I think everyone is so focused on Iowa that there hasn’t been much coverage of the big news out of South Carolina.
The RCP average showed Biden with a 17 point lead in SC, but there haven’t been any new polls since early January. Bernie started his big upward swing shortly after that, so I’ve been biting my nails in anticipation of the next SC poll to see if Bernie had gained traction.
And we have a new SC poll today. Biden leads by 5 points, which is a 12 point swing for Bernie. It’s insane. If Bernie wins Iowa and New Hampshire (very possible if everyone remembers to vote!) then that puts him in a good spot to take Nevada (538 thinks he may win even though Biden leads slightly in polls), then he could ride that momentum into a win in South Carolina.
If Biden can’t even win South Carolina then his campaign is basically over. That was his first must-win state, and I’m not sure he can do it.
But remember, this is only possible if you get out there and vote! Don’t get complacent. No matter how good the polls are, if you don’t vote then we lose.
