The DNC Passes a Resolution Championing Its Largest Religious Group – and It Isn’t Who You Might Think
According to the Secular Coalition for America as reported by Fox News, on Saturday, the Democratic National Committee passed a summer meeting resolution celebrating its “largest religious group.”
The esteemed faction also happens be in possession of tremendous “ethical soundness.”
So what’s the religion? Christianity? Islam? Judaism?
Nope — remember that “ethical soundness” part?
In fact, the touted congregation is…subscribed to no religion at all.
Otherwise known as “religiously unaffiliated.”
The DNC wanted to recognize those outside the confines of organized religion with a championing declaration.
By contrast, Dems made a point to announce the crappiness of religion:
Those most loudly claiming that morals, values, and patriotism must be defined by their particular religious views have used those religious views, with misplaced claims of ‘religious liberty,’ to justify public policy that has threatened the civil rights and liberties of many Americans, including but not limited to the LGBT community, women, and ethnic and religious/nonreligious minorities.
See what y’all do?!
Democrats aren’t like y’all. In fact, as per the document, they’re “an inclusive organization that recognizes that morals values, and patriotism are not unique to any particular religion, and are not necessarily reliant on having a religious worldview at all.”
This isn’t the DNC’s first bat at batting all you batty religious nuts. Chair Tom Perez previously observed the following at a Demand Justice event:
“[W]e all have to make sure that we’re fluent in what’s happening across our ecosystem so we can come to each other’s defense because we need to build a bigger orchestra. They’ve had a big orchestra for some time and they’ve got the megaphones to amplify it, whether it’s Sinclair at the local level or Fox at the national level.
“I’ve learned this from the outreach we’ve done at the DNC. Why aren’t we penetrating, I ask? And I had someone in northwest Wisconsin tell me: ‘You know what? For most of the people I know, their principle sources of information are Fox News, the NRA newsletter and the pulpit on Sunday.’ And it should come as a surprise to no-one that our message doesn’t penetrate.
“It should come as a surprise to no-one that that person has elevated the issue of courts to the top because that person on the pulpit is saying ‘ignore everything else that this person has done and is doing, we have to focus on one issue of Roe vs. Wade.’ And people buy it. Because that’s their only source.”
As provided by Secular.org, the resolution, in part, states thusly:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL COMMITTEE recognizes:
1. The value, ethical soundness, and importance of the religiously unaffiliated demographic, a group of Americans who contribute in innumerable ways to the arts, sciences, medicine, business, law, the military, their communities, the success of the Party and prosperity of the Nation; and
2. That religiously unaffiliated Americans are a group that, as much as any other, advocates for rational public policy based on sound science and universal humanistic values and should be represented, included, and heard by the Party.
The folks at Freedom From Religion Foundation are delighted, as indicated by Co-President Annie Laurie Gaylor:
“Freethinkers pack a powerful political punch, and it’s high time that political parties made note of this.”
Were he still alive, it’s likely Saturday’s ethical extravaganza would’ve come as sad news to one of the world’s most famous Democrats: Billy Graham.
