Turkey Agrees to a Cease Fire and Mitt Romney Is Really Mad

Westlake Legal Group Mitt-Romney-Real-MR-Please-Stand-Up Turkey Agrees to a Cease Fire and Mitt Romney Is Really Mad YPG Unserious turks Turkey Speech SDF republicans Politics pkk Obama Mitt Romney Kurds Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story False donald trump cease fire Allow Media Exception

I don’t get it. I’m looking at my Twitter timeline and seeing this speech by Mitt Romney being passed around as “brilliant” and “nine minutes worth listening to.” Then I watch it and it’s full of false characterizations, ridiculous assertions, and a complete lack of respect for what it costs to wage war. Maybe I just have higher standards for what qualifies as brilliant?

But first, let’s talk about the background. Yesterday, Turkey and the United States agreed to a five day cease fire in Northern Syria. This allows the Kurds to pull back from the border and setup the safe zone that was already negotiated last year. Some argue this is unfair. It’s not.

The PKK/YPG are a terrorist group. We allied with them to fight ISIS out of necessity, not because they are innocent bystanders in the geopolitics of the region nor are these are not our traditional “Kurdish” allies in Iraq. The group has carried out terrorists attacks that have killed thousands of innocent people over the decades. These are simply facts that can’t be ignored, though Mitt Romney is going to do his darnedest in a minute to do so. Ever wonder why they changed their name to the SDF? It was because their history was so checkered that the Obama administration demanded they rebrand.

For Turkey’s part, their incursion is an overreaction, despite legitimate security concerns (of which even Sen. Lindsey Graham has admitted). They have no right to go kill civilians in response to the historical actions of the PKK/YPG. Left unchecked, that’d be left a real possibility.

Given the very complicated, gray nature of all this, the best outcome was a cease fire that allows the Kurds to withdraw a few miles and avoid anymore major conflict and that’s what has now been negotiated, with the Kurds agreeing as well.

This left Mitt Romney really upset.

You can watch the whole thing if you’d like, but it’s essentially exactly what you’d expect. At one point, he plays tough guy and opines that Turkey is a “small country” and projects that it should be exceptionally easy to deal with them. There’s no admission they are part of NATO or that war with Turkey would be profoundly harmful to the United States on a variety of levels.

At another point, Romney fumes that he doesn’t know why the Foreign Affairs Committee even exists in light of Trump’s decision to pull out. Perhaps we agree there. If these people were actually serious, they’d be fighting to pass a new AUMF and declare war on Turkey so we can “protect our allies,” because there is no other way (outside of the already negotiated cease fire) that we can fight for PKK/YPG otherwise.

Romney presents the situation like it’s a video game. If we just press the right combination of buttons really quick, it’ll all be fine. Worse, he won’t just say what he wants. If the cease fire and coming sanctions aren’t good enough, what’s he want to do then? He won’t say because like most members of Congress, he’s too cowardly to admit his ultimate conclusion.

Message to Romney: If you truly believe in protecting the PKK/YPG, start stumping for a vote on a new AUMF.

His entire speech is fundamentally unserious. If we start killing Turks to stop their advance, we are inviting more cooperation between them and Russia, a major new war in the region, and an unprecedented crisis in NATO. There’s a reason no EU countries are rushing in to help here, even though they were far more at risk from ISIS and the refugee crisis than the United States. It’s an extremely volatile and complicated situation.

The cease fire was the best, and really only outcome here that could prevent further harm from being done. If we the PKK/YPG weren’t a terrorist group and we were formally allied with them, matters would be different. But the reality is what it is.

Romney goes on to say our actions are a “bloodstain” on American history, again ignoring all the complexities that exist and the fact that the majority of Americans do not want to risk getting involved in another war in the Middle East. What Romney says in this speech plays well with a certain minority of conservatives with big platforms, but it’s not mainstream at all.

My best advice for Trump skeptical Republicans, many of which own blue check-marks on Twitter, is to stop trying to make this guy a thing. Mitt Romney is not a serious person. He’s a politician who sees a future opening to run for President, nothing more. That speech might as well be from 2003 given how tone deaf it is to the realities on the ground. It’s the same rah-rah, Bush-esque foreign policy ranting we’ve heard for almost two decades that has led to so much jadedness, not just among Republicans, but among the entire country. Find a new hero.

Romney: What we’ve done to the Kurds will stand as a bloodstain on American history

Westlake Legal Group m-4 Romney: What we’ve done to the Kurds will stand as a bloodstain on American history Turkey Trump The Blog Syria stain Speech romney mazloum Kurds floor Blood

I … can’t help but feel that this lecture won’t be warmly received by most righties.

And that the plainly obvious fact that Republicans would be annihilating a Democratic president who had overseen this Syria debacle won’t provide Romney with much of a defense.

He goes on here for nine minutes but his points are simple. What we’ve done is dishonorable and weak, letting Turkey essentially dictate U.S. policy in Syria towards an American ally. It’s also difficult for him to understand why Pence and Pompeo weren’t sent to Turkey after Erdogan first told Trump on the phone that he was prepared to invade. They might have prevented an incursion altogether instead of negotiating a ceasefire after the fact. I think that one’s actually easy to answer: Trump called Erdogan’s bluff. He’s threatened before to push the Kurds off the Syrian border and Trump didn’t believe he’d follow through. It turned out he wasn’t bluffing this time.

The most noteworthy bit comes at the end, when Romney calls on the Senate to hold public hearings about how the administration behaved here. I think there might have been a chance of that if no deal had been reached today in Ankara between Erdogan and Pence. As it is, Senate Republicans are going to hold their breaths, hope that the ceasefire sticks, and try to put all of this behind them.

Trump spoke today after the ceasefire announcement, naturally praising it as an unprecedented deal. He referred at one point to Turkey “cleaning out” the border area of terrorists, an unfortunate choice of words when critics are accusing the U.S. of complicity in the de facto ethnic cleansing of Kurds under Pence’s deal:

“We got exactly what we wanted out of the meeting,” said one Turkish official of the negotiations with Pence and Pompeo. The leader of Kurdish forces in Syria says he’s willing to give the deal a try, though:

Mazloum Abdi tells Ronahi TV that the extent of the cease-fire stretches 100 kilometers (60 miles) from the town of Tal Abyad to Ras al-Ayn.

That appeared to conflict with Turkey’s insistence that its “safe zone” from which Kurdish forces must be removed should stretch the entire length of the border from the Euphrates River to Iraq.

“We will do whatever we can for the success of the ceasefire agreement,” Mazloum said Thursday, describing it as a “tentative agreement.”

Why are the Kurds suddenly willing to “clean” themselves out of the territory Turkey wants? It’s not that they fear the Turkish military; if that were the case they would have withdrawn years ago rather than risk an offensive from Erdogan. Some experts think the Kurds have calculated that there won’t be a real solution to this crisis until Erdogan consults with the true superpower in the region in the Trump era — Russia. Putin is set to meet Erdogan five days from now in Sochi to discuss the fate of northern Syria. A five-day ceasefire negotiated by the U.S. is useful to the Kurds in pausing Turkish operations until then. Hopefully Putin can cajole/threaten the Sultan into leaving the area with assurances that Russia will fill the void left by the Americans. If he can’t or won’t, the ceasefire will end and the Turks and Kurds can get back at it. There may be a limit to how far Turkey can advance anyway: With Russian and Syrian troops now in the area, a renewed offensive might turn into a multinational free-for-all, which would be messy for Turkey.

That is, maybe Erdogan banked today’s ceasefire in the expectation that he’d have to cease fire soon regardless, if only at Russia’s behest. Might as well sign a deal with Pence and get the United States to commit to Turkey’s position that the Kurds don’t belong in the parts of Syria that Erdogan wants under Turkish rule.

Video: BoJo versus the “terrifying, limbless chickens”

Westlake Legal Group BoJoUN Video: BoJo versus the “terrifying, limbless chickens” United Nations United Kingdom The Blog Technology Speech chickens Boris Johnson Artificial Intelligence

I don’t know how well UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is going to do with his Brexit plan, but after his rather stunning speech at the United Nations yesterday I’m certainly a fan of his when it comes to the future of technology. We’ve been warning everyone for years about the advent of Artificial Intelligence, killer robots and they dystopian future that awaits us once our technology wakes up and takes control. As it turns out, BoJo thinks about these things all the time too.

If’ you’ve never gotten the chance to listen to Johnson Give a speech, don’t miss the supercut from The Guardian below. They’ve culled out two minutes of the best bits, where the PM warns the world about the internet of things, Alexa running your lives, nanorobots living in your bodies and, yes… terrifying limbless chickens. All of this awaits us if we don’t keep an eye on what companies like Google and Amazon are up to. (Associated Press)

Things the beleaguered British prime minister said in his astonishing speech to the U.N. General Assembly on Tuesday night: “Pink-eyed Terminators from the future.” ″Terrifying limbless chickens.” ″Your fridge will beep for more cheese.” …

Many didn’t know what to expect Tuesday after the court ruling came down hours before Johnson’s inaugural U.N. General Assembly speech as prime minister.

But it’s safe to say few anticipated what he dramatically and energetically delivered: a caffeinated screed about the damage that technology can do if misused — and the glories it can hand humanity if it is delivered properly.

Here’s the video. It’s really worth the click, trust me.

Johnson is always an entertaining speaker. If you Google Boris Johnson greatest quotes you’ll find a goldmine of memorable one liners. But even knowing how eccentric he can be at the podium, I didn’t see the “terrifying limbless chickens” line coming.

Still, BoJo may be on to something here. We don’t have to go so far as the terrifying killer robots of Boston Dynamics to find areas for concern. Google’s algorithms are getting smarter all the time and worming their way into all aspects of society. For just one example, it was only this week that McDonalds announced that you can now use either the Google Assistant or Amazon’s Alexa to apply for a job at the fast food chain. Just tell your phone or home-based device, “Help me find a job at McDonalds” and it will launch you into a process of landing an interview. After each question you answer it plays the “I’m loving it” jingle.

But what else will your digital servants be telling your prospective employer? Will it send along a greatest hits compliation of your dodgy tweets and Facebook posts? Perhaps it will forward a list of what porn sites you’ve been visiting or how often you go to the doctor. Imagine the possibilities.

The future is here, folks. And it’s inspiring and terrifying all at the same time. Boris Johnson knows this and he’s trying to warn the world. So don’t blame him when your refrigerator produces a limbless chicken for your dinner.

A Gen Z’er Schools You Slobs: You’ve Been Hurting Women’s Brains by Using This Common – and Terrible – Term (Video)

Westlake Legal Group people-2590593_1280-620x413 A Gen Z’er Schools You Slobs: You’ve Been Hurting Women’s Brains by Using This Common – and Terrible – Term (Video) Women woke Uncategorized The Sexes Speech Social Justice patriarchy nowthis language guys Gender Issues Front Page Stories foluke tuakli democrats Culture Allow Media Exception

Hey guys — I mean, zhes, here’s something you need to know: It’s inconsiderate to use the term “guys” when addressing a group that includes females.

So says NowThis producer Foluké Tuakli.

The energetic instructor points out that using the word ignores its “cognitive impact on women.”

Wait a minute — I thought there’s no such thing as male and female.

If I spent some time analyzing it, I believe I could come up with at least 3 or 4 different evolutionary tracks the social far Left is simultaneously traveling in the handling of the sexes, all of which contradict one another.

Anyway, in a new NowThis video, Foluké — who was 20 years old in 2016 — explains:

“‘Guys’ is a simple term. It could mean boys; or if you’re modern, hip, it means people.”

Modern and hip? Aw, girl, people’ve been using that term for at least several decades.

There’s nothing more winceworthy — and ubiquitous on the web as of late, it seems — than a young whippersnapper inadvertently revealing their punishingly insufficient historical perspective beyond the popularity of the Twilight saga.

But it’s okay, Foluké — I used to think my generation invented the F word.

Moving on:

“At first glance, ‘guys’ seems inviting, friendly, maybe warm, even comedic at times.”

Comedic?

“But it, like many default terms, should not be normalized as an all-encompassing phrase, innocent as it may seem.”

Too late, gal. It was normalized a long, long time ago. Catch up. Watch some 80’s movies. Maybe a few featuring the two Coreys. Or check out Growing Pains — you know, your parents’ jams.

In fact, hold your ears, Foluké–

The truth is, all you people have never taken a deep look. So the new generation’s here to woke you up:

“While we may understand the word means no real harm, with a deeper look you’ll understand that we’ve been ignoring the cognitive impact on women, as well as gender non-conforming folks by only explicitly addressing the male-identifying individuals present.”

Cognitive! You’ve been messing with chicks’ minds, ya shallow-lookin’ cavemen. Not to mention people who aren’t men or women or anything at all.

Let’s peer even deeper — Foluké lays out the heritage of your atrocious He-Man usage.

From The Daily Wire:

Tuakli then turns to the derivation of the word, asserting, “The meaning of ‘guys’ has changed over time.” She refers to a Washington Post article that quoted an etymologist saying the word derived from Guy Fawkes, who joined the failed 1605 failed Gunpowder plot and narrowly escaped being executed on the scaffold by jumping and breaking his neck. She then turns to The Boston Globe, which she says “broadened the term to include creepy people, then to a generic term for men.”

Oy.

According to our young and spunky guide — whether you realized it or not — all this time, you slobs have been making women downright uncomfortable:

“For decades, we have set a standard of only addressing the men in the room. Of course we claim it’s colloquial, but with our elevated knowledge and inclusive perspective, it just seems lazy, inconsiderate, and a small part of what reinforces the gender hierarchy today … Can we surprised that for decades, women felt uncomfortable asserting their voice when we didnt even take the time to properly acknowledge them?”

Take note: The woke are living on a different plane — one of elevated knowledge. No word yet on how they intend to be inclusive of people who use the term “guys.”

No matter, listen up: Feminists have a lot of work to do, and they don’t need you adding to the pile with your “guys” talk.

Take it away, Foluké:

“[We have to deal with] reproductive rights, rape culture, violence against women, LGBTQ rights, and the general reprogramming of most people’s minds. But when you stop valuing the personhood and visibility of individuals, you make it easier to dehumanize them on a macro scale, minimizing his, her, its, their right to respect and equality.”

Reprogramming. Most people’s minds.

That is a heavy burden.

She wants you to “know that this is one small step away from making a more conscious effort to dismantle the patriarchy.”

Foluké does make one point that’s inarguable: The word “gals” isn’t in common usage in the same way:

“Don’t believe me? Try walking into a room full of cisgender, heterosexual men and triumphantly announce, ‘Hey gals,’ ‘Okay, girls,’ ‘Thanks, Sis!’ I’m sure within ten minutes, if not seconds, at least one person will correct you.”

All of you women who are reading this, take particular note. Sit down for a minute. NowThis has a message for you.

Aw, who am I kidding? There’s no such thing as a woman reader of RedState. That’s why “women’s rights” exclusively just means left-wing causes.

Ain’t none of you guys black either — everybody knows that those who favor smaller government are exclusively white, male, and racist. #Patriarchy #Morons

Anyway, just for kicks, here’s how Foluké wraps it up for the cisgender females in the house:

“You can say that all of this is silly or too PC, but there are always larger societal implications of language — the way we use it and weaponize it. Face it: The way we do and say things matter. So if you do nothing else, repeat after me: I am powerful.”

If you’re powerful, then why are you hurt by people using the word “guys”?

Guess I’m just not looking deep enough. The gospel’s the gospel. Pass it on to some girl you (might?) know.

Actually, I really do agree with Foluké — I’ve never used the term “guys” to refer to a group.

Where I come from, we say “y’all.”

Who knew — the hicks were woke all along.

Think about it, you guys.

Noted Biblical Scholar Bernie Sanders Explains What the Bible Is Really About

Westlake Legal Group bible-light-rays-620x387 Noted Biblical Scholar Bernie Sanders Explains What the Bible Is Really About The Daily Caller Speech Social Justice Sins Politics Nonsense Jesus Front Page Stories Front Page Featured Story Election democrats Christianity Bible Bernie Sanders 2020

Just in case you don’t understand what the Bible is “really about,” no worries. Bernie Sanders is here for you and he’s using his noted expertise in Christianity to correct some common misinterpretations about Scripture.

You see, the bible isn’t about the grace and mercy offered via salvation in Christ, not by our own efforts but through his.

Nah, it’s about left-wing social justice.

The two presidential candidates addressed a group of black Christian millennials Saturday at a Black Church PAC’s Youth Leadership Conference in Atlanta. Both referenced the Bible to support their progressive agendas as they campaigned to the faithful.

“The Bible, if it is about anything, is about justice,” Sanders stated at one point during his 20 minutes on stage. “It is about reaching out to people in need. It is about standing up to the wealthy and the powerful.”

Sanders has previously described himself as “not particularly religious,” and said he’s “not actively involved in organized religion,” according to the Washington Post.

No. No, it’s not. Not at all.

The message of the Bible, much less the Gospels, is not “standing up to the wealthy and the powerful.” In fact, it was to the great dismay of many during Jesus’ time on earth that he wasn’t there to overthrow the wealthy and powerful (and oppressive) Romans. The path he walked was infinitely more important than dealings of worldly government and physical want. To pretend otherwise is pure nonsense.

What Bernie is doing is a common misconception harbored by people who otherwise have no real understanding of Christianity. While the New Testament does encourage charity, it was never meant to be forced and it was never meant to be primary. Helping the poor, while good, does not provide salvation nor was Jesus stumping for Medicare for All run by a central government. He was espousing the spiritual truth that those saved by Grace will be transformed into people who love God and love people, stimulating action toward those in need around them. Compulsion makes those acts worthless in God’s eyes.

Of course, Bernie’s greatest sin in this discussion isn’t misrepresenting charity in the Bible. It’s his complete distortion of who Jesus is by claiming the Bible is simply about “justice.” If the Bible were about “justice,” Jesus would have never came because all have fallen short and are deserving of judgement. That would have been justice. Instead, he came and died on the Cross, becoming the propitiation for our sins and saving us from the justice we actually deserved.  The message of the Bible isn’t that people deserve a living wage or whatever other socialist policy Bernie Sanders is stumping for. It’s that we all need a savior and that Jesus is that savior.

In short, if the Bible were about the proliferation of justice, we’d all be in really big trouble.

Politicians, especially those that aren’t even Christians (like Sanders), should steer clear of this kind of ridiculous rewriting of Biblical truth. I realize that Christians are not part of a “protected class” on the left and therefore our beliefs are often subjected to ridicule and distortion, but that doesn’t make it right. Stick to campaign slogans and making promises you can’t keep.

CNN’s April Ryan Has Her Security Assault a Journalist, Media Doesn’t Seem to Care

Westlake Legal Group CNN-620x280 CNN’s April Ryan Has Her Security Assault a Journalist, Media Doesn’t Seem to Care Speech Politics media bias Hypocrite Front Page Stories Front Page Freedom of the Press Featured Story democrats CNN Charlie Kratovil camera bodyguard assault april ryan

April Ryan is everything that’s wrong with “journalism” in the modern era.

She constantly engages in rabid partisanship and misleading analysis while framing herself as an innocent bystander. When she’s not picking fights at the White House, she’s moonlighting on CNN as a political analyst, which is just code for her showing up and being a liberal hack. This a women so unprofessional that she once threatened to take down Sarah Sanders in a street fight. There was also an episode involving her saying Sanders’ head should be lopped off,  because inciteful language is only a thing on the right apparently. Just recently, she called the currently unemployed Andrew Gillum “governor” because journalism or something.

The point being, this is not a serious person we are dealing with.

So when I came across this story and subsequent video evidence last night, none of it was surprising.

Here’s the story per Charlie Kratovil’s description of events.

I should start by noting he’s a liberal journalist so this is not a case of a right wing outlet baiting someone (not that such would excuse physical misconduct). Kratovil was at a convention where April Ryan was set to speak because I guess that’s a thing people pay for. He received prior permission to film the event. When he arrived he setup his camera and filmed other speakers as the day went on. Before Ryan went on though, she sent her security detail to demand Kratovil take down his camera. He refused, citing that he had permission.

That’s when things got even crazier. Ryan then actually took the stage and told the audience that she does not allow her speeches to be filmed.

What this shows is that her bodyguard wasn’t just acting on his own. She had actually told him to go stop Kratovil from recording. It should be noted this is the same April Ryan who has constantly whined about freedom of the press and having her voice suppressed when it comes to the Trump White House, claims that hold basis in fact. Yet, here she is playing diva, demanding that she not be filmed while she speaks. That’s some serious hypocrisy.

Eventually, as per the video above, the bodyguard steal the camera and physically assault Kratovil by twisting his arm and while throwing him out of the facility.

CNN clearly has issues and this is just the latest in a list of scandals they’ve dealt with this week. What will they do about this? The answer is almost certainly nothing. Had a conservative speaker ordered his bodyguard to do this, we would never hear the end of it and every prime time show on CNN would lead with it. Because Ryan is a liberal though, she apparently has immunity. In fact, this altercation took place over a week ago and CNN has yet to even mention it while Brian Stelter is nowhere to be found. It wasn’t until the video dropped yesterday that the story started to gain traction on right-wing outlets and among some more honest liberal journalists defending their colleague.

Even with clear video evidence showing wrongdoing, Ryan hasn’t apologized. Instead, she’s spent her day blocking people on Twitter who ask her for answers because freedom of the press and all that, right? These people are massive hypocrites. They truly believe they are part of an untouchable, elite class for which normal rules do not apply.

As to the media at large, they don’t get to scream incitement at the right constantly and then just ignore an actual physical assault by a liberal from CNN.

University Recommends Avoiding Words Like “America”

Colorado State University has an “Inclusive Communications Task Force,” and they have put together an Inclusive Language Guide to avoid hurt feelings on campus. Not only does it police language by telling readers what words and phrases to avoid, it suggests replacements so that “communicators practice inclusive language and [help] everyone on [its] campus feel welcomed, respected, and valued.”

Campus Reform reports:

CSU lists both “American” and “America” as non-inclusive words “to avoid,” due to the fact that America encompasses more than just the U.S. By referring to the U.S. as America, the guide claims that one “erases other cultures and depicts the United States as the dominant American country.” The school suggests using “U.S. citizen” or “person from the U.S.” as substitutes.

The university additionally lists many gendered words and phrases to avoid. These include “male,” “female,” “ladies and gentlemen,” and “Mr./Mrs./Ms.”

“Male and female refers to biological sex and not gender,” says the guide. “In terms of communication methods (articles, social media, etc.), we very rarely need to identify or know a person’s biological sex and more often are referring to gender.”

“Straight” is another word to avoid, according to CSU. The guide explained that “when used to describe heterosexuals, the term straight implies that anyone LGBT is ‘crooked’ or not normal,” and says to use the word “heterosexual” instead.

I agree with this next one, but because it’s grammatically incorrect, not because of their nonsense.

According to the list, the phrase “handicap parking” should also not be used because it can “minimize personhood” and offend disabled people. The guide recommends “accessible parking” as an alternative.

Now, take a look at these:

“War,” “cake walk,” “eenie meenie miney moe,” “Eskimo,” “freshman,” “hip hip hooray!”, “hold down the fort,” “starving,” and “policeman” were among other words and phrases deemed non-inclusive by CSU.

I can only understand the problem with “eskimo” (the proper term is “Inuit”) and “policeman” (it should be the gender-neutral “law enforcement officer” or “police officer,” I guess). I suppose “starving” is offensive in its hyperbole. But why is “eenie meenie miney moe” problematic? Or the word “war” in and of itself?

Nicole Neily, president of Speech First, told Campus Reform that “even though these guidelines are suggested and not mandatory, they place students in the uncomfortable position of reciting politically correct talking points that they may not agree with. Words like ‘American,’ ‘male,’ and ‘female’ are used every day by billions of people around the world. When these students graduate, they’re in for a rude awakening!”

But don’t worry. It notes that “language is always evolving so this document will be updated periodically.” One hopes that they will decide in future iterations that these words are no longer offensive, but I don’t hold out much hope.

It costs around $10,000- $30,000 per year to attend Colorado State (depending on whether or not you’re an in-state student). How much of that tuition money goes towards paying people to suggest limitations on your rights like they do on this task force?

Against All Odds, America Survived Donald Trump Giving a Speech on Fourth of July

We did it.

I don’t know how we did it, but it’s a testament to our resilience as a nation. Somehow, someway, we mustered the strength to survive the President giving a completely non-political speech on Fourth of July.

And did I mention there were tanks?

The collective freak out that accompanied this past week’s lead up to the annual Independence Day festivities on the National Mall has been something to behold.

Here’s just a taste of the hysterics we witnessed.

Absolutely chilling.

Here’s video of the speech if you’d care to see some cool flyovers and a brief history of United States. The absolute horror contained within is hard to take, so viewer discretion is advised.

So what actually happened? Trump gave a very good, non-political speech that spent time honoring key figures in American history, as well as each branch of the military.

It was unifying and even the most ardent Trump opposer should have been able to suspend their delusion for a moment and just enjoy the spectacle. B-2 Bombers and F-22s flying over are cool. The band playing the different songs of the branches is cool. There’s nothing wrong with any of that.

Of course, despite Trump making his naysayers look like petty children for being so over the top about the whole thing, the left-wing media responded exactly as you’d expect.

CNN aired the rest of the speech, but afterward, the floodgates of stupid shattered into a million pieces. Kirby led by asserting that he’s “troubled about the militaristic tone of the whole thing” that was “fairly sepia toned, and saccharine in its depth and context” lacking anything “about where the country should be going, what we should be working on.”

I just want to point out that had the President actually included “where the country should be going” in his speech, these same people would have lost their minds over him politicizing the event.

It didn’t end there though. Here’s April Ryan ranting about…well something.

As he’s saluting the military, I also watched him and heard him talk about women’s suffrage, you know, a hundred years ago how women weren’t allowed to vote. But there are still calls for him to have free and fair elections, you know, especially after this last midterm where there were calls about and not just women but just but for minorities as well issues of voter suppression.

This is CNN. She’s of course alluding to noted Georgia Gov. Stacey Abrams, who lost her election by 55,000 votes amid absolutely no evidence of voter suppression. But who’s keeping track?

The insanity that has descended upon our political discourse has reached heights that I would have laughed off as improbable just a few years ago. Literally, every single thing Donald Trump does must be spun as the end of the world. A few Bradleys on the Mall? Tienanmen Square all over again. A speech honoring the military? Trump is declaring himself dictator.

There’s such a thing as overplaying your hand and I’m beginning to think the left may be reaching that point. Are normal Americans really looking at this nonsense and thinking “yeah, I want to give them power?” I can’t say for sure, but I’m hopeful not.

Romney’s first floor speech nudges Trump: We need to rein in China, and to do that we need allies

This will be hyped by most media outlets as a straightforward rebuke to the president, which it sort of is. Romney’s political identity circa 2019 is almost entirely defined by his relationship to Trump, first as the last Republican nominee before the Trump era, then as a vicious critic of Trump’s during the 2016, then as an unlikely Secretary of State candidate for President-elect Trump, and finally as a senator and informal leader of the GOP’s center-right Trump-skeptical wing. Any time Mitt disagrees with POTUS, that disagreement lends itself to a lazy “battle for the soul of the Republican Party” frame.

His speech today is more clever than that, though. Romney chose to focus on a pressing subject on which he *doesn’t* disagree with Trump, the urgent need to cut China down to size and force it to play by the rules on international trade. Beijing, not the White House, is his prime target here, and to emphasize the point Romney made sure to reference his famous comment in 2012 that Russia is America’s chief geopolitical foe. His goal with these remarks was to stress that that’s no longer true. Russia is a nation in decline, he notes (correctly), adding that declining powers can be dangerous. The nation in ascendance is China, and America is ill-prepared to compete with the Chinese if things don’t change soon.

What things, you say? As Romney explains it, only by adopting virtually every major element of the pre-Trump center-right agenda — the Romney 2012 agenda, essentially — can America rise to the challenge. Want to check China’s inevitable military expansionism? Then you need NATO. We’re not going to outfight a nation four times as large as we are that’s catching up in technological sophistication. Want to out-innovate China? Then implement a more forgiving immigration policy, at least for skilled immigrants. Want to win a trade war with China? Then target China with tariffs, not American allies like Canada and Mexico. Build a trade coalition. Want to outlast China? Then don’t allow entitlements to grow to the point where we’re spending more on interest than we are on the Pentagon. Want to unite America behind the goal of checking China? Then don’t use the bully pulpit of the presidency to show “contempt” for your political opponents.

In other words, Romney’s trying to sell Trump (and what few Trump supporters are still open to hearing him out) on the idea that he shares their goals of putting America first and putting China in its place, hoping that that’ll make them more open to input on how we should go about achieving that. His approach to Trump reminds me a bit of the approach taken by Lindsey Graham and Rand Paul, each of whom has chosen to be cronyist towards POTUS in the hope that earning his favor will steer him their way on foreign policy. Romney’s not a crony but he understands that Trump views political actors as either “pro-Trump” or “anti-Trump” and that only those in the first group are capable of influencing the president. Supporting the White House on a major foreign policy strategy is Romney’s way of showing that he’s not strictly anti-Trump. Now maybe POTUS will give him a listen on tactics.

Not gonna work, of course, but it’s a shrewd tone-setter for Mitt’s Senate tenure. Here he is, followed by Joe Biden once again sounding weirdly sanguine about the threat from China. If you’re not up for 15 minutes of video, you can read a transcript of the speech here.

WATCH: Pro-Lifers Prove They’re More Energized and Numerous than Pro-Abortionists During Rally In Brian Sims Neighborhood

When a rally is planned, it’s usually put on with days and even weeks of advance notice. However, when a pro-life rally was planned in response to Pennsylvania Rep. Brian Sims after he had harassed and attempted to doxx teenage girls who were praying in front of a Planned Parenthood, people couldn’t wait to get together.

According to the Daily Wire, over 1,000 people gathered from all over the country to take part in the pro-life rally in front of the same Planned Parenthood where Sims harassed people. Matt Walsh, who spoke at the rally, noted that this kind of energy will never be seen at a pro-abortion rally, a group he calls “a sad and lethargic thing.”

Former Planned Parenthood exec Abby Johnson, the author of the book “Unplanned,” also spoke at the rally that the Daily Wire described as comprised mostly of women.

“It is time to refuse to ‘choose.’ We will not choose between one or the other. We will respect both women and their children, and their femininity, and their reproduction, and their fertility. And we will continue to do it until clinics like this no longer exist, and every woman who walks into a physician’s office is actually treated with love and respect and care,” she said according to the Daily Wire.

In fact, every speaker at the rally, with the exception of Matt Walsh, was a woman according to LifeNews.

The mother of the two bullied teens also showed up to say a few words to the crowd as well.

“God is moving in incredible ways and we’re just along for the ride; we are standing on the side of angels,” she added.

The Daily Wire’s Michael Knowles also showed up to cover the rally. He noted that many showed up, but noticeably missing was Sims who had apparently been invited to the rally in order to have a conversation with pro-lifers. However, as Knowles pointed out, Sims has no interest in actually talking with anyone. Without the ability to bully or intimidate, Sims was a no-show.
