Donald Trump, Un-American | Again and again, the president has rejected America’s founding principles.
Having honest respect for the viewpoints of my Republican friends, I found myself tonight – wondering what exactly it is that they see in Donald Trump. What are the core values he exudes himself and draws out of America that have 53% of Republicans convinced he is a better president than Abraham Lincoln?
I wonder, but the Trump-ublican party – global hostage crisis that it is – offers no explanation, only an excavation of our political norms, international alliances, and national spirit. Donald Trump is not simply bad for America. He is anti-American incarnate.
Donald Trump is not hard working
I imagine we all can find some common ground in our mutual appreciation for hard work. Does Donald Trump inspire confidence with his productivity and give us an example of a dedicated public servant? Let’s scratch the surface of his day to day operations – surely his arduous labor will be easily un-earthed.
What the President has done is spend 23% of his presidency at golf clubs. Mostly his golf clubs by the way, padding his balance sheets with taxpayer money. He tweets an average of 80+ times per week, and has recently topped out (good lord I sound like I’m describing a sports-car) at 123 in a day.
With majorities in both houses of Congress, with a 5-4 majority on the Supreme Court His Laziness failed to keep the government running – instead leading us to a pointless 34 day shutdown.
His businesses fail, his academic grades are locked away behind layers of lawsuits, his charities are frauds, and this is all fun and games until I’m reminded he is the President! His job is important, people are depending on him, and yet we all know he is completely incapable of the hard work his job demands, and the hard work Americans deserve.
Donald Trump golfs, eats, and tweets – no wonder he is telling his staffers not to take notes.
Donald Trump is not responsible
2016 Trump voters, and even those wide-eyed optimists who were once willing to entertain the possibility his presidency wouldn’t be a complete disaster (Hi, that’s me) may have held his ‘business success’ as evidence of some esoteric leadership quality. So let’s take a look, does Donald Trump’s resume reek of responsibility?
From 1985 until 1994 Donald Trump lost over 1 BILLION dollars. Similarly, since taking office Donald Trump and his team of fiscally prudent Republican friends have presided over a $3 TRILLION increase to U.S. debt.
When he is not losing his own money – or worse yet America’s he is conducting government business on a private, unsecure cell phone. Unsurprisingly his loose lips drew the ire of military leadership when he revealed classified intel amid the al-Baghdadi raid. Those loose lips get put to use regularly however on Fox News – such as the time he went on Sean Hannity and rambled for 45 minutes.
Losing money, slipping secrets, and yelling at the TV. Donald Trump is not responsible.
Donald Trump is not humble
You know it’s bad when admitting “I am not a humble man” is about the most humble thing you could imagine someone doing. But can you imagine Donald Trump saying that?
“I think I’m much more humble than you would understand.” – Donald J. Trump, Jul 17 2016
The fact of the matter is that the one quality which REALLY flows through Donald Trump with impunity is arrogance.
“I know more about ISIS than the generals do.” – Donald J. Trump, Jul 3 2017
“Nobody reads the Bible more than me.” – Donald J. Trump, Feb 24 2016
Even in the aftermath of the Marjory Stoneman Douglas school shooting – how does Donald Trump console the nation? By reminding us that if only he had been there he would have saved the day:
“I really believe I’d run in [to Stoneman Douglas during the mass shooting], even if I didn’t have a weapon.” – Donald J. Trump, Feb 26 2018
Would Donald Trump have run into an active shooter situation ‘even without a weapon’? Hopefully we never have to find out. But color me skeptical. That’s because Donald Trump has not proven himself to be a hero. He has proven himself to be a braggart.
“He is a racist. He is a con man. He is a cheat.” – Michael Cohen, February 27 2019
Donald Trump is not kind
Donald Trump is kind to you in-so-far-as you are useful to Donald Trump. As we just discussed, he exhibits all the signs of narcissistic illusions of grandiosity. He is incapable of making a commitment to compassion and community.
Instead, he is cheating on his wife four months after she gave birth. He is illegally mis-using his non-profit foundation to boost his Presidential Campaign.
At his political rallies – safe little kindergarten classrooms that they are – he is mocking the disabled, and encouraging political violence.
The Trump Administration budget cuts health, housing, and other assistance for the poor. The Trump Administration cancelled funding to the NIH-EPA program for children’s health. He’s golfed during national emergencies and allowed the HUD to block Puerto Rico relief funds. Just two weeks ago the Trump Administration approved a rule before Christmas to remove nearly 700,000 people from the food-stamp program.
With Trump cruelty is the point. Is that what draws his fervent supporters? A bestial infatuation with the suffering of others? Keep an eye on that – it may be important.
Donald Trump is not patriotic
Some say he’s an international money-laundering criminal. Some say he’s a Russian intelligence asset. I say America’s President must be above reproach.
Donald Trump has repeatedly failed when called upon to demonstrate his loyalty to America. He saluted a North Korean General, supports Xi Jinping’s lifetime dictatorship (and repeatedly floats the idea for himself), congratulated Erdogan, and continues to be in lockstep with Vladimir Putin and at odds with the US intelligence community with regards to Russia’s election interference in the US 2016 election.
He is hacking away at America’s relationship to truth itself – having lied 12,019 times in fewer than his first 1000 days in office. He claims the media are the enemy of the people and inspires radical right-wing terrorism.
For all his faults as a politician – John McCain is a real American War Hero. Donald Trump pisses on his grave and then proceeds to purge 200,000 VA healthcare applications.
Donald Trump is a draft-dodger. He’s a tax-evader. He’s a law-breaker. He is anti-American incarnate.
