PETA Means to Stifle Medical Innovation and Stop Medical Advances

We have been witnessing unprecedented innovations in medical treatments. In the coming years new drug therapies promise to provide solutions for some of the most pressing diseases — diabetes, cancer, heart disease, strokes, Alzheimer’s, retinal diseases — to name only a few. But if People for the “Ethical” Treatment of Animals (PETA) gets their way, most of the research that feeds the amazing future cures that we read about will be shut down or severely curtailed.

For the past few years PETA has undertaken a pressure campaign designed to intimidate airlines from transporting medical research animals. Even though it is illegal for the airlines to refuse to perform service, the campaign is proving successful in certain cases and a widespread adoption of this policy would likely stymie medical innovation.

PETA opposes all forms of animal testing despite the fact that the National Institutes of Health views such research as required by ethics and essential to finding cures. Scientists and researchers do as much research as possible with computer modeling and peer reviewed science, but at some point they must test the most promising medicines on living organisms. For example, pigs were used to develop both the ability to transplant a heart and the drugs that stop the body from rejecting the new heart. It was done ethically, with rigorous standards and oversight, and with anesthetics so as to eliminate pain for the animals involved. But PETA ignores all of this and labels these critical experiments the same as torture.

There are places were there is no animal testing. For example, in China, they test procedures and new products on humans who are prisoners of the state. So effectively, humans become the lab rats. That isn’t an improvement in ethics.

PETA’s real agenda is profoundly anti-human. PETA president and co-founder, Ingrid Newkirk admitted as much stating that:  “Even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS [or cancer or other horrible diseases], we’d be against it.”

When Hamas terrorists used flaming falcons and exploding donkeys to kill Israeli civilians, PETA under political pressure denounced Hamas — but only for harming and killing the animals — not for endangering or harming the school children in the way of these living weapons. This lack of concern for people is truly disturbing.

PETA’s supporters have filed comments with the Department of Transportation hoping to shut down any medical research with animals. One comment simply said: “Stop experimenting on animals. Experiment on your children and mothers instead.” Then with absolutely no sense of irony, this commenter also accused those who reject the idea of using children and mothers in medical research of being “a bunch of barbarians.” Let that sink in.

But PETA’s track record on animals isn’t so great either. For example, in Virginia, PETA activists were charged for criminal animal abuse.  Then there is the PETA animal shelter kill rate from 2007-2017 — a full decade — which averaged 95.3 percent. Simply stated animals that were intended for adoptions were abused and then killed in 95% of the cases by an organization supposedly promoting the ethical treatment of animals. A PETA spokesperson quipped, “there are fates worse than euthanasia.”

The ends to which this organization will go to supposedly defend the interests of animals knows no bounds. PETA led the move to change the packaging of animal crackers that used to show cartoon circus animals in carton railcar cages. Thanks to PETA, the carton animals now roam free on the African Savannah. I’m sure we can all feel better than cartoon lions and elephants now roam a cartoon grassland.

Sadly, as silly as that effort was, far more serious is the mounting public relations campaign PETA is waging to pressure airlines to refuse to transport animals (below deck in climate controlled areas of the plane) that will be used in medical research. To date, United Airlines has caved to PETA’s pressure campaign. What’s so strange is that United’s CEO, Carlos Munoz, is alive today because he had a heart transplant that was made possible because of medical animal research.

Here’s some context — airlines often allow passengers to bring comfort pets to travel by their side — dogs, cats, rabbits, pigs, peacocks, ducks, roosters, turkeys, and even kangaroos and miniature horses. This inconveniences other passengers and in some cases causes severe health problems for other passengers. On the other hand airlines are caving to PETA’s pressure campaign and refusing to transport animals used in ethical, humane & government mandated testing of new cures. These animals will not inconvenience or endanger any passengers. But this is the weird world you get when the lunatics run the asylum.

Airlines win kudos for donating flights to children in need of cancer treatment at specialized medical centers far from their home. At the same time, some airlines refuse to transport research animals and make it more difficult to develop the very cures and medicines needed to cure these sick children.

It is illegal for the airlines to discriminate against transportation of animals for research purposes. Public carriers have long been prohibited from discriminating when it comes to transportation. Non-discrimination laws for airlines do not simply prevent racial discrimination. The law also prevents an airline from transporting animals for zoos, or vacationing passengers, or as comfort animals, and then refusing to transport similar animals to be used in lawful and ethical medical research.

The law is clear — if the airline is willing to ship one woman’s dog or cat, it must also ship other similar animals being transported even if for different purposes — including medical research. Airlines have no real basis for objecting because they are paid to transport them, and these animals actually have no impact on their passengers as they would be shipped below the passenger compartment.

But because they are fearful of the bad press of PETA’s false claims of animal torture, Airlines give in. We all love pets and animals. But who wants to be slimmed by PETA as the equivalent of a war criminal for trying develop heart translate procedures and medicines or for curing cancer?

We need the Department of Transportation to enforce the law. We wouldn’t tolerate an airline discriminating against a racial or ethnic group and we shouldn’t tolerate this form of discrimination either. The lives of countless millions depend on the cures and medicines that are being developed in careful, thoughtful and ethical ways.

Democrats who trashed Brett Kavanaugh now sorry they didn’t give Al Franken a fair hearing

There are times in which The New Yorker seems like a caricature of life. In an article dated seven days from now — I must have the mostest awesomest computer to get information from the future; I just wish it worked for sticks and horse racing! — Jane Mayer investigates the forced resignation of Senator Al Franken (D-MN) in a rush to judgement pushed by his fellow Democrats.

A remarkable number of Franken’s Senate colleagues have regrets about their own roles in his fall. Seven current and former U.S. senators who demanded Franken’s resignation in 2017 told me that they’d been wrong to do so. Such admissions are unusual in an institution whose members rarely concede mistakes. Patrick Leahy, the veteran Democrat from Vermont, said that his decision to seek Franken’s resignation without first getting all the facts was “one of the biggest mistakes I’ve made” in forty-five years in the Senate. Heidi Heitkamp, the former senator from North Dakota, told me, “If there’s one decision I’ve made that I would take back, it’s the decision to call for his resignation. It was made in the heat of the moment, without concern for exactly what this was.” Tammy Duckworth, the junior Democratic senator from Illinois, told me that the Senate Ethics Committee “should have been allowed to move forward.” She said it was important to acknowledge the trauma that Franken’s accusers had gone through, but added, “We needed more facts. That due process didn’t happen is not good for our democracy.” Angus King, the Independent senator from Maine, said that he’d “regretted it ever since” he joined the call for Franken’s resignation. “There’s no excuse for sexual assault,” he said. “But Al deserved more of a process. I don’t denigrate the allegations, but this was the political equivalent of capital punishment.” Senator Jeff Merkley, of Oregon, told me, “This was a rush to judgment that didn’t allow any of us to fully explore what this was about. I took the judgment of my peers rather than independently examining the circumstances. In my heart, I’ve not felt right about it.” Bill Nelson, the former Florida senator, said, “I realized almost right away I’d made a mistake. I felt terrible. I should have stood up for due process to render what it’s supposed to—the truth.” Tom Udall, the senior Democratic senator from New Mexico, said, “I made a mistake. I started having second thoughts shortly after he stepped down. He had the right to be heard by an independent investigative body. I’ve heard from people around my state, and around the country, saying that they think he got railroaded. It doesn’t seem fair. I’m a lawyer. I really believe in due process.”

Former Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid, who watched the drama unfold from retirement, told me, “It’s terrible what happened to him. It was unfair. It took the legs out from under him. He was a very fine senator.” Many voters have also protested Franken’s decision. A Change.org petition urging Franken to retract his resignation received more than seventy-five thousand signatures. It declared, “There’s a difference between abuse and a mistake.”

I’m not one to laugh out loud, especially when there’s no one to hear it, but I’ll admit to a smile. On Octobet 6, 2018, the Senate conducted a roll call vote on the confirmation of Brett Kavanaugh to the United States Supreme Court. Of the Democratic Senators noted in the article above, Senators Duckworth, Heitkamp, King, Leahy, Merkley, Nelson and Udall, all voted against Justice Kavanaugh’s confirmation. Among the Democrats, only Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia voted for Mr Kavanaugh’s confirmation, and only one Republican, Alaska’s Lisa Murkowski, was going to vote in opposition.¹

Mr Kavanaugh was cruising toward an easy confirmation when a professor of psychology at Palo Alto University and a research psychologist at the Stanford University School of Medicine, Christine Blasey Ford, levied unprovable charges of sexual assault, charging that Mr Kavanaugh had attacked her at a high school party in 1982, when he was 17 and she 15. Dr Ford was unable to provide any evidence to support her allegations, while Mr Kavanaugh — who is apparently really anal about saving things² — produced a 1982 calendar which has references to the people Dr Ford said were witnesses to the assault, all of whom have denied witnessing any such thing.

There was no due process for Mr Kavanaugh, simply a kangaroo court hearing in which the Democrats cried rapist! and the Republicans defended him.

Senator Franken? He was out of the Senate by then, but was, of course, replaced by another Democrat who voted against Mr Kavanaugh. Amusingly enough, Mr Franken had written a book, Lies: And the Lying Liars Who Tell Them, A Fair and Balanced Look at the Right. The book is available on my Kindle for $12.99, which is $27.99 more than I’d be willing to pay for it. It’s schadenfreudelicious karma that the man who accused so many other people of lying lost his job due to a photograph of him reaching to fondle a sleeping woman’s breasts.

On December 1, 2017, seven female Democratic senators—Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Claire McCaskill, Mazie Hirono, Patty Murray, Maggie Hassan, and Catherine Cortez Masto—met with Chuck Schumer to tell him that most of them were on the verge of demanding Franken’s resignation. At least one of them had already drafted such a statement, and the group’s resolve hardened further when some of its members learned of an impending Politico story that contained a seventh allegation, by a former Senate staff member. The accuser, whose name is being withheld at her request, was known to some of the seven female senators. The woman said that, in 2006, when Franken was still a comedian, he had made her uneasy by looking as if he planned to kiss her. The senator she had worked for hadn’t known of the allegation at the time, but vouched for her credibility.

This was about the time of the Alabama special election for the United States Senate seat held by Republican Luther Strange, who had been appointed to fill the seat Jefferson Beauregard Sessions III³ had resigned, and the Democrats were (successfully)n excoriating Republican nominee Roy Moore following allegations that he, as an attorney in his mid-thirties had ‘dated’ and tried to copulate with underaged girls.4 The Democrats could not agree to due process for Senator Franken without doing the same for Mr Moore.

And it worked out for them! They took that Alabama Senate seat, and if they lost Mr Franken, he was replaced by another liberal Democrat.

But the biggest bit of hypocrisy is the Title IX instructions that the Obama Administration sent out to colleges and universities receiving federal funds, which ‘encouraged’ that sexual harassment claims be handled without any regard to due process, and actively discriminated against accused men. Did the Democrats in the Senate raise any due process concerns then?

You know the answer.

Miss Mayer’s article is a long screed defending Mr Franken, and who knows, maybe she’s right, maybe he was unjustly forced out. Too bad, so sad, must suck to be him, but maybe I would have a bit more sympathy for Mr Franken if he hasd said even one word against the Obama Administration’s Title IX abuses.

The Culture Wars, #110

Westlake Legal Group SocialJustice-300x126 The Culture Wars, #110 Uncategorized Front Page Stories

With so much going on the political world over a a tweet by the President, some other stories may have gotten lost in the mix.  Here are seven that may or may not have been covered here.

About That Tweet

If you say it enough times, people may actually start to believe it, or just tune it out.  And so it is with the two networks, CNN and MSNBC.  According to one media watchdog, not counting chyron references, CNN referred to Trump as being “racist” 636 times in one 48 hour period after the infamous tweet.  MSNBC did the same 471 times in the same time period.

Facebook Bans St. Augustine

Let us never assume that if we live good lives we will be without sin; our lives should be praised only when we continue to beg for pardon. But men are hopeless creatures, and the less they concentrate on their own sins, the more interested they become in the sins of others. They seek to criticize, not to correct. Unable to excuse themselves, they are ready to accuse others.

To the rational reader, these sound like words of tolerance from St. Augustine, a very early Christian theologian.  However, posting these words on Facebook by Domenico Bettinelli got him in hot water.  The quote was taken down by the Thought Police at Facebook after they determined it was “hate speech.”  He also received a stern warning that if it was reposted, or something similar, he would be forever banned from Facebook.  Up next as hate speech: the words of Jesus Christ?

Megan Rapinoe Be Warned

Laurel Hubbard recently won two weightlifting gold medals at a recent competition in the women’s category.  The New Zealand athlete had a total lift of 268 kg in their category.  The only problem is Laurel Hubbard is actually a male who is transgender and thus thinks they are a woman, as does apparently the weightlifting federation that sanctioned this event.  We have already seen dudes posing as women winning awards in track and wrestling.  So, Megan Rapinoe be warned.  There is some male out there looking to take your place on the women’s soccer team.  The big unanswered question: How much do they get paid?

What Passes as a Researcher

MediaMatters is a leftist organization that believes Fox News is the devil incarnate.  One of their senior researchers is Andrew Lawrence who recently decided to show his ignorance by wading into the gun control debate.  Tweeted this researcher, he asserted that the popular AR-15 was an assault rifle by insisting, even when corrected, that the “AR” stands for “assault rifle.”  For the uninitiated, it stands for “ArmaLite rifle.”  Seriously… I have liberal friends who believe the same thing.  They seem genuinely perplexed when corrected.

Thou Shalt Be Forced to Believe

The Bethel Christian Academy in Maryland is a small school that serves 280 low-income students.  They are (were) eligible under the state’s school voucher program, that is until Maryland bureaucrats read their handbook.  It seems this Christian school stresses the Biblical beliefs about marriage and sexuality and that is when things turned south.  It was determined that not only were they banned from the voucher program, but now they must repay over $100,000 received thus far.

Berkeley: Proving They Are the Most Insane City in America

By a unanimous vote of the city council, Berkeley, California became the first city in America to ban the use of natural gas in new low-rise buildings starting January 1, 2020.  That’s right: a cheap, efficient and low-carbon source of heating and cooking will be phased out and to show they mean it, the city even created a new position to implement the plan.  That position will pay $271,000.

Yet Another Sign of the Impending Apocalypse

When actor Daniel Craig announced that he was retiring from the ultimate oppressive, male patriarchal role as James Bond, agent 007, some suggested either a “person of color” or a woman assume the role.  Well, they covered all bases and the new 007 will be Lashana Lynch, a black female British actress.  Ian Fleming’s iconic spy character gets a totally woke treatment in the 25th treatment on the silver screen.

Report: As the Border Crisis Continues, Africa Gets In on the Action

Westlake Legal Group earth-1617121_1280-620x348 Report: As the Border Crisis Continues, Africa Gets In on the Action Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

On Friday, the Customs and Border Protection agency released a report indicating that, in less than two months and in only one sector, it’s arrested over 1,000 migrants from multiple African countries.

That’s a lot.

The CBP explained in a statement:

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Del Rio Sector have arrested over 1,100 people from countries in Africa since May 30.

The Del Rio sector chief, Agent Raul L. Ortiz, made things crystal: When it comes to sneaking into the country, Mexico certainly isn’t the only game in town:

“The apprehension of people from African countries illegally crossing our borders continues to increase. Our agents this year have encountered people from 51 countries other than Mexico including 19 countries from the continent of Africa.”

Africa shows no signs of stopping. And in case you forgot there’s a crisis:

Del Rio Sector continues to see people from the continent of Africa illegally crossing the border into the United States. The majority of apprehensions have been in the Del Rio area, consisting mostly of family units and single adults. For fiscal year 2019 to date, Del Rio Sector’s total apprehensions are in excess of 44,000 illegal immigrants, already more than double the total number of arrests made during the previous fiscal year.

In June, ABC News noted the growing calamity:

Hundreds of migrants from central African countries, including the Republic of Congo, Angola and Cameroon have been apprehended by U.S. Border Patrol in the past month. Federal officials in Texas reported more than 500 people from African countries were arrested in less than a week.

Additionally, in that initial surge was “the largest single group of Africans ever seen by authorities at the southern border.”

We have a problem at the border. And yet, Washington continues to twiddle its thumbs. Or stick them in places they don’t really belong.

Until something more drastic than absurd rhetoric and juvenile arguments over skin color is done, the problem isn’t likely to simply continue; it’s all but guaranteed to worsen.

If Congress needed a reminder, consider the report a good step in that direction.

There’s a Vegas-style sign to the south. It’s flashing and blinking, thanks in part to sedentary Republicans, partisan Democrats, sanctuary cites and counties (here, here, and here), and goofs such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. And its message is clear: “Sneak In Here.”

On Sunday, I covered Miss Michigan Kathy Zhu’s loss of the Miss World America crown over her comments about, in part, trying on a hijab. The beauty queen released a video response to the accusations of racism and Islamophobia, in which she took up the mantle of liberty and diversity of thought (here).

Due to the controversy, CNN’s New Day invited the immigrant (in the accurate sense of the word) to discuss. But when Kathy got on air, she was grilled by host Alisyn Camerota as if she’d taken the witness stand.

Kathy touted fact and freedom of speech:

“You shouldn’t just take tweets out of context. I think it’s super important to see the full context of the tweet, and the full conversation. Everything I posted was statistics and my opinions, and I think that, you know, we should be empowering women’s voices and not just stripping them of their title only because of their opinions.”

Alisyn read a past tweet about black-on-black crime, which went as follows:

“Did you know the majority of black deaths are caused by other blacks? Fix problems within your own community first before blaming others.”

The host suggested to the beauty queen her comment possessed a “ring of racism,” and she tried to help Kathy woke up:

“Do you see how that could be seen as offensive? Why would you focus on blacks causing black deaths when the majority of white deaths are caused by white people? This is why people think that this has a ring of racism to it. You didn’t mention the white statistic.”

The shamed contestant attempted a defense:

“Again, this was in response to another person’s tweet talking about how cops kill black people.”

The former Miss World America had already informed Alisyn that her response was to the notion that “all cops are bad people” and that they “kill innocent black people.”

“And if you think statistics and facts are racist,” she said, “then I don’t know what to tell you.”

But Perry Maso– I mean, Alisyn, pushed:

“It’s just which ones you highlight, since, you know, you could have said the thing about white people.”

As for the Muslim headdress, the 20-year-old had once waxed philosophic on her campus’s “Hijab Awareness Day”:

Her tweet:

“There’s a ‘try a hijab on’ booth at my college campus. So you’re telling me that it’s now just a fashion accessory and not a religious thing? Or are you just trying to get women used to being oppressed under Islam?”

Kathy to Alisyn:

“I think that it’s really rude, to Muslims too, to wear their sacred garment on someone who isn’t a Muslim themselves. I wouldn’t want to put a Catholic rosary on someone if they aren’t Catholic.”

The host hammered:

“But that’s not what you said. You said it wasn’t that you felt badly for them, that you weren’t Muslim. It’s that you said, ‘Are you just trying to get women used to be oppressed under Islam?’”

Geez Louise.

Kathy contended there’s Muslim oppression of women in other parts of the world”

“There are so many women in Muslim countries right now who are being stoned to death because they don’t want to wear a hijab due to their husband’s requirement to do so. I think we should be focusing on that.”

Bill Maher agrees.

But Alisyn Camerota likely doesn’t.

Not-yet-21 Kathy Zhu got grilled on live television, over — it seems — things she didn’t mean to imply. Check out the full interview above, and let us all know your reaction in the Comments section.

To be fair to the Collusion Narrative Network, Kathy shoulda seen it comin’. They weren’t poised to be a fan, from the outset — witness the horror:

As covered Saturday by RedState’s Bonchie, in 2016, Rashida Tlaib went “absolutely insane” at a Trump event.

The member of Congress’s left-wing Freshmen Fab Four was physically ousted as the soon-to-be President outlined his economic policy at the Detroit Economic Club. While getting the boot, she shouted, “You guys are crazy!”

Submitted for your approval:

Here’s more. This is who Michigan elected to make its laws:

Nice.

The video of Rashida’s removal went viral over the weekend, prompting some to give her the ol’ high-five:

One user fought the power of due process (unlike Al Franken Monday — here):

But, of course, some just thought she was a nut:

But what’s the Commander-in-Chief’s #1-tweeting offspring think about the spectacle? Twitter gunslinger Don. Jr. responded Sunday, with a comment on “crazy deplorables” and patriotic Americans who don’t judge people by the color of their skin:

Al Franken Says He Should’ve Never Resigned, and the #MeToo Whirlwind Gets a Bit of Honest Reflection

Westlake Legal Group cyclone-2102397_1280-620x414 Al Franken Says He Should’ve Never Resigned, and the #MeToo Whirlwind Gets a Bit of Honest Reflection Uncategorized sexual harassment Sexual Assault Politics Jane Mayer Front Page Stories democrats Culture Congress Alyssa Milano Allow Media Exception Al Franken #timesup #metoo

#MeToo was an odd thing. It wasn’t so much a revolution as a frenzy. It was lathered onto the front page in a way that was overwhelming. It was the New Kids on the Block. For a moment in time, everyone was wearing the pins and watching the shows and going to the events and emoting all over themselves. It swept the nation, just like “You Got It (The Right Stuff).” For an ideologically-oriented movement, that’s the kiss of death. Because that level of mania can’t be sustained.

Therefore, this is how it seemed to me when it was at its peak: We’re in the throes of a heightened level; anything anyone does or is revealed to have done during this window of time is going to get ruined. Then the news cycle’s going to reset, and everyone thereafter will continue to get away with similar misdeeds because people are sick of hearing about it.

Now here we are, largely on the other side. And one man swept by the broom of yesterday’s headlines is now regretting his surrender to its custodial cleanup.

After resigning from his senate seat in 2017 amid allegations of forcibly kissing talk-show host Leeann Tweeden and the damnation of a 2006 pre-Congress photo of him mockingly groping her as she slept, left-winger Al Franken wishes he’d stayed and fought.

A Monday piece in The New Yorker profiled the disgraced politician’s plight.

Al told the outlet due process is a thing:

“The idea that anybody who accuses someone of something is always right ― that’s not the case. That isn’t reality.”

The former SNL writer wishes he’d gone before the Senate Ethics Committee rather than stepping down.

And he’s not the only one with regret. Jane Mayer reported:

A remarkable number of Franken’s Senate colleagues have regrets about their own roles in his fall. Seven current and former U.S. senators who demanded Franken’s resignation in 2017 told me that they’d been wrong to do so. Such admissions are unusual in an institution whose members rarely concede mistakes.

Indeed — Vermont Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy said pressuring Al to quit is “one of the biggest mistakes [he has] made” in his 45 years in Congress.

Former North Dakota Democratic Sen. Heidi Heitkamp’s bummed, too:

“If there’s one decision I’ve made that I would take back, it’s the decision to call for his resignation. It was made in the heat of the moment, without concern for exactly what this was.”

More from TNY:

Tammy Duckworth, the junior Democratic senator from Illinois, told me that the Senate Ethics Committee “should have been allowed to move forward.” She said it was important to acknowledge the trauma that Franken’s accusers had gone through, but added, “We needed more facts. That due process didn’t happen is not good for our democracy.

Maine Independent Sen. Angus King compared Franken’s takedown to an execution:

“There’s no excuse for sexual assault. But Al deserved more of a process. I don’t denigrate the allegations, but this was the political equivalent of capital punishment.”

Oregon Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley admitted he acted without even examining the situation:

“This was a rush to judgment that didn’t allow any of us to fully explore what this was about. I took the judgment of my peers rather than independently examining the circumstances. In my heart, I’ve not felt right about it.”

How do we end up with such rash people in a position to make our laws??

Jane asked Al a direct question and got an unmistakable answer:

When I asked him if he truly regretted his decision to resign, he said, “Oh, yeah. Absolutely.”

So now the pendulum’s swung back toward the concepts of evidence and proof. Seems reasonable.

You’ve Heard of Sanctuary Cities? Maryland’s Largest County Joins the #Resistance and Makes the News

Westlake Legal Group fist-bump-933916_1280-620x465 You’ve Heard of Sanctuary Cities? Maryland’s Largest County Joins the #Resistance and Makes the News Uncategorized Front Page Stories Featured Story

You’ve heard of sanctuary cities. How ’bout a sanctuary county? Maryland’s got one, and it’s the largest county in the state.

As The Daily Wire’s Ashe Schow (who admirably understands the greatness of The Dick Van Dyke Show) points out, “As of April 16, 2019, nine states including California, Illinois, and New Jersey claim to be Sanctuary States…” And the list of anti-government governments is growing.

Recently, both New York City and Los Angeles vowed to ignore federal law at the outset of Washington’s ICE raids to deport those who’ve refused court orders to return to their native lands (here and here).

And now there’s this: On Monday, Montgomery County officially became part of the #Resistance.

County Executive Marc Elrich will sign an executive order prohibiting the region from cooperating with the nation’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Here’s what Marc had to say:

“The Promoting Community Trust Executive Order aims to reaffirm current county policy and improve community security by ensuring that immigrant and otherwise vulnerable communities can engage with county departments.”

The statement was, of course, dishonest. Marc wasn’t referring to immigrants; he was, rather, referencing the opposite — those who chose to enter the country by alternate means instead of the provided immigration system. It’s an important distinction, as — to put it bluntly — most of the bull$#*@ in politics comes courtesy of an attempt at sleight of hand via misdirecting terms.

Change the wording. and voilà — everything’s different, Jack!

If you’d like to read about an immigrant, check out Kath Zhu, whose Miss World America crown was recently stripped (here).

Back to Marc, the directive will prevent county agencies from asking anyone requesting public assistance about their immigration status.

Acting Police Chief Marcus Jones affirmed the position to Washington’s Top News:

“We have no direct contact with ICE about any immigration issues. We’re not doing any operations with ICE in Montgomery County. That’s not our job to monitor that. That’s forbidden against our policy.”

More from WTOP-FM:

Jones said if ICE seeks to deport someone who is in police custody, then ICE needs to track that person independently and deal with the situation without the police department’s assistance.

We’ve come to a strange place when America is defying…America.

Shroud of Turin: New Test Concludes 1988 ‘Medieval Hoax’ Dating Was a Fraud

Re-posted from TOWNHALL July 21, 2019

Important news about the Shroud of Turin, believed by millions to be the authentic burial cloth of Jesus Christ, has been flagrantly under-reported.

Nevertheless, the lack of mainstream media interest does not diminish landmark new research contesting the results of the controversial 1988 radiocarbon test that dated the Shroud between the years 1260 and 1390.

Immediately after those dates were cited three decades ago, and to this day, the Shroud has been tainted, maligned, disparaged and denigrated while wedded to the descriptions “not authentic,” a “forgery” or “medieval hoax.”

Meanwhile, the medieval date range is still continuously questioned and debunked by scientists and experts. The chief complaint is that the three small Shroud test samples were cut from the same outer edge on a piece of the cloth long thought to have been added later in the Middle Ages. This would have been part of a repair or reweave on a corner that had become worn and frayed due to frequent handling when the Shroud was held up for public exhibition. In fact, this theory was proven correct in 2005 by American chemist Raymond N. Rogers.

Thankfully now there is a new chapter in the 1988 dating debate. Raw data and documents from the original test that were “unavailable” (many scientists and researchers would say deliberately “hidden”) were obtained in 2017 by Tristan Casabianca, a French researcher.

In March, after two years of tests and analysis, Casabianca and his team of scientists published their results in the scholarly journal Archaeometry.

This month, in an interview with the French publication L’Homme Nouveau (Google translates into English), Casabianca discusses how he obtained the documents, his team’s methodology, and conclusion. Here is an excerpt:

In 1989, the results of the shroud dating were published in the prestigious journal Nature: between 1260 and 1390 with 95% certainty. But for thirty years, researchers have asked the laboratories for raw data. These have always refused to provide them. In 2017, I submitted a legal request to the British Museum, which supervised the laboratories. Thus, I had access to hundreds of unpublished pages, which include these raw data. With my team, we conducted their analysis. Our statistical analysis shows that the 1988 carbon 14 dating was unreliable: the tested samples are obviously heterogeneous, [showing many different dates], and there is no guarantee that all these samples, taken from one end of the sheet, are representative of the whole fabric. It is therefore impossible to conclude that the shroud of Turin dates from the Middle Ages.

Here is why Casabianca’s conclusions are important to someone like me.

Since the 1990s, I have been a proponent of the study of the Shroud of Turin — a 14.5- by-3.5-foot linen cloth, and indeed believe it is the authentic burial shroud of Jesus Christ.

Meanwhile, the Shroud continues to be the most studied and analyzed artifact in the world, with its numerous unexplained properties continuing to baffle modern science. Chief among the mysteries is what “caused” a linear, front to back, anatomically correct, blood-stained image of a tortured, crucified man — with bodily markings that perfectly align with all the Biblical accounts of Christ’s suffering and death — to appear on the cloth.

The Shroud also possesses photographic-negative properties first discovered in 1898,  that on the “positive image” clearly show every gruesome, agonizing, torment endured by the “man.”

Additionally, the Shroud displays three-dimensional “distance information” resembling a topographical map but within the cloth’s two-dimensional image of the man.

Furthermore, the image depth measures only two micro-fibers with no variation (such consistency is a feat impossible with human hands). And more unusual, the image does not penetrate the cloth but sits on top.

I could go into vast detail about many more fascinating facts, but the big takeaway is that the more you learn about the Shroud’s mysteries, the more you believe in its authenticity.

Shroud scientists and other experts who have never accepted the 1290 – 1360 date range are applauding Casabianca and his team who are calling for rigorous new testing to end the absurd notion that the Shroud is a medieval hoax.

Not only did those dates defy logic because of circumstantial evidence such as art, artifacts, and coins that mirror the Shroud face as early as AD 692, but the 1988 tests diminished the conclusions of the equally famous 1978 Shroud of Turin Research Project known as STURP. As the first and last comprehensive research project authorized by the Vatican, STURP employed 40 esteemed scientists using 1970s-state-of-the-art equipment and given access to the Shroud for 120 hours. Here is the concluding paragraph from STURP’s final October 1981 report:

Thus, the answer to the question of how the image was produced or what produced the image remains, now, as it has in the past, a mystery. We can conclude for now that the Shroud image is that of a real human form of a scourged, crucified man. It is not the product of an artist. The bloodstains are composed of hemoglobin and also give a positive test for serum albumin. The image is an ongoing mystery and until further chemical studies are made, perhaps by this group of scientists, or perhaps by some scientists in the future, the problem remains unsolved.

Barrie Schwortz, a world-renowned Shroud expert who was a STURP photographer and later founded Shroud.com, the most visited Shroud site, told me what happened in 1988:

As soon as the dating results were leaked to the press, the world of the Shroud came to a complete and sudden halt. Many researchers took this as the final word and disengaged completely. The years of hard work by the STURP team and the many papers they published in the peer-reviewed scientific literature was immediately disregarded and ultimately, forgotten. These were indeed the bleak years of Shroud research.

But now the Shroud is experiencing a renaissance.

Besides Casabianca’s breakthrough research, there are two new Shroud museums, a site for Shroud evangelization, a famous collection of Shroud photography now available online, much Shroud activity, and generally a renewed interest in the cloth.

I am proud to be a part of this movement by helping lead a team of Shroud experts to raise the $2.5 million needed to showcase the cloth’s mysteries in a unique exhibition at the popular and prestigious Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C.

Of course, the Shroud will not be present at the museum because it does not travel. Since 1578, it has been housed in the Cathedral of St. John the Baptist in Turin, Italy  —  except during the Second World War when it was hidden from Hitler — but the Shroud will be there in spirit!

After the funds are raised, our team will assist the museum in producing the world’s most high-tech, creative exhibit, utilizing state-of-the-art display technology. The Shroud’s unexplained properties will be brought to life, leaving visitors spellbound.

Targeted for early January 2021, the exhibition will be open in time for the presidential inauguration at the U.S. Capitol, only three blocks from the museum.

The Museum of the Bible’s planned exhibit is part of a great Shroud awakening. Why do I believe that this is happening? The answer is the same as I have written before:

For those who insist that the burial Shroud of Jesus is fake, then we must counter with the question, “What if it is real?”

Diamond & Silk Sound Off on the Fresh Face Caucus and Donald John Trump

You’re no doubt aware of the recent series of strife-riddled occurrences across words and the webisphere between Nancy Pelosi, Donald Trump and the “Fresh Face Caucus” consisting of Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, and that fascinating fighter of farts, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

To catch up on the mess, please see herehere, here, here, and here.

So what do the dynamic duo of Diamond and Silk think about the whole situation?

The two recently spoke to The Daily Caller about the Quad Squad.

Along the way, the ladies also addressed rapper Cardi B’s endorsement of Uncle Bernie Sanders.

As for the Trump dustup, D&S touted the “love it or leave it” philosophy:

“We’ve said it for almost three years: If you don’t like this country, then you pack…and you can go back — to your own country or to another country. This is the United States of America.”

Diamond got rough:

“I call them the Hate and the Fraud Squad. Because they spew hate, and I think they’re all fraudsters. Because here’s the deal: They are supposed to represent the American people, not illegal aliens. They are supposed to be lawmakers, not law breakers. And so, when we see the “squad” wanting to break the law, wanting to be anti-America, anti-American, we have a problem with that. Now, Nancy Pelosi should’ve set these women straight from day one. But she didn’t. She went along with their shenanigans, and now looks what’s happening.”

Silk was smooth:

“You know, when you look back at our president’s tweet, he didn’t mention no race, no color, no country. He did not mention the amount. So how is it that four congresswomen — out of all of the congresswomen there on the hill — know who the President was talking about? What they did is they exposed theirselves. … And it’s a shame for the media, the way they’re trying to spin this, as if it’s so racial, it’s such a racial thing…”

I’ll let them take it from here. Enjoy the wit, wisdom, and wonder of two of Donald Trump’s favorites political pundits as they lay it out as only they can.
