney General William Barr and Prosecutor John Durham, whose investigations have just expanded due to new evidence, may take some time.

What a week in truly finding out where some of the Democrats running for President feel about the separation of Church and State.

The topic of the Beto Bomb that was dropped in a CNN forum has been covered extensively all over the interwebs by others and right here at Red State by Bonchie and Joe Cunningham.

However, something that did not garner much attention was that Sen. Corey Booker from New Jersey essentially said the same thing. He just didn’t go all SPARTACUS about it.

The Catholic News Agency picks it up…

On Thursday night, during and Equality Townhall hosted and broadcast on CNN, Robert Francis O’Rourke, a former congressman, was asked by CNN anchor Don Lemon if he thought that “religious institutions like colleges, churches, charities, should they lose their tax exempt status if they oppose same sex marriage?”

O’Rourke answered “yes,” and after applause and cheers from the crowd, added, “there can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break, for anyone or any institution, any organization in America that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us. And so, as president, we’re going to make that a priority, and we are going to stop those who are infringing upon the human rights of our fellow Americans.”

That’s the part we already know. Here is the part most people have not seen.

Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), another presidential candidate, was asked earlier in the night if he would strip the tax-exempt status of churches who were opposed to same-sex marriage. Booker said that such a move would entail a “long legal battle,” but signaled his sympathy with the idea.

“I’m saying I believe fundamentally that discrimination is discrimination,” he said. “And if you are using your position to try to discriminate others, there must be consequences to that. And I will make sure to hold them accountable using the DOJ or whatever investigatory [body].”

So here we have in the year 2019, two major candidates for President of the United States saying that they want the United States government to FORCE religious institutions to abide by the modern-day #WOKENESS that has gripped the Feelings over Facts crowd.

That should scare you.

Now it is no coincidence that both Beto and Booker are both circling the drain at just around 2% in the latest polling I have read. This is obviously a desperate attempt to shoot up to over 4% and steal the nomination from Biden.

Will it work? No, not for this cycle.

The way these things work though is those two candidates floated an idea and now the top tier candidates will do polling to see if it works with the base. My guess is those churches in the deep south and the mosques in Minnesota will be equally opposed to being singled out for being called bigots and losing any sort of tax-exempt status they have.

The idea though, now having been introduced will be debated among the progressive left and will gain steam. Bernie Sander candidacy in 2016 and this time around has shown that the actual ideas do not matter. Just the feelings that surround those ideas. If it makes you feel warm and fuzzy than roll with it.

We should all be about the discussion of ideas and have vigorous national debates on it. These things usually turn into a discussion on your feelings though and that is just irrelevant and that is just a damn shame.

The only thing left to do for Beto and Booker after agreeing that this horrible idea is worth exploring is to guess which one of these “serious” candidates will be the first to call it quits in their futile race.

My money is on Beto. Anyone who is scared to use their real name that DOESNT work in Hollywood is too timid to be President.

Place your bets.

There have been a lot of championship teams who have visited the White House over the years and they’ve had the privilege of meeting the president.

But the 2019 Little League World Champions, the Eastbank All-Stars, scored a unique honor – they got to ride home on Air Force One with President Donald Trump, according to Fox.

The team, who is from Louisiana, beat Curacao in August to win the championship. They had been invited to the White House in celebration of their achievement. They also got to tour the Capitol with Rep. Steve Scalise (D-LA), the House Minority Whip.

The Eastbank team was at the White House, along with the North Carolina’s Rowan County All-Stars, the 2019 Little League Softball World Series Champions, when Trump invited the Louisiana team to fly back to their home state with him on Air Force One because he was attending a rally there in Lake Charles.

Scalise got a ride home too.

How cool is this?

Something to remember for the rest of their lives.

Something they likely will never forget.

I’m not sure if he meant to admit this or if he’s just so brazen that he doesn’t care. Probably the latter.

Andrew McCabe, who’s currently facing a coming indictment for lying to the FBI (while also moonlighting as a CNN analyst of course), did an interview on his time at the FBI during the Trump-Russia investigation. Along the way, he made a pretty important admission regarding the origins of the probe.

McCabe said the FBI opened its case in late July 2016 based on information about Trump adviser George Papadopoulos.

“We open the case, and then we think, ‘OK, now who are we actually going to investigate?’” McCabe said at the event, which aired Tuesday on C-SPAN.

“Who do we know who is associated with the campaign who has known, significant ties to Russian intelligence?” he asked rhetorically. “We quickly come up with four names that will not surprise you.”

Wait, so they started the investigation without even knowing who they were going to investigate? Why, it’s almost as if they were simply fishing around Trump’s campaign for political reasons.

Seriously though, that’s probably something he shouldn’t be saying out loud, as it confirms what most of us have been saying for years. This entire fiasco started without probable cause under the false pretenses of a counter intelligence investigation, which effectively removed all guardrails on Comey and McCabe. Instead of having a crime or action to go on, they simply started chumming the waters and filling in the blanks as they went.

It’s also no coincidence that three of their first four targets came from the Steele dossier. In this same interview, McCabe sought to defend the document even as it’s been exposed as the dumpster fire that it is.

He also sought to defend Steele and his salacious dossier, which the FBI used to obtain surveillance warrants on Page.

“It is raw source reporting,” McCabe said, “and Steele presented it as such.”

“We knew that Steele was working a number of different sources, some of which has sub-sources, and sub-sub-sources, and he would represent that in the reporting, as any good source should. It didn’t come with his imprimatur of, ‘this is all gospel.’ It was like, ‘this is what I’m hearing,’” said McCabe, who is under Justice Department investigation.

“That’s how good sources report.”

It should scare everyone that this guy was at the highest levels of ensuring national security. “That’s how good sources report?” By funneling abject garbage sourced from Russians that was so ridiculous that it was nearly all debunked the moment it went public? If that’s true then we should just disband the FBI because they suck at their jobs. They treated the Steele dossier as legitimate for months while it took news outlets a few days to tear most of it apart. That’s America’s best and brightest? Or perhaps just most partisan.

This guy needs to be brought down hard. If he walks after all this, justice is truly not blind in this country.

The outrage du jour is over the NBA and a gaming company, Blizzard Entertainment, following the old adage of “money talks and bullsh** walks” and forbidding players or, in the case of the NBA, fans from making any overt gesture of support for the demonstrators in Hong Kong.

I don’t have a particular dog in the geopolitical part of this argument. Hong Kong, since the Brits pulled out in 1997, has been part of Communist China. They may not like it, but there it is and the odds of Beijing just letting it go approaches zero. While I have sympathy for their cause, I don’t have enough sympathy to get Americans killed over it. I’m also doubtful that egging on demonstrators when you have zero intention of doing anything but clucking over the massacre videos streamed into your home is a particularly ethical thing to do (see East Germany 1953 an Hungary 1956 for examples of what that looks like). I certainly don’t fault China for bringing to bear whatever power it has to shut down sympathy for the demonstrators because we, ourselves, are the ones who’ve given them that power and they, like most governments, will act in their own interests.

What I’m sort of at a loss to understand is why I’m supposed to feel outraged by the NBA, a private company, engaging in suppression of speech that it doesn’t like.

For at least three years now, ever since it has become obvious that the large tech companies like Facebook and Twitter and Google were actively suppressing conservative viewpoints and ever since Trump was elected, I’ve been lectured by TrueConservativesWestlake Legal Group 2122 Why Are the Same People Irate About the NBA’s Hong Kong Stance Silent About the Same Thing Happening to Americans twitter Pro-Life Politics North Carolina NBA Hong Kong Google Front Page Stories Featured Story facebook Conservatives Censorship Business & Economy bathroom bill Allow Media Exception and VichyConsWestlake Legal Group 2122 Why Are the Same People Irate About the NBA’s Hong Kong Stance Silent About the Same Thing Happening to Americans twitter Pro-Life Politics North Carolina NBA Hong Kong Google Front Page Stories Featured Story facebook Conservatives Censorship Business & Economy bathroom bill Allow Media Exception (though it is getting increasingly hard to separate the two groups in any meaningful way so great is the overlap in that Venn Diagram) on how “muh private company” can’t engage in censorship and how if I don’t like being suspended from Twitter for suggesting some sloppy fat goober laid off from BuzzFeed learn a useful occupation that I could just start my own social media company and my problems would be solved.

Over and over, conservative viewpoints, whether they are pro-biology, pro-traditional-family, or pro-life are being overtly crushed via demonetization or by having access to their materials deliberately restricted. The most recent example of this is Facebook refusing to let the pro-life group Live Action distribute its videos to followers of its Facebook page because professional pro-aborts who double as “fact checkers” for Politifact didn’t like the content. Twitter has forbidden Live Action from showing ultrasound images of babies in utero.

Back in 2016, when the NBA went to war with the state of North Carolina over the “bathroom bill,” a commonsense measure that ensure adult men were not going to be hanging out in women’s bathrooms, outlets, such as National Review, posted articles like A Conservative Defense of Transgender Rights. Few people on the right said boo about the NBA using its economic power to coerce the government of North Carolina into abandoning its defense of common decency and Western Civilization.

Why is it any more odious for the NBA to follow the money their autocratic impulses and shut down support of the Hong Kong demonstrators in their venues than for it to follow the money and their autocratic impulses and shut down opposition to trans activists in North Carolina? In both cases, the NBA is telling people how to live their lives. In both cases, it is refusing to lend its economic support to political causes that it disagrees with on the merits or perceives to be a financial loser. How is security at an NBA game evicting pro-Hong-Kong protesters any different than YouTube or Facebook or Twitter blocking pro-life or pro-actual-marriage or pro-Second-Amendment information? It really isn’t.

The bottom line is that you either believe corporations, particularly large monopolistic ones, either have an obligation to observe what we, in America, perceive to be basic human rights or you don’t. You don’t get to choose what the cause is. It is binary. If your position is that the difference is the Chinese government calling the tune, does that mean you’d only oppose corporate thuggery if the current administration was behind it? If you are trying to shame the NBA into changing policy, then I’d submit the hundreds of millions of dollars they get from China is going to prove more influential that a lot of media saying meany-pants things. In other words, you’re engaging in nothing more than the most grotesque form of virtue signaling. You could take action, like have Congress outlaw this dumbf***ery, but then you’d just be a poseur with very malleable principles.

So, while I have a great deal of sympathy for the people in Hong Kong, I can’t in good conscience sign onto some kind of selective outrage over a corporation silencing speech it dislikes. When all of you folks who are outraged about the NBA and Hong Kong decide you’re outraged by Facebook and Twitter and Google and you’re ready to go to war with them and the NBA to end this bullsh**, well, give me a call. If you want me to get exercised over something happening in China while telling me that the same exact thing directed at conservative causes taking place in the US (and in Europe) is just the private sector at work, sorry, I don’t want to be bothered. I’ll be clipping my toe nails or taking a dump or doing something else that is actually meaningful.

As a parting note, my colleague Brad Slager discussed this topic on KLRNRadio last night in the second half of the show.
