Bolton also isn’t a great witness. Ya, he saw all the shit. But you put him on the stand under oath and you don’t know what you’re going to get.
He’s a political appointee that’s been in the republican political arena long enough to know when to stonewall, when to deflect and when to keep his mouth shut.
It’ll probably end up being a mixed bag of soundbites for both the Ds and the Rs and the questions getting to the nuts and bolts of the alleged crimes would be objected to by white house lawyers who would cite executive privilege.
What you’re forgetting is that this lawsuit was just if this aide could be compelled to testify, not if he has to answer any specific questions. Now if he does testify the white house council could invoke executive privilege on ANY question that they want. Bolton or his aide would likely defer to the WH council. The majority would seek a judicial order to force compliance and then we would have litigation over each and every single question that privelage was invoked on. It would take months to move it through the courts.
So no, he won’t be called to testify. And no, his testimony isn’t necessary.
If you’re a Democrat looking for a silver bullet you’re not going to find it through the courts. They just work too slow and they really don’t want to be the arbiter between the legislative and executive branch. The silver bullet will come from inside the executive branch, like another whistle-blower or a voluntary witness. Maybe some documents that are compelled to be released as part of a freedom of information request or a court order.
Even if that happens there’s no way to get this through the senate. I have no idea whats going on with the senate right now but some of our reps do not have the security and wellbeing of our republic at heart. This should not have ever gotten to this point.
If you’re thinking that an election can remove this president I will remind you of three things.
All of the publicly available evidence suggests that this president is using the power of his office to affect the outcome of the 2020 election which, he was also found to have done in 2016, both publicly (Russia if you’re listening) and privately, as seen through the Mueller report.
If he does lose an election that he will likely try to rig he may not leave office.
We haven’t even seen the full extent of his presidential powers with regards to interfering with the election.
Gotta vote guys. Gotta write your senators. Gotta let them know that you’re not okay with the status quo.
