Michael Avenatti’s lawyer claims he is a victim of ‘vindictive’ prosecution arranged by President Trump

Westlake Legal Group Avenatti Michael Avenatti’s lawyer claims he is a victim of ‘vindictive’ prosecution arranged by President Trump trial The Blog Michael Avenatti extortion

Michael Avenatti’s attorney told a judge in New York today that President Trump was ultimately responsible for all of his legal troubles. The judge in his case did not appear to be impressed:

Avenatti has now formally blamed his opposition to Trump for separate indictments in California and New York, where he is accused of defrauding Stormy Daniels and extorting Nike. Steward told U.S. District Judge Deborah Batts today that both cases are vindictive.

“Vindictive?” Batts asked, incredulously.

Appearing taken aback, Batts added later: “This office is not known for being vindictive.”…

Steward suggested times have changed during the tenure of U.S. Attorney General William Barr, whom he called a “lapdog” for Trump.

“That may be,” Batts replied, before questioning what Barr had to do with the case…

Calling Avenatti’s vindictive prosecution claims “frivolous,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert Sobelman predicted that the pending claims would fail in both courts.

After the hearing, Avenatti apparently held an impromptu press conference:

After the hearing, Avenatti said he was in the fight of his life while “the biggest criminal occupies the White House.”

“Welcome to Russia!” he said.

Okay, champ, maybe dial it back a little. I get that a lot of people hate Trump but does Avenatti really think they’ll believe absolutely anything he says, so long as it sounds nefarious? That seems to be the guiding principle of his defense. I guess you can’t blame him given that this same approach was a goldmine for him at CNN.

Judge Batts doesn’t seem to be taking the bait. She scheduled the trial for April. But first, Avenatti has to face the music in the Nike extortion case which starts next month. Also, last month a judge in California set his trial there for May. So Avenatti is going to be a very busy defendant for the next seven months. Stock up on popcorn now.

Michael Avenatti: Stormy Daniels owes me $2 million for my excellent legal work

Westlake Legal Group Avenatti Michael Avenatti: Stormy Daniels owes me $2 million for my excellent legal work The Blog Stormy Daniels Michael Avenatti

Attorney Michael Avenatti is demanding his former client Stormy Daniels pay up for all of his excellent representation over the years. He claims she owes him $2 million for all of his hard work. From NBC News:

Avenatti, who represented the adult film actress in legal action against Donald Trump, filed a lien claim in an Ohio federal court Wednesday that says Daniels owes him more than $2,000,000 for legal services, costs and expenses…

In his lien filing, Avenatti said, “Despite repeated demands that Ms. Daniels fulfill her contractual obligations and pay for the millions of dollars in legal fees and costs she has enjoyed for her benefit over the last approximate 19 months, including in this case, she has refused.”

The Daily Beast has more about the sad state of Michael Avenatti:

Avenatti’s lawsuit this week alleges the initial February 2018 retainer agreement he made with Daniels was for “$100 up-front payment,” prompting his firm to spend “thousands of attorney and staff hours, and a significant out-of-pocket-expenses.” During his retention, Avenatti said he bailed Daniels out of jail “following her arrest in Columbus Ohio in July 2018” after a strip-club brawl and led the “successful efforts” to have the charges dropped.

“Despite the significance of his work, Ms. Daniels has yet to directly pay a single dollar to Mr. Avenatti or Avenatti & Associates, APC for their legal services beyond the $100.00 she initially paid back in 2018,” the suit states. “Ms. Daniels is required to pay her lawyers.”

Avenatti never complained about the money back when he was appearing on CNN and MSNBC once or twice a day for months on end. If you could add up the value of all that media time it would surely exceed $2 million. But, alas, Avenatti has fallen on hard times. In March he was arrested and charged with attempting to extort $25 million from Nike. Then in April he was hit with a 36-count indictment in California which accused him of embezzling money from a settlement paid to a disabled client. In May there were reports that he was about to be charged for embezzling $300k from Stormy Daniels. And in June the California State Bar moved to suspend his law license.

As a result of all of this, the poor man has lost his Ferrari and his private jet. This is really a sad story, I guess. And yet, somehow I don’t feel bad about any of it. I think Glenn Greenwald sums up “Resistance dreamboat” Avenatti’s latest claim pretty well here:

In a one-on-one war of words between conservative talk show host/political commentator/author Dana Loesch and disgraced attorney Michael Avenatti, my money would be on Loesch every time.

Loesch was on the Twitter machine Thursday reading CNN the riot act over media firefighters Brian Stelter and Oliver Darcy suggesting that Trump criticizing NY Times columnist Bret Stephens over his bedbug insult overreaction was part of a broader Trump “war” on the press:

Loesch then noted that CNN had been waging a war of its own – against Trump and his supporters over non-issues and by way of inviting on unhinged guests:

After continuing on in a few more tweets with examples, Loesch concluded by shaming CNN for elevating Avenatti for months as a heroic ResistanceWestlake Legal Group 2122 Dana Loesch Levels Michael Avenatti in Back and Forth Over His Porn Star Lawyer Status, Mounting Legal Troubles Social Media republicans Politics North Carolina Michael Avenatti Media journalism Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post democrats Dana Loesch Culture CNN Allow Media Exception leader when it was obvious that he was a fraudster who was exploiting Daniels to score political points with the Woke Mafia in advance of a rumored presidential bid:

Avenatti got his feelings hurt and lashed out:

Loesch clapped back that he had to have used the search terms “porn lawyer” to find her tweet, which he denied while throwing another weak jab about the NRA:

Loesch then absolutely torched Avenatti with a finishing move for the ages:

“You can go shave your back now.” SICK BURN. #Boom

His response was pathetic, but by that point Loesch was done with him and had moved on:

Poor Michael Avenatti just can’t get any respect. The world’s smallest violin is playing for you, buddy. Bless your heart.

Irony Overload: Lemon and Cuomo Argue About Whether CNN Should Provide a Platform for Dishonest Guests (Watch)

Westlake Legal Group DonLemonChrisCuomo-620x357 Irony Overload: Lemon and Cuomo Argue About Whether CNN Should Provide a Platform for Dishonest Guests (Watch) white house Social Media Politics North Carolina Michael Avenatti Media journalism It Is Okay To Laugh Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Featured Post donald trump Don Lemon democrats Culture CNN Chris Cuomo Brian Stelter Allow Media Exception

Primetime anchors Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo debate on CNN – 8/29/19. Screen grab via CNN.

The most unintentionally hilarious few minutes of primetime television on cable news is arguably the time on CNN when Chris Cuomo’s show is ending and Don Lemon’s starts, where they have a brief exchange of thoughts while the cameras are still rolling.

This is the two of them at their most arrogant and narcissistic as they try to one-up each other in the Woke TV Anchor Sweepstakes

Such was the case on Thursday night, when the two continued a discussion they had had on Wednesday night about whether or not the network should give airtime to who they characterized as dishonest Trump administration officials.

Fox News sets the scene:

CNN’s anti-Trump anchor Don Lemon on Thursday night told Trump surrogates who attack the media and “lie all day long” that appearing on CNN “is a privilege” and “not a right.”

Following his colleague Chris Cuomo’s “closing argument” that lambasted RNC spokeswoman Kayleigh McEnany for claiming that President Trump doesn’t “lie,” Lemon began their nightly handoff by reading the Merrian-Webster’s definition of the word “lie.”

“A lie is a lie all day long,” Lemon said. “For these folks to say he doesn’t lie or that you’re maybe misunderstanding how he’s communicating- that’s rich.”

Lemon knocked Trump defenders who attack the media, insisting they apologize “when the media gets it wrong.”

The media “apologizes” when they get it wrong? Not sure what “media” he’s talking about, but it certainly isn’t CNN.

Cuomo, who (to my surprise) evidently has a tiny bit better of a grasp on what journalism actually is about than Lemon, explained to his colleague why it was necessary to have political guests on their programs:

Cuomo then challenged the “CNN Tonight” host on how he would “conduct the journalism of vetting” the Trump campaign if he doesn’t allow anyone who represents it onto his show, which Lemon countered by saying “you can have people on who represent it” but don’t have to sit through the “lies.”

“We have Trump supporters on all the time and we hold them accountable to the truth and they don’t make excuses for everything this president does,” Lemon explained. “But there are those like the one who was on last night- excuses about everything.”

“It’s the job of us to test and expose and let people see it for what it is- one: so that they can believe their eyes and ears, and two: if they’re against it, they know how to oppose it,” Cuomo told Lemon.

It’s also the job of journalists to have political guests on if for no other reason than to simply allow the airing of differing legitimate viewpoints with which liberal CNN hosts like Cuomo and Lemon might disagree. And if there is disagreement, counter or dispute the argument. If you feel someone is lying or is otherwise not being honest, correct them.

This is what’s called “political discourse” for those of us not well-connected enough to be awarded primetime anchor chairs on CNN.

Lemon later attempted to up his game during the segment by telling his colleague Cuomo that people who don’t tell the truth should not be allowed on CNN in order to “promote propaganda and lies”:

“I don’t think people need the space to promote propaganda and lies,” Lemon continued. “I think that’s a disservice… It’s allowing someone- giving them a platform that they haven’t deserved, that they don’t deserve.”

Watch the segment below:

This must be a new position for Lemon to take, considering how frequently he’s had fraudster Michael Avenatti on his program, not to mention all the times Avenatti has guested on other programs like Brian Stelter’s “Reliable Sources”:

Either Lemon himself is being purposely disingenuous here about not wanting to allow certain guests on CNN who “tell lies”, or he’s being truthful about it and would just prefer CNN limit the dishonest people on their network to those who host their programs.

I’ll leave that for readers to decide.

Michael Avenatti considering a run for president again

Westlake Legal Group cbs-avenatti Michael Avenatti considering a run for president again white house The Blog Stormy Daniels Michael Avenatti extortion embezzlement 2020 election

Don’t call it a comeback. He’s been here for years.

According to NBC, Michael Avenatti is thinking about getting back into the presidential race:

Avenatti, who in the past represented porn star Stormy Daniels against the likes of President Donald Trump and his then fixer Michael Cohen, told CNBC late on Friday that he is yet again contemplating entering the expansive 2020 arena.

“Never say never,” he said when asked if he’s going to get into the race. “The Dems need a non-traditional fighter. They have a lot of talent but not a lot of fighters.” He later noted that the odds of him getting into the race are at 50/50 and he could make his decision in a few months.

“I don’t think I need to make a final decision for a number of months. I have the name ID and everyone knows I’m one of the few effective fighters that the Dems have,” he said…

“I am increasingly concerned that the Dems don’t have the right fighter to go toe to toe with Trump,” he said. “And the future of the republic and our way of life is on the line. He is a brawler who has no bounds. The Dems need a guy who can match him punch for punch. I may be that guy.”

Is this just about satisfying his desperate need for attention? I mean, he can’t be serious about this, can he? He’s facing multiple felony charges including bank fraud and attempted extortion. He can’t possibly think he has a chance. So what is this about?

I think it’s probably best to view Avenatti the way you would a child actor. He had a shining moment in the sun when CNN decided to make him a household name by having him on television every day. Avenatti became such a star that he started talking about a run for the White House. But the good times didn’t last. After his shoddy handling of the allegations against Judge Kavanaugh, his appearances on TV dried up. A few months after Kavanaugh was confirmed, Avenatti announced he was not running for president. His celebrity career was on the rocks.

And then came the charges.

Again, it’s not a perfect parallel, but you can probably think of a few child actors who wound up addicted to drugs and in and out of jail. In Avenatti’s case, the charges were attempted extortion of Nike. Alleged embezzlement from a disabled client. His private jet was seized. California moved to suspend his law license. And yet, some truly pathetic part of him still thinks he’s going to be a star again. In his mind, he’s not on the brink of going to prison, he’s still the golden child making his decision about the White House. It’s just sad at this point.

Even if Avenatti were miraculously cleared of all charges tomorrow, he’s never going to have the resistance at his back the way he did when CNN made him a star. Even if he really were innocent, there would still be the disaster of Julie Swetnick. And he would still have been abandoned by his most famous client. If Stormy Daniels can’t trust you, how can anyone else?

It’s been over for a while. Avenatti just doesn’t seem to know it yet.

Just in case you didn’t think the 2020 race was crazy enough, Michael Avenatti told CNBC that he is considering running for President and that there is a 50/50 shot he’ll do so. This would be the same Michael Avenatti that’s currently under multiple federal indictments, including stealing money for a paraplegic.

The report comes per The Daily Caller.

Embattled celebrity lawyer Michael Avenatti is revisiting a potential 2020 presidential bid and told CNBC he is “one of the few effective fighters” in the Democratic Party.

“Never say never,” he told CNBC Friday when asked if he might still run in 2020. “The Dems need a non-traditional fighter. They have a lot of talent but not a lot of fighters.”

Avenatti said he puts the odds of running at 50-50, and he will make a final decision in the next few months, CNBC reported Saturday.

“I don’t think I need to make a final decision for a number of months. I have the name ID and everyone knows I’m one of the few effective fighters that the Dems have,” said Avenatti, who adopted the catch phrase “basta,” or “enough,” during his frequent attacks on President Donald Trump.

I’m trying to recall exactly what Avenatti has been so effective at. Yes, he got the better of Michael Cohen, but that case was closed without touching anyone else. Even on the civil side, Trump won the defamation lawsuit and forced Stormy Daniels to pay his legal fees.

On the topic of Brett Kavanaugh, no man was more responsible for seeing to his confirmation than Michael Avenatti. He trotted out an accuser named Jule Swetnick, who not only had no credibility, but whose tales were so unbelievable than even the media had to eventually back off them.

Of course, we’d be remiss to talk about Avenatti without giving credit to those in the media who propelled him to fame. The worst actor in this regard was CNN, who put him on the air over 100 times in just the span of a few months. There was a period where he had a nearly nightly hit on Anderson Cooper’s show. Brian Stelter praised him on his weekend show as a serious Presidential candidate.

Do I think Avenatti will run? I wouldn’t put it past him at this point. He’s obviously a egomaniac with a weighty addiction to the spotlight. There’s also a possibility that he may believe the feds will back off if he’s a candidate for President. I highly doubt that given the indictments have already dropped, but when you are facing decades in prison, rationality doesn’t have to be part of a play.

It’d certainly add a bit more spice to the Democratic field at least.

It’s hard to believe that just a year ago, Michael Avenatti was the belle of the ball on CNN and MSNBC, racking up astronomical amounts of air time and even teasing a Presidential run. Now, he’s staring down very serious federal charges that seek to put him behind bars for decades, including tax fraud, extortion, and embezzlement.

As the walls have closed in on Avenatti, he’s become more and more unhinged.

That led to this hilarious presser earlier in the week.

Avenatti wraps up the presser by asking “anything else?” You’d think he was speaking to a room full of reporters based on his demeanor, but then the camera zooms out.

Yes, that’s Creepy Porn Lawyer asking if there are more questions to a bunch of empty chairs.

His humiliation was only beginning though. After the presser, Donald Trump Jr. decided to execute one of the most savage trolls I’ve seen in years.

“Yes, 911…I’d like to report a murder.”

That is Michael Avenatti’s ex-wife posing for a picture with Donald Trump Jr. as Avenatti himself stares down prison. This is real life and it’s glorious.

For anyone that cares, which is likely no one, the presser itself was just a rehash of Avenatti’s grievances. He’s still claiming Julie Swetnick was gang raped by Brett Kavanaugh. He brought up some Michael Cohen stuff that has already been dealt with as part of the SDNY’s now closed cased on the matter. Nothing new was presented. Just a desperate man begging for attention.

There is one more hilarious part of this story though.

Notice in the tweet above that Avenatti says “every network” was there and to “check the mic count.” While there’s clearly not multiple mics from “every network” there, you do see a single extra mic aside from the sound system’s mic.

That’d be a mic from CNN, because of course.

There’s nothing quite like political party infighting.

This past week, two of the Left’s most cartoonish characters collided.

Can’t-get-enough-TV-time attorney Michael Avenatti slammed actress-turned-mistaken-Paul-Revere Alyssa Milano over an aged tweet she fired off over allegations of domestic violence on the part of the used car salesm– I mean, lawyer.

Back in November, Michael was arrested after an ex-girlfriend accused him of grabbing her wrist and ejecting her from his apartment (here).

However, in February, it was announced that Michael wouldn’t be criminally charged.

But Alyssa long-ago made clear her position on allegations: We are to “believe all women.” Therefore, if it is untrue that a man did something, it is true that a man did something.

Or, to put it another way:

Alyssa Milano Pounds The Door Of A Congresswoman: All Women Are Right, Because Some Women Are Right

Or:

“Justice, schmustice. I’ve been sent to Earth to offer Charmed and salvation.”

Here’s what Alyssa had to say in November:

As pointed out by Fox News:

The hashtag “Basta” is a Spanish word meaning “enough,” which Avenatti often used on Twitter in posts critical of Donald Trump.

No word on why Michael waited until now to respond, but on Monday, he let Alyssa have it:

It should be noted that the domestic case is still open.

But Michael’s got bigger charges to face: The goofy guy — who made 254 television appearances in just one year — was indicted in May for allegedly trying to blackmail Nike and could be going to prison for a very long time (here).

Last week, the California State Bar motioned to suspend his license to practice law, given that his alleged criminality “poses a substantial threat of harm to clients or the public.”

Liberal icon and media hero (but I repeat myself) Michael Avenatti is having a no good, very bad, horrible week.

On Monday, porn star Stormy Daniels’s former lawyer weighed in on Twitter about the upcoming Maine Senate race between incumbent Sen. Susan Collins (R) and her newly-announced Democratic challenger Sara Gideon (D). Here’s what the disgraced lawyer had to say:

Gideon has tweeted out a list of endorsements she has received so far, but for some strange reason Avenatti’s endorsement is not noted on the list.

In any event, after Avenatti called Collins a “fraud” – presumably over her vote to confirm Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court – NRSC adviser Matt Whitlock slid into the comments section of the tweet to point out the pot, kettle, black nature of Avenatti’s accusation (via Twitchy):

Whitlock, in fact, absolutely roasted Avenatti over and over again:

Unfortunately for Avenatti (but fortunately for us), things only got worse for him the next day.

On Tuesday afternoon, he tweeted this question about “The View”‘s Meghan McCain after she pushed back on AOC’s absurd claim that border detention facilities are like Nazi concentration camps:

As you can imagine, it did not go well. Avenatti took particular issue with Ben Shapiro’s criticism, and challenged him to a debate:

The responses were hilarious:

As Hot Air‘s John Sexton documented here, the two went back and forth for a bit afterwards but it’s not clear whether or not an actual debate will take place.

My personal view is that Shapiro should not waste his valuable time. For reasons Whitlock outlined and more, Avenatti is not worth it. He’s a dishonest blowhard, an exploiter of women, and a fraud who will say and do anything for attention, fame, and money – even and especially at the expense of the truth.

Michael Avenatti challenges Ben Shapiro to a debate

Westlake Legal Group Avenatti Michael Avenatti challenges Ben Shapiro to a debate The Blog Michael Avenatti Meghan McCain Ben Shapiro

I really don’t get what Michael Avenatti is doing here. He’s facing numerous felony charges for extortion and defrauding his clients of their money but suddenly he’s decided it’s time to have a public debate with Ben Shapiro? All of this happened today on Twitter after Avenatti lashed out at Meghan McCain:

I guess he has a lot of time to watch the View these days. In any case, Ben Shapiro was one of many people who offered a snarky response:

To which Avenatti responded with a challenge: To debate him anytime, on any show.

Ouch! That’s a reference to the paraplegic client Avenatti allegedly embezzled settlement money from in California. Here’s how NBC News reported that story in April:

The charge involving the paraplegic man says Avenatti drained a $4 million settlement paid out to the client by Los Angeles County, using “portions of the settlement to finance his coffee business or pay personal expenses,” the U.S. attorney’s office statement said.

“Avenatti concealed the receipt of the settlement from Client 1 and instead gave him periodic “advances” of no more than $1,900 and paid the rent for his assisted living facility,” the statement said.

Avenatti lied by telling that client as he was trying to buy a house that his settlement money was not available, causing him to fail to meet escrow, according to the indictment. Avenatti is also accused of failing to fulfill a promise to respond to that client’s Social Security Administration inquiry, leading to a loss of benefits.

This is very similar to the allegation recounted in the petition to suspend Avenatti’s license to practice law in California. In that case, a client named Gregory Barela received a settlement but Avenatti allegedly claimed for months that the company had refused to pay. Barela only found out that the money ($1.6 million) had been paid to Avenatti after he hired a second lawyer to look into it.

The Twitter account for The Vegas Take, a Vegas radio show that already had Avenatti booked, tried to get in on the act:

Avenatti acting tough as always:

Shapiro also received an email from someone claiming to be Avenatti and demanding the showdown on The Vegas Take. But Avenatti chimed in to claim the email was a fake:

Maybe the email was fake or maybe Avenatti was lying? He did something similar after a Twitter spat with Popehat in March. After some back and forth online, Popehat got a call from Avenatti. After Popehat wrote about the call, Avenatti denied he had made it and claimed Popehat had been fooled by an imposter. Bottom line, Avenatti likes to escalate behind the scenes and then deny he did so when called out.

In any case, I’m not sure what good can come from debating Avenatti at this point. He’s not a potential Democratic candidate. He’s not representing Stormy Daniels (he’s accused of stealing her money too). Avenatti appears to be headed for disgrace and prison at this point so why bother debating him? I don’t see the point, but if Ben Shapiro decides to call into the show I’ll update this post.
