New York City police are searching Thursday for five suspects caught on video breaking into a store in Times Square and making off with six drones worth a combined $16,000.

The looting incident unfolded Monday night following protests sparked by the death of George Floyd.

Surveillance footage released by police shows two suspects using their bodies to ram through the store’s glass door.

Once inside, the group of suspects are then seen scrambling around and grabbing drones before escaping on foot.

The combined estimated value of the drones stolen from the store is $16,000, according to Fox5 NY. The NYPD is now offering a reward of up to $2,500 for information leading to their arrests.

The store, on its Facebook page, had said in mid-March that it was “closed until further notice” due to the ongoing coronavirus outbreak.

The Texas Department of Public Safety says it’s looking into links between Antifa and the violence and looting that has erupted at protests sparked by the death of George Floyd following an incident that authorities believe was organized by the extremist group.

DPS Director Steven McGraw made the announcement Tuesday while highlighting the May 31 raid of a Target store in Austin, which he says was coordinated by Antifa over the Internet.

“The protest and looting of Target in Austin that was done and organized by an Antifa web page and of course, the surveillance that was provided over the Internet identifying where law enforcement resources were staged, was done over Antifa accounts,” McGraw said, according to Reform Austin.

McGraw said the DPS is also working with the FBI’s Joint Terrorism Taskforce to track down individuals responsible for looting or inciting riots within Texas.

FEDS INVESTIGATING WHETHER ‘PROFESSIONAL’ ANTIFA-LINKED AGITATORS EXERTING ‘COMMAND AND CONTROL’ OVER UNREST

“We are talking about violent extremists. There’s anarchists. There’s Antifa, but there are also criminals that are using this as an opportunity to exploit and to loot and hurt others. That’s happened,” Reform Austin quoted McGraw as saying.

“We have a long memory. We have recorded evidence, and we will continue to investigate each and every event to identify those individuals who were involved in criminal conduct and make the appropriate arrests based on probable cause and getting prosecution from either the district attorney or U.S. Attorney’s Office,” he added.

McGraw also reportedly said the DPS has had special agents embedded with the George Floyd protesters to help identify the violent elements of the crowds. Some of them, Reform Austin reports, are expected to be taken into custody.

The developments come after a senior Justice Department official told Fox News on Wednesday that federal law enforcement officials are probing whether “criminal actors” are coordinating violent activities during protests and are looking into reports that “rocks and bricks” have been dropped off to throw at police and other officers.

“You see the hallmarks… We’re trying to see if there’s a coordinated command and control, you see those bread crumbs and that’s what we’re trying to verify,” the DOJ official said.

Another DOJ official said the feds have seen signs of “very organized” coordination from “professional” agitators, some linked to Antifa.

President Trump announced Sunday that the U.S. government will designate Antifa as a terrorist organization.

Fox News’ Jake Gibson and Alex Pappas contributed to this report.

German prosecutors believe Madeline McCann is dead as details emerge about new suspect in disappearance case

German prosecutors investigating a new suspect in the 2007 disappearance of Madeline McCann now say they “assume the girl is dead.”

Hans Christian Wolters, a prosecutor in Braunschweig, Germany, made the announcement Thursday following a massive breakthrough in the infamous missing persons case.

Investigators on Wednesday revealed that a German citizen currently imprisoned for a sexual crime — believed to be in and around the Portuguese resort area where McCann was at the time she vanished — has emerged as a key suspect.

“In connection with the disappearance of the then 3-year-old British girl Madeleine Beth McCann on the May 3, 2007 from an apartment complex in Praia da Luz in Portugal, Braunschweig prosecutors are investigating a 43-year-old German citizen on suspicion of murder,” Wolters told reporters. “You can infer from that we assume the girl is dead.”

NEW SUSPECT IDENTIFIED IN MADELINE MCCANN CASE

McCann, her parents say, disappeared after they had left her and her twin siblings asleep in their holiday complex while they had dinner with friends at a nearby restaurant.

As of Thursday, they are still holding out hope that she may be alive, somewhere.

“All we have ever wanted is to find her, uncover the truth and bring those responsible to justice,” Kate and Gerry McCann said in a statement prior to Wolters’ announcement, according to Sky News. “We will never give up hope of finding Madeleine alive but whatever the outcome may be, we need to know as we need to find peace.”

Throughout years of investigations, more than 600 people had been identified as being potentially significant. But officers were tipped off about the new German suspect following a 2017 appeal, a decade after the girl disappeared.

NETFLIX DOCUMENTARY CLAIMS MCCANN IS ALIVE

Police said the suspect, described as white with short, blond hair and a slim build, was linked to a camper van seen in Algarve region in 2007 and was believed to be in the resort area in the days before and after May 3 that year.

He financed his life by committing thefts in hotels and apartments – and was involved in drug dealing as well, Sky News reported, citing German authorities.

The suspect also reportedly owns another vehicle — a Jaguar — that he transferred to another name the day after McCann’s disappearance.

“Someone out there knows a lot more than they’re letting on,” Detective Chief Inspector Mark Cranwell said on German television Wednesday. “Some people will know the man we’re describing today… you may be aware of some of the things he’s done.”

FBI PROFILER SAYS MCCANN CASE IS ‘SOLVABLE’

The suspect is currently imprisoned in Germany for a sexual crime, according to Christian Hoppe of Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office. Hoppe told German public broadcaster ZDF that the man spent numerous years in Portugal and has two previous convictions for “sexual contact with girls.”

He is being investigated on suspicion of murder by prosecutors in Braunschweig because it is the location of his last registered address before moving abroad.

German prosecutors are not revealing the suspect’s name, Wolters said, to avoid jeopardizing the ongoing investigation. But numerous media reports have identified him as Christian Brueckner.

Though numerous suspects have come to light in the case previously, family spokesman Clarence Mitchell said that it seems as if there is something different this time.

“In more than 13 years of working with the family I can’t recall the police being so specific about an individual,’’ Mitchell told Sky News. “He is not being named and the police are quite adamant they are not going to do that, certainly not yet, but they want very specific details around his movement in 2007, even down to phone calls he received the night before Madeleine went missing and the fact he changed the registration of his car the day after.’’

The son of a retired St. Louis police captain who was killed during looting sparked by the death of George Floyd has a message for the person who pulled the trigger: “just step back from what you are doing.”

Brian Powell made the remark to Fox2Now after David Dorn, 77, was gunned down early Tuesday while working as security for Lee’s Pawn Shop and Jewelry. Around 4 a.m. that morning, Powell said his brother – who was crying – called him to inform of him of his father’s death, leaving a “numbing feeling that came over my body.”

“The person who pulled the trigger, my message to them would just simply be, just step back from what you’re doing. Know the real reason that you are protesting. Let’s do it in a positive manner,” Powell told the station. “We don’t have to go out and loot and do all the other things.”

The person responsible for killing Dorn has not been captured as of Wednesday. CrimeStoppers is now offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to their arrest.

Dorn, prior to working security at the pawn shop, had been a police captain with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and a police chief in nearby Moline Acres. He retired in 2014, ending a police career that spanned more than 40 years, Powell says.

“They called him ‘Cap.’ That was the Cap. That was the Cap, everybody knows that was him,” Powell said.

“He couldn’t stay retired. My dad is that kind of person — he believed in black and blue.

“Police work ran through his veins.”

Powell also says if Dorn was still alive, he would have shown empathy toward his attacker.

“My dad, he is a forgiving soul. So he would have forgiven that person and try to talk to them because he was real big on trying to talk to youth and mentoring young people as well,” he added. “He was trying to get them on the straight and narrow and everything.”

St. Louis officials said Tuesday Dorn was killed responding to a burglar alarm that looters set off.

“David Dorn was exercising law enforcement training that he learned here,” St Louis Police Chief John Hayden said.

The Ethical Society of Police, a St. Louis black officers fraternal organization, mourned Dorn in a tweet as “the type of brother that would’ve given his life to save them if he had to.”

“Violence is not the answer, whether it’s a citizen or officer. RIP Captain!” the tweet said.

President Trump has also weighed in on Dorn’s killing, saying, “We honor our police officers, perhaps more than ever before.”

An Atlanta gun store owner says he’s hoping that “no one will get hurt” after 42 handguns were stolen from his business over the weekend during looting sparked by the death of George Floyd.

Jim Hinsdale, the owner of Chuck’s Firearms in the Buckhead neighborhood, told Fox5 Atlanta on Tuesday that his store was burglarized for the first time in 50 years.

“They were here to take advantage of the opportunity of police not being able to be dispatched and address the normal crime,” he said, adding that 42 semi-automatic handguns and revolvers were stolen from display cases, ranging in price from $500 to $4,200.

“The biggest disappointment is that the guns are on the street,” he continued. “Hopefully, no one will get hurt.”

Fresh Grocer’s store in the Germantown neighborhood – a part of the city described by residents as a “food desert,” where healthy and fresh food is hard to find – was among the businesses that suspended operations over safety concerns, according to Fox29.

“We can’t open our Fresh Grocer Supermarket. People are coming up crying because they can’t get food anywhere,” Fresh Grocer CEO Pat Burns told the station. “This was the No. 1 food desert in Philadelphia for years.”

police officer that New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio wants stripped of his badge after being seen on video pointing a gun at a crowd had actually drawn his weapon after his supervisor was “nearly killed” by a brick, a union says.

The Police Benevolent Association of the City of New York has posted a longer version of a video clip that has gone viral on social media depicting scenes that unfolded over the weekend in Manhattan around the time of George Floyd demonstrations.

“Now we have the full story: this police officer unholstered his weapon only after his supervisor was nearly killed with a brick. #FactsMatter,” the union – which represents 50,000 active and retired NYPD officers, wrote in a tweet.

NYPD OFFICER STRUCK IN NEW YORK CITY IN APPARENT HIT-AND-RUN, VIDEO SHOWS

The expanded footage shows an unidentified individual approaching an officer from his rear and then throwing an object at him. The targeted officer then flees the intersection before the cop that drew De Blasio’s scorn enters the same area and starts waving his gun around at demonstrators, who run away in response.

An initial video of the incident – which has 2.5 million views – began with the cop drawing his firearm and did not show the moments beforehand in which the other officer was targeted by the mystery individual.

Yet, hours before the expanded footage was posted online, De Blasio, during his daily press conference Monday, called for the cop to be fired.

“That to me, seeing that video was absolutely unacceptable,” the mayor said. “Now, I don’t know all the circumstances and we must know all the facts. There will be an immediate full investigation of that incident.”

DE BLASIO STANDS BY HIS DAUGHTER AFTER PROTEST ARREST, DISPUTES MEDIA REPORTS

“We have to always know it is not the place of an officer to pull a gun in the middle of a crowd. Knowing that there are peaceful protesters in that crowd, that is unacceptable,” he continued. “That is dangerous. I want you to note on that video how a superior officer immediately came over and moved that officer away from that crowd.

“That officer should have his gun and badge taken away today,” de Blasio concluded.

It’s not clear if de Blasio was aware of the situation that unfolded before the officer drew his gun. It’s also not clear if the crowds at that scene were peacefully protesting the police-involved death of George Floyd, or if it was looters who have seemingly hijacked the protests to run riot over U.S. cities, including Manhattan, in recent days.

But regardless, NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea – in response to the police union’s clip of the alleged brick attack – called it “senseless.”

“Horrible and unfortunately not uncommon. We MUST stop the anti-police rhetoric that is fueling these senseless attacks,” the commissioner tweeted late Monday. “We MUST also come together and hear each other, work together and move forward ….TOGETHER. #onenewyork”

Florida police officer has been suspended and is now under review after he was seen in a video shoving a kneeling woman to the ground during demonstrations against the death of George Floyd.

Officer Steven Poherence of the Fort Lauderdale Police Department will have his actions investigated by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement before an internal investigation is conducted, Police Chief Rick Maglione announced Monday.

The situation began Sunday when Poherence was one of several officers who had come to the assistance of a colleague, who had been surrounded by demonstrators and felt endangered, Maglione said.

Then some of the protesters began jumping on a patrol car and that officer also had to be rescued, Maglione continued.

He said as police were removing the endangered officers, Pohorence pushed the woman to the ground. Poherence’s colleagues then quickly pushed him away from the woman and down the street, while bottles were being thrown.

Maglione said he understands why some believe the shove provoked the crowd to throw bottles, but he said there were people in the crowd with bricks, bottles, fireworks, and other weapons who were hoping to start a fight with officers. He said the demonstration had been peaceful and was dispersing until some surrounded his officers.

“I don’t think [Poherence’s] action created what occurred… we were in the process of an officer rescue that turned into another officer rescue,” he said. But, he added, Poherence’s actions “could have added to what was going on.” He commended the officer who pushed Poherence away from the woman.

“She did what you are supposed to do — when you see either adrenaline or emotion or some kind of interaction going south… that is our job to do is intervene,” he said.

Fort Lauderdale Mayor Dean Trantalis said he felt Poherence’s actions were “offensive,” and he’s happy the department has suspended him.

“I thought that was something that should have never happened,” the mayor said.

NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio stands by daughter after protest arrest, disputes media reports

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio insisted Monday that his 25-year-old daughter was “peacefully protesting” and “not doing anything that would provoke a negative response” when she was arrested late Sunday night during demonstrations against the death of George Floyd.

Chiara de Blasio was taken into custody in Manhattan after allegedly blocking traffic and then refusing to move, law enforcement sources told the New York Post.

Yet De Blasio said when he and his wife Chirlane asked their daughter to explain the situation on Monday morning, she shared a different story.

“She was very clear that she believed she was following the instructions of police officers and doing what they were asking,” de Blasio told reporters.

“Absolutely she was abundantly clear — she was peacefully protesting, not doing anything that would provoke a negative response,” he added.

New York City was hit hard by looters Sunday night who targeted high-end retail stores and left a trail of destruction in their wake.

De Blasio said he wasn’t aware of his daughter’s arrest until a member of the media sent an inquiry to his office seeking his comment.

“It’s a reality that every parent faces — that you never know when your kids become adults, how they are going to go about their lives,” he said. “Sometimes you get surprises.”

The mayor said Chiara had participated in a peaceful protest a few nights before her arrest.

“And when I found out she had been arrested, I finally reached her with Chirlane and I asked her recount the whole story and look – I love my daughter deeply, I honor her. She is such a good human being. She only wants to do good in the world,” he continued. “She wants to see a better and more peaceful world. She believes a lot of change is needed. I’m proud of her that she cares so much and that she was willing to go out there and do something about it.”

However, a law enforcement source that spoke to the New York Post described the scene where Ciara was arrested as being a “real hotspot” where police cars were getting burned and “people were throwing and yelling, fighting with cops.”

“There were thousands of people in that area at that time,” the source added, describing how officers declared the scene an unlawful assembly.

Upon arrest, Chiara listed her address as being the mayor’s mansion – but did not tell police that she was de Blasio’s daughter, the sources added.

She was given a desk appearance ticket – and the arrest happened an hour before her father told demonstrators during a late-night press conference to “go home,” the New York Post reports.

The NYPD Sergeant’s Benevolent Association union, which has been a longtime critic of de Blasio, tweeted out Chiara’s arrest report. The tweet reportedly contained her personal information, but Twitter ended up taking it down for violating its terms of service.

“How can the NYPD protect the city of NY from rioting anarchist when the Mayors object throwing daughter is one of them,” the now-deleted tweet read. “Now we know why he is forbidding Mounted units to be mobilized and keeping the NYPD from doing their jobs.”

De Blasio ripped the tweet Monday as being “unconscionable.”

“Police unions could be part of the change and the improvement in this city and this country,” he said. “They really should re-evaluate what they are doing at this moment in history.”

An Ethiopian soldier gunned down a 32-year-old businessman during a security crackdown last year because his phone went off during a public meeting, Amnesty International revealed Friday.

The shocking killing was carried out as Ethiopia was trying to suppress an armed uprising by the Oromo Liberation Army, which formed in a region where members of an ethnic group had been complaining they were being marginalized from political and economic power, the BBC reports.

“During the meeting, one of the phones collected rang and the soldiers asked who the owner of the phone was,” Amnesty International wrote in a report about the August 2019 incident in the Oromia regional state, citing testimony from a witness. “Ariti Shununde responded saying that the phone belonged to him.”

“The EDF soldier ordered him to come to the front and he obeyed. Then the soldier told Ariti to turn around,” it continued. “As soon as Ariti’s back turned towards the soldiers, the soldier shot him in his back with two bullets. They killed him in front of the crowd.”

Amnesty says Shununde’s family and friends then started wailing and soldiers broke up the gathering.

“They then ordered some people to pick up the body and bury it immediately,” the report said. “As ordered, they instantly buried him at the cemetery of the locality.”

Local government officials later told Shununde’s family that he was killed by mistake.

Amnesty says the killing was never investigated and the soldier behind it, to this day, is still roaming free.
