MSNBC’s Chris Matthews forced to apologize after likening executive privilege to losing virginity

MSNBC’s Chris Matthews has apologized after bizarrely comparing the use of executive privilege to losing one’s virginity during an interview with Sen. Kamala Harris following Attorney General Bill Barr’s testimony.

The network’s star made the 2020 Democratic candidate visibly uncomfortable by making the comparison during a Wednesday discussion about Barr saying White House counsel Don McGahn may not be able to testify if President Trump invokes executive privilege.

LEAKED MUELLER LETTER LEADS TO BARR GRILLING IN HYPERPARTISAN HEARING

“I guess the question is once he’s testified before Mr. Mueller’s special counsel investigation, how can he now say I won’t make the same testimony in public claiming executive privilege. I think it is sort of like virginity, kinda,” Matthews said.

“Once you start talking about a matter in your jurisdiction and then you say, ‘oh, I’m not doing it anymore.’ You can’t do it once you’ve started talking. I understand that’s how executive privilege works. Once you have given it up, you can’t grab it back. How do you see it?”

Harris, looking rather awkward, replied: “I’m not going to go with you on that metaphor, Chris.”

BARR ACCUSES DEMS OF USING CRIMINAL JUSTICE PROCESS AS ‘POLITICAL WEAPON,’ AS HEARING TENSIONS FLARE

Shortly after the exchange, Matthews had to come back to it to issue an on-air apology for the inappropriate comparison.

“I’m sorry about that metaphor I used before. I’ve been admonished already about it. So I really shouldn’t have used it in this context, however,” he said.

Matthew’s show “Hardball” pounced following the attorney general’s testimony in front the Senate Judiciary Committee, criticizing Barr for undermining the Robert Mueller report.

He also suggested whether Barr is still “upholding his oath to the Constitution,” and floating the idea of impeachment of the attorney general and Trump.

The hearing came after the Washington Post reported Tuesday evening that Mueller contacted – in a letter and phone call – the attorney general to let him know that his summary “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of the Russia investigation report.

Eric Swalwell roasted after flunking basics of Constitution, getting outraged ‘woman’ not mentioned in founding document

Democratic presidential candidate Eric Swalwell has been roasted after stumbling over his knowledge of the Constitution in a bid to score political points.

Swalwell, a California lawmaker who launched his bid to become the president last month, has been struggling to get a footing in the crowded Democratic primary, with 19 other Democrats overshadowing him in both the money raised and policy ideas.

TREY GOWDY: ‘PRESIDENT ERIC SWALWELL, THAT OUGHT TO SCARE THE EVER-LIVING HELL OUT OF YOU’

But the Congressman remains unabated and has repeatedly courted progressives as his supporters, promising to select a woman as his running mate because he’s a “white man” who knows “where I can’t speak to someone else’s experience.”

On Tuesday, Swalwell ramped up the effort, issuing a tweet reading: “Do you know how many times the word ‘Woman’ is mentioned in the Constitution? Zero.”

“That is unacceptable. Women must be equally represented and equally protected,” he added, advocating for the Equal Right Amendment, a suggested amendment to the Constitution that would guarantee equal legal rights to everyone no matter their sex.

Swalwell’s tweet shortly caused a backlash after many pointed that the word “man” also doesn’t appear in the Constitution.

“Do you know how many times the word ‘Man’ is mentioned in the Constitution? Zero,” fired back the co-founder of the Federalist. “There’s dumb and then there’s ‘can’t read or use CTRL+F before tweeting’ dumb.”

“As a woman I find this so insulting, Eric. You must really think we’re stupid to try and sell this ridiculous rhetoric,” another Twitter user wrote.

SWALWELL REFUSES TO ANSWER TRUMP ‘RUSSIAN ASSET’ QUESTION DESPITE MUELLER REPORT

“It gets exhausting to be constantly told by men what an oppressed victim I am,” seconded writer Kelsey Bolar.

Heritage Foundation’s Amy Swearer meanwhile pointed out that the “The words ‘people,’ ‘person,’ and ‘citizens’ are used dozens of times, and the last time I checked women are all three of those things.”

She added: “It’s patronizing (and worse, dehumanizing) to suggest that we’re not equally people or citizens.”

Still, while Swalwell’s chances in the primary remain low, earlier this week he qualified to the Democratic presidential primary debates after polling at least 1 percent in three polls.

The California Democrat has been a leading proponent of the claim that President Trump and his campaign colluded with the Russian government.

But following the Robert Mueller report that found couldn’t establish such evidence, Swalwell continued to double down and said the president acts in the interests of Russia.

Parents and staff members at a Los Angeles elementary school have voted to keep Michael Jackson’s name on its auditorium despite the recent allegations that the pop icon sexually abused young boys.

Gardner Street Elementary School, which the pop icon himself once attended, will continue to pay tribute to Jackson after the majority of school staffers and parents of students voted in favor of maintaining “Michael Jackson Auditorium” as the name of the facility, school officials said last week.

MICHAEL JACKSON’S CHILDREN INVESTIGATING SEXUAL ABUSE ACCUSERS FOR POTENTIAL FRAUD, EMOTIONAL DISTRESS LAWSUIT

The vote took place in the wake of the recent HBO documentary, “Leaving Neverland,” which featured the disturbing stories of two men – Wade Robson and James Safechuck – who claimed that Jackson sexually abused them when they were boys.

The men first came forward with their stories years earlier in lawsuits. Both had previously denied Jackson sexually abused them, but after having their own children — and after the singer’s death in 2009 — they said they had to face the truth. Their lawsuits were dismissed for technical reasons and their appeals are expected to be argued this summer.

Jackson, who was cleared in 2005 of charges that he molested another boy, admitted that over the years he befriended multiple children. He said he invited some into his bed, but denied molesting any of them.

After the airing of the documentary, a group of parents approached school principal Karen Hollis and asked to take Jackson’s name down from the auditorium, the Los Angeles Times reported.

Other parents objected, arguing that Jackson was never convicted of the alleged crimes and noting that the singer is no longer around to defend himself.

MICHAEL JACKSON ESTATE HITS BACK AT ‘LEAVING NEVERLAND,’ SAYS SEXUAL ABUSE ACCUSERS ARE ‘MOTIVATED BY MONEY’

Even Jackson’s estate inserted itself into the fight to keep the name, with a spokesperson urging the school community to respect Jackson’s right to remain innocent until proven guilty, according to the newspaper.

The auditorium was reportedly named for Jackson in 1989, way before Jackson became dogged by controversies and allegations.

Robson, one of the alleged victims, told the Times before the vote that he commends the school for giving parents a choice.

“I commend Gardner Street School for allowing the parents to decide whether or not Michael Jackson’s name should remain on the auditorium,” Robson said.

President  Trump praised federal immigration officers as “heroes” on Wednesday and blasted Massachusetts district attorneys’ efforts to help illegal migrants evade arrests in the state’s courthouses.

His comments came as state prosecutors, public defenders and other activists in the state filed a lawsuit against U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) earlier this week.

The lawsuit argues that ICE officers should be blocked from using Massachusetts courthouses for arrests of illegal immigrants, saying the courthouses must be the purview of state authorities.

“These are people that probably don’t mind crime, they don’t mind what’s going on,” Trump said during a Boston Herald Radio interview, referring to prosecutors who filed the lawsuit.

“You look at MS-13, they say in the world there’s nothing more evil. These are some very, very bad people. To try and protect them? I don’t think so.”

Suffolk DA Rachael Rollins and Middlesex DA Marian Ryan are at the forefront of the lawsuit against the federal authorities, with Rollins saying “it would be my honor” to be detained for helping illegal immigrants escape ICE agents, according to the Boston Herald.

“Our immigrant community is especially vulnerable when ICE makes our courthouses a place of fear, not justice, for victims. That’s why I’m part of a lawsuit to stop ICE from making arrests in court. We must ensure that our justice system is open to everyone seeking help,” Rollins wrote in a Twitter message Tuesday.

But on the same day the lawsuit was filed, ICE officials reportedly arrested two illegal migrants at courthouses in Suffolk, both of which were linked to criminal groups such as MS-13 or the 18th Street gang.

“What they’ve done to young girls, what they’ve done to women, what they’ve done to others, is just horrible,” Trump said in the interview, pointing to the crimes perpetrated by MS-13.

“So for her to be saying that — she’s got to live with it, she’s got to live with her own conscience,” Trump said of the district attorneys bringing the lawsuit.

MASSACHUSETTS JUDGE WHO HELPED ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT ESCAPE ICE ARREST INDICTED, FEDERAL AUTHORITIES SAY

Trump also referred to the case of Newton District Court Judge Shelley Richmond Joseph, a Massachusetts judge who was indicted for helping a man who was living in the U.S. illegally sneak out a back door of the courthouse to evade a waiting immigration enforcement agent.

“They come from a place that you just can’t really understand,” Trump said. “They’re protecting people that in many cases — and certainly not in all cases — but in many cases are very dangerous people,” he said.

“We have to stop crime in this country,” he continued, noting that “Crime is way down in this country and part of the reason is ICE.”

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has been sentenced to 50 weeks in prison for violating his bail and going into hiding at the Ecuadorian embassy, seven years ago, a sentence that comes just a day before a hearing is set to take place concerning his extradition to the U.S.

Assange was sentenced on Wednesday after his appearance at London’s Southwark Crown Court. After the judge handed the sentence, a group of protesters shouted “shame on you.”

He breached his bail back in 2012 amid threats of extradition to Sweden, where he was wanted for questioning over rape and sexual assault allegations.

In a letter read to the court, Assange said he was “struggling with difficult circumstances” and apologized to those who “consider I’ve disrespected them.”

He added: “I did what I thought at the time was the best or perhaps the only thing that I could have done.”

Judge Deborah Taylor insisted that Assange deserved near the maximum sentence of one year because of the seriousness of his offense. She rejected calls for leniency because of the nearly seven years he spent in the Ecuadorian Embassy.

The Australian founder of WikiLeaks remained defiant and raised a fist in the air to his supporters as he was taken down to the prison.

Assange has been held in prison since his arrest last month after the Ecuadorian authorities revoked his political asylum and kicked him out of the embassy on April 11.

JULIAN ASSANGE’S ARREST DRAWS FIERCE INTERNATIONAL REACTION

The government of Ecuador accused WikiLeaks and Assange of meddling in the country’s politics.

But the sentence on Wednesday is just a sideshow for Assange, who faces the main battle on Thursday.

He’s set to appear at a court hearing on a U.S. extradition request. The U.S. authorities charged Assange with conspiring to break into a Pentagon computer system.

The FBI is investigating a supposed radical far-left Antifa plot to “stage an armed rebellion” and “disrupt U.S. law enforcement and military security operations at the US/Mexican border.”

Word of the probe comes after years of the FBI putting greater emphasis on the threat of Antifa activities, with bureau Director Christopher Wray saying the agency is looking into the ideology and individuals associated with the movement.

PORTLAND ANARCHISTS FLOOD LAWYER’S OFFICE WITH WATER AS ‘WARNING’ FOR REPRESENTING ICE UNION

But according to a December FBI document obtained by the San Diego Union-Tribune, the agency is now tackling actual alleged plots of possible criminal activities that would affect U.S. homeland security.

The FBI report, which wasn’t posted online because the matter is still active, alleged that the anti-fascist activists were looking into buying firearms from a “Mexico-based cartel associate known as Cobra Commander” that would be used to “stage an armed rebellion at the border.”

It also warns that the Antifa activists “planned to disrupt U.S. law enforcement and military security operations at the US/Mexican border.”

The document reportedly was shared with multiple federal agencies, including the Department of Homeland Security, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the CIA and the National Security Administration.

FBI PROBE OF ‘ANTIFA IDEOLOGY’ UNDERWAY, WRAY TELLS HOUSE PANEL

Two law enforcement officials told the Tribune that the investigation is still ongoing but no one has been charged. The leaked document, meanwhile, is an information report supposed to be read only by law enforcement officials, though no security clearance is required.

“This is an information report, not finally evaluated intelligence,” the six-page report states, according to the newspaper. “Receiving agencies are requested not to take action based on this raw reporting without prior coordination with the FBI.”

But two individuals named in the report, Cobra Commander Ivan Riebeling and Evan Duke, say that the alleged plot was unlikely and doesn’t make much sense.

“It doesn’t make any sense that someone in the United States would purchase guns in Mexico,” Riebeling told the Tribune.

New NRA president targets Dem Rep. Lucy McBath, says gun lobby will back anyone running against her

The newly elected president of the National Rifle Association (NRA) pledges to endorse any candidate who opposes the gun-control policies of U.S. Rep. Lucy McBath, D-Ga.

Carolyn Meadows became president of the NRA after internal turmoil led to the resignation of Oliver North following accusations that he tried to pressure executive vice president Wayne LaPierre into resigning amid his criticism of the direction the NRA was taking.

NRA PRESIDENT SAYS HE WON’T SERVE SECOND TERM AMID TURMOIL IN GUN RIGHTS GROUP

But Meadows says she’s won’t dwell too much on the internal problems of the organization and is instead ready to help the group fight off Democrats supporting strict gun control.

Her first target: McBath, a 58-year-old Illinois native who won in Georgia’s 6th Congressional District in the 2018 midterm elections after running on a gun control platform after her son was fatally shot. McBath represents Atlanta’s northern suburbs, where Meadows lives.

“Whoever (runs against McBath) will get an endorsement from the NRA,” Meadows said after arriving home to Georgia following the NRA convention in Indianapolis, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

TRUMP SAYS NRA ‘UNDER SIEGE’ BY DEM OFFICIALS WHO WANT TO ‘DESTROY’ IT

On the issue of internal turmoil at the organization, she was guarded, saying all organizations have their issues. “We are not looking backward. We have 2020 coming up,” she added, in reference to the next presidential election, where virtually all Democratic candidates see tighter gun control as part of their agenda.

Meadows has previously served as a Georgia representative on the Republican National Committee and was a staffer for multiple statewide campaigns.

“I can be tough as nails, and some of them call me Margaret Thatcher, which I thank them for,” she told the newspaper.

McBath, meanwhile, has been making noise in Congress since taking office in January, co-sponsoring and advocating for measures that introduce tighter gun control.

Yet despite the pledge from Meadows to throw the full weight of the NRA behind the opponent of McBath, the Georgia Democrat says it won’t make a difference.

“Well, they’ve all gotten NRA backing in the past, so it’s no different,” she told the outlet.

Anarchists in Portland, Oreg., flooded the office of a local lawyer representing officers of the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency in an effort to intimidate him.

The city has long been the epicenter of the so-called “Occupy ICE” movement and other anarchist activities, culminating last year in a clash between ICE officers and the protesters who then managed to shut down an ICE facility.

ICE UNION WANTS PORTLAND MAYOR TO FACE CRIMINAL PROBE OVER ACTIONS DURING OCCUPY ICE PROTESTS

A mob of anarchists continued their reign in the city last weekend, pushing a garden hose through the mail slot at the law office of Sean Riddell and flooding the building’s floor and basement, Willamette Week reported.

The water was not discovered until days later, resulting in damage to the property, including its wooden floors, carpet and the ceiling in the basement. The lawyer said the act of vandalism will cost him thousands of dollars to repair, though the cost is likely to be covered by insurance.

Riddell has been representing the National ICE Council, the union for federal immigration officers. Last year the union grabbed headlines after sending letters to officials, asking them to conduct a criminal investigation of Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler over his handling of the 38-day Occupy ICE protests in the city last summer.

The group also filed claims that the city’s police declined to intervene and disperse the protesters who were besieging an ICE facility.

The anonymous anarchists claimed responsibility for the water damage in an email to Willamette Week on Monday, admitting that they did it because of Riddell’s work with the federal immigration agency.

“We decided to congratulate him on his new building by unraveling his garden hose, pushing it through his mail slot, and turning on the water,” the anonymous email read.

It added that Riddell’s office was the target as he bought it with the money he received from representing the ICE union and claimed that this is a warning to other lawyers who are working or are planning to work with the agency.

“Our goal was to cause maximum economic damage, that should serve as a warning to all individuals and businesses that profit off the human misery perpetrated by ICE,” the email added.

Riddell slammed the vandals, telling the Willamette Week that at least he doesn’t hide behind the cloak of anonymity. “When I make a political statement, or when I make a political statement on behalf of a client. I sign my name,” he said.

“I’m not a victim,” he said. “I’m just doing my job.”

Anti-Trump TV host Joy Behar has shockingly referred to the president as “the culprit” behind the deadly California synagogue shooting.

During Monday’s “The View“, the panel discussed the shooting at the Chabad of Poway synagogue on Saturday as worshipers were celebrating the last day of Passover, killing a woman and injuring three others.

PARENTS DISAVOW CALIFORNIA SYNAGOGUE SUSPECT, SAY SON IS PART OF ‘HISTORY OF EVIL’

“I want to say something about Trump. Last week Biden introduced a video where he brought up Charlottesville. We all saw that. It was very well done. It reminded me we’re losing the soul of America,” Behar said, referencing the show’s recent interview with former Vice President Joe Biden.

Take responsibility for your actions. Mr. President, you are the culprit.

— Joy Behar

“The next day Donald Trump defends Charlottesville once again. Says that these people were historians they were more interested in Robert E. Lee then the fact that they were saying ‘Jews will not replace us,’ they were just historians.”

“Then on Saturday in the morning this assault on the synagogue. Then Saturday afternoon ‘our hearts are with the victims.’ He talks out of both sides of his mouth,” she continued.

“He’s provocative. He gives dog whistles constantly to these people. Then Kellyanne goes out there and defends him and says ‘no no no,’ and he is like ‘no no no.’ Take responsibility for your actions. Mr. President, you are the culprit.”

Behar wasn’t alone in attributing some blame for the tragedy to the president, with multiple liberal media figures and pundits also suggesting Trump was partly responsible for the shooting.

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-host Joe Scarborough delivered a fiery monologue Monday, saying “the blood that is spilled” is on Trump’s hands, accusing him of inciting such attacks.

ADL DIRECTOR ON CALIFORNIA SYNAGOGUE SHOOTING: ANTI-SEMITISM IS A ‘VICIOUS PROBLEM RIGHT NOW’

“We are so far beyond dog whistles here, Donald. We are so far beyond dog whistles. The blood, the blood that is spilled, is on your hands. From white nationalists, from people who listen to that sort of rhetoric, any violence to journalists,” Scarborough said.

“No, we are so past dog whistles now, Donald. You are just inciting violence. It’s just – it’s just obvious… We are calling it out now. You are unfit to be President of the United States.”

Meanwhile, a network contributor on the same program compared Trump to ISIS and Al Qaeda clerics who inspire terror attacks across the world.

“This is intertwined in our own politics today, they are inspired oftentimes by political rhetoric. If you took a lot of the statements by politicians right now in this country and you compare them to what Al Qaeda or ISIS clerics said that inspired attacks around the world over the last decade, they would look remarkably similar,” MSNBC contributor Clint Watts said, later adding that he was talking about Trump specifically. “This is incitement to violence in many cases.”

Trump offered his sympathies to the victims Saturday shortly after the shooting.

“Our entire nation mourns the loss of life, prays for the wounded and stands in solidarity with the Jewish community,” Trump said later at a rally in Wisconsin. “We forcefully condemn the evils of anti-Semitism and hate, which must be defeated.”

He praised law enforcement’s “incredible response” and singled out the off-duty Border Patrol agent who “bravely returned fire and helped disrupt the attack and saved so many lives.”

President Trump is pushing on designating the Muslim Brotherhood a foreign terrorist organization, according to a New York Times report published Tuesday.

The Muslim Brotherhood, which denies allegations of terrorism and insists that it supports Democracy, has been designated a terrorist organization by countries such as Russia, Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates.

CALLS MOUNT FOR TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO LABEL MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD ‘TERRORIST ORGANIZATION’

According to the New York Times, the Trump administration directed national security and diplomatic officials to come up with ways to slap sanctions on the Islamist political movement. This comes after Trump met with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi, who has long decried the Muslim Brotherhood that has opposed his rule in the country, the report said.

By designating the movement as a terror group, it would immediately become the target of American sanctions and restrictions, including travel bans and other limits on economic activity.

The State Department did not immediately respond to an email from Fox News.

It would become a criminal act for Americans to fund the group, ban banks from processing money for it, bar those with ties to the group from coming to the United States and make it easier to deport immigrants who have worked with the organization.

Yet the move appears to have caused internal debate, according to the report. While John Bolton, the national security adviser, and Mike Pompeo, the secretary of state, reportedly support the move, some officials within the Pentagon oppose the sweeping designation and instead are working to come up with a more moderate compromise.

EXCLUSIVE: LAWMAKERS CALL ON TRUMP ADMINISTRATION TO OUTLAW MUSLIM BROTHERHOOD WITH NEW STRATEGY

“The president has consulted with his national security team and leaders in the region who share his concern, and this designation is working its way through the internal process,” White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders told the newspaper.

But the designation of the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization has been floated around the White House at least since 2017.

At that time, the government was considering designating both the movement and Iran’s Revolutionary Guard as terror groups. The Iranian group was finally designated as a terror group only earlier this month.

“By calling for the entire group to be designated as a terrorist organization, the Trump administration is making an extraordinarily broad policy determination that will harm the participation of Muslim groups in democratic processes.”

— Laura Pitter of Human Rights Watch

“The Muslim Brotherhood is a large and complex political organization operating in many countries,” Laura Pitter, senior U.S. national security counsel at Human Rights Watch, told the Wall Street Journal in 2017.

The designation would also have a wide-ranging consequences to the U.S. foreign policy. Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan, whose country is part of NATO, openly supports the Islamist movement, the paper reported.

Some Americans and groups also have ties to the Brotherhood, potentially putting all of them in a dire legal situation if the organization gets designated as a terror group.
