Selling Capitalism More Effective Than Demonizing Socialism

Promoted from the diaries by streiff. Promotion does not imply endorsement.

There was a time when “socialism” was an ugly word, one with which no sane American would want to be affiliated. The term conjured stark images of gulags, food lines, and the brutal oppression typically associated with Soviet Russia and Cuba under the Castro regime. But it appears that times have changed, and not for the better.

Recent polls have revealed that a disturbing percentage of Americans prefer socialism over capitalism. In particular, Gallup found that 51% of adults aged 18-29 approve of socialism. A YouGov study conducted in November 2018 found that kids between the ages of 14 and 17 were split evenly on whether capitalism or socialism is the better system.

Liberty-minded Americans must ask: Why is this happening, and what can be done to stop it?

Socialism has become fashionable for several reasons. One of the most significant is related to the age group of those who support the destructive ideology. Far-left policies have gained support among younger adults, which indicates that American universities are likely the primary culprit. No surprise there. After all, a college professor extolling the virtues of the free market is about as hard to find as a libertarian in Canada.

Many academic institutions in the United States have been transformed from places where students can learn about a multitude of ideas to bastions of leftist indoctrination. College students are bombarded routinely with messages that promote Marxism, intersectionality, and other pernicious facets of progressivism.

Conservative viewpoints are minimized — if presented at all — and, in many cases, those who espouse right-leaning ideas are treated as ideological heretics. Indeed, the indoctrination machine is so potent, these young adults embrace socialism without truly knowing what it is. For Americans who favor capitalism, this is a troubling trend, but are conservatives doing enough to put a stop to it?

When it comes to attacking the socialist ideas being made famous by the likes of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), conservative media have been vigilant. Right-leaning outlets have become quite adept at debunking their arguments and exposing the inability of the democratic socialist crowd to explain adequately how they would make their ideas a reality.

Moreover, conservative pundits and politicians have painted a devastatingly accurate picture of what happens when a country embraces socialism. Pointing out the dire situation facing the people of Venezuela provided the public with a concrete example of how socialist policies destroy nations. If the prospect of eating zoo animals to survive can’t turn someone away from socialism, what can?

Going on the offensive is always an effective tactic, and there’s a good chance this is why more Americans have not accepted socialism. But if conservatives wish to convince these individuals to burn their Che Guevara shirts, they must do more than just attack; they must also sell the alternative.

Given the fact that young adults are most supportive of socialism, it is critical that conservatives educate these individuals on the merits of the free market. Remember, the university has fed most of these folks a steady diet of Marx and Engels with a side of Lenin, and it is unlikely that they have been presented a favorable view of capitalist thought.

It might be necessary for the right to launch a pro-capitalist movement to counter the far-left pro-socialist movement. Conservative politicians, pundits, and leaders should accompany their attacks on socialism with compelling sales pitches for the free market. When Ocasio-Cortez lambastes billionaires for having too much money, conservatives should explain in detail how the existence of billionaires makes it possible for more Americans to have jobs and avoid poverty.

When Sanders prattles on about state-run health care, conservatives must show the public why a free market system results in higher quality medical care at more affordable cost. When the progressive left promotes more government control, conservatives must present freedom as the more desirable alternative.

While socialism gains traction in the culture, it’s worth pointing out a survey that revealed 76% of Americans say they would never vote for a socialist candidate. This means conservatives still have an opportunity to remind the nation that free markets make for a better society than the state could ever hope to provide. If right-leaning Americans want to stop the rising popularity of socialism, they must communicate what they are for and not only what they are against. In the end, putting forth the benefits of capitalism will be far more persuasive than relying solely on an aggressive offense.

Homicidal Ukrainian Dwarves, Weird Academic Studies and More: Are We Doomed?

Welcome to Are We Doomed? a weekly column in which I will take the latest news and try to determine if it’s all downhill from here.

This week, we’ve dealt with homicidal Ukrainian babywomen with dwarfism, a really weird “academic” study, and the stupidity of cancel culture. On the plus side, we’ve also seen people helping others in unexpected ways.

Homicidal Ukrainian Babywoman Dwarf

I never thought that was a heading I would use, but it’s 2019, so I’m pretty sure we’re living in a simulation anyway, and I’m just rolling with it at this point.

Here’s the basic story. The Barnetts, an American family adopted a 6 year-old Ukrainian orphan with dwarfism in 2010. Natalia, said orphan, started acting strangely (like allegedly telling her new mom she was trying to murder her) and showed physical signs of being older than she said she was, so they took her to a doctor and, in 2012, it was legally declared that she was actually born in 1989. That’s right, their 6 year-old was actually (allegedly!) in her 20s.

After acts of violence, Natalia was placed into a mental institution where she confessed to faking her age. So, in 2013, when the Barnetts son was given an opportunity to study in Canada, they got Natalia her own apartment, paid for a month, and went to Canada without her.

Now, they’re being charged with abandoning a dependent…and another family has adopted the supposed child.

So, are we doomed? Unclear. We have to wait and see if she’s actually an adult and/or murderer. However, the options here are that a woman pretended to be a child to be adopted by an American family, and then tried to murder them OR an American family adopted a child, thought or pretended to think she was a grown woman, and left her on her own to move to Canada. Both options kind of spell doom.

Is Tom Brady Everything That’s Wrong With Everything?

I don’t care much about football, to be honest (I’m a hockey girl), but I know who Tom Brady is. I’m from Michigan, so I don’t hate him like some do although, for the aforementioned lack of football love, I don’t stan him, either. The question is, does anybody have Tom Brady derangement syndrome like University of Rhode Island kinesiology professor Kyle Kusz?

In a book entitled “The Palgrave Handbook of Masculinity and Sport” he wrote a chapter called Making American White Men Great Again: Tom Brady, Donald Trump, and the Allure of White Male Omnipotence in Post-Obama America. Seriously.

Here’s an excerpt (emphasis mine):

I illuminate how Brady’s white masculinity is often coded as unapologetic about his socio-economic privileges, omnipotent in his manliness, and as a master of his body and athletic craft. In short, Brady embodies a living fantasy of white male omnipotence that serves symbolically as an imagined solution to white male anxiety for those who feel that the United States is in the midst of a culture war against white men and traditional American culture and values.

What?

So, are we doomed? Yep. While this was soundly mocked among some online, this still exists. Moreover, it was written by a college professor. Academia is broken, and that’s not a good sign.

The Des Moines Register Takes a Stand Against Charitable Giving

Finally, cancel culture reared its ugly head this week in one of the dumbest ways I’ve seen. In terms of doomedness, the story of Carson King might have given you whiplash this week.

First, King was a symbol that everything was going to be ok. Attending an Iowa football game, he held a sign saying that his Busch beer supply was getting low and listed his Venmo handle for anyone who might want to help. Amused viewers sent him more money than he expected, so he pledged to donate it to a local children’s hospital.

As this went viral, Anheuser- Busch and Venmo both got on board with donations and matching pledges of their own. Thus far, we are completely doom-free. People are fun enough to send King money, he decided to give the money to help sick kids, and the corporations mentioned on the sign got on board.

Then, the doom started. The Des Moines Register decided to do a piece on him and, in making sure he wasn’t a scam artist, took a look through his old Tweets. Apparently, he quoted the show Tosh.0 when he was 16 years old and those tweets included some racially charged language. I’ll be honest- it included the N-word. For some reason, the “journalist” Aaron Calvin  took this to the editorial staff, and they discussed whether or not to put this in the article. Why? I have no idea. It’s not at all relevant to the story. We’re totally doomed.

At this point, Calvin talked to King about these tweets and he, in turn, did the only smart thing- he got ahead of it. He spoke to the press expressing regret for the tweets that he made years ago (again, as a 16 year-old). Anheuser-Busch said they would keep their commitment to match donations through the end of the month, but cancelled all other promotions they had planned. We’re not doomed, because King took responsibility for what he tweeted, but we’re totally doomed that Calvin didn’t just tell him privately that he’d found these tweets, assure him this was not relevant to the story, and give him the opportunity to delete them quietly. We are also doomed because the beer giant didn’t stand up for King.

Then, things started getting looking up. The internet was outraged that this young man who had by this point raised more than a million dollars for the hospital had been dragged through the mud for…nothing. Then, it was discovered that that Calvin himself had tweeted even worse things. Ridiculous.

DMR ended up firing Calvin, but didn’t take any responsibility editorially. Calvin wasn’t fully to blame. Do they understand that people won’t even trust them to write a puff piece anymore? I’m not convinced. They took cancel culture too far.

Now, Iowa’s governor Kim Reynolds has named Saturday, September 29 “Carson King Day”. With $2 million in raised and counting, it’s no wonder.

So, are we doomed? There’s a lot in this story that spells doom. They dug up dirt on a guy who raised money for charity; a guy who could have taken the initial thousands of dollars in beer money and enjoyed himself. Still I think this is a story of not being doomed. King decided to help others with the money, the internet (for once) used their power for good, and King was recognized by the governor. If news outlets take notice and change their ways, even just a little bit, the impending doom will have been worth it.

Policeman Helps Kid Learn to Tie a Tie

A Utah teenager was running late for his homecoming dance because he didn’t know how to tie a tie, and his single mom couldn’t help. Headed to a friend’s house, they rolled through a stop sign and were pulled over. After explaining the issue to the policeman, he helped the young man and showed him how to tie his tie.

So, are we doomed? Nope. People are still good.

In the final analysis:

This was a wild week, and a lot of reason to think doom was around the corner. Still, we saw a lot of people helping others and standing up for strangers. I don’t think we’re doomed quite yet…but be careful out there. It’s kind of iffy some days.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) says she’s on a mission to tackle poverty in America, but that to understand the full scope of what we’re dealing with some big changes in the poverty line must be made.

In an interview she did Wednesday on CNN, the freshman Congresswoman was asked by Prime Time host Chris Cuomo about a new legislative package of six bills she introduced earlier this week. The bills, she asserted in a statement at the time, will help us “once again recognize the breadth and consequences of poverty in this country and work together to ensure a path forward to economic freedom for everyone.”

She told Cuomo on Wednesday that when it came to poverty, it was time to “push the bounds” (and, of course, to forcibly share prosperity):

And we have to establish an advanced society here in the United States of America. What that means is that we have to push the bounds. We have to start treating housing as a right. We need to start protecting renters. We need to start updating the federal poverty line.

Our last – our – our calculation for the federal poverty line is based on 1955 spending habits that assumes one income earner, a stay-at-home mom, and that’s why we don’t talk about child care. That’s why we don’t talk about geographic differences in cost of living.

So, we need to update our poverty line. We need to address the housing crisis in this country. We need to stop treating people who duly paid their debt to society, the formerly incarcerated, as – as – as outcasts for the rest of their lives.

The problem we have here in America, according to AOC, is that people are making a lot of money but not enough of it is cascading down to everyone else. In fact, she suggests the problem is so bad that if we raised the poverty line, it would actually show that even more people were living in poverty (really!):

The problem is that America is at its wealthiest point that we’ve ever been. And yet, we’ve – we are at one of our most unequal points that we’ve ever been. You would not know that our country is posting record profits because 40 million Americans are living in poverty right now.

And if the poverty line was real, if it was at around what some people think it should be, about $38,000 a year, we will be shocked at how much the richest society on the planet is – is allowing so much of its people to live in destitute.

Watch AOC make this brilliant deduction below:

Well, um, yeah. I mean, if you raised the poverty line to $60,000 that would add even more to the poverty rolls.

Good grief.

Beyond the ridiculousness of her comment, lets take a look at a few stats:

Here are the poverty guidelines for up to a family of three (which Twitter users also pointed out):

So what AOC is proposing is to triple the poverty rate for a single person from what it is now to $38,000.

A family of two, three, four can live on $38,000 a year if they live within their means.

A family of seven is considered living in poverty in America if their household income is around $38,000, which actually makes more sense than AOC’s wild calculations:

I’d like to think AOC didn’t actually run the numbers on this before she proposed it, but I’m sure she did and went with it anyway. Because when it comes to “spreading the wealth”, no dollar amount is too high to Democrats.

Travis County, TX Judge Sarah Eckhardt took a cheap shot at Texas Governor Greg Abbott during a Texas Tribune Festival panel on progressive activism. Abbott has been paralyzed from the waist down since 1984 when a large oak tree fell on him while jogging. He was 26 years old.

The Federalist’s John Daniel Davidson tweeted that Eckhardt was discussing the Texas legislature’s decision to “override local ordinances like Austin’s tree ordinance.” She joked that “Gov. Abbott hates trees because one fell on him.”

Davidson noted that the crowd laughed.

Texas Republicans were quick to call Eckhardt out on this remark.

Travis County Republican Chairman Matt Mackowiak issued a statement saying that Eckhardt’s comments were “disgusting.” He said, “Judge Eckhardt apparently believes that his disability is open to ridicule if it helps her make a political argument. This joke represents a profound lack of compassion from Judge Eckhardt … There is no place for insulting Americans with disabilities and Judge Eckhardt should know better.”

Texas state senator Kelly Hancock tweeted: “Absolutely classless comment! @GovAbbott is a shining example to all Texans of someone who overcame adversity with a smile, a LOT of hard work, and a positive attitude.”

And Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX) reacted by tweet writing, “What an unbelievably stupid thing to say about @GovAbbott or anyone. Taking steps to lessen the negative consequences of Austin’s nutball policy-making is hardly a basis to attack the Governor for a tragic injury which he has demonstrated steadfast determination to overcome.”

Eckhardt issued a statement on Friday evening apologizing for her “inappropriate” comment:

In my panel today at the Texas Tribune Festival on ‘Public Enragement’ I spoke about the importance of being able to disagree without being disagreeable. Then I said something disagreeable. I want to apologize to Governor Abbott. I made a flippant comment that was inappropriate. The comment did nothing to further the debate I was participating in, much less further the political discourse in our community, state, and nation. While the Governor and I disagree on a number of issues, that is no excuse to be disagreeable.

“Disagreeable” and “inappropriate” don’t begin to describe Eckhardt’s comment. It was cruel, thoughtless and disrespectful and it has no place in political debate. Is there no line liberals won’t cross in their references to conservatives?

Eckhardt should step down immediately. I can’t imagine being a conservative in her courtroom. Thank God President Trump is making so much progress in reshaping the courts.

Joe Biden’s Campaign Has the Forward Trajectory of a Bag of Jell-O

I don’t know why anyone ever thought Joe Biden would win. On a good day, when he was sniffing the hair of random women, or telling racist jokes, or lying about his family history, or shaking down banks for large loans he would never have to repay, the best you could say about Joe Biden was that he was inoffensive and could work a small group of elderly voters  in a workmanlike manner. Add to that his age and obvious cognitive impairment, and what you have left is the sad shell of a Democrat apparatchik whose appeal to the Democrat base is somewhere between “it’s my turn” and “I’m not batsh** crazy like those other guys” and to the general electorate is “I’m not Donald Trump.”

While the RCP average (which, let’s be honest, is a lot like averaging apples and oranges and declaring the result to be kumquats) still shows Biden with a 7 point lead, that number is both a) meaningless (as there is no national primary) and b) deceptive. Over the past three weeks we’ve seen a major shift in the landscape with Elizabeth Warren pulling even with Biden.

Internal polling by Biden’s own campaign shows him in a freefall:

With more than four months until Iowa’s Feb. 3 caucus, there is plenty of time for the dynamics of the race to change. But there’s also cause for some alarm for Biden. In New Hampshire, Tyson’s just-completed 600-likely voter poll shows Warren with 18 percent of the vote and Biden 15 percent in an open-ended ballot question. It’s a dramatic change from his last poll, with Biden dropping 18 points while Warren gained 7 — a 25-point shift.

Biden’s level of support in South Carolina makes it his firewall state, but even in South Carolina there are troubling signs of erosion. While he remains on top, among black voters, who are more than 60 percent of the Democratic electorate, Biden has plummeted 19 points in Tyson’s polls. That’s a potential leading indicator of the problems he could face after South Carolina’s Feb. 29 primary when many of the minority-heavy Southeastern states — as well as Texas and California — beginning voting on Super Tuesday, March 3, and thereafter.

Florida, where about 28 percent of the Democratic primary electorate is black, votes March 17. Biden is in first there with 24 percent of the Democratic vote, losing 15 points since May in Tyson’s polls. Warren moved into second with 11 percent, a 6-point increase while Sanders is in third with 5 percent, an 11-point loss since before the first candidate debate.

The percentage of Democratic voters who were undecided also shot up by double-digits in polls of the state.

In Iowa, Warren has pulled ahead of Joe Biden — marginally — for the first time, according to the latest Des Moines Register/CNN/Mediacom poll released Saturday. Pollster J. Ann Selzer’s highly regarded survey of caucus-goers showed Warren was benefiting from an enthusiasm gap — 32 percent said they’re “extremely enthusiastic” about caucusing for the Massachusetts senator, compared with 22 percent those who support the former vice president.

My contention was, and is, that the Ukraine silliness is going to mortally wound Biden because no matter how much the left and NeverTrump lecture people on how all the Euros wanted the Ukrainian prosecutor fired because he is corrupt no one really believes that while everyone understands Joe Biden using his clout to protect his son. And so long as President Trump continues to hammer on that subject, the narrative will stick to Biden and his core quality that would lead anyone to vote for him–electability–becomes more and more tenuous.

The New York Times reports that Biden’s supporters are running scared and are organizing a Super PAC to staunch the bleeding:

Allies of Joseph R. Biden Jr., concerned about his slipping poll numbers in the Democratic presidential primary and an onslaught of attacks from President Trump, are weighing whether to mobilize a super PAC supporting Mr. Biden and have held conversations with wealthy donors to gauge their interest in contributing money.

I can save you the trouble. Zero. None. Zilch. Nada. Because that isn’t how any of this works. Biden doesn’t have a massively engaged fan base. He can’t pack arenas for his stump speeches. He was the comfort candidate in the beginning and now he’s dying and it is only going to get worse. No one opens their checkbooks to the kind of donation that is needed to make a difference in a campaign when the candidate is losing momentum and doesn’t seem to understand why the hell he’s even running beyond providing more opportunities for Hunter Biden to grift.

At the bottom of that NYT piece was this rather ominous statement:

The next round of fund-raising reports, due after the end of the month, will also reveal whether Mr. Biden is still in a strong financial position relative to his nearest competitors. In the last quarter, Mr. Biden raised the second-most money of any candidate, trailing only Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind. But he finished June with less money in the bank than Mr. Buttigieg, Ms. Warren, Mr. Sanders and Senator Kamala Harris of California.

And this broke earlier in the day.

If Joe Biden loses Iowa and New Hampshire, he can hope all he wants for a South Carolina win but if it is anything less than a blowout, the momentum will be seen to be with Warren. And unless fundraising picks up, Biden won’t be around for South Carolina.

Douchebag Reporter Who Tried To Ruin Good Samaritan’s Life Is Now Playing the Victim After He Was Fired

Westlake Legal Group mob-torches-pitchforks-620x354 Douchebag Reporter Who Tried To Ruin Good Samaritan’s Life Is Now Playing the Victim After He Was Fired The Des Moines Register Social Media Social Justice Politics political correctness Media Front Page Stories douchebaggery democrats Culture Carson King Buzzfeed Allow Media Exception Aaron Calvin

You guys all remember Aaron Calvin, right?

Last weekend, a guy named Carson King made a viral appeal for beer money which brought in over $1 million. King donated the money to a children’s hospital.

Calvin is the noxious little BuzzFeed alum working for the Des Moines Register who wrote the story. His idea of doing a “background check” on King included going back into King’s tweets to when he was 16 and happened to quote a racially charged joke from the comedy show Tosh.o. This resulted in King being subject to a lot of public humiliation.

But Karma is real and, as it turned out, Calvin had a lot of very ugly stuff in his social media and it was from only a few years ago, after he was an adult. The Des Moines Register investigated him and today he was disappeared from that paper.

My colleague Brandon Morse takes the high road here and doesn’t want Calvin to be fired. I respectfully differ. I want him made unemployable for a period of years, if not his entire life. I want him working at a succession of minimum wage and menial and tedious and dirty jobs. And every day I want him to spend hours contemplating what kind of a pathetic douchebag he is. But enough of the good news. Because I have more good news.

Calvin has run back to BuzzFeed to play the victim. That’s right. A noxious little twerp who turned a guy’s life upside down for the sake of a few clicks is now the victim.

Soon, influential right-wing media figures also began circulating screenshots of Calvin’s own past offensive tweets that had been uncovered. In posts dating back to 2010, Calvin had used “gay” as a pejorative, written “fuck all cops,” and spelled out the word “niggas” twice when he was quoting others, including a Kanye West lyric. “Now that gay marriage is legal,” he wrote in one 2012 tweet, “I’m totally going to marry a horse.”

Calvin told BuzzFeed News these were “frankly embarrassing” tweets that he “would not have published today,” but said they had been “taken out of context” and were being used to “wield disingenuous arguments against me.”

This is such a self-serving crock of sh**. The tweets were not taken out of context any more that were Carson King’s. There were no disingenuous arguments made against him. He’s a terrible person with no moral character whatsoever.

He was given the chance to apologize an decided that being petulant and snarking his employer was a great evolutionary strategy:

Westlake Legal Group aaron-calvin-tweet-620x351 Douchebag Reporter Who Tried To Ruin Good Samaritan’s Life Is Now Playing the Victim After He Was Fired The Des Moines Register Social Media Social Justice Politics political correctness Media Front Page Stories douchebaggery democrats Culture Carson King Buzzfeed Allow Media Exception Aaron Calvin

“I regret publishing that tweet now,” Calvin told BuzzFeed News.

No sh**? Really? You regret it “now?”

As soon as the story broke, Calvin said he began receiving a barrage of death threats. He said HR reps at Gannett, which owns the Des Moines Register, forbade him from speaking to the media and told him to leave his apartment for his own safety. They offered to put him up in a hotel, but he stayed with a friend instead.

“I recognize that I’m not the first person to be doxed like this — this whole campaign was taken up by right-wing ideologues and largely driven by that force,” he said. “It was just a taste of what I assume that women and journalists of color suffer all the time, but the kind of locality and regional virality of the story made it so intense.”

On Thursday, while he was speaking to police about the death threats, Calvin said he got a call from Gannett representatives. “They told me they were going to offer me an option — that I could resign or I could be fired — with no severance,” he said. “It was really a semantic difference, I guess, so I chose to be fired.”

He wasn’t doxxed. People simply did what he did to Carson King. And you didn’t suffer what “women and journalists of color suffer all the time,” you suffered what noxious, self-righteous douches suffer all to infrequently.

He also expressed his frustration about the “false narrative about me ‘canceling’ Carson.”

“Carson was never in danger of being canceled — there was no attempt or intent to quote-unquote ‘cancel’ him,’” Calvin said. “He’s raised hundreds of thousands more dollars since this happened. The governor of Iowa declared a ‘Carson King Day.’”

I guess he forgot about the humiliation and Anheuser-Busch cutting ties with King. The only reason that King survived was the shot Calvin took at King was so pathetic and cheap that it offended the conscience of a nation.

Calvin said he’s still afraid to go out in public and is still staying at his friend’s house. He isn’t sure what he will do next, but hopes he can keep reporting.

“I’m just taking it day by day,” he said. “I feel like I’m a good writer and a good reporter and I was doing my job to the best of my ability.”

Calvin said he also still deeply believes in the “necessity of local journalism.”

“Frankly, it’s really disappointing to me to be abandoned by my former employer,” he said. “I still in a lot of ways support the Register — I just wish they had believed in me.”

Screw him. I hope his misery lasts for years or decades. I hope people see him and point him out to their kids as an object lesson about the price of rampant douchebaggery as a life style choice. If any good comes of this maybe it will be that Calvin and his fellow travelers will discover that this stupidity cuts both ways and that they shouldn’t so eager to make rules for others with the idea that they won’t have to live by the same rules. Maybe, just maybe, some jerk-off at BuzzFeed will get ready to pull the trigger on some stupid stuff like this and pause for a second…and delete what they’ve written for fear of the crapstorm that may be heading their way. But I’m not counting on it.

Another Major Part of the Whistleblower Memo Called out as False

The whistleblower complaint imploded big time yesterday when part of it was specifically called out as false by a senior government official, according to Christina Ruffini, the State Department and Foreign Affairs Reporter for CBS News.

Another problem in the story also emerged, according to Fox.

[A]ccording to the whistleblower complaint, by mid-May, U.S. diplomat Kurt Volker sought to “contain the damage” from Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani’s outreach to Ukraine.

But a July 19 text message conversation from Volker to Giuliani, provided to Fox News on Thursday, showed that Volker had in fact encouraged Giuliani to reach out to Ukraine — even sending Giuliani a message reading, “connecting you here with Andrey Yermak, who is very close to President Zelensky.”

Additionally, the complaint said Trump “suggested that Mr. Zelensky might want to keep” his current prosecutor general, a claim not supported by the transcript.

There were of course other things wrong with the claim to begin with, such as the claim that there was a quid pro quo offered when there was none, as the transcript shows. Ukraine has also made it clear that they did not in any way feel pressured in the phone call, despite the whistleblower saying differently. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said it was a “normal call” and “no one pushed me.”

But now there’s even more.

The whistleblower complained that there was nothing at all sensitive in the call. So that there was no justification for thereafter secure storage system in the NSC. The argument was that Trump just didn’t want people to hear the conversation.

As it turns out, that’s also wrong, as Undercover Huber notes in a great Twitter thread.

The administration also had another very legitimate reason for wanting to secure the information. Earlier in the administration, there were a lot of leaks they were trying to stop. According to ABC, more things were thus put in secure storage than previously.

So either someone in the chain of unreliable hearsay on the whistleblower memo was mistaken or someone along the way wasn’t telling the truth.

Again.

So when are Democrats going to throw in the towel on this?

The Media Tries To Cover For Adam Schiff’s Dishonesty But He Knows Exactly What He’s Doing

Yesterday, California congressman and renowned pencil-neck Adam Schiff made his history of bizarre and inappropriate actions even more bizarre and inappropriate by reading his own made-up version of President Trump’s conversation with Ukraine President Zelensky into the Congressional Record as though it were real.

This is the essence of what the president communicates: We’ve been very good to your country. Very good. No other country has done as much as we have. But you know what, I don’t see much reciprocity here. You know what I mean? I hear what you want. I have a favor I want from you though. And I’m going to say this only seven times, so you better listen good. I want you to make up dirt on my political opponent, understand? Lots of dirt, on this and on that. I’m going to put you in touch with people, and not just any people. I’m going to put you in touch with the Attorney General of the United States — my Attorney General, Bill Barr — he’s got the whole weight of American law enforcement behind him. And I’m going to put you in touch with Rudy, you’re going to love him. Trust me. You know what I’m asking, so I’m only going to say this a few more times, in a few more ways. And don’t call me again. I’ll call you when you’ve done what I asked.

As soon as sane people objected to Schiff trying to turn an allegedly serious hearing into a dramatic reading try-out for America’s Got Talent, the media jumped to his defense. Here’s the Washington Post’s Aaron Blake carrying water for Schiff:

Here’s Politico doing the same. In their deranged little fantasy, the GOP are the bad guys for complaining about Schiff’s tactic.

— House Intelligence Chairman ADAM SCHIFF (D-Calif.) focused on whether MAGUIRE went to the White House before DOJ to seek guidance on how to deal with the whistleblower complaint. Note: Schiff started the hearing with an imagined conversation between Trump and the Ukrainian president. Republicans continually brought this up, saying he was trying to mislead people.

CNN’s Wolf Blitzer tried to give him a way out but Schiff declined. Why? Because he knows he can literally do anything he wants and the stump-broke political press in Washington, D.C., will still give him a tongue-bath.

This was not a parody, it was a calculated strategy. Schiff knows his allies at CNN/MSNBC?ABC/CBS/NBC will play his soliloquy without any preface and leave the viewers under the impression that he read from the transcript directly. Again, this type of bone-deep dishonesty and lack of integrity is just who Adam Schiff is. We’ve known that for three years…at least. What is becoming obvious is that the media aren’t just left-leaning, they are every bit a duplicitous as Schiff.

Wealthy Gun Control Proponent Michael Bloomberg Dumps Cold Water on Beto’s Gun Confiscation Plan

Failed Senate candidate Beto O’Rourke has taken plenty of flak from Republicans and even some Democrats in the aftermath of announcing his so-called “gun buyback” program, but he recently received criticism from an unlikely source: Former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who has spent millions of dollars promoting gun control policies and gun control candidates all across the country.

Bloomberg appeared on the PBS program “The Firing Line” with host Margaret Hoover this week. During the program, he was shown the video clip featuring the “Hell yes” comments O’Rourke made at the Democratic presidential debate earlier this month when asked by ABC News moderator David Muir about his gun confiscation plan.

“That’s why I won’t be a candidate of the Democratic Party. Because it’s so impractical,” Bloomberg responded after watching the clip. “I don’t know how you’d even do it. It would be such a rallying cry for people that say they’re overstepping their bounds.”

When Hoover interjected to ask if he was saying that Beto’s plan was “not the way to win this issue”, Bloomberg agreed.

“That is not the way to win this issue. First thing, AK-47s should not be in the hands of individuals. They are guns built, not for hunting. They’re guns built to kill the maximum number of people as quickly as you can, and we shouldn’t have them,” he stated.

So if Beto’s solution is “impractical” per Bloomberg only because he doesn’t know how it could be accomplished, what’s his suggested alternative? One way he gave is to take action against gun manufacturers.

“So you can go after the gun manufacturers and get them to stop it,” he opined. “But how you would go and get those back out [from private citizens?] – you might have an incentive program and maybe people would turn them in. But I don’t even think that would happen.”

His answer to combating gun violence is more background checks and red flag laws. Gun confiscation programs like Beto’s are not practical, Bloomberg told Hoover, because gun owners tend to own lots of guns.

Watch the interview clip below:

Bloomberg’s comments about Beto O’Rourke’s radical plan mostly in line with what pro-gun control groups like the Giffords group stated in response to what he said at the debate:

Several gun control groups stressed Friday that they were not advocating confiscation, but they also didn’t follow Coons’ lead in condemning O’Rourke’s declaration.

“I think it is very understandable that he is taking a policy position that the larger gun safety community hasn’t taken and he’s trying to push the envelope,” said Robin Lloyd, managing director of Giffords, the gun control group named after Gabby Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman who survived a gunshot wound to the head in 2011. “If the American voter does not think this is an appropriate solution, they’ll let us know.”

I think they already are.

Woman’s Boyfriend Shoots Her in the Head, but She Forgets for Almost Two Months so They Keep Dating

“Not tonight, dear, I have a headache.”

So goes the ol’ lame excuse.

But Nicole Gordon of Atlanta really had a solid reason for sittin’ out an amorous episode or two: The potential sexy-time needs of her boyfriend, Jerrontae Cain, notwithstanding, she really did have a sizable noggin throb.

And not only that, but there was an even more substantial reason the 42-year-old may wanna take a raincheck on the come-hithers for a Carnal Cruise to Pleasureland from her boarding beau: Jerrontae had shot her in the head.

Normally, a bullet to the cerebellum might cause a relationship to downright fall apart, but heck — it’s like Sharon said to Susan in The Parent Trap:

“That’s how true love creates its beautiful agony — all splendid lovers had just dreadful times! Pelias and Melisande, Daphnis and Chloë. History’s just jammed with stories of lovers parted by some silly thing!”

How deep is your love? Nicole and Jerrontae’s is — at the very least — skull deep.

So they sojourned on for nearly a couple months — when it’s true love, ya just gotta give it a shot.

But eventually, a family member encouraged Nic to hoof it to the hospital over her terrible pounding above the neck.

And doctors were shocked by what they found: There was a lead slug embedded at the base of her skull.

Nicole was just as surprised: Apparently, the trauma of the headshot had caused her to lose her memory. She had no idea her main squeeze had squeezed — not another woman, but a trigger.

She told doctors she recalled arguing with Jerrontae in their car while she was driving, and that the driver’s side window had shattered and fallen on her, knocking her unconscious. Also: The car had crashed into a tree.

I can’t imagine Jerrontae’s surprise when she woke up and was all, “My head hurts. But you wanna get some waffles?”

Actually, it didn’t happen quite that way, but close enough: They went to his mom’s house and treated a cut to the back of her head, which she thought was from the glass.

On the other side of an issued warrant, Jerrontae Cain, 39, was taken into custody after being found hiding in an attic.

This January.

Nicole was shot in 2017.

Jerrontae took it like a pro — he’d been arrested 13 times before.

At trial, surely all mouths hung agape as Nicole’s friends testified her ex had physically abused her in the past.

As reported by The Daily Mail, doctors have declined to remove the bullet in Nicole’s head, for fear the procedure would kill her.

True love makes a heart skip a beat; Nicole’s almost made hers skip the rest, too.

Cupid shoots an arrow; Jerrontae got a bit more modern.

But in the end, Nicole found freedom and her firearmin’ former flame got fitted for a jailbird jumpsuit. He’ll be wearing it for 25 years.

Given that turnabout’s fair play, the previously-passion-fueled pistoleer had better watch out — they have love guns in prison, too. But I don’t think they go for the back of the head. Their aim’s a little…lower.

And as Jerrontae taught Nicole — and as the 1976 superhit says — “Love hurts.”
