Watch: Amazing Video of Coach Stopping Gunman In School, Hugging Him

Back in May, there was a story about how a football coach at the Parkrose High School in Oregon stopped a troubled young man with a gun at the school.

But now, KOIN 6 News has released video of the event, showing just how dramatic the situation was and how lucky everyone involved was that that coach was there and did what he did to stop the young man.

The student, Angel Granados-Diaz, was 18 and he brought a shotgun into a classroom at the school.

The coach, Keanon Lowe, who doubled as a security guard, had been called to the building to find Granados-Diaz.

He then tells what happened next.

“I walk in there, I get to the classroom, I’m in the classroom for 15, 20 seconds — you know, I ask the teacher, ‘Is the student here?’”

Granados-Diaz was only steps away with the shotgun tucked under his coat.

“The door opens — I’m within arm’s length of the door, about 3 feet away from the door, and there’s a kid with a gun, a shotgun,” Lowe said. “In a fraction of a second, I analyzed everything really fast,” he said. “I saw the look in his face, look in his eyes, looked at the gun, realized it was a real gun and then my instincts just took over.”

Lowe said running away never crossed his mind.

“I lunged for the gun, put two hands on the gun. He had his two hands on the gun and obviously the kids are running out of the classroom and screaming.”

Lowe handed off the gun to another teacher and then held the student in a hug, both to control him and to soothe him. “I felt compassion for him; a lot of times, especially when you’re young, you don’t realize what you’re doing until it’s over,” Lowe explained.

Meanwhile the other students ran and police started to flood into the school looking for the the man with the gun.

Here are the videos showing it as it happened.

The gunman entering the hallway with the shotgun and the coach entering the hallway unaware the gunman is there.

Lowe comes upon the gunman, grabs the gun and then passes it off to another teacher as Lowe hugs the student.

Kids run for their lives, Police looking for the gunman.

It turned out that the gun only had one bullet and they believe the student planned to kill himself.

He got a sentence of 36 months probation for unlawful possession of a firearm in the school and another count of unlawfully having it in public.

Pretty amazing and thank God for Coach Lowe.

Eating Babies, Unsexy Vegans, and Dumb Weddings: Are We Doomed?

Welcome back to my new column in which I take a look back at the week’s news and try to determine if we are, in fact, doomed.

Can’t Rule Out Eating Babies

An AOC event took a turn towards the doom this week when an audience member suggested we curb global warming by eating human babies.

While I understand that this woman is part of a bizarre political cult, the fact of the matter is that AOC didn’t bother to say “nah.” She said it was because she believed this woman to be “in crisis” and didn’t want to upset her. Maybe she’s in crisis because people keep telling her the world is about to end and we’re all going to die.

The only thing about this that made me think we’re not completely doomed is that it got “Jonathan Swift” trending.

VERDICT: Totally doomed

Unsexy Vegans Doing Unsexy  Things

Here’s what I know about this story. I know nothing else about it, I don’t want to know anything else about it, and I don’t need to know anything else about it.

VERDICT:  People who hurt animals are automatically doomed, and we are doomed for sharing an Earth with this man.  The only glimmer of hope is that everyone agrees this behavior is unacceptable.

The Worst Wedding Theme?

I realize I am old and boring, but it remains true that the only theme a wedding needs is “holy matrimony.” That doesn’t mean that the occasional theme is still fantastic (I’m going to a wedding in April 2020 that promises to be perfect), but most just detract from the point of what you’re there to do. That applies to novelty photos as well, which I’ve written about before.

For example, these joyless scolds could have just celebrated instead of being joyless scolds.

From what I understand, the bridesmaids put on these outfits, they took the picture, and then the whole thing was photoshopped to look like it was in front of “the hanging wall” where corporal punishment takes place during the story.

They were hoping the photo would go viral because people who think like this crave attention. I mean, because they longed for people to have deep and meaningful discussions.

Verdict: Mixed bag, actually. People need to stop acting like the Handmaid’s Tale is even close to happening, make weddings about marriage, and stop with the attention-seeking wedding photos. Then again, this photo was pretty widely mocked online. 50/50 doom here.

Hockey Continues To Be The Best Sport

You may recall 11 year-old Laila Anderson, a St Louis Blues superfan who is battling a life-threatening illness. She was with the team when they stunk, as  they rose, and they brought her to Boston for the final game when they won the Stanley Cup. Heck, they brought her on the ice with them to give it a kiss.

And now this.

VerdictNo doom in sight.

Holocaust Survivors Find Family

These Romanian octogenarians thought they’d lost their entire families in the Holocaust. Then they found each other, and the long-lost cousins were reunited.

Verdict: The internet did something good. We’re not doomed!

Loving Like Christ

The story of Botham Jean’s death is not one in which I expected to find anything beautiful. As you probably know, Dallas Police Officer Amber Guyger accidentally entered Jean’s apartment thinking it was her own and, thinking him an intruder, fatally shot him. She was found guilty of murder on Tuesday. Guyger is white and Jean was black, a dynamic that resulted in threats of violence in the city. People were braced for the worst.

At the sentencing, however, Botham’s 18 year-old brother Brandt showed the world how to live and love like Christ in a way most of us have never seen. Most of us carry the burden of unforgiveness for far lesser offenses. Christian or not, we can all  learn invaluable lessons from this young man of exceptional character.

Verdict: Anything else could have happened this week, and this man would have convinced me that we are not doomed. He gives me more than enough hope that we’re going to be ok.

Conservative activist Scott Presler continued to deliver on his pledge to clean up Democrat-led cities across the country. He tackled his biggest project yet on Saturday. Wearing hazmat suits, he and a group of 200 volunteers spent nine hours removing 50 tons of garbage from an L.A. homeless camp. The photographs show a remarkable transformation.

In the video below, Presler shows what the camp looked like before they went to work.

Nine hours later, the results speak for themselves.

Imagine if the left spent less time crusading for the rights of migrants crossing into the U.S. illegally and more time solving the problems of American citizens requiring assistance.

It’s not hard. Presler shows us what it takes. Why have the leaders of these largely Democrat controlled cities ignored the problem for so long and allowed conditions to deteriorate to such hazardous levels? There are common sense solutions to these problems if liberals would stop crying about conditions at the border and act.

As Presler says, #StopTalkingStartDoing.

Presley told reporters, “The highlight of the day was when a homeless woman said to me, ‘Thank you for keeping your promise.’”

His next project will be a third cleanup in Baltimore scheduled for October 5th.

Man Armed With 100 Rounds of Ammo in a Missouri Walmart Stopped by Armed Former Firefighter

The Springfield, MO Walmart gunman. Screen grab via ABC News.

A man police say was armed with 100 rounds of ammunition walked around inside a Springfield, MO Walmart Thursday afternoon filming himself as he pushed a shopping cart while carrying a rifle. Fortunately, he was stopped by an armed former firefighter.

News channel KY3 reports:

Officers booked Dmitriy N. Andreychenko, 20, on suspicion of first-degree making a terroristic threat. Greene County Prosecutor Dan Patterson has yet to file formal charges in the case.

The Springfield Police Department arrived on scene within three minutes of the call. Police stated Andreychenko pulled up to the Walmart, where he donned body armor and military fatigues. Police say the man had tactical weapons.

Police then say Andreychenko walked into the Walmart Neighborhood Market where he grabbed a cart and began pushing it around the store. Police say the man was recording himself walking through the store via a cell phone.

The store manager at the Neighborhood Market pulled a fire alarm, urging people to escape the store.

Police say Andreychenko then made his way out an emergency exit where a former firefighter held the man at gunpoint. At that moment Springfield Police arrived on scene and detained the man.

Watch a video report on what happened via ABC News:

It’s unclear what the gunman’s motives were, but in a February Facebook post, he commented about how he hated Walmart because of their policy on selling guns:

The incident happened just five days after a horrific mass shooting inside an El Paso, TX Walmart that killed 22 people and injured dozens more. In the Springfield incident, thankfully no one was hurt.

Springfield Police Department Lt. Mike Lucas said yesterday that the gunman’s “intent was not to cause comfort or peace to anybody that was in the business here. In fact, he’s lucky to be alive still, to be honest.”

Indeed.

A video from southwest China posted to social media Monday reveals a harrowing scene: a 3-year-old hanging from the balcony of an apartment building, six stories up.

As indicated by the tweet, the baby boy climbed his own way out of the high-rise.

Absolute doom seemed certain.

NBC news reports he’d been left alone while his grandmother went out for groceries.

What the heck?? He’s three.

A crowd had formed far below, and someone had had the good sense to bring out out a blanket.

They stretched it…

The little one struggled to get back onto the balcony.

But he couldn’t make it up.

He lost his grip as onlookers screamed in horror.

The boy fell straight down onto the taut blanket, wondrously saved from a 60-foot plummet.

Watch the incredible video above.

All who held the blanket will live the rest of their days knowing they saved a precious life by caring enough to attempt the impossible.

And the little boy will always know he was given a second chance — by neighbors and, perhaps, strangers.

According to the BBC, he suffered no injuries.

What an absolute miracle.

May God bless the heroes of our world.

On Thursday, I wrote about the controversy surrounding a police officers monument in Tega Cay, South Carolina that the city decided to alter and then later remove after complaints from some residents about its Biblical references.

The city first made the crazy decision early in the week to scratch out the Lord’s name on the monument in hopes it would appease those who had expressed objections to the references. Here’s what it looked like:

The next day, however, they announced they were going to remove the monument entirely:

“We have received many comments, both locally and nationally, in response to the monument at the Tega Cay Police Station,” the city said in a statement posted Facebook. “We attempted to find a compromise but failed as our community has further divided.”

[…]

“Hopefully folks understand why it was there. Hopefully folks understand why it has been removed. The text,” said Tega Cay City Manager, Charlier Funderburk.

[…]

“At this time, we have removed the monument while we continue to seek a solution that expresses our unwavering support and gratitude to those who risk their lives every day for ours,” they said.

The good news is that today they reversed course and now will not only restore the references to the Lord’s name on the monument but also will reinstall it at its original location. Here’s what the city posted on their Facebook page:

After careful consideration and much conversation with people on both sides of the discussion, City Council has made the…

Last Thursday, former Navy SEAL Dom Raso, Jr. noticed the American flag hanging at the Navy SEAL monument in Virginia Beach was not hanging appropriately and needed to be fixed.

So he tried three times to climb the pole and was unsuccessful. On the fourth try, he made it and got the job done.

Here’s the video and comments he posted on his Facebook page of his successful climb. To date, the video has been watched over 3 million times:

[The] flag needed to be fixed at the Navy SEAL monument this morning.

After a 3.5 mile run and smoked from the previous attempts, This was my 4th attempt at trying to get up and fix the flag. Literally had to visualize what I was doing wrong and what I had to do to correct my inefficiencies in order to improve for the next attempt. I couldn’t go by this flag this morning and not give it everything I had. The gold stars on this monument and the sacrifice that has been made for all us was something I wasn’t just going to pass by. This flag pole climb reminded me about EVERYTHING in life. There has been way to grave of sacrifice for me not to try. Once I do try I have to give it my ALL for them. If I fail…honor them by trying one more time and get better every time I do it. It doesn’t take many, it just takes a determined and convicted few. I believe with all my heart and soul there is a wave of patriots in this country growing in strength and confidence each day. There’s a particular tiny herd animal about which, if two of the cute little critters aren’t not getting along upon first meeting, standing them in just a tiny bit of harmless water — the conventional wisdom goes — will cause them unite. When faced with adversity, the foes will bond in order to form a stronger defense.

The same can happen, it may be assumed, with Democrats.

Recently, we’ve seen striking infighting across the aisle — Mama Bird Nancy stuck it to Baby Bird AOC, and a bunch of feathers flew.

During the melee, as RedState’s Bonchie put it, The Donald “[stripped] naked and [ran] onto the battlefield.”

Rather than let them continue to destroy themselves, Trump interrupted with his own pecking, turning their attention — and the audience’s — toward him.

A number of Republicans gave him an A for…well, just pick your A word for “not good.”

But could it have been smarter than perceived?

Some think so — perhaps he was making a genius move to make the Dems define themselves by the most extreme among them:

Interesting idea.

Consider Rush Limbaugh’s Monday statements on the matter:

“I think Trump sees this rift developing between Pelosi and the Democrat leadership and these new communists on the left led by Cortez, and I think he wants them back together again. I think Trump wants the Democrat Party to become known as the Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Green New Deal socialism party. I think he wants to hang that label around all of them, and for that to happen they have to be unified.”

So the President galvanizes toward the goofy a party intent upon taking him out in 2020. And at a time, no less, when a poll indicates that swing voters are down on the socialist squad of new left-wing representatives.

It’s an eyebrow-raiser.

Is it accurate?

Let us know what you think in the Comments section. Trump over the last week: fumbler of the football or touchdown-running titan?

Beach Shooting Victim Would Have Bought Pistol to Work, But It Was Prohibited Virginia North Carolina mass shooting hero Guns Gun-Free Zones gun control Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post crime Allow Media Exception

Screen grab via ABC News.

As if the Virginia Beach shooting massacre that claimed 12 innocent lives and injured 4 two weeks ago wasn’t heartbreaking enough, the lawyer of shooting victim Kate Nixon says she had considered bringing her pistol in to work due to safety concerns about two co-workers, but ultimately decided not to because it was prohibited.

The Virginian-Pilot reports:

Kate Nixon had considered taking a gun to work on May 31, the day a co-worker killed her and 11 others in the country’s deadliest mass shooting this year, a family attorney said on a radio show Monday.

The public utilities engineer was concerned about DeWayne Craddock “as well as one other person,” said Kevin Martingayle, an attorney working with Nixon’s family. So on the night of May 30, Nixon had discussed with her husband, Jason, “whether or not she should take a pistol and hide it in her handbag,” Martingayle said. She decided against it because of a city policy that prevents employees from bringing weapons to work.

The next day, Craddock, who had worked as a city public utilities engineer for nine years, used a .45-caliber handgun with a legally purchased silencer to fire at colleagues in Building 2 of the city’s Municipal Center in Princess Anne.

Her husband confirmed the story in a later interview with the paper:

So when she told her husband, Jason, that she had concerns about two of her co-workers, he knew it was serious. She didn’t like to be around DeWayne Craddock, a fellow engineer — he gave off “real bad vibes” and she’d had to write him up several times for issues with performance and attitude. They both worked on the second floor of Building 2 in the Municipal Center.

But on the night of May 30, it was another man she was most worried about. Kate told her husband that the man, whom Jason Nixon declined to identify, was set to be fired Friday and there was supposed to be a police escort on scene when it happened. While cooking dinner, she expressed her concerns.

“She said, ‘This guy’s going to come back and shoot the place up,’ ” Jason Nixon said. He encouraged his wife to hide a pistol in her purse and take it to work — she had training and knew how to use it — but she didn’t want to break city policy forbidding employees from bringing weapons to work.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on May 31, it was Craddock who opened fire in Building 2, killing Kate and 11 others.

Kate Nixon was a mother of three young daughters. She and her husband would have celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in July.

Mrs. Nixon was one of several shooting victims who sustained shots to the head.

Her husband says her actions that day ultimately saved lives:

Kate, a veteran engineer for the City of Virginia Beach, was first shot in the shoulder in Building 2. At 4:06 p.m. that Friday, she called and implored her husband to call 911 while she worked to help others.

“She didn’t seem distressed. She seemed in control,” he said.

That was typical Kate – a logical thinker, calm and collected. He then fired off a slew of texts, hoping she would be on the other end.

“I said, ‘I love you… what’s going on? Please call me. Are you okay?’” he read from his phone.

“Please Kate, I love you,” was his final text to her, sent at 4:27 p.m.

At 11 p.m. that night, he would find out Kate was dead.

A mother of 10 and grandmother to 42 is safe today after the heroic actions of four teenage boys who came to her rescue in Oklahoma.

Fox News reports:

Catherine Ritchie was in her bathroom getting ready for bed last month when she noticed the bed’s headboard was engulfed in flames.

Ritchie said she tried to put the fire out by throwing blankets and pillows on the flames, but the smoke grew so thick that she was soon disoriented in the home in Sapulpa, where she’d lived for 58 years.

She called 911 and hit her emergency call button, but she managed to get only to the hallway before losing her way in the smoke again.

That is when the four boys, Dylan Wick, 16, Nick Byrd, 14, Seth Byrd, 16, and Wyatt Hall, 17, came to her aid. They were across the street when the fire broke out.

According to KTUL, it was Nick Byrd who carried Ritchie out to safety:

Nick Byrd, 14, managed to get through the back door and ran inside, finding Ritchie in the hall, lost in the smoke.

“This young boy was right there,” she said. “He picked me up, and I said, ‘I can walk,’ and he said, ‘We’re getting out of here.’”

“I just kind of heard her,” said Nick Byrd “I went to the right of the house, and no one was there. I went to the left of the house, and I saw her in the hallway, so I just grabbed her and took her to Seth.”

Ritchie made it out safe. So did the boys, and firefighters stopped the flames before they spread.

Watch a video report on Ms. Ritchie and the four teens who saved her below:

Missy Ritchie Nicholas, one of Catherine Ritchie’s daughters, thanked the boys on behalf of her entire family in a blog post:

Kids who are told about all the things they aren’t old enough to do saved the life of the most precious and beloved woman we know. Courageous young men. Young men who risked their own lives, their own safety, perhaps their good standing with their parents who might have chosen for them to do otherwise, and they carried my mother out of her burning home into the street, where firetrucks and ambulances would soon arrive.

[…]

Thank you for being the kind of young men who thought about another person above yourselves. Thank you for staying safe yourselves as well. Thank you to your parents who obviously raised you in such a way that lead to you making life saving and heroic decisions on behalf of someone else. Thank you for more than we know how to thank you for! We will forever be indebted to the time you bought for us and the example you set for us. God Bless each of you for being such a blessing to us.

Amen.
