I grew up in rural Idaho. My home town was decimated by the 2008 recession. Most economies in Idaho are either thriving on eco-tourism from cities in the area or exclusive rich resorts where the wealthy fly in to play.
In 2008 that stopped for a while and man, everything stopped. Last time I visited home was barely starting to recover, and only then due to the proximity to Sun Valley, where the rich returned with their new gains.
I’d love to move back, even though I’m more liberal than most there, but the healthcare and safety-net in Washington state helped me when I was young and broke with a family.
Now my family brings in 6 figures and I’m supporting Bernie to give back to the working class. The only reason I can command the salary I do is because of the Tech market right now. As automation moves in to the rich space many jobs in my sector will lose their market value.
I believe that there is tremendous value in “non-crony” capitalism. When the market isn’t protected by corruption like it is in the US, but it really is capital vs the working class right now.
Trump is a billionaire* who thinks that commanding material wealth should make him king of mankind. Bloomberg is a different side of the same coin.
The rise of marketing showed how susceptible we are to influence. With the rise of social media (including Reddit) the 1% has weaponized that through media across the world. Corporate Dems are part of this class and that’s why they are terrified.
Donald & Bernie both have revealed the toxic and crass manipulation of the media. Trump, however decided to embrace his own weaponized version of propaganda. Bernie is the only one left speaking truth-to-power, and from my perspective our last chance to stop the decay of Democracy world wide.
