Jeff Weaver: Biden Endorsers ‘Support the Same Old Ideas That Led to the Election of Donald Trump’

Westlake Legal Group jq6r9uiWuwsrR6f5m7oYqnlVbLH_L2XAcODA5CWXiy8 Jeff Weaver: Biden Endorsers 'Support the Same Old Ideas That Led to the Election of Donald Trump' r/politics

People bought it because they know something needs to change and they weren’t getting that from anywhere else by the time the general election rolled around.

This is where I think you’re dead wrong. I think people bought into Trump because they had had enough change and wanted things to go back 30 or 40 years. Even people I know who aren’t racist freaked the fuck out over a black President, because that represented a tidal wave of change at their doorstep. They want things to go back to when their neighbors didn’t speak another language and they could get a good job at the plant and health care wasn’t so expensive and every other thing that they’ve idealized about in the past even though half of it is BS. This is what Trump promised them. Sure, he failed to deliver, but admitting that is admitting they were duped, which they will refuse to believe. You want change, I want change, but there are a hundred million people in this country who don’t want any change at all. It’s why so many old people voted for Trump. He promised them things would stay as they are until they die. They don’t want to have to adapt in their 70’s. Who would?

Now look at Obama. He ran on a message of change, sure. That’s a lot easier to do when the economy is collapsing and we’re facing a great depression. Right now things are relatively good for most people, mostly because they haven’t encountered things like crushing medical debt or student loans or losing their job or a dozen other factors that they’re going to face sooner or later but they don’t have to face it right now. Right now, change is a hard sell.

2020 Super Tuesday Discussion Live Thread – Part II

I’m a Bernie supporter. Was in 2016, when I voted for HRC by default. I make less than $30k and have given over $100 to his campaign this election cycle. I am self employed and uninsured. My partner and our child are on Medicaid. This election is incredibly important to us.

From a healthcare perspective, from a climate perspective, from a Justice system perspective. It’s huge in every aspect.

If Biden does actually win outright we gotta vote for him. You might think things won’t “fundamentally change” with Biden. But they will without him. Things will continue to get unimaginably worse with Trump, for families like mine, and much worse for families who aren’t even as privileged as I am.

So far my self employment tax has doubled under Trump. I lost exemptions. My family is under threat of losing Medicaid. The courts are being stacked. Kids are being kept in cages at the border and the international refugee situation will balloon with the coming and current climate crisis. More violence will erupt.. I could expound for days… I know Biden is not ideal for where we want the US to go. But Trump is fucking devastating for the whole planet.

I don’t think Biden can beat Trump personally, but if he wins the nomination I’m going to do my personal best to make sure he does. I hope everyone who disagrees with this current disgrace of an administration does to.

Bernie is the unifier. He’s the only one I even slightly resonate with. In my mind he has to win. But I’m not quitting on my family and your family, immigrant families, science etc if he doesn’t.

Sanders: Biden ‘is a decent guy, he’s just wrong on the issues’

Westlake Legal Group lhZYYpdEHdxuKwT3OFnx_SWSGDRovVIRjyxsqWJpL4U Sanders: Biden 'is a decent guy, he's just wrong on the issues' r/politics

He’s been around long enough to have a pretty mixed legacy. Cuz what you’re describing is pretty bad, but on the other hand he is the one who, as VP, took a stand supporting gay marriage that forced Obama and the DNC to take a position that probably greatly accelerated LGBT rights in this nation getting to where they are now, from 2008 when the Dem position on LGBT issues was to change the subject.

I don’t know what kind of a person he is, but I think Bernie is a good guy, and Bernie has worked with him a lot over the decades, so I think he’s better positioned than I am to say.

However, like most of these institutional Dems, he’s no longer in touch with the modern Left and needs to step aside and let us take the wheel.
