Bozell & Graham: Trump’s record is undeniable but partisan ‘fact-checkers’ want to clutter it with asterisks

Under President Donald Trump, the State of the Union address has become the Super Bowl for the left-leaning “fact-checkers.” It doesn’t matter if Republicans and independents enjoyed it immensely. Like House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, these journalists want to rip his speech to pieces because it somehow overflows with “untruths.”

But these supposedly “independent” guardians are failures at fact-checking the Democratic Party response, offered this year by Gretchen Whitmer, who was elected governor of Michigan in 2018. Let’s do a quick roundup of the “fact-checker” focus.

— The Associated Press, as usual, obsessed only about the POTUS under the headline “Trump’s exaggerated ‘great American comeback.'” They offered nine checks on Trump’s veracity and zero fact checks on Whitmer.

TAMMY BRUCE: DEMOCRATS SHOW US WHAT A COMPLETE MELTDOWN LOOKS LIKE

– The Washington Post — under fact-checker extraordinaire Glenn Kessler, who insists he has a running count of more than 16,200 “false or misleading claims” by President Trump — offered 31 checks of Trump and zero of Whitmer.

— PolitiFact offered 21 evaluations of Trump’s speech and nothing on Whitmer. In fact, PolitiFact has no page on Whitmer. It has never evaluated her. (It does have a page for “Snooki” of MTV’s “Jersey Shore.”)

What the fact-checkers are doing is littering achievements with asterisks, trying to distract from the undeniable fact that unemployment is at record lows for blacks, Hispanics, women, the disabled and undoubtedly other groups Democrats claim to champion.

– FactCheck.org offered 14 checks of Trump and one sentence on how Whitmer was wrong to say that wages “stagnated” under Trump.

– The New York Times stacked up 36 evaluations of Trump’s speech and then offered two on Whitmer, one of which included the wage-stagnation garbage.

Somehow these last two outlets get to look more “fair and balanced” by merely bowing to the notion that the Democratic response isn’t a perfectly shaped bouquet of truth. Add up all these evaluations and Trump had 111 fact checks to Whitmer’s three.

Trump loves to boast and exaggerate, so it’s easy to throw out little “Pinocchio” ratings when Trump claims we have the lowest black unemployment rate in American history since it’s only been measured since 1972. But it’s literally the lowest ever measured in American history. What the fact-checkers are doing is littering achievements with asterisks, trying to distract from the undeniable fact that unemployment is at record lows for blacks, Hispanics, women, the disabled and undoubtedly other groups Democrats claim to champion.

David Harsanyi at National Review offered a terrific article just taking apart The Washington Post fact check, calling these fact-checkers “janissaries of the Obama legacy.” (Buckley hat tip for the $10 word.) Harsanyi noted that The Post “mentions Obama 13 times in a piece about Trump’s speech.” What resulted was “a litany of partisan arguments masquerading as factual correctives.”

The best part was Harsanyi’s amazement at The Post’s evaluation of this Trump statement: “Thanks to our bold regulatory-reduction campaign, the United States has become the number-one producer of oil and natural gas in the world, by far.” It’s true that America became No. 1 in former President Obama’s second term. But does Obama deserve credit?

Obama ran for president promising to inhibit energy production, coal and oil. A Republican Congress and the Supreme Court foiled his plans. Harsanyi observes: “It’s quite the trick to not only censure Trump for bragging about oil and gas production but then, in the same fact check, confer on all the credit on Obama, who did everything in his power — including banning drilling on most public lands — to inhibit exploration and production.”

Did these Obama defenders gear up to attack Obama’s State of the Union addresses? A quick peek at Obama’s speech in 2012, his reelection year, found PolitiFact could only muster three fact checks of Obama — and two of Sen. Marco Rubio’s Republican rebuttal — compared with its 21-0 smacking of Trump.

Someone should fact-check PolitiFact boss Angie Drobnic Holan every time she claims, “PolitiFact seeks to present true facts, unaffected by agenda or biases.” That deserves a “Pants on Fire.”

L. Brent Bozell: Rush Limbaugh is our True North — we listen to him to understand the world

Westlake Legal Group image L. Brent Bozell: Rush Limbaugh is our True North — we listen to him to understand the world L. Brent Bozell III fox-news/politics fox-news/opinion fox-news/health/cancer fox-news/entertainment/media fox news fnc/opinion fnc f6d183cd-f3fd-5792-aa08-84fb967fcc2a article

The news just broke, and an entire movement is in shock. At this writing, the severity of Rush Limbaugh’s cancer is not disclosed, but any lung cancer is serious and when it’s advanced it’s a grave situation. There are tens of millions of Americans praying tonight for him tonight (and by the way, they’re not all conservatives).

Why the national state of shock?

I was introducing Rush at an event not too long ago and I decided to say publicly what I’ve told him privately several times. I know it makes him uncomfortable to hear it but it’s true. It’s a pretty simple proposition, really, a test of any man’s value: Where would the world be without you?

RUSH LIMBAUGH ANNOUNCES HE HAS ‘ADVANCED LUNG CANCER’

Apply that test to Rush and I conclude that the conservative movement would not be alive today but for him.

Rush is — not was, is! — a giant. Consider that his radio show has been going for over 32 years, and for the entire time he’s been #1. It’s almost incomprehensible. There are other giants in this field and behind them many times more, dozens upon dozens who could be the best. But they’re not. Year after year, for over three decades, he’s bested everyone. Why?

Let me offer a few reasons.

He is unapologetically the True North for an entire movement, the clarion call of personal liberty, a champion of national defense and a defender of a civil society. Millions around the country turn their radios on at noon every day, as they have week after week, month after month, year after year, to hear his take on whatever current event is dominant, knowing he’ll always come through.

The good he’ll applaud with style, the bad he’ll eviscerate if necessary. There are five words every conservative has heard countless times. “Did you hear Rush today?”

He can out-analyze anyone. I’ve kidded him that he reminds me of the old V-8 commercial where the person realizes there’s something he’s missed, and then slaps his forehead with the famous, “I should have had a V-8!” line. In Rush’s case, it’s his ability to take an analysis one step further than everyone else.

During the second Gulf War, there was growing opposition to America’s involvement in that part of the world and many on the left saw the opportunity. I recall Rush analyzing the situation. a) If Iraq becomes another Vietnam, American public opinion will turn against the war; b) If public opinion turns against the war, as with Vietnam, America would be forced to withdraw; and c) The humiliation would lead the left to political victory; therefore d) The left wants America defeated.

Many said that on their shows, but then Rush took it one step further. The only way for America to lose this war is for there to be the endless reports of casualties, therefore e) The left wants Americans to die. It was the logical progression of thought for him, and a “V-8” moment for everyone else.

He is genuine. Rush is worth gazillions and could walk away from the microphone any day, except he really can’t. His audience is his lifeblood. He’ll prepare for his show, but unless it’s a skit, nothing he delivers has been prepared beforehand. He can be passionately upset about something or he might find great humor in it, mercilessly poking fun at his enemies. He can be introspective, quietly discussing and sharing personal issues, or he can choose to be bombastic and braggadocious. He can put on an act but he’s never an act. It is why he’s not just beloved, but trusted by millions.

More from Opinion

He is humble. I know, I know. “Talent on loan from God” and all that. But that’s schtick, not Rush. He amazes me with a humility I’ve witnessed time and again for decades. I could give you endless examples, but I’ll share one. Rush’s drug addiction scandal and arrest in 2006 was unquestionably humiliating, and when I asked him to make a surprise appearance at one of my MRC Dishonors Galas, he was understandably nervous. It would be his first public outing. But he agreed.

We went through the act that night, and when Rush walked on to the stage, the crowd gasped — and then erupted, leaping to their feet, 1,000 people roaring their support. Rush came backstage afterward somewhat stunned. “They gave me a standing ovation!” he said almost in disbelief.

Now let’s put those four elements in the blender. There is a reason why he has over 20 million people tuning into him weekly and why, at dinnertime they tell their families what Rush said that day. There’s a reason every conservative leader wants Rush’s attention and favor. There’s a reason the left despises him. More than any man alive, from either side of the political divide, Rush penetrates. To listen to Rush is to understand the world. More, it’s to understand oneself.

I never tire of this one. Back in, oh, 1989, after I’d undergone a back operation, I received a call from an old girlfriend of ours from our college days. “I just heard!” she said. How sweet. I hadn’t talked to Ruth in years. I tried to explain that it was no big deal. “But I just heard!” she said again, even more emphatically. I replied that look, this back surgery was rather routine, no big deal at all, and please not to worry. “What back surgery?” she asked, confused. “I wanted you to know I just heard Rush Limbaugh!”

Tens of millions of Americans are praying for Rush tonight. Let us hope those supplications continue tomorrow. Rush may be our True North, but he’s also an anchor. Listen to him and somehow the world makes sense. We need that now more than ever.

I have a heavy heart tonight. Rush, old friend, you’re in my prayers too.

Bozell & Graham: Throughout Trump impeachment sham our liberal media has been a gaggle of hypocrites

One favorite tactic of our “objective” media during the impeachment of President Donald Trump is to find a clip of the president’s legal experts such as Ken Starr and Alan Dershowitz expressing an opinion during the 1998-99 impeachment of Bill Clinton and then show a contrast with the present day.

But this is just as easily demonstrated with the press. It’s not surprising that Democrats and Republicans favor or oppose impeachment based on the party of the president in the dock. It should be surprising that our supposedly nonpartisan journalists flip to whichever talking points are in use by the Democrats.

That makes the press a gaggle of hypocrites.

TOM DEL BECCARO: TRUMP IMPEACHMENT ILLUSTRATES SERIOUS DANGER OF CRIMINALIZATION OF POLITICS

Back in 1998, Newsweek’s Eleanor Clift spoke for the vast majority of the press from her chair on “The McLaughlin Group.” Before the House voted to impeach Clinton, she warned, “If the Republicans want to go ahead and do this, I think they disgrace themselves in a more profound way than President Clinton has by abusing the machinery of impeachment, knowing full well that the Senate will hold a sham trial and they will be, in effect, delivered of this ridiculous conclusion.”

Over and over again, these network “news” stars lamented that the House impeachment vote and the Senate impeachment trial of President Clinton were a “sham” and a horrible “distraction” from the people’s business. They said small-minded Republican Clinton haters were obsessed with sex — and never mind the actual charges of perjury and obstruction of justice.

Two days after the House impeached Clinton, NBC’s “Today” show tag team spewed outrage at that president’s fate. Co-host Katie Couric lectured Sen. Mitch McConnell, asking why he was so convinced there would be a speedy Senate trial. “Because many people have been talking about a long, protracted trial taking attention away from the important issues in this country that people really care about?” she said.

Then there was NBC’s Matt Lauer, who brought on former House Speaker Jim Wright, who resigned in disgrace in 1989 over a corrupt scheme of selling crates of his book to lobbying groups. Lauer said: “Speaker Wright, let me start with you. When you resigned nine years ago, you had been battered by the right. You called for an end to what you called, ‘mindless cannibalism.’ Nine years later, we’re hearing terms like that again, and others swirling around the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Have we learned nothing in nine years?”

One thing we all do know is Matt Lauer learned absolutely nothing from Clinton about sexual harassment in the workplace.

The networks today tout the Democratic House managers as so incredibly diverse and worldly-wise and then mock the Republican House managers of 1999 as stale, pale and male.

They marched to that beat back then, too. On the “CBS Evening News,” reporter Phil Jones was the publicist. “Democrats believe House managers are conservative zealots, and some Republicans agree,” he said. He turned to Rep. Peter King, who proclaimed, “It’s a very hardcore group … very hard-nosed and determined to get Bill Clinton.”

Jones elaborated: “(T)he impeachment managers are strikingly alike. All 13 are white, all 13 males, all 13 Christians, all 13 lawyers.” King added that “they live in an echo chamber.”

We all lived in an echo chamber. It was called ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, PBS, et cetera. They promoted one another in warning of a “vast right-wing conspiracy” against the heroic liberal president.

Journalists constantly moan that their credibility is shot and blame “anti-media” messages from Trump and the conservative media. Not so. They’ve lost the public’s respect all by themselves. They had every opportunity to avoid dreadfully obvious partisan flip-flopping on this impeachment. Instead, they flagrantly indulged their Democratic buddies all over again.

Our media elites arrogantly lecture about our democracy being undermined by robotic propaganda, but do they ever listen to themselves talk about the Democrats? Somehow, they think their robotic propaganda is just the “truth.” The press came to witness the Senate impeachment trial, and Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., had them at hello.

No member of Congress has been more dramatically partisan in this war on the Trump presidency than Schiff. Did you know he’s the second coming of Abraham Lincoln at Gettysburg? Check out this list of the media’s responses to his opening statement at the trial.

1.”I think it’ll go down as one of the great performances … He just shreds the other side every time he gets up,” claimed MSNBC’s Jonathan Alter.

HARMEET DHILLON: TRUMP IMPEACHMENT — IF SCHIFF WERE A PROSECUTOR, HE’D BE IN SERIOUS TROUBLE

2. On CNN, Wolf Blitzer declared it was “a very, very powerful and forceful speech … a very, very strong case from Adam Schiff.”

3. CNN legal analyst Jeffrey Toobin called it “dazzling … really remarkable” and said, “It was the second-best courtroom address, since it’s like a courtroom, that I ever heard.”

More from Opinion

4. On Twitter, Washington Post reporter Greg Miller oozed, “the way he has handled impeachment will leave a mark on history, exceeding nearly all contemporaries.”

5. Washington Post writer Jennifer Rubin wrote a valentine to Schiff’s “grand slam” with the headline “Adam Schiff’s Brilliant Presentation Is Knocking Down Excuses to Acquit.”

6. ABC’s Terry Moran said: “It was meticulous and well-organized. It was grounded in evidence, which he recited and arranged … in a comprehensive narrative. At times, he tried to rise to a level of eloquence and stir a sense of responsibility for the Senate.”

7.  MSNBC’s Jason Johnson insisted Schiff wasn’t just talking to senators: “He was speaking to 100 years in the future. This is a speech that kids are going to be giving in 2060 … at university projects.”

8. CNN’s Paul Begala seconded that emotion: “I believe what Adam Schiff said yesterday is going to be studied 40 or 50 years from now.”

9. MSNBC lovebirds Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski echoed each other in adoring Schiff’s “virtuoso performance.”

Then these people wonder why Americans watch Fox News instead! To love Schiff’s case, you have to believe that a single phone call from the president to the Ukrainian president is somehow an impeachable offense on the level of abuse of power and obstruction of the House.

What’s entirely missing from this tsunami of saccharine sentiments is an important counterargument. Schiff has lied and manipulated this entire process. Schiff’s staff was working with the “whistleblower” in August, before his complaint was filed. But then Schiff lied shamelessly on MSNBC on Sept. 17, saying, “We have not spoken directly with the whistleblower.” Two days later, he lied again when he thanked Michael Atkinson, the inspector general for the intelligence community, without whom he “might not have even known there was a whistleblower complaint.”

The “fact-checkers” actually tagged Schiff on this, but how serious was their evaluation? Consider this: PolitiFact was founded in 2007, and this was the first time it has ever found an error in his statements. Since 2012, Sen. Ted Cruz has been subjected to 143 fact-checks, while Schiff has two.

The dishonesty of Schiff emerged again during the trial, as when he mischaracterized text messages from Ukraine-scandal figure Lev Parnas to Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani. As usual, the Schiff-adoring networks skipped right over his lies.

But they lecture us about the integrity of democracy.

Bozell & Graham: Trump impeachment charade is really about protecting the Bidens from any scrutiny

President Trump’s impeachment trial should have begun with an indictment of the media. The alleged crime committed by Trump revolves around his request that the president of Ukraine investigate Hunter Biden’s shady business dealings with a corrupt Ukrainian oil and gas company when Joe Biden was vice president.

That investigation might have been unnecessary had the news media chosen to do what they’re supposed to do: investigative journalism.

Why would Trump have to ask a foreign official for an investigation into Biden sleaze? Because when politicians have a “D” next to their name, the idea of the press holding people accountable goes out the window.

GREG GUTFELD ATTACKS MEDIA FOR DRIVING ‘MEGXIT’ DECISION: ‘THEY RUIN EVERYTHING’

It is unfathomable that the American news media would choose not to investigate the activities of the vice president of the United States. Joe Biden used his portfolio of experience running then-President Obama’s policies in Ukraine to get his son a “consulting” job for which he was wholly unqualified but that reportedly paid him a cool 50 grand a month. Then Biden bragged in public that he demanded Ukraine’s top prosecutor be removed under threat of America pulling its military aid. The whole thing was stained by his son’s business connection.

No one can question Hunter Biden on anything. This is not the way the media and the Democrats have treated Donald Trump Jr., or Eric Trump, or Ivanka Trump.

Maybe somehow they all just missed it. Except they didn’t. They knew it was happening.

Then-New York Times investigative reporter James Risen published the story of Hunter Biden and the oil company, Burisma Holdings, in December 2015. But The Times buried it by putting it on page A-22. The national media yawned. In their political calculations, Joe Biden wasn’t running for president, and since it was Lame Duck season, why make the Obama-Biden White House look bad?

Ever since Trump’s asking about Hunter Biden in a phone call to Kiev became a scandal, our Accountability Police have routinely repeated like a dancing line of puppets that there is “no evidence the Bidens did anything wrong.”

Democrats and their media friends also play dumb when Republicans insist Hunter Biden should be part of the Senate impeachment trial. On the Sunday network news shows, moderators asked Democrats for their feelings about Biden being a witness in the trial. Their answers needed a laugh track.

On ABC, Sen. Cory Booker, D-N.J., told George Stephanopoulos with a straight face, “These assaults on the Biden family are not relevant to what’s at issue in this case.” On CNN, Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, sounded like he had a low IQ. “I don’t know what Hunter Biden has to do with the phone call,” he said.

More from Opinion

It’s not that he doesn’t know. It’s that he, like Booker, doesn’t want to know.

This entire impeachment is about protecting the Biden family from any scrutiny or criticism. So asking questions about the Bidens becomes a scandal and is somehow a massive attempt to despoil the 2020 election. Democracy dies when the Bidens are asked questions?

At least Rep. Jerry Nadler, D-N.Y., tried a slightly different spin on CBS, and it was even more brazen. He insisted, “Hunter Biden has no knowledge of the accusations against the president.” How exactly does Nadler know that? Has Hunter Biden been living in a cave for the last few months? Nadler’s whopper set up his next statement: “Their asking for Hunter Biden is just more of a smear of Hunter Biden that the president is trying to get the Ukraine to do.”

Bozell & Graham: The Hulk on Capitol Hill – when actors play scientists for Congress

Westlake Legal Group 052316_do_ruffalo_1280 Bozell & Graham: The Hulk on Capitol Hill – when actors play scientists for Congress Tim Graham L. Brent Bozell III fox-news/us/congress fox-news/politics/elections/house-of-representatives fox-news/opinion fnc/opinion fnc Creators Syndicate article 6df6722d-8146-5c17-b101-a67f6909d443

Celebrity testimony is an age-old political stunt on Capitol Hill. If you want the press at your hearing, you lunge at the chance to have a star athlete, or a famous singer or actor, bring some zing to your issue. Democrats do this better because they have a lot more friends in Hollywood and they’re always more willing to push the envelope with silliness. When you want to push your agenda on agriculture to the left and you need attention, you get Jane Fonda, Jessica Lange and Sissy Spacek to testify. Their credentials? They all starred in movies about agriculture.

Another example of this happened on Nov. 19 when the House Oversight and Reform subcommittee on environment, chaired by Rep. Harley Rouda, D-Calif., called upon the Bernie Sanders-backing actor Mark Ruffalo to testify on perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl chemicals, or “PFAS.”

These chemicals are used for many everyday uses. “(T)hey keep food from sticking to cookware, make clothes and carpets resistant to stains, and create firefighting foam,” the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences reports. But these chemicals have leached into soil and water and air, and they show up in the bloodstream. So there’s a real policy debate there.

KATHIE LEE GIFFORD SAYS LATE HUSBAND FRANK ‘MIGHT HAVE HAD A LITTLE SOMETHING’ TO DO WITH KIDS GETTING ENGAGED

But Ruffalo doesn’t have a college degree in chemistry. He doesn’t have a college degree in anything. He has only played scientist Dr. Bruce Banner (“The Hulk”) in the “Avengers” movies.

At least those actresses were honored in the ’80s as experts for movies that had already come and gone in theatres. Ruffalo is starring in a movie about evil chemical companies called “Dark Waters,” which opens in limited release three days after his star appearance on the Hill. Distributed by NBCUniversal’s Focus Features brand, it’s based on the real-life lawsuits against DuPont by an activist lawyer named Rob Bilott.

Rep. Fred Keller, R-Pa., underlined this stunt. “The majority has called as their star witness an actor. That’s right, an actor,” he said. “An actor with no medical, no scientific or research expertise except for a few scenes as Dr. Bruce Banner. An actor that has a record of anti-business activism. More importantly to Mr. Ruffalo … an actor with a movie premiering this week that attacks private-sector job creators with loose facts and hyped-up emotional rhetoric.”

Loose facts? Emotional rhetoric?

Consider this: In 2016, Virginia Tech professor Dr. Marc Edwards ripped Ruffalo as an “A-List actor but F-List scientist” for the “fear and misinformation” created by Ruffalo’s activist group, Water Defense. The subject was the water quality in Flint, Mich. Edwards is credited for helping to expose the lead contamination problem in Flint. Then-President Obama reassured Flint residents that the water was safe to drink after they switched back to Detroit-sourced water, but Ruffalo and his leftist group shamelessly continued to claim that the water was unsafe for showering or bathing.

Ruffalo’s real credential for the House Democrats is his socialist ideology. He has publicly endorsed Jeremy Corbyn, the nut who called Karl Marx a “great economist,” for British prime minister. Radical Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib were gushing over Ruffalo in this committee hearing. Tlaib told the movie star: “I think what you said is exactly what we need to do in Congress. … Corporate greed is tainting our democracy.”

This actor has an estimated net worth of $30 million. Corporate greed has been very good to him.

Another Ruffalo supporter in the hearing was Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., former head of the Democratic National Committee. But on Nov. 14, in a different hearing, Schultz decried pro-life activist Allie Beth Stuckey’s being allowed to testify on the brutality of abortion. “I just want to clarify that Stuckey is expressing her own opinion exclusively, and has no scientific or particular expertise in this subject matter whatsoever,” she said.

Stuckey didn’t cling to leftist orthodoxy. So she was unqualified to testify.

Bozell and Graham: ABC, CBS, NBC’s out of control obsession with Trump — Amazing results from our study

As Democrats hold impeachment hearings and the networks preempt their regular programming to help the Democrats ruin President Trump, there is one thing we know. The networks are always and forever going to try to beat this president senseless with negative coverage.

It’s out of control.

The latest study by the Media Research Center’s Rich Noyes finds that during the six weeks since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced the inquiry (Sept. 24 through Nov. 5), “the ABC, CBS and NBC evening newscasts churned out 398 minutes of coverage to the Ukraine scandal.” Important, yes, but it’s “more than three-fifths of all administration news during this period.” It neatly resembles their fiendish obsession with their last “fake news” chapter: Trump and Russia.

JASON CHAFFETZ: WHY SCHIFF’S WHISTLEBLOWER CLAIMS AT TRUMP IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS ARE IMPOSSIBLE TO BELIEVE

Here’s what’s truly amazing. The tone of overall coverage was 96 percent negative. That makes the long-running average of 90 percent look good.

The negativity is both bombastic and shameless. On Oct. 29, “CBS Evening News” anchor Norah O’Donnell touted “bombshell impeachment testimony” in her opening tease and then turned to the first report. “We’re going to begin with that damning impeachment testimony today from a key witness,” she said.

The same night, NBC chief White House correspondent Hallie Jackson also enthusiastically promoted “bombshell testimony” from “a firsthand witness to the explosive conversation that ignited the impeachment inquiry.”

This allegedly dynamite testimony was behind closed doors, and there was no audio or video, but the networks sold it anyway.

The Media Research Center also reports that Joe Biden bizarrely received the best press of his campaign (71 percent positive), as reporters robotically repeated the mantra that “there is no evidence of any wrongdoing” by Biden or his profiteering son Hunter Biden in Ukraine. Trump bad, Bidens good.

And they have no interest in pursuing the one question Republicans keep asking: What did Hunter Biden do in return for 50 grand per month?

These networks can’t find time for any good news for this president, or for the country. Despite a 50-year low in the unemployment rate and record stock market highs, Trump’s handling of the economy was almost completely squashed. Facts about the booming economy drew just 4 minutes and 6 seconds of coverage during these six weeks. That’s less than 1 percent of all news on the Trump administration.

Here’s the one that puts everything in its proper perspective. ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was the world’s most dangerous terrorist — was. The U.S. commander in chief took him out. How did the media cover his role in it? The tone was 67 percent negative! They criticized him for anything they could find, from his refusal to brief congressional leaders to his swaggering commentary on how this foul terrorist died disgracefully by blowing himself up.

NBC News correspondent Courtney Kube speculated and said, “It’s possible that President Trump’s bellicose language about the manner in which he died could actually inspire some ISIS fighters to retaliate.” And it’s possible that NBC’s perennially bellicose language against the Republicans could backfire.

So, let’s repeat. The economy is going gangbusters. We beheaded the leadership of ISIS. And President Trump’s overall evening-news coverage was 96 percent negative. How can they look into the teleprompters with a straight face?

Bozell and Graham: Democrats and media collude to impeach Trump and remove him from office

The partisans at The Washington Post pretended in a front-page Sunday “news” article that somehow, President Trump was losing his marbles in rage, going “beyond his often-untethered bounds.”

Readers were supposed to be highly disturbed about the president’s mental state after learning he held a raucous rally in Minneapolis and said supposedly crazy things like how the Democrats are carrying out “a brazen attempt to overthrow our government.”

What is this attempt to impeach and remove Trump, if not overthrow him? Democrats might argue that even if Trump were removed, Vice President Mike Pence would remain and, thus, there would be a continuum.

CNN LAUGHS OFF TRUMP’S CLAIM THAT BOSS JEFF ZUCKER COULD WALK AWAY FROM NETWORK

But does anyone believe Democrats would be satisfied with that? The Post recently published a kooky article laying out how it could also take down Pence and make House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., president.

Pelosi placed House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff in charge of this impeachment attempt, and the whole thing is getting stranger and more secretive by the hour.

First we were told that an allegedly patriotic whistleblower must testify to underline how Trump committed some kind of impeachable high crime on a phone call with the president of Ukraine. This whistleblower wasn’t even present at the scene of the supposed crime.

There’s an obvious reason why this alleged hero’s identity has been obscured. It was reported that he worked with Joe Biden in the White House on Ukraine issues. A story worth explaining? The whole scheme began to look like a Democratic plot. And suddenly, the incessant pro-impeachment media went dark on their central figure.

The whistleblower’s testimony was no longer the piece de Resistance. Pardon the pun.

Susan Ferrechio at the Washington Examiner noted that Republicans planned to ask this whistleblower all kinds of questions about when he met with Schiff’s staff and how they coordinated. “But it is appearing more likely Republicans will never have the chance to ask the whistleblower any questions at all about how closely he worked with Schiff’s team,” she said.

Even some of the liberal “fact-checkers” felt pressed to admit Schiff lied when he claimed on national TV that he and his staff never met with this whistleblower. Clearly, he doesn’t want any more questions about how coordinated this impeachment plot is.

A GOP source told the Examiner: “At some point, both Schiff and the whistleblower came to the conclusion that his personal testimony stands to do more harm than good to both of them.”

The backpedaling has been furious. Schiff appeared on CBS’ “Face the Nation” and said that “given that we already have the call record, we don’t need the whistleblower who wasn’t on the call to tell us what took place during the call.”

Both Schiff and Margaret Brennan of CBS agreed the most important priority of this probe is keeping the identity of the whistleblower a secret – without questioning for a moment how that could be considered fair to the president, who’s the subject of the impeachment inquiry.

Imagine the Republicans had tried to impeach then-President Bill Clinton in 1998 for some phone call he made to a foreign leader, and that they’d said they had an anonymous whistleblower who never heard Clinton’s phone call. The press would have mocked all of it as an enormous waste of time and money and a huge distraction from the legislative “business of the people.”

The media’s completely different and partisan reaction to this only underlines how much collusion goes on between the journalists and the Democrats. They’re hard to distinguish from one another. They use all the same talking points and catchphrases. They’ve had a shared goal of impeaching Trump since the day he was inaugurated. There is no balance or fairness in anything the media “reports” on this brazen attempt to overthrow this administration.

Bozell and Graham: NBA grovels and makes spineless concession to China’s brutally repressive regime

The National Basketball Association found itself in the middle of a political firestorm of its own making when the Houston Rockets’ general manager tweeted something simple and admirable: “Fight for Freedom. Stand with Hong Kong.”

The NBA’s first statement was cowardly. It began: “We recognize that the views expressed by… Daryl Morey have deeply offended many of our friends and fans in China, which is regrettable.”

Morey buckled and deleted his tweet. The NBA then went overseas to grovel.

POMPEO CALLS FOUL ON NBA’S CHINA TREATMENT

A statement posted on the NBA’s Weibo social media network in China stated that it was “extremely disappointed in the inappropriate comment,” and as a result, Morey “has undoubtedly seriously hurt the feelings of Chinese basketball fans.”

More from Opinion

China is a huge and lucrative market for the NBA. If business means turning your back on freedom while defending one of the most brutally repressive regimes in human history – so be it.

That abject surrender, that spineless concession to a government now shooting pro-democracy protesters in the streets drew near-universal condemnation in America, ranging in Washington from conservative Sen. Ted Cruz to socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

So the NBA commissioner, Adam Silver, readjusted to insist the league would not discourage athletes or executives from speaking freely. “We are not apologizing for Daryl exercising his freedom of expression” – which is disingenuous. That is exactly what all of the NBA’s “extremely disappointed” remarks implied.

And the duplicity continued. In Philadelphia, a 76ers fan named Sam Wachs and his wife brought a pair of signs that read “Free Hong Kong” and “Free HK” as the Sixers took on the Guangzhou Loong Lions, a Chinese Basketball Association team.

Wachs said he lived in Hong Kong for two years, so he sympathized with the protests. First, security confiscated the signs. When the couple yelled “Free Hong Kong” during the second quarter, Wachs said they were removed from the game.

Then the same Chinese team played the Washington Wizards in D.C., and the routine repeated itself. Several fans standing with a sign reading “Free Hong Kong” and “Google: Uighurs” had them confiscated prior to the game. (The Uighurs are a Muslim minority in northwestern China, with an estimated 1 million people held in concentration camps.)

The NBA now doesn’t want to be political. But it’s been very political on the home front, when it has suited its purposes, which is to say, when it placates the left.

The league moved the 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte over a North Carolina law that in government offices, transgender people should use the bathroom of their gender “assigned at birth.”

The NBA commissioner criticized President Trump’s travel ban on people from seven Muslim countries as going “against the fundamental values and the fundamental ingredients of what makes for a great NBA.”

The NBA allowed players to wear “I can’t breathe” shirts to protest police after Eric Garner suffocated while laying down on the sidewalk in New York.

National Review’s Jim Geraghty underlined the hypocrisy: “Apparently the NBA is fine with protesting American police brutality, but not Hong Kong police brutality.”

Speaking of American police brutality, nobody’s found Colin Kaepernick saying anything about China’s grip on the NBA.

The man with the Nike sneaker-selling slogan of “Believe in something. Even if it means sacrificing everything,” is silent while Nike orders the removal of all the Houston Rockets merchandise from its stores in China. Apparently, America is still the most horrible country in the world that was founded on racism, slavery and genocide.
