Ted Cruz: If Republicans Want to ‘Demoralize’ Their Base, They’ll Placate the Undecided with Gun Control

Westlake Legal Group firearm-409252_1280-620x413 Ted Cruz: If Republicans Want to ‘Demoralize’ Their Base, They’ll Placate the Undecided with Gun Control Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

On Thursday, Ted Cruz told gatherers at a Christian Science Monitor event that GOP legislators must stand firm against the Dems’ new far-Left turn toward gun confiscation (here).

Ted was asked by The Hill’s Alexander Bolton about Republican politicians placating swing voters with modified gun control.

This was his reply:

“If Republicans abandon the Second Amendment and demoralize millions of Americans who care deeply about Second Amendment rights, that could go a long way to electing a President Elizabeth Warren. We’re going to see record-shattering Democratic turnout. The only element missing to ensure Democratic victory is demoralizing conservatives so they stay home. I hope we don’t do that. I think that would be a serious mistake.”

“But it would also be a serious mistake as a policy matter,” he added.

His comment on demoralization shouldn’t go unnoticed. He makes an interesting point.

As for policy efficacy, he noted that the Manchin-Toomey bill (expanding background checks to gun shows and internet sales but not transactions among friends and family) wouldn’t have made a difference in recent mass shootings:

“The Democrats’ proposal would not have prevented any of these mass murders. We ought to be focusing seriously, substantively on how you stop these horrific crimes – and what they’re proposing wouldn’t do it. What I’m proposing has a far greater likelihood of preventing these kinds of crimes.”

And concerning the gratuitous gun grab, Ted believes the confiscators comin’ for ya won’t be satisfied with Wave 1:

“Democratic gun confiscation proposals, which are getting more and more common – and by the way, when it comes to gun confiscation on the Left, it starts with so-called ‘assault rifles,’ but the next step is handguns. Now, at this point, I expect people around the room to snicker and say, ‘Come on! That’s ridiculous. They’ll never go to handguns.’ Just remember that in about 24 months when we see them pushing for handgun confiscation – they have not yet proposed it, but that is, I believe, their ultimate goal…full confiscation – that would cost lives.”

Ted also explained that Americans defend themselves with firearms between 500,000 and 3,000,000 times per year, and that the ol’ 2A is “a powerful tool of women’s empowerment.”

Furthermore, Cruz assured he wants to “do more about gun violence,” but that the Democrats’ maneuvering is about politics rather than the actual issue.

Not very long ago at all, those across the aisle sometimes literally laughed on television when a conservative brought up the notion that the Left was moving toward confiscation.

My, how quickly the world has turned.

Are Comedians Finally Fighting Back Against the Far Left’s Cultural Clampdown?

Westlake Legal Group comedian-2125295_1280-620x413 Are Comedians Finally Fighting Back Against the Far Left’s Cultural Clampdown? Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

Are comedians fighting back against the cultural Marxism of the critics?

So-called political correctness — which, oddly enough, is a line of ideological adherence which is neither political nor correct — has appeared to be clamping down on the comic stage for quite a while.

But there’s recent evidence to suggest those at the mic are trying to bust free.

Buzzfeed recently scolded Dave Chappelle for “truly vile” jokes about transgender people, Michael Jackson, and the #MeToo movement in his Netflix special Sticks and Stones. Vice told folks to “skip” the performance, and Vanity Fair called the act “stale.”

Surely some on the far Left were also none to fond of Dave’s bit on the pro-choice position’s natural conclusion.

These days, as noted by The Daily caller, “One wrong word can get you canceled.”

Just ask Norm Macdonald: His Tonight Show appearance got shut down over his expressed empathy for Roseanne Barr and Louis C.K.

Comedian Nick Di Paolo — who’s politically conservative — told TDC the Left have come all the way ’round:

“It’s come full circle, now they’re eating each other. I’m the counter culture now, guys like me that lean right, those people, the woke ones, they are the culture. That’s how bad it is, that Chappelle and Bill Burr are labeled like the Anti-PC guys.”

Nick believes initial intentions were good:

“It started off with the right instincts. Nobody is for sexual harassment. Now they’ve taken it too…far. They’re lumping [Louis C.K.] in with Harvey Weinstein. And they’re not making any distinction. They got way ahead of their skiis on that one. It just got crazy.”

Joe Rogan pointed out some of the madness — specifically, the Left’s new notion that men and women are athletically the same — in his new video Triggered:

“It’s not sexist to say that women can’t do big physical labor things as good as giant men can. But people will tell you it is. Well, I’m not sexist. As a matter of fact, my favorite people are all female. I have a wife, and I have three daughters. They’re my favorite people in the world. But I could beat the **** out of all of them.”

In one of Chappelle’s segments, he did an impression of the audience telling a performer if they make a mistake, they’re done:

“If you do anything wrong in your life, and I find out about it, I’m gonna try and take everything away from you. … If I find out, you’re ****ing finished.”

“That’s what the audience sounds like to me,” he explained. “That’s why I don’t be coming out doing comedy all the time, ‘cause y’all…[are] the worst [people] I’ve ever tried to entertain in my…life.”

Some entertainers are echoing the sentiment:

To me personally, it seems that the whole idea of a joke has kind of gone out the window. It’s supposed to be a light comment not meant to be taken seriously.

But boy are there some serious people listening.

“This is the worst time ever to be a celebrity,” Dave lamented. “Everyone’s doomed.”

Dana Loesch Drops the Bomb on Beto for Threatening to ‘Forcibly Steal’ Americans’ Property

Beto O’Rourke — who it would appear is trying to see just how badly he can lose the Democratic nomination — keeps telling people that their America’s-most-popular hunting rifle — the type that’s rarely used in the commission of a crime — is a “weapon of war.” Furthermore, during Thursday’s debate, he suggested that he and others have previously allowed those of you who own the gun to shoot one another, but he’s decided to stop you now:

“Hell, yes — we’re going to take your AR-15…we’re not going to allow it to be used against our fellow Americans anymore.”

So that’s you — the murderin’ type with your military madness.

Beto’s a whole different type: He’s the kind who inherits millions, marries into a half-billion-dollar fortune, and then promises to fight against privileged wealth.

And if you don’t believe him, he’s not afraid to change a tire and prove it (here).

And if you still don’t believes he’s cool, he can flip a burger and then say the F word (here).

As for the “weapon of war” thing, as I wrote previously, “That’s a nonsense term used to fill incendiary syllables like a similar substance invading a diaper” (For much more, please read my article here).

Is O’Rourke’s candidacy real, or is it a very well-done prank?

Former NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch is erring on the side of caution, so she appeared on Tucker Carlson Tonight Friday to address the El Paso native’s new T-shirts:

Speaking to guest host Brian Kilmeade, Dana called Beto’s message a threat to “forcibly steal” Americans’ “lawfully-owned and responsibly-used property.”

“I am absolutely amazed,” she said, “that a lawmaker — that someone running for the highest office in the land — would actually try to raise money off of a threat to the public.”

She’s right — it is absolutely amazing.

Furthermore, Dana asserted that, while Beto is certainly threatening the citizenry, it isn’t a threat for people to say they won’t allow him to take what is theirs:

“And I want to be really clear about this. When you tell law abiding Americans that you are going to forcibly steal their lawfully owned and responsibly used property, that’s a threat. And saying that ‘no you are not, I want to be able to defend myself in return.’ That is not a threat.”

Such an issue did indeed arise on Twitter Thursday, as Texas state representative Briscoe Cain posted this in response:

Loesch also made reference to the infamous Wounded Knee massacre, in which hundreds of men, women and children of the Lakota Indian tribe were killed by U.S. soldiers:

“[I ]don’t know if that’s what Democrats and Beto O’Rourke are trying to move us towards. I sincerely hope not. I hope they respect the law of the land. I hope they respect the Constitution. But, I just find this talk reprehensible and I think that the party needs to show where they are with Americans and condemn it.”

It also sheds more light, in her view, on red flag laws:

“Beto O’Rourke just tried red flagging Americans, so I hope all of those Republicans [learn] this is where red flag laws get you.”

As for the T-shirt, people are posting their own in response:

A little Doc Holiday for ya there.

It looks as if there’s even a libertarian response:

Beto’s done a bang-up job making himself quickly irrelevant in the  race for 2020 White House euphoria. But will his far, far Left antics benefit him in the long run? Let us all know in the Comments section. If y’all can stop shootin’ each other long enough to type.

A Hit-Making Music Star Announces That He is No Longer a Man

Every generation has its revelations.

For some among the most recent batch, profundity seems directly linked to single syllable words.

On Friday, music star Sam Smith released something brand new.

His latest project isn’t an album, video, or tour; it’s a request to be referred to by certain pronouns.

That would be, the gender-neutral kind.

He’s finally come to terms with it.

Sam described the new acceptance on Instagram:

“I’ve decided I am changing my pronouns to THEY/THEM after a lifetime of being at war with my gender I’ve decided to embrace myself for who I am, inside and out. I’m so excited and privileged to be surrounded by people that support me in this decision but I’ve been very nervous about announcing this because I care too much about what people think but f*** it! I understand there will be many mistakes and misgendering but all I ask is you please please try. I hope you can see me like I see myself now.”

The “Stay with Me” singer said he can’t wait to find out what it’s like to be neither boy nor girl:

“P.S. I am at no stage just yet to eloquently speak at length about what it means to be non binary but I can’t wait for the day that I am.”

It appears that, for some, a wholly new defining moment of life has entered the zeitgeist: When you’re ready, you make the announcement — are you an “h” subjective pronoun person or an “sh”? Or do you like “they” best of all?

Sam’s gone with option C, and he’s flyin’ high due to the newfound freedom:

“Love you all. I’m scared sh**less, but feeling super free right now. Be kind x”

He also included a list of “activists and leaders of the non binary/trans community” that have helped him find his way to clarity.

Those included television actor Laverne Cox (here), the Human Rights Campaign, GLAAD, Mermaids UK (which “[supports#transgender & #gender variant children & their families”), and @transnormativity.

That last one appears to be the account of an individual serving as an exemplar on the web for the gender neutral and fat-shamed:

View this post on Instagram

there is no singular way to be

A post shared by being queer is not a sin (@transnormativity) on Aug 19, 2019 at 2:50pm PDT

It’s a new road ahead for Sam Smith. We’ll see how the change manifests itself in the future.

Jamele Hill Says Trump’s Made White Democratic Voters Unlikely To Vote For Anyone But Biden

Jamele Hill’s need to inject race into every argument isn’t really that horrible. She’s doing the heavy lifting to support and encourage her community, and that’s a good thing. And even when her arguments are borderline hypocritical — such as her recent assertion that black athletes only attend historically black colleges (to help those colleges compete financially) — it’s easy to understand where she’s coming from (even if she’ll likely never answer why it would be ok for black athletes to do that but not any other race without calls — and for good reason— of racism).

But her attempts to analyze politics? Horrible.

Take the tweet above. She’s responding to a question a Twitter follower asked her when she proclaimed Biden’s only role as a Democrat frontrunner is to keep the white vote because they wouldn’t vote for anyone else on the Democratic debate stage.

Of course the implication is that white people won’t vote for anyone not white, male, or heterosexual. Which is a pretty bigoted view of the world. But the idea that Trump — who has apparently caused voters to experience auditory or visual hallucinations, or moments of intense rage, self-loathing, or overwhelming guilt the way survivors of war or sexual assault or child abuse do — is the reason Democrat voters might prefer Biden is simply…absurd.

Booker, Warren, Harris, Buttigieg, Yang et al may not be electable, as Hill suggests. But it’s not because of Donald Trump. Like every other candidate, their messages have to resonate and voters have to trust they’ll do the job to make their vote or donation worth it. So far, Biden has that locked down.

At some point, Ms. Hill, real winners take responsibility for themselves and they succeed on their own merit without having to point a finger at what’s been stopping them.

You, as a well-known writer and television personality, surely have experienced how much work it takes to make it. Surely you wouldn’t suggest the only way you succeeded was because someone else — a competitor — was marginalized to clear the path for you. That would be mitigating your own hard-won success.

Trump’s existence is neither elevating Biden nor marginalizing any other Democratic candidate. They all, like you, are rising or falling based on their individual skills and charisma. It’s insulting to them and voters to suggest otherwise.

Amid Absolute Absurdity, Thursday’s Debate Spotlighted America as a Shining City Upon a Hill

During Thursday night’s Democratic debate — due to which Dave Rubin lamented he picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue — there was, as expected, mucho goofiness.

Our rich Uncle Bernie called Trump the most dangerous president in history:

And Beto O’Rourke — who seems absolutely hellbent on losing as steeply as is mathematically possible — taped what BlazeTV called a campaign ad for Donald Trump. The anti-privileged millionaire privileged millionaire vowed to take away your hunting rifles because, prior to now, “they’ve” been allowing you to shoot each other:

But there was at least one great thing offered during Thursday night’s showout blowout: Andrew Yang’s truly American story, about an actual immigrant participating in actual immigration — that would be, rather than what many Democrats and media figures have been inaccurately calling “immigration,” which is in fact its opposite.

In a bizarre move, the term has of late been employed to mean “choosing to not take part in our immigration system.”

But Andrew conjured it correctly. His origins are inspiring:

“My father grew up on a peanut farm in Asia with no floor. And now, his son is running for president. That is the immigration story that we have to be able to share with the American people.”

Andrew truly is proof that the American dream is alive and well for those who believe in a better life — in this greatest country on earth, what Ronald Reagan called “a shining city upon a hill”:

Being that — were he to receive the nomination — he would ultimately face the GOP incumbent, Andrew understandably tried to contrast himself with Trump. Unfortunately, he did so in a way that made absolutely no sense, given that the purpose of a border barrier is to prevent people from sneaking into the country, not keep people from actually immigrating:

“[I] am the opposite of Donald Trump in many ways. He says, ‘Build a wall;’ I’m going to say to immigrants, ‘Come to America, because if you come here, your son or daughter can run for president. The water’s great.’”

A wall doesn’t keep out immigrants; immigrants come in through immigration. Oh well, it was a Democratic debate; rightfulness could only last so long.

Nonetheless, his story is inspiring. And here’s a bonus: While some on the far Left — including the mayor of New York — have claimed America “was never great”…

…Andrew praised the U.S. and spoke of its “continued” success:

“This country has been a magnet for human capital for generations. If we lose that, we lose something integral to our continued success.”

America is indeed a nation of immigrants, and Andrew Yang is a reminder of that.

It’d be great to see more similar moments during the debates; lamentably, we’re more likely to hear Julián Castro champion taxpayer-funded abortions for men who would otherwise eject infants from their peeholes(?):

Goobers gonna goob.

‘Morning Joe’s’ Mika Goes Full Maury, Questions the Paternity of Barron Trump

Westlake Legal Group egg-1364869_1280-620x391 ‘Morning Joe’s’ Mika Goes Full Maury, Questions the Paternity of Barron Trump Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

On Friday morning, MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski took a novel approach to news and commentary: She turned into Maury Povich.

The Morning Joe chick went full “Who’s your daddy” with regard to 13-year-old Barron Trump.

Joe — Mika’s husband — referenced a comment from POTUS two days before:

“We’re going to have Donald Trump, yesterday — I think it was yesterday — in the White House, talking about ‘Melania’s son.’”

Mika theorized:

“Maybe it is Melania’s son…”

“It is Melania’s son?” Joe volleyed.

Take it away, Maury…uh, Mika:

“Well, that’s what he was saying. He was saying it was just her son. It’s not — that’s just what he said.”

Joe: “Let me get back to Biden, because I don’t know exactly what you’re saying.”

“It seems that he didn’t remember Barron’s name or…”

“Just stop, just stop,” the hubs halted.

As noted by The Daily Wire, on Wednesday, the President was speaking to reporters about vaping:

“[It] has become a very big business as I understand it, like a giant business in a very short period of time. But we can’t allow people to get sick, and we can’t have our youth be so affected. And I’m hearing it, and that’s how the First Lady got involved. She’s got a son, together, that is a beautiful young man and she feels very, very strongly about it.”

Therefore, apparently, Trump ain’t the pops.

Perhaps you frequently wonder how comments made about Trump would be received, were they spoken about Obama. If not, this might be a good opportunity for ya to start.

Social media noticed the daytime-talk-show low of it all:

I’ll say this, though: Mika’s not necessarily soiling the network’s reputation. It’s got a great history, and no one can take that away:

Have you seen Dave Chappelle’s new Netflix special, Sticks and Stones? In it, the comedian takes a shot at cancel culture amid addressing other contemporary woes.

If you like, check out the culture bit here. But beware — Dave uses language you won’t soon be hearing from the pulpit. Although you may be seeing a drag show.

Back to Dave, as you might imagine, some haven’t appreciated his poking at indignation.

And that makes sense — if you ridicule fragility and outrage, you can expect the fragile to be…well, you know.

South Park co-creator Matt Stone — a guy who knows a thing or two about making people mad — is further explaining the situation via a new interview in The Hollywood Reporter.

Of cancel culture, Matt observes, “It’s new. I don’t want to say it’s the same as it’s always been. The kids are f*****g different than us.”

They sure as heck are. And it sure as heck is.

“There’s a generational thing going on.”

Matt’s pro-Dave, and despite some cries from critics who didn’t find his latest offering sufficiently left-wing, he doesn’t expect the star to be effectively dumped any time soon.

Stone also thinks some of the negative professional reviews were a load of horse pucky:

“I know some people have been canceled for genuinely, like, personal behavior, but Dave is not getting canceled anytime soon. I feel bad for television critics and cultural critics. They may have laughed like hell at that, and then they went home and they kn[e]w what they ha[d] to write to keep their job. So when I read TV reviews or cultural reviews, I think of someone in prison, writing. I think about somebody writing a hostage note. This is not what they think. This is what they have to do to keep their job in a social media world. So I don’t hold it against them.”

If Dave had wanted praise from the prisoners, perhaps he should’ve just spent the entire 65 minutes on the Donald Trump — a subject, by the way, Matt was happy to move on from, after spending a bucket or two on it last season. Starting anew, he found refreshment in looking elsewhere:

“It was nice for us. It was nice to not come in and talk about Donald Trump. And I think it was nice for people to watch and go, ‘Oh, yeah, there is still comedy outside of…Donald Trump. There is still funny [stuff] as the world goes on.’ And you can get your Trump comedy on so many other shows.”

You suuuure can.

But as for his new leaf, the comedy writer can’t promise anything for sure:

“[I]f we came up with something tomorrow, we’d do it. We don’t have any rules.”

It seems Matt has quite the different opinion than media heads and Twitter trolls everywhere — as we’re seeing increasingly as we go, there are absolutely, most definitely rules.

I can’t tell if he keeps one-upping himself with every stunningly ridiculous move, or if they’re all equally striking and I just can’t used to the extreme level of goofiness.

Continuing his spree, on Thursday, the anti-privileged-millionaire privileged millionaire — who, at last look, was in the lower single digits of nominee likelihood — called on banks to stop mass shootings by ending the issuance of credit cards.

–At least those that can be used for any purchases from manufacturers of guns or ammo:

“Credit cards have enabled many of America’s mass shootings in the last decade—and with Washington unwilling to act, they need to cut off the sales of weapons of war today.”

As posted by ABC presidential campaign reporter Jeffrey Cook:

NEW: Beto O’Rourke has returned to Texas for tonight’s debate doubling down on gun control. Now calling for banks and credit card companies to refuse service to:

  • assault weapon sales
  • sales w/o background checks
  • gun/ammo manufacurturers who producing assault weapons

It seems it would be preferable to know things before he speaks about them, but to each his own.

There is, of course — for all intents and purposes — no such thing as commercially available “weapons of war.” That’s a nonsense term used to fill incendiary syllables like a similar substance invading a diaper. For much more on that, please read my article here.

As for gun shows and background checks, here’s The Federalist from 2015:

In reality, the so-called “gun show loophole” is a myth. It does not exist. There is no loophole in federal law that specifically exempts gun show transactions from any other laws normally applied to gun sales. Not one.

If you purchase a firearm from a federal firearms licensee (FFL) regardless of the location of the transaction — a gun store, a gun show, a gun dealer’s car trunk, etc. — that FFL must confirm that you are legally allowed to purchase that gun. That means the FFL must either run a background check on you via the federal NICS database, or confirm that you have passed a background check by examining your state-issued concealed carry permit or your government-issued purchase permit. There are zero exceptions to this federal requirement.

But Beto’s leading the revolution:

Speaking to ABC News, the regular-ol’-guy burger-flipper and Irish-Spring-clean tire-changer believes banks can lead us to safety if Congress won’t:

“If this Congress and this president won’t act, the least the financial industry could do is stop profiting off of sales of these weapons. If enough of us speak out, they’ll consider it.”

Hey — I have an idea: How about we instead create a petition to force banks to just tell all card-holding murderers they’re not allowed to use their plastic in the commission of mass slaughter? If the Dems are right, and if vicious massacre-makers obey laws, then surely they’ll acquiesce to a request, too.

Nothing says “deterrent” like “policy.”

Problem solved. Because, as we all — including Beto — know, mentally ill, violent, sadistic psychopaths absolutely never deal in cash.

America, now you’re safe.

You’re welcome.

Rep. Jim Jordan Blasts Red Flag Laws – They Attack a ‘Fundamental and Sacred Principle’ of America

On Tuesday, during a hearing on a “red flag” law, Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan sounded off.

The House was debating multiple gun control bills, including H.R. 1236 — the Extreme Risk Protection Order Act of 2019.

Under the law, certain people would be able to petition a court to impede an American’s 2nd Amendment rights:

[In response to the petition, a court may prohibit] a named individual from having under the custody or control of the individual, owning, purchasing, possessing, or receiving a firearm…[or] having a firearm removed or requiring the surrender of firearms from a named individual.

Despite support from some Republicans, the concept of red flag laws is, of course, a serious potential threat to constitutional liberty and due process.

Subsequently, Jim blasted the legislation, which he insisted would put the kibosh on “innocent until proven guilty.”

The congressman also pointed out the bill’s alarming designation of those granted the ability to petition a court.

Here’s part of what he had to say:

If the House Judiciary passes this bill today, we will have changed a fundamental and sacred principle in this country. In America, you are innocent until proven guilty until today. If we pass this bill today, we are going to invert the standard and say, “you are guilty until proven innocent, and you will be guilty without doing anything wrong.” Under this bill, you are guilty without doing anything wrong simply because someone thinks you might do something wrong – and who is this someone under this bill who can petition the court to take away your Second Amendment liberties? Who is this someone defined under this bill? Page 13, amendment … it says “family or household member.” Go down to subsection D. Who’s a household member? “An individual who resides or who has resided with the respondent during the past year.” A roommate who hung out with you for one month last year can go petition a court to take away your Second Amendment liberties. Some roommate maybe didn’t like you, thought you were a slob, whatever, can go petition the court to take away your fundamental right without you doing anything wrong – and oh, guess what? When they go in the court to take away your fundamental liberty even though you haven’t done anything, committed no crime, guess what? You don’t even get to be there; you don’t even get to defend yourself.

We all want to stop gun violence. We all know these terrible evil things that happen are just that, terrible and evil, but trying to do something that this bill seeks to do in this manner is so fundamentally wrong, and again, for the Judiciary Committee in the United States House of Representatives, who is charged more than any other committee in this body with defending the Constitution and the Bill of Rights, to pass this, it’s just wrong.

Solid points.

As reported by The Daily Wire, H.R. 1236 has only two Republican sponsors — Christopher Smith of New Jersey and Pennsylvania’s Brian Fitzpatrick and

No matter, Trump hasn’t said he’ll sign any of the current gun control legislation.

Speaking to CBS News, Mitch McConnell called all the current batch of anti-gun proposals sheer “theatrics”:

“We are working on coming up with a proposal that the president will sign. Until that happens, all of this is theatrics.”
