AOC blasted for ‘misleading’ tweet taking ‘victory lap’ over new Amazon jobs in New York City

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., was slammed on Friday night over what critics say is a “misleading” tweet touting a new report about Amazon bringing jobs to New York City.

Last summer, Ocasio-Cortez waged war against Amazon after the retail giant struck a deal with the state of New York to open a second headquarters in New York City, which would have brought 25,000 jobs to the city, in exchange for $3 billion in state and local subsidies. Ultimately, Amazon backed out of the deal.

However, it was reported Friday that Amazon was leasing a 335,000-square-foot office space in Manhattan that is set to bring more than 1,500 jobs into the city.

Ocasio-Cortez celebrated the news on Twitter.

“Won’t you look at that: Amazon is coming to NYC anyway – *without* requiring the public to finance shady deals, helipad handouts for Jeff Bezos, & corporate giveaways,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “Maybe the Trump admin should focus more on cutting public assistance to billionaires instead of poor families.”

She also posted a picture of herself sitting on the couch with the caption: “Me waiting on the haters to apologize after we were proven right on Amazon and saved the public billions.”

AOC CALLED OUT AFTER CLAIMING TRUMP FOOD-STAMP REVISIONS MIGHT HAVE LEFT HER FAMILY ‘STARVED”

Many took exception to the “victory lap” the freshman congresswoman made and pointed to the math of the jobs that were still lost from her battle with Amazon.

“Another day, another viral misleading tweet from AOC. Amazon is leasing office space in Manhattan for 1,500 employees, which is 6% of the 25,000 jobs its HQ2 in Queens (her district) was supposed to add,” The Daily Caller’s Peter Hasson said.

“AOC could have had 25,000 jobs in her district from Amazon, but now, Amazon is only offering 1,500 jobs using rental space OUTSIDE her district. She’s taking a victory lap for a 94% loss in jobs in NYC and 25,000 job loss in her district. Socialist logic is incredible,” political strategist Caleb Hull wrote.

This isn’t the first controversy Ocasio-Cortez stirred up on Twitter this week.

The Democratic “Squad” member received pushback Thursday after claiming her family “might’ve just starved” had the Trump administration‘s tightened requirements for food stamp recipients been in place when her father died in 2008.

Critics claimed the freshman congresswoman misrepresented the new rule, pointing out that it applies only to childless, able-bodied adults under 50.

PELOSI SUGGESTS AMID TRUMP IMPEACHMENT, ‘THE ARTS’ WILL HELP HEAL AMERICA

The U.S. Agriculture Department (USDA) finalized the first of three proposed rules targeting the Supplemental Nutrition Program, known as SNAP. The plan announced Wednesday will limit states from exempting work-eligible adults from having to maintain steady employment in order to receive benefits.

Ocasio-Cortez, 30, responded to the announcement on Twitter on Thursday.

“My family relied on food stamps (EBT) when my dad died at 48. I was a student. If this happened then, we might’ve just starved. Now, many people will,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “It’s shameful how the GOP works overtime to create freebies for the rich while dissolving lifelines of those who need it most.”

The New York Democrat was 19 and about to begin her sophomore year at Boston University when her father, Sergio Ocasio, died of lung cancer. It is likely her mother still would have claimed her as a dependent at that time.

Several critics challenged the congresswoman, including The Heritage Foundation, a conservative Washington-based think tank, writing: “The rule applies to able-bodied adults between the ages of 18 and 49 who do not have dependents. The rule wouldn’t apply to parents with minor children, the elderly, or disabled people.”

Katie Hill speaks out about scandal, still denies affair with congressional staffer after resignation

After several appearances on cable news since her resignation from Congress last month, former Rep. Katie Hill, D-Calif., spoke out at length for the first time on Friday night about the alleged inappropriate relationships she had with subordinates.

In October, intimate texts and photographs of the congresswoman emerged as she reportedly had engaged in a “throuple,” or a three-person couple, with her estranged husband and a female campaign staffer, and was accused of having an affair with her congressional financial director, which prompted an investigation by the House Ethics Committee.

Hill, who is openly bisexual, admitted to having relations with the female campaign staffer but denied having an affair with her congressional staffer. She officially resigned from her seat in early November.

WASHINGTON POST HIT FOR ASKING IF KATIE HILL SAGA WOULD HAVE HAPPENED TO A MAN

During an interview on MSNBC, Hill said she does not regret her resignation from Congress.

“I think it was the right thing to do for a number of different reasons, one of which is that there was no way for me to continue working as well as I could with the amount of distraction that it was going to continue to provide,” Hill said. “This was fodder for right-wing operatives… I knew I was going to be, basically, bait for some kind of distraction against what was really important.”

“I was supposed to be the freshman representative to leadership. How could I be the freshman representative to a lot of these people who were in tough seats when they were going to have to go home and answer questions about who is this person that you were working with?” she asked.

Hill repeated her denial about having an affair with a congressional staffer and claimed the House Ethics probe was launched “because of a claim made by my estranged husband” and not from any report.

“I have a real problem with this whether you’re a Democrat or a Republican. I don’t think some random person making accusations should launch an ethics investigation because its incredibly invasive,” Hill explained. “It’s something that’s a big, big deal for not just for you but for your staff as well, that there should be some kind of an actual basis for it that a vengeful ex of some kind or just a random political operative can’t be the one who instigates an investigation like that.”

The 32-year-old Californian claimed that her revenge porn controversy was the “first example” of it being used against a public figure, “especially a political figure,” with the images published by the mainstream media.

However, MSNBC host Chris Hayes failed to mention that similar scandals previously occurred to two male lawmakers.

In 2017, Rep. Joe Barton, R-Texas, announced he would not seek reelection after a nude photo and lewd text messages he had sent to women amid his divorce had surfaced. And in 2011, Rep. Chris Lee, R-N.Y., resigned after flirtatious emails and a bare-chested selfie emerged from an extramarital affair that spawned from Craigslist.

Media piles on Nikki Haley after misinterpreted Confederate flag remarks go viral

Several members of the media slammed former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley over remarks she made during a recent interview about the Confederate flag.

In a clip that went viral, Haley recalled the dark chapter as the South Carolina governor in the aftermath of the 2015 Charleston church shooting and how the tragedy sparked numerous debates, including the Confederate flag, which she had removed from the state’s capitol building.

“South Carolina fell to our knees when this happened. This is one of the oldest African-American churches. These twelve people were amazing people. They loved their church. They loved their family. They loved their community,” Haley said. “And here is this guy who comes out with his manifesto holding the Confederate flag and just hijacked everything that people thought of.”

“We don’t have hateful people in South Carolina. There’s always the small minority that’s always going to be there. But people saw it as service and sacrifice and heritage. But once he did that, there was no way to overcome it,” she went on.

Haley also described how “the national media” attempted to “define what happened” by making the tragedy about things like racism, gun control and the death penalty, and how she had to push them away to allow her state to grieve.

“We had a really tough few weeks of debate, but we didn’t have riots. We had vigils,” Haley said. “We didn’t have protests. We had hugs. And the people of South Carolina stepped up and showed the world what it looks like to show grace and strength in the eyes of tragedy.”

WASHINGTON POST MOCKED FOR SUGGESTING MELANIA TRUMP COULD BE ‘SENDING CODING MESSAGES’

However, the tweet accompanying her remarks said, “Nikki Haley says the Confederate flag was about ‘service, and sacrifice, and heritage’ until Dylan Roof ‘hijacked’ it,” omitting how she said “people” in South Carolina felt that way about the Confederate flag, not herself.

Regardless, the tweet sparked heavy backlash to Haley from media critics.

“Remember that brief period of time when Nikki Haley was considered the adult in the Trump Administration? Welp, she just failed 8th grade social studies with this take,” CNN host W. Kamau Bell said.

“Nikki Haley going full MAGA and racist leading up to 2024,” New York Times contributing op-ed writer Wajahat Ali said. “Told ya. This is the only way for a candidate to be appreciated by the Republican Party now. No country for moderates, adults or Never Trumpers. Also the Confederate flag was for treasonous criminals who enslaved people.”

“Hey, Nikki Haley… Confederate flag is no better than a Swastika,” Washington Post columnist Jonathan Capehart wrote.

Even “The View” conservative co-host Meghan McCain initially attacked Haley.

“This is a deeply insensitive and ignorant thing to say Nikki. There is no room for any defense of the Confederate flag,” McCain wrote in the now-deleted tweet.

Others rushed to Haley’s defense as the clip continued to spread on social media, calling the tweet “misleading” and pointing out how she wasn’t speaking on behalf of herself.

Haley later responded to the controversy.

“2015 was a painful time for our state. The pain was and is still real. Below was my call for the removal of the Confederate flag & I stand by it. I continue to be proud of the people of SC and how we turned the hate of a killer into the love for each other,” Haley said.

Among the outlets that ran with the story, Axios deleted a tweet with the misinterpreted quote and updated its report.

“We’ve deleted a tweet saying that Nikki Haley said the Confederate flag represents ‘service, sacrifice and heritage’. Our story has been updated to reflect that Haley said: ‘People saw [the flag] as service, and sacrifice and heritage,'” Axios said.

The Hill was also slammed for a similar tweet, which critics called “wrong” and “a lie.”

Pelosi suggests amid Trump impeachment, ‘the arts’ will help heal America

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., suggested Thursday night that “the arts” will help unite the country as House Democrats pursue impeachment against President Trump.

During a televised town hall, Pelosi was asked how she planned on “unifying the nation” throughout the impeachment process and she began by stressing that the country “was divided” and how Trump had been “divisive” before House Democrats launched their inquiry last fall. She later added that despite existing divisions before he took office, Trump made them “much, much worse.”

After touting the 275 “bipartisan bills” she said the House passed that were “waiting” on the desk of Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., Pelosi stressed that the country not only had to “heal” but also to “repair” itself.

“I myself think that one of the ways that America will heal is through the arts,” Pelosi told the CNN town hall attendee. “I truly believe that’s something where we find our common ground. You enjoy music together, you see a play or movie, you laugh, you cry, you’re inspired, you laugh, you cry…”

She went on to paraphrase poet Percy Bysshe Shelley by saying, “the greatest force for moral good is imagination.”

“Imagination, the creativity of it all, again, to share an experience in a way that puts aside your differences. Imagination, put yourself in another person’s shoes,” Pelosi continued. “I think that that plus a discussion, people talking to each other — we all have much more in common than divides us and we have to find that common ground.”

Washington Post mocked for suggesting Melania Trump could be ‘sending coded messages’

The Washington Post raised eyebrows Thursday for a column asking whether first lady Melania Trump is “sending coded messages” while serving as the presidential spouse or if “we are just talking to ourselves.”

Post columnist Monica Hesse opened her piece by addressing the upcoming unauthorized biography “Free, Melania” and acknowledged how much of the book relied largely upon other people’s accounts as well as speculation, which Hesse described as “analysis” about things ranging from the first lady’s body language to fashion choices.

According to Hesse, author Kate Bennett argued that the first lady made “intentional” fashion statements, one of which involved the memorable jacket she wore on a trip to the southern border where migrant children were being detained that read, “I really don’t care, do u?” The biography author insisted it was actually a message to Ivanka Trump, who supposedly took credit for urging her father to end the separations of migrant families.

“Is there symbolism in everything Melania Trump does, or not?” Hesse asked. “Is Melania Trump playing five-dimensional chess against the rest of her checkers-playing family, or not? Will we ever know? Does it even matter? Does your pointed commentary about the administration’s immigration policy matter, if, to understand you’ve commented at all, the American public must intimately know the shopping habits of your grown stepdaughter?”

Hesse then asked whether “bizarrely choosing to communicate in fashion code” instead of spoken language or having “no plan at all” was the “more unsettling interpretation” of Melania Trump, later writing, “I have wondered whether Melania Trump is a genius. I have wondered whether she’s an idiot. I have wondered why I wonder about her at all.”

THE WASHINGTON POST ATTACKS MELANIA TRUMP’S ‘RIDICULOUS’ JACKET AFTER APPROVING HER CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS

“A job requirement of models is the ability to disappear: to sublimate one’s own identity into the clothing so that the shopper can picture herself wearing it instead,” the Post columnist explained. “Melania Trump’s greatest achievement has been her self-sublimation, her ability would like Melania Trump to mean something. I would like for her to mean something in the way that we would all like any of this chaotic era to mean anything, because the alternative is that we’re just living in chaos, in a country led by chaotic people.ty to let people project their own worldviews onto her. Conservatives see a classy helpmeet, bringing old-world elegance to the White House. Liberals, zeroing in on her initial New York home base and her thirsty eyes toward Justin Trudeau, proposed for a while that she might loathe her husband as much as they did.”

She continued, “I would like Melania Trump to mean something. I would like for her to mean something in the way that we would all like any of this chaotic era to mean anything, because the alternative is that we’re just living in chaos, in a country led by chaotic people… What if there was no meaning. What if we stopped inventing meaning… Free, Melania. Free us all.”

The column sparked questions of concern from many readers on social media.

“The Daily Show” had some fun at the expense of CNN over what appeared to be a premature “cut” to the “wrong black guy” during Wednesday’s impeachment-inquiry hearing.

The show’s Twitter account shared a CNN clip showing House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., calling on Rep. Cedric Richmond, D-La., to begin his line of questioning for the impeachment witnesses. However, the next shot showed Rep. Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., who was sitting next to Richmond — before the camera operator quickly panned the shot to the correct congressman.

“CNN cut to the wrong black guy,” the show tweeted.

As TV blogger Scott Jones pointed out, CNN’s communications account attempted to explain why the error occurred, pointing to how the network was “taking pool video, which means we are not in control of the shots.”

However, “The Daily Show” then fact-checked CNN with a side-by-side comparison of CNN’s coverage versus C-SPAN, MSNBC, and Fox News, showing CNN being the only network to cut prematurely to Jeffries.

“Ok but” the show concisely told CNN alongside the split video.

It appeared CNN Communications did not have a comeback to the long-running comedy show.

Out Magazine slams Pete Buttigieg for past volunteering for ‘homophobic’ Salvation Army

Out Magazine went after South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg over his past volunteering for the Salvation Army, a charity that regularly has faced allegations of homophobia.

In a piece published Tuesday, Out senior staff writer Rose Dommu reported how photos from 2017 “resurfaced” showing the mayor appearing in the iconic Salvation Army apron and ringing a bell outside of a restaurant while as he helped raise money for the organization, something he had done in years past.

“The gesture would be super nice of Buttigieg if the Salvation Army didn’t have a well-documented history of discriminating against LGBTQ+ people in need,” Dommu wrote. “In the 1990s, the Salvation Army dodged a San Francisco ordinance requiring government-affiliated businesses to offer benefits to workers with same-sex partners by citing exemption on religious grounds. In 2012, Salvation Army spokesperson George Hood claimed that same-sex relationships go “against the will of God.” The organization has also referred website visitors to conversion therapy groups and circulated internal memos opposing marriage equality.”

Dommu acknowledged how Salvation Army Communications Director David Jolley told Out last month that the charity “evolved [in its] approach” in helping the LGBT community, citing its efforts of having dorms exclusively for transgender people, a detox facility in San Franciso for HIV/AIDS patients, and helping transgender sex-trafficking victims in Baltimore.

“While that’s all admirable, it’s still fighting against decades of persecution and intolerance justified by religion,” Dommu continued. “Even famously homophobic chicken peddlers Chick-fil-A recently severed its relationship with the Salvation Army, and when you’re gay and less sensitive about anti-queerness than Chick-fil-A, that’s pretty bleak.”

The reporter went on, “Maybe Pete Buttigieg should have supported an organization that was created to cater to the needs of queer people — there’s plenty of them!”

Critics and some members of the LGBT community hit back on social media.

“The @SalvationArmyUS is not ‘homophobic,'” Federalist senior contributor Chad Felix Greene wrote. “At this point LGBT media is just spreading bigotry and hatred.”

“It’s a charity that helps poor people you bleeping idiots,” Washington Examiner’s Brad Polumbo reacted.

However, Buttigieg wasn’t the only candidate with ties to the Salvation Army. Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., held a “signature drive” at the Salvation Army Lewis Center in Indiana. The organization made the largest campaign contributions to her and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt. during the 2020 election cycle, both over $1,800, according to OpenSecrets.org. The charity also donated to the presidential campaigns of former Vice President Joe Biden, Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, D-Hawaii, and tech businessman Andrew Yang as well as the senate campaigns of Cory Booker, D-N.J., Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., and Kamala Harris, D-Calif.

Booker also paid a visit to the Salvation Army in 2013 in Atlantic City.

Neither Out Magazine nor Dommu immediately responded to Fox News’ request for comment. The Buttigieg campaign also declined comment.

The world’s top leaders at the NATO summit in London appear to be laughing at the expense of President Trump in a video that surfaced on Tuesday night.

In a video shared by the Canadian Broadcasting Company (CBC), Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, and French President Emmanuel Macron are seen with others, including Princess Anne, having a conversation at a reception at the Buckingham Palace about a press conference earlier in the day.

Trump had made an impromptu conference and weighed in on the ongoing impeachment inquiry as well as the fiery exchange he had with Macron over France not taking back any ISIS fighters.

“Is that why you were late?” Boris smirked to Macron.

“He was late because he takes a 40 minute press conference off the top- ‘Oh, ya, ya ya,'” Trudeau said, later adding, “You just watched his team’s jaws drop to the floor.”

The video went viral on social media, many assuming the world leaders were talking about Trump.

“Can’t get over this video, both for the fact that POTUS hates the thought of anyone laughing at him and for the fact that he long used “other countries are laughing at us” as an attack against his predecessors,” New York Times reporter Maggie Haberman reacted.

“This happens at every NATO summit with Trump. Every G7. Every G20. The US President is mocked by US allies behind his back,” political commentator Ian Bremmer wrote.

Earlier, Macron and Trump clashed over ISIS fighters.

“I have not spoken to the president about that — would you like some nice ISIS fighters?” he asked Macron, when asked about ISIS fighters from Europe captured in Syria. “I can give them to you, you can take every one you want.”

After Macron’s answer, in which he urged Trump to “be serious” and called for a broader push against ISIS overall, Trump took another swipe.

“This is why he’s a great politician, because that’s one of the greatest non-answers I’ve ever heard,” Trump joked.

‘The View’ dishes on Twitter feud between the Conways, Sunny Hostin predicts a divorce

The daytime stars of “The View” speculated Tuesday on what they called the “really sick relationship” between Counselor to the President Kellyanne Conway and her husband George Conway after he took direct aim at his wife on Twitter, with one host predicting they will split up.

On Monday, Kellyanne Conway had some fun at the expense of former Vice President Joe Biden after a 2017 video clip showed him describing how children would rub his leg hair back when he was a lifeguard at a Delaware pool in his younger days.

“I got hairy legs that turned … blonde in the sun. And the kids used to come up and reach into the pool and rub my leg down so it was straight and watch the hair come back up again,” Biden recalled. He then said he “learned about kids jumping on my lap, and I loved kids jumping on my lap.”

Conway hit the 2020 Democratic frontrunner, insisting “Sleepy Joe is Creepy Joe.”

“We need Ukraine’s help to defeat THIS guy?” the White House aide asked.

Minutes later, her husband responded: “Your boss apparently thought so.”

“Now, what’s going on with those two?” Joy Behar opened the discussion.

“They’re gonna get a divorce,” Sunny Hostin replied.

Guest host Ronan Farrow called the public feud between the Conways “delightful,” laughing about how Kellyanne Conway often “disparages” her husband during interviews and claiming that she “does not understand” the concept of “off the record.”

Meanwhile, Meghan McCain pulled no punches in her assessment of the couple.

“I think that they have a really sick relationship,” McCain said. “I think this is a sick thing to do. You have four kids at home and they’re going to read this someday … The idea that me and my husband would be somehow feuding with each other over our work, I just think it’s gross. I don’t know why America has to be subjected to their marital problems.”

“It’s divorce in plain sight!” Hostin doubled down. “That’s what it is. It’s divorce negotiations in plain sight.”

Behar, however, had a different theory.

“I think it gets them hot, I do,” Behar told the panel, sparking some laughter from the audience. “I think it turns them on. They love it!”
