Believe it or not, good news: Trump’s counterattack against clean energy is collapsing | Trump was elected on promises to boost the coal industry and halt the transition to electric cars. It’s not working
That’s what so many people don’t understand – the demand for coal just isn’t what it used to be, and the industry can produce so much faster than the demand for it.
I’m from West Virginia and it’s in the news all the time. The mines go through cycles of layoffs and re-hires, they mine a section and then shut down until there’s demand again. Several members of my family are coal miners and I can never keep up with where they work, seems like it’s a different mine every 6 months or so.
This isn’t changing, the world isn’t going back. Natural gas, that’s what is really on the rise worldwide, still a fossil fuel but at least halfway better than coal. Environmental concerns aside, the world is moving away from coal for many different reasons. We cannot put as many coal miners to work if there’s less need for coal.
And it isn’t environmentalists, but the global market, which is behind this shift in demand. No tree-hugger is forcing any mine to shut down, that’s a scapegoat.
