I’m Robert Santos, President-Elect of the American Statistical Association, census expert, proud San Antonian, and Chief Methodologist at the Urban Institute. I’m here with a few friends to talk threats facing the 2020 Census and to answer all your questions. AMA, Reddit!
Robert Santos, President-Elect of the American Statistical Association, internationally recognized expert in the census, and Chief Methodologist at the Urban Institute, is back on Reddit with his friends to talk about threats facing the 2020 Census. He was here last week talking about what the census is, why it’s so important, and why you should care that every US resident is counted.
Every ten years, the Census Bureau has a HUGE responsibility: to count EVERY RESIDENT in the US. But what challenges does the agency face? ANSWER = SO MANY. From hiring the thousands of workers who actually do the counting, to counting people who live in remote places (turns out some people live in mountain ranges, who knew!), to stopping hackers from stealing your data (which has never happened to date, btw), to countering misinformation on the Internet, the Census Bureau has a really, REALLY big job (which is to make sure that every resident in the US is counted). And since 2020 is the first time people can be counted using the Internet, there are sure to be even more challenges than ever before…
Reddit, the 2020 Census is SUPER important and we need to do everything we can to make sure that every resident in the US is counted. Ask Robert and his friends about threats facing the 2020 Census (answers initialed by experts below), and then continue the convo by requesting to join the CountOnStats LinkedIn group and by following @CountOnStats on twitter…
