You might find this filed under the least surprising news of the day.

The current Trump-Ukraine situation is very fluid at the moment, with snippets and assertions being dropped on what seems like an almost hourly basis. As I wrote this morning, Democrats are pushing a set of cherry-picked text messages to try to reinvigorate the idea of a quid pro quo involving a trip to the White House. The goalposts have completely moved from talks of military aid when the “whistle-blower” complaint was first reacted to by Democrats, to more and more tortured allegations.

On the topic of that complaint, a bit of recent news further muddies the waters as we now know one of the reasons why the ICIG noted possible bias on the part of the whistle-blower.

He’s a Democrat.

Now, you might ask yourself why CNN would report this. The answer is simple. It’s called getting ahead of a story to help frame it. We’ve seen this over and over when damaging information that could possibly help Donald Trump is on the verge of being exposed. Instead of letting it drop, legacy news agencies run and get anonymous quotes to try to get the information out there while presenting it in the best possible light.

Remember when there were rumors of intel assets being run against the Trump campaign and then The New York Times wrote a piece admitting it happened, basing it on anonymous FBI sources? That was done so the Times could spin it as justified, which they dutifully tried to do.

The goal here is to get the political affiliation of the whistle-blower out there early so that when more evidence of bias drops, Democrats can claim it’s old news and not relevant to the complaint.

Games are being played here. Don’t be fooled.

The Russia Hoax Was a Classic Russian Dezinformatsiya Operation

The Russia hoax, especially the fake Russia dossier, was a classic dezinformatsiya operation. But – all things considered – by and for whom? Let us first define dezinformatsiya, its purpose, and objectives, as well as provide a historical perspective for good measure.

Nearly 35 years ago, while the Cold War was raging, an excellent book on the subject was written by Richard Shultz, a professor at Tufts and scholar of international security studies, and Roy Godson, professor emeritus at Georgetown and author of books on covert operations and intelligence. The book is entitled, “Dezinformatsia: The Strategy of Soviet Disinformation.” This is an excellent review of the book. And here are some definitions presented:

Soviet leaders use the term “active measures” (activnyye meropriatia) to describe an array of overt and covert techniques for influencing events and behaviors in, and the actions of, foreign countries. Prior to the 1960s, the term dezinformatsia was used in some Soviet circles to describe these instruments. Active measures may entail influencing the policies of another government, undermining confidence in its leaders and institutions, disrupting relations between other nations, and discrediting and weakening governmental and non-governmental opponents. This frequently involves attempts to deceive the target (the governmental and non-governmental elites of mass audiences), and to distort the target’s perception of reality. Active measures may be conducted overtly through officially-sponsored foreign propaganda channels, diplomatic relations, and cultural diplomacy.

Covert political techniques include the use of covert propaganda, oral and written disinformation, agents of influence, clandestine radios, and international front organizations. Covert disinformation is non-attributed or falsely attributed communication, written or oral, containing intentionally false, incomplete, or misleading information (frequently combined with true information), which seeks to deceive, misinform, and/or mislead the target.

The book details historical examples of Soviet active measures and includes interviews of former Soviet intelligence officers, some of whom defected to the West. It is a highly recommended read! Now recall that the world has changed since this book was written in 1984:

  • The Soviet Union was dissolved in 1991.
  • The KGB is now the FSB, and a former KGB officer who well understands the use of active measures is the Russian president (Vladimir Putin). Read about (some of) his career here.
  • The technical means for conducting dezinformatsiya operations have been greatly advanced with the advent of the internet, social media, and the “instantaneous 24-hour news cycle” via a myriad of cable news channels.
  • Oh, and Americans’ collective guard against “Communism” has been effectively dropped partially thanks to overt actions of our own political class. Socialism is now increasingly viewed as “good” by younger Americans who are ignorant of its historical failure.
  • For a time, the Russians were even considered our “friends” by the political class – until it became convenient to turn the Obama regime’s overt friendship with the Russian leadership (recall Hillary’s Russian reset button, and Obama’s promises to Medvedev in 2012) into something quite different in order to advance the Democrat political agenda!

The objectives of Russian (formerly Soviet) disinformation operations have shifted slightly since the fall of the Soviet Union. Previously, the objectives were focused on discrediting US foreign policy, separating the US from her allies (especially NATO), strategic deception, etc. In recent years, with the rise of the internet and social media, Russian disinformation has focused on seeding discontent and turmoil on the US domestic scene, including meddling in and seeking to sow discord during US election campaigns.

With the fall of the Berlin Wall, Russians have had an easier time emigrating to the US, as well as obtaining temporary visas for various reasons. Access to the US mainstream facilitates meddling and deception operations by the FSB and GRU (Russian military intelligence). In addition, the internet enables entities outside the US to access and influence Americans. Facebook, Twitter, and other social media are easily penetrated by Russian operatives, for example. Some of those “Russian bots” that the Left widely complains about on Twitter really are Russians!

It can never be repeated enough that the Russians have meddled in American internal affairs – including elections – for decades! 2016 was neither unique nor an aberration in that regard. The Russians seek to sow discord here CONTINUALLY. There has been an ongoing cyberwar with the Russians for many years. And the Russians have meddled in other countries elections for years, too. By the way, our hands are not clean in that regard, either! Here is a decent historical summary of some of our own actions in that regard.

Let us now look at what the Mueller report stated about “Russian meddling” in the 2016 election, courtesy of AG Barr’s excellent summary before the release of the redacted report. While the Russians did attempt to undermine the 2016 elections through disinformation practices, the special counsel found no underlying evidence of collusion with Russia by anyone in the Trump campaign or any other American. The first effort by the Russians was via the “Internet Research Agency” with strong ties to the Russian government to sow discord among American voters “through disinformation and social media operations” (from the Mueller report). The special counsel brought charges against several entities and Russian individuals for their roles in these schemes. Those charges are still pending and the defendants remain at large. But there was no evidence that anyone in the Trump campaign or any US person coordinated with this IRA operation.

The report also details efforts by Russian military officials associated with the Glavnoje Razvedyvatel’noje Upravlenije (GRU – Russian military intelligence) to hack into and steal information from individuals associated with the Democrat Party and Hillary Clinton’s campaign for the purposes of eventually publicizing these documents. Charges were subsequently brought against several Russian military officers for their suspected roles in these illegal hacking operations. Those charges are still pending and the defendants remain at large. The special counsel found no evidence that anyone in the Trump campaign or any American conspired or coordinated with the Russian government in this hacking activity.

The special counsel also examined Russian efforts to publish stolen emails and documents on the internet. After the Russian government disseminated stolen information to entities that it controlled (DC Leaks and Guccifer 2.0), these entities transferred some information to Wikileaks for publication. Wikileaks then made a series of document dumps. The special counsel also investigated whether anyone in the Trump campaign was involved in these dissemination efforts. Under current law, publication of the material would not be illegal unless the person was also involved in the underlying hacking conspiracy. No person in the Trump campaign was found to have illegally disseminated any of the hacked materials. The special counsel also investigated a number of contacts between Russians and Trump campaign personnel. After reviewing these contacts, the special counsel did not find any evidence of conspiracy to violate US law involving Russian-linked persons and anyone involved with the Trump campaign.

After nearly two years of investigation, thousands of subpoenas, and hundreds of warrants and interviews, the special counsel confirmed that the Russian government sponsored efforts to interfere with the 2016 elections but did not find that the Trump campaign or any Americans colluded in that effort.

In summary, the nation’s attention was diverted foolishly for two years by investigating a load of DEZINFORMATSIYA! There was no “Russian collusion” there from the beginning although there was the standard and regular Russian election meddling. The Russian-run IRA ran a classic disinformation op. It was possibly the most successful such operation in Komitet Gosudarstvennoy Bezopasnosti/ Federal’naya sluzhba bezopasnosti Rossiyskoy Federatsii (KGB/FSB) history – and it is ongoing!

Let us now revisit the dezinformatsiya description from the book I quoted above and prove my point:

1. From the book: Active measures may entail … undermining confidence in its leaders and institutions.

Analysis: A large minority of Americans were CONVINCED by the legacy media and Democrats of the past two years that POTUS is in fact a Putin stooge and a traitor! If that’s not “undermining confidence,” then nothing is.

2. From the book: Active measures may entail … discrediting and weakening governmental and non-governmental opponents (of Russia).

Analysis: What is your opinion of the CIA, DoJ, FBI, State Dept, and other US agencies these days? Answer: thoroughly discredited due to their politicization under Obama. I do not trust them at all – which weakens the institutions as the Russians love to see happen. On the non-governmental side, the legacy media is also completely discredited, and that undermines the US, too (they are, after all, the “fourth estate”). https://medium.com/@ubuntufm/the-fourth-estate-on-the-role-of-journalism-facts-vs-fake-news-61168f8e8cf

3. From the book: These measures involve attempts to deceive the target and to distort the target’s perception of reality.

Analysis: Elected Democrats, Uniparty RINOs and the legacy media swallowed the Russian hoax hook, line and sinker. Much of the information in the fake Russian dossier was supplied from Russian sources (probably GRU officers!). And many of these people STILL have no understanding of reality and are willingly perpetuating the disinformation while trying to orchestrate an impeachment of the president!

4. From the book: Active measures may be conducted overtly through officially-sponsored foreign propaganda channels, diplomatic relations, and cultural diplomacy.

Analysis: The Russians have sown discord about the “muh Russia hoax” through their controlled media like Russia Times and even public statements by Vladimir Putin over the past couple of years. And Western media have picked up and repeated the disinformation whenever it furthered the anti-Trump narrative.

5. From the book: Covert political techniques include the use of covert propaganda, oral and written disinformation, agents of influence, clandestine radios, and international front organizations.

Analysis: The IRA (admittedly a bit player) plus the GRU meddling was the epitome of covert political techniques employed to meddle. And we never did hear what Nellie Ohr used that ham radio for, did we? Plus, there were plenty of “agents of influence” at work in the US media to further the hoax narrative.

6. From the book: Covert disinformation is non-attributed or falsely attributed communication, written or oral, containing intentionally false, incomplete, or misleading information (frequently combined with true information), which seeks to deceive, misinform, and/or mislead the target.

Analysis: Good grief! That is a perfect description of the FBI’s use of the fake Russian dossier that was seeded to trusted legacy media people and then referenced as open source reporting as a justification for illegally obtaining FISA warrants against Trump campaign personnel. And some elements of the Russian dossier were likely sourced from Russia to begin with. Repeat after me: that’s dezinformatsiya!

Here we are today, long after the redacted Mueller report has been released. The disinformation initiated and leveraged by the Russians is still in play, as it was co-opted by Democrats and their paid media allies for political expediency purposes. Democrats like Hillary Clinton continue to caterwaul that President Trump “stole the 2016 election” with the help of Russia. As if $160,000 worth of Facebook ads and some random disinformation planted by a handful of GRU agents could sway an American election! I would wager that Vladimir Putin and some of his senior FSB leadership pals are regularly toasting their success with vodka shooters! They – with the help of witting and unwitting allies and agents of influence in the Democrat Party and legacy media – have perpetrated the most successful Russian dezinformatsiya operation in history!

Will Democrats and their paid legacy media accomplices ever acknowledge that they were hoodwinked and cruelly used (in some cases willingly)? Will they ever put a stop to this disinformation op? Of course not, as their donor base and rank-and-file Democrats are convinced the hoax is real. That most of them probably won’t is a clear example of the potentially powerful psychological impact of Russian disinformation operations! The big lie is a key element of disinformation; when the lie/disinformation takes root, it is very difficult to expunge.

The bottom line is that Democrats have enabled and abetted this particular dezinformatsiya operation because they thought they could capitalize on it and destroy the Trump presidency – as well as the President himself and his family in the process – for daring to defeat the Deep State-anointed Hillary Clinton. It was a close-run thing!

The end.

There’s a Reason Everyone Thought the “Eat the Babies” Woman at AOC’s Town Hall Was Real

Westlake Legal Group Untitled-2-1-620x342 There’s a Reason Everyone Thought the “Eat the Babies” Woman at AOC’s Town Hall Was Real Sensationalism Satire Politics Poe's Law hoax Front Page Stories Featured Story environment eat babies democrats Climate Change Climate AOC Allow Media Exception Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Alarmism Activism

Have you ever heard of “Poe’s Law?”

It’s when someone is doing satire or parodying a subject, but despite the fact that you set out to exaggerate something using comedy, people actually believe the thing you’re doing is real.

If you need an example, then I present to you the recent hoax of the woman shouting that we should start eating babies while at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s town hall. As my colleague, Nick Aramas highlighted, while discussing climate change a seemingly disturbed woman stood up and began panicking about how we only have a few months left to live and that we need to start eating babies.

If I’m being honest, I think AOC handled this moment well and didn’t give this seemingly disturbed woman a chance to lose it even further by doing anything that may incite a reaction.

That said…

It turned out that this woman was part of a hoax brought on by an activist group, who openly admitted that they planted that woman there as a walking-talking satirical take on an AOC supporter.

I’ll leave the arguments about the merits of this move to everyone else, but I feel there’s a very important tidbit that we shouldn’t overlook.

The reason everyone believed this woman was real and that Poe’s Law came into effect here, is because Ocasio-Cortez is drenched in this brand of extremism and her solutions to the end-of-the-world scenario she’s painted for us are so off the map when it comes to realism that someone suggesting we start eating babies to stop the coming apocalypse doesn’t sound that far from her camp.

AOC may have seemed measured in her response to this woman, but rest assured there’s nothing measured about her “solutions,” and that’s why people bought it.

Remember, this is the woman who is promoting the idea that it’s all over in 12 years and that the only solution is to restructure the United States from the ground up with her Green New Deal. This includes high-speed rail spanning the length of America, an end to air travel and personal vehicles, knocking down everything that can’t be retrofitted with renewable energy tools, and lowering the cow population (one of our primary food sources) drastically.

If you look at the Green New Deal, restructuring the landscape aside, it also restructures our economy into a socialist one! Go figure!

Just a reminder that socialism has failed everywhere it’s been tried. Yes, even in Scandanavian countries where the left likes to say it works.

Let’s also remember that very real activists have suggested some very weird things from very mainstream media outlets when it comes to how we deal with climate change. Recently, we had activists saying that we should start eating insects to fight climate change because insect farming produces far fewer emissions than farm animals. We’ve had the suggestion floated that we need to get rid of our pets because they’re bad for the environment.

We’ve definitely seen suggestions for population control to fight climate change, and that suggestion came from Al Gore himself. Bill Nye suggested putting people in jail who deny his take on climate change.

That someone would walk into an AOC town hall and suggest we start eating babies doesn’t sound that unbelievable. While it may be a hoax, the fact that it seemed plausible to everyone that it was real should probably say more about the subject of the satirical hit than the hoax itself.

Climate change activists are so crazy about it that they come off as religious zealots. They truly believe we’re all going to die sooner than later and are willing to go to great lengths to “fix” this “problem.” This fake didn’t seem fake because many people thought it was only a matter of time before someone went that insane.

If you don’t believe people would go to said extremes, I’ll remind you that rhetoric like Bernie Sanders about income inequality inspired a man to go and shoot up a baseball field full of elected Republican officials.

Sensationalists fueling this climate alarmism, like AOC, could definitely inspire that level of crazy.

BIG UPDATE: Adam Schiff’s Narrative on Those Cherry-Picked Text Messages Just Got Blown Up

Adam Schiff by Gage Skidmore, licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0/Original

Well, that didn’t take long. It’s been what? 12 hours?

As I shared this morning, Adam Schiff and company released several pages of cherry-picked text conversations late last night which revolved around Ukraine and whether Trump had offered a quid pro quo in exchange for an investigation into Biden. My take was that some of the texts raise questions, but that the selective nature of them makes me very suspicious that we weren’t getting the whole story. My final response was that I’m simply not going to play this game.

Looks like holding off judgement was the right call.

The only supposedly “damning” parts of the text messages involved a man named Bill Taylor insinuating there was a quid pro quo, after which the U.S. Ambassador to the EU corrected his notion. But the line from the media and blue checkmark Twitter was that Taylor was saying what he said because he had actual information of an offered quid pro quo.

Now, it appears that’s not true. Instead, Taylor had read a Politico article well after everything had transpired. Who happened to have contributed to that article? If you guessed Fusion GPS mouthpiece Natasha Bertrand, congrats (if you guessed Ken Dilanian, you were close at least).

This Bill Taylor guy had read something in Politico, written by a collusion truther, and took it as gospel. He then approached some of his superiors with it in these text messages but was shut down unequivocally (click here to see that text message).

Unbelievable. Adam Schiff is as slimy as they come. He put these text messages out there late last night, knowing no one would be available to rebut them right away, all the while knowing Volker had already disproven the narrative he wanted to push. And like good lackeys, the media ran with it and are still running with it.

This is exactly why Schiff and Democrats do not want to release Volker’s full testimony and it’s exactly why I was originally skeptical.

Anti-Christian Bigots File Complaint Against Judge Over Amber Guyger Sentencing Hearing

On Wednesday, former Dallas police officer Amber Guyger was sentenced to ten years in prison for the rather senseless and inexplicable killing of an unarmed stranger in the stranger’s own apartment. While SJWs were baying for blood outside the courtroom and giving America a master class in what kind of a sh**hole we’d be living in if they ever came to power

.mcclatchy-embed{position:relative;padding:40px 0 56.25%;height:0;overflow:hidden;max-width:100%}.mcclatchy-embed iframe{position:absolute;top:0;left:0;width:100%;height:100%}

Inside the courtroom, faith in our common humanity and in justice and possibly redemption were being strengthened.

First, Brandt Jean, the brother of the dead man, Botham Jean, asked for permission to hug Guyger.

How would you top an emotional moment like that? Judge Tammy Kemp, left the bench and gave Guyger her personal Bible:

After stepping off the bench to comfort the Jean family, the judge walked over to Guyger, still at the defense table. She bent low and spoke in the young woman’s ear. “You understand?” the judge said, barely audible.

The judge appeared to be overcome in the moment, and left the courtroom. She returned a moment later, a small Bible in her hand.

“You can have mine,” the judge said to Guyger. “I have three or four at home.”

She then began to counsel Guyger. The pair were talking low, barely audible, just the two of them. “This is your job,” the judge said, opening the book.

The judge mentioned John 3:16, saying this will strengthen her. Guyger nodded her head.

“You just need a tiny mustard seed of faith,” the judge said. “You start with this.”

And how could you top this moment? Well, if you are the bigots of the Freedom From Religion Foundation, you’d file a judicial misconduct complaint against Judge Kemp.

According the the FFR press release crowing about their bigotry:

Government employees may not use the power and privilege of their offices to preach their personal religious beliefs, FFRF Co-Presidents Annie Laurie Gaylor and Dan Barker point out in a letter to the commission.

“It violates the constitutional separation between state and church for a sitting judge to promote personal religious beliefs while acting in her official capacity,” the letter reads. “She was in a government courtroom, dressed in a judicial robe, with all of the imprimatur of the state, including armed law enforcement officers, preaching to someone who was quite literally a captive audience. Delivering bibles, bible studies and personal witness as a judge is an abuse of power.”

FFRF notes that Kemp appears to have generally handled a difficult and widely publicized trial with grace and aplomb, but that her decision to preach the bible to a criminal defendant was a serious First Amendment violation and signaled to everyone watching that she is partial to Christian notions of forgiveness.

“We believe that our criminal justice system needs more compassion from judges and prosecutors, but here compassion crossed the line into coercion,” comment Gaylor and Barker. “And there can be few relationships more coercive than a sentencing judge in a criminal trial and a citizen accused and convicted of a crime.”

FFRF asks that the commission investigate these actions and educate Kemp on her obligation to remain neutral on matters of religion to prevent future misconduct.

This is just a fund raising ploy by these goobers. This complaint is going nowhere. There is no violation of the law or of judicial ethics. To buy into this nonsense would be to accept that Judge Kemp’s own First Amendment rights are voided by her being on the bench. No sane person could view any part of this as coercive, you certainly can’t say Judge Kemp handled the situation “with grace and aplomb” and turn around and accuse her of some egregious violation of her judicial oath.

It is difficult to see how this stunt works out well for these clowns and very easy to see how it will come back to haunt them repeatedly in the future.

Calvin Scovel appear before a Senate Transportation subcommittee hearing on commercial airline safety, on Capitol Hill, Wednesday, 3/27/19, in Washington. (AP Photo/Andrew Harnik)

Sen. Ted Cruz appeared on Fox News last week two days after the White House authorized the release of the Trump/Zelensky phone call transcript, and three days after House Speaker Nancy Pelosi publicly declared an impeachment inquiry would soon be underway.

Naturally, the focus of Cruz’s interview was on whether or not he felt there was quid pro quo on the call and if he believed President Trump committed any impeachable offenses on the call.

Here’s what Cruz said:

“Washington is always a circus, but this is three rings with all the clowns and it’s nuts right now.” Cruz also had a hilarious analogy describing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, pushed by leftists in her party, announcing Democrats would pursue impeachment proceedings. Cruz quipped, “Watching her, it almost reminded me of a hostage video; she was blinking SOS.”
[…]
“And it’s driven at the end of the day — Congressional Democrats are angry. They’re angry about the 2016 election and ultimately they’re angry at the voters. They’re angry that the voters elected President Trump. All of this, from day one, from day one they have been wanting to get this president out of office, and as a result they’re not doing the job.”

Cruz’s comments didn’t sit well with the Never Trumpers at the Bulwark, including editor-at-large Bill Kristol. He tweeted out a link to a recent Bulwark piece with a quote critical about how Cruz had decided after just two weeks that the impeachment push was a “circus” even though in the past he (allegedly) was not so quick to dismiss the idea when it came to impeaching President Obama:

Cruz saw Kristol’s tweet and leveled him, noting that House Democrats had a history of showing support for impeaching Trump over non-impeachable offenses, like they did in response to his criticism of The Squad from over the summer:

Kristol, of course, didn’t respond.

Here are some inconvenient facts for Never Trumpers:

Democrats (and the mainstream media) have been laser-focused on impeaching Trump since well-before he was even elected. They ramped up the talk before he was even inaugurated, and Rep. Maxine Waters made the call for impeachment official during the Trump presidency barely two weeks after he’d taken office.

The impeachment efforts against Trump have been sham efforts at ousting him from the Oval Office because of political disagreements and because he disrupted what was to be the coronation of Queen Hillary in 2016.

Cruz is right to be skeptical right off of any efforts Democrats put forth to impeach Trump, no matter what kind of whataboutism games Kristol and the rest of the crew at Bulwark decide to play on any given day.

(AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) held a town hall in her district last night and it turned into one for the books. Not because of any policy that she was trying to push but because of the reaction of one of the members of the audience.

A woman stood up and began decrying climate change, saying we only had a few months left, and that Ocasio-Cortez wasn’t moving fast enough. Then it really went over the slide. Have a listen as she demands that in order to stop the CO2 we have to “eat the babies.”

Now we were really hoping someone was not that ill. The delivery and “even if we bomb Russia” would suggest that. She even had an “eat the babies” shirt. And this morning, the LaRouche group is saying she was a troll, part of their group.

But the problem, of course, is that there is so much extremism when it comes to the climate change cult, one can never be completely sure. We’ve seen kids freaking out and crying desperately because they think the world is going to die in 18 months, 3 years or 12 years depending on whatever line it is they’ve been sold.

People like Ocasio-Cortez have stoked such fears with their extreme and false rhetoric.

So did AOC take any responsibility for the freak-out during her town hall? For cultivating a climate of crazy reactions? No.

While she does say we do have “more than a few months,” she really doesn’t do more than that. She doesn’t say no, we don’t need to eat the babies.

But she did go all-in on Twitter, blaming folks on the right for their reactions to the woman’s remarks and using the woman’s response as an excuse to push Medicare for all.

Twitchy picked up some of the pushback to Ocasio-Cortez.

Because the problem is no matter the story with this woman, Ocasio-Cortez and her ilk are fanning the flames of hysteria about climate change and a bunch of other things they paint as existential threats to gain more government control over us.

And that’s no joke.

The Wall Street Journal reports that Hunter Biden failed the drug test last year and was discharged in February. In a statement issued Thursday, Oct. 16, Biden doesn’t say why he was discharged. He says he’s embarrassed that his actions led to his discharge and that he respects the Navy’s decision. The vice president’s office declined to comment.(AP Photo/Nick Wass, File)

It’s been a tough week for Joe Biden. What started out as a cheap, premeditated political hit on President Trump has morphed into a situation that may very well doom Biden’s bid for the Democrat nomination. Joe Biden, to all appearances, bullied a nation in need of US aid into firing a prosecutor who was nipping at the heels of his son, Hunter Biden. The central problem is that he explanation is tortured and impossible to credit, absent large quantities of alcohol or a lobotomy. On the other hand, the allegation is as old as mankind. A powerful man has a shiftless, grifting, ne’er-do-well son who he dotes on and protects. The son profits. The father risks his own reputation to keep the favored offspring out of trouble. The story rarely ends well.

A lot of people on the left really aren’t bright enough to understand the antipathy the average American feels about powerful people putting their nitwit gits in the way of wealth and keeping them out of prison when anyone else would be doing hard time. Nate Silver is a great example.

‘Splain to me exactly what the fundraising appeal is. Something like this?

“Hi, I’m Joe Biden. I helped my cokehead, philandering son get a $1.5 billion investment from Communist China. I got him a seat on the board of directors of a company in an industry he knows nothing about in a country whose language he does not speak that earned him $600,000 per year. And when those bastards threatened to investigate him, I gave them six hours to fire the whole bunch. And the did. That’s because, just like you, I believe in family. So please send me money so I can continue to do God’s work in helping my family.”

It seems that Joe Biden is heeding that advice, he vows to make Hunter Biden a part of his campaign

“I think it’s the beginning not the end,” Biden said about what he anticipates will be more attacks against his family.

“I’m also confident the American people know me, and they know my son.”

Biden said his son will be a visible part of the campaign.

“He’s a fine man. He’s been through hell.”

It may be the only solution that he has. I suppose Biden loyalists (whatever the hell they look like because every sane person knows that Biden’s only selling points are a) electability and b) “it’s my turn”) will get all weepy over Biden sticking up for his boy but every time he walks on stage with Hunter Biden there, the only thought in the mind of most folks will be his corruption and lack of moral character.

Unsolicited Advice: You Don’t Have to Be Invisible If You Don’t Want to Be

Welcome to Unsolicited Advice, the weekly column in which I give advice to people who never asked for it and don’t know who I am.

Last week, I assured a nervous wedding guest that it was indeed just fine to accept an invitation to a wedding held at a southern plantation venue. This week, we roll up our pant legs and stick our toes into the steaming, gooey pile of trash that is Twitter, where a well-known (not well enough, according to her complaint) feminist writer has been left utterly shooken after a terrifying encounter in New York City.

It was followed by a litany of responses confirming the “invisibility” of women in every day life.

I get that it’s Twitter and that’s what Twitter is for…bitching. But this is Unsolicited Advice and that’s what this is for – giving advice where none is wanted.

This idea that American women are an invisible minority is ridiculous. Is there sexism? Yes. Are we invisible?

Hell, don’t I wish some of us were.

Everywhere I look, there is some strong, empowered woman in my face telling me what a strong and empowered woman she is while performing some task traditionally associated with a man. My commercials, my movies, my tv shows, my internet ads, every female-related hashtag on Twitter…they all scream at me all day long about STRONG AND EMPOWERED WOMEN BECAUSE WOMEN ARE STRONG. AND EMPOWERED WHEN THEY TALK NONSTOP ABOUT HOW STRONG THEY ARE!

Jessica, women like you hold lucrative positions in which you are paid to gripe all day long about how no one will recognize how STRONG AND EMPOWERED you are. There is an entire grievance industry centered around women and how to prove to America that we are STRONG AND EMPOWERED. It employs thousands, if not millions of people.

Everywhere I look, I see women. I’ve celebrated one of the most truly strong and empowered women in American history in my short film about Harriet Tubman, so I do love me some strong women. But even I have to say I’m getting fatigued. There is a such a glut of “girl power” marketing right now that I find myself longing to just see…”girl”. Don’t girls wear dresses and play with dolls anymore? I’m sitting here watching tv and by the looks of every single commercial I’ve seen so far, it doesn’t seem like it.

We’re admonished daily to support more women in STEM fields, install breast feeding stations at work, get rid of taxes on tampons. We’re lectured about “wage gaps” and abortion and STAY OUT OF MY VAGINA. The list of objections to how women are seen in American society is endless.

Women these days hold very public and powerful positions. There are more women running for president now than ever in history. The idea that we are invisible is laughable. I understand you’re trying to make a point, but the very fact that you’re making it as an accomplished feminist writer in one of the most elite and expensive cities on the continent sort of makes your point moot.

I’m sorry that the man you and your husband were talking to made you feel badly, but maybe it wasn’t that he didn’t see you. Did you stop to consider that maybe he just didn’t like you? If your tweet history is any indication, you aren’t exactly a laugh riot. Maybe he just thought you were a jerk.

I don’t mean to suggest that men never ignore women. But when women are so cranky that they’ll take to Twitter to rage about a man not looking at them the right way can you blame some men for just choosing not to look at all?

Maybe he was a jerk. Maybe he liked your husband better. Maybe if you meet an asshole in the morning, you’ve met an asshole in the morning, but if you meet assholes all day, you’re the asshole. Maybe if you want a man to speak to you, you should speak to him.

I’ve had it with this modern feminist attitude that we women must not only announce ourselves where ever we go but also be noticed where ever we go. STRONG AND EMPOWERED WOMEN demand to be seen. Strong and powerful women are comfortable in their skin whether they are “seen” or not, and that typically makes people very aware of them in the first place. By the way, did you ever consider there might be some advantages to being invisible? You aren’t, Jessica. You are very, very, extremely, tiresomely visible. In case you want to switch it up sometime, think about what you could get done if no one noticed you.

If you don’t want to be invisible, don’t be. Speak up. Make eye contact. Smile (people like it when you smile at them). If the man in front of you isn’t giving you the respect you think you deserve…so? Only people who don’t respect themselves think it is everyone else’s job to validate their worth.

Look, I don’t mind that you’re aggravated. I hate it when people assume I’m a Democrat just because I’m Black. It’s annoying. I get it. It doesn’t have to ruin your day and it doesn’t have to take up a full page in your Angry Feminist scrapbook. What bothers me most about this is the sense of entitlement and the suggestion that you are helpless against the mean old men who won’t look at you.

Be someone people want to look in the eye. If and when you become that person, you will no longer need people to look you in the eye.

Watch: Dan Crenshaw Wrecks the Left’s “Income Inequality” Narrative

During a House Committee on the Budget hearing titled “Solutions to Rising Economic Inequality,” Rep. Dan Crenshaw totaled the idea that income inequality is not only a worsening problem in our society, he destroyed the idea that it’s a problem at all.

Speaking to Romesh Ponnuru of the American Enterprise Institute, Crenshaw started off by pointing out the two different ways we tend to look at financial prosperity, opportunities, and the economy which are usually defined by the left and the right’s views on wealth:

So, on the one hand, you have a deep and persistent focus on inequality – it’s defined as the gap between the rich and the poor – and at first glance, that seems pretty reasonable. But in reality, it means you’re dividing your attention. Half your attention is focused on protesting the wealthy – and these days that seems actually where most of the attention is – and that leaves only a small amount of focus on the real issue, which is people in poverty and their ability to move up the economic ladder. This is the kind of backwards thinking that leads to ideas like Andrew Yang’s, where we raise taxes on the rich only to give it right back to them in the form of universal basic income. It’s hard to imagine a more inefficient and ineffective way to reduce poverty.

As a conservative, our approach is different. Instead of creating resentment against success, we focus on who actually needs our help, which is the people who are having trouble moving up the economic ladder. After all, the fact that there’s a much wealthier person down the street from you is not the problem.

Crenshaw then asked Ponnuru whether or not income inequality is worse than ever, especially given all the welfare benefits and inflation. Ponnuru let everyone in the room know that we’ve actually never looked better economically:

No, it does not appear to be true. The Congressional Budget Office’s reports on the distribution of income suggest that income inequality peaked in 2007, that it has been falling since then, and so, we are, I think to some extent, looking at a problem in the rearview mirror. Of course that could change. Maybe next year’s numbers will be different, but the trends over the last decade or so have been toward shrinking inequality.

Crenshaw later dropped some statistics that back up the claim that Americans are more economically prosperous than the left lets on.

“It also turns out that 56% of Americans will at some point in their lives be in the top 10% of earners. 73% of Americans will be in the top 20% of earners in their lifetime. It’s an amazing statistic,” said Crenshaw.

Crenshaw pointed out that this means that the left is right, and the middle class is shrinking, but not because people are becoming impoverished, it’s because they’re moving up in the income brackets. Therefore, the narrative that income inequality is worse than ever is actually wildly inaccurate.

“This is all good news – doesn’t mean we can’t improve – the point is that the rhetoric about inequality is not only inaccurate, but it’s just flat-out unhelpful to the people we are actually trying to help,” said Crenshaw.

Crenshaw’s point was clear. The left gets too preoccupied with income inequality to the point where they actually set up roadblocks for people to become wealthy, or even come up with inane solutions that only make the problem worse like “universal basic income.”

They are effectively relying on socialism, which is a provenly failed method of economic governance, to fix problems that we’re not even having in the first place. At least not on a scale nearly so bad as the left is claiming.

The Daily Wire even backed up Crenshaw’s point by referring to various sources that showed America has been improving for years when it comes to upward economic mobility:

According to AEI’s Mark Perry, using data from the U.S. Census Bureau, from 1967 to 2017, the percentage of high-income households in the United States increased from 9% to 29.2%. Meanwhile, the percentage of low-income households decreased from 37.2% to 29.5%. The share of middle-income households did shrink (from 53.8% to 41.3%), but many moved upward.

A 2018 publication from Pew Research states: “From 1971 to 2011, the share of adults in the middle class fell by 10 percentage points. But that shift was not all down the economic ladder. Indeed, the increase in the share of adults who are upper income was greater than the increase in the share who are lower income over that period, a sign of economic progress overall.”

While Crenshaw is right, and we can always improve, we need to begin looking at ways to use positive solutions for the economy instead of continuously resorting to solutions to “even the playing field.” The goal isn’t to be even, the goal is to get ahead. Onward and upward.
